The last two weeks had been interesting, to say the least. He had settled into a local hotel and had fallen asleep in record time- the fight he had gone through really wore him out. The next morning the bloodedge had settled on what he was to do for today. First, he would buy necessities for hygiene and food. Second, he would buy at least one pair of sleep attire, it was uncomfortable to sleep in his combat outfit. Third, he would go to a library and read up on this world. It had taken him time to register it but he really was in another world, how? He had a few ideas. The Azure has a will of its own, did it want him to find it? Is that why he was brought here? Had Raquel sent him here due to his world not being saved? But why? If Ragna's world could survive couldn't his by proxy? And on top of that how could he return to his world? Would he be stuck hopping between worlds? Never returning to his own? Would it be days? Months? Years? ….Decades? The thought made his stomach turn, to never see Raquel again- he couldn't finish the thought.
Pushing himself out of the hard and stiff bed, Naoto pulls his shirt over his head. Slipping his socks on and attaching any extra belts and guards he had. Finally, he put on his combat boots. Doing a small stretch and letting out a yawn he looked at himself in the mirror, making sure he was at least presentable. His eyes wandered to the cell phone of this world, a scroll as Ozpin called it. It was without a doubt more advanced than anything he had seen, but then again the last world he wandered into made him just another ordinary guy. Walking towards the dresser, Naoto picks up the scroll, clicking the diamond button in the center, causing the holographic touch screen to extend and light up. He had played with it a bit before going to bed, he had a decent understanding of its map system as well as its contacts functions. He would learn more about this at the library.
Turning off his scroll he grabs his key and turns the TV off- how long has it been since he's watched TV? It's a pity they didn't have shows like Guilty Gear and Undernight In-Birth, truly shows that shaped his generation. Grabbing the knob and turning it to the right he pulls, the door opening. He turns on his scroll and lets his eyes take in the distance it would take. He begins his adventure for cloth, food, and knowledge
He first arrives at a local convenience store. Honestly, it reminded him of Japan's convenience stores...he was homesick. Pushing the thoughts of his home life he takes a red tooth-brush and some tooth-paste with a brand known as Aldgate. While he was there he decided to purchase a pair of earbuds. He then got a few TV dinners and other microwavable foods, considering it would only be two weeks it shouldn't be too harmful to his health. He also got a few bottles of water- just in case.
After checking out his items he walks the streets of Vale, his bag of things in his right, and his scroll in his left. The next stop is...! A clothing store. Even in just his pants, it was uncomfortable to feel the metal of his trousers dig into his sides. He mapped his scroll to the closest and cheapest clothing store and set off for yet another journey.
"Ama's...Ama's where are you~." He repeated the name of the clothing store in a sing-song voice. "Ama dear Ama where are you- found it." The scroll let out a beep when indicating that he had arrived at his destination. Shutting his scroll off once more he walks into the store, its doors automatically opening. 'Despite this place being a different world, it without a doubt had its similarities.' Thanks to his fluent skill in Remnants language (he still questions it) he can read the signs and directions with ease. Going into the sleepwear aisle he picks out a pair of long, black socks. Red and black plaid pajama pants, and a black t-shirt. While being there he decides to purchase a medium-sized red and black duffel bag. He leaves the store with two bags in his right hand and his scroll in his left, a duffel bag slung over his shoulder. His scroll was routed to Vale's public library.
Arriving at his final destination he walks into the library, waving at the short old lady behind the desk. He moves over to the table in the corner and sets his things on one of the chairs. Securing his spot he goes to find some books to read up on. He returns to his table with a book on Vale history, Mistral history, Vacuo history, Atlas history, Mantle history, Remnant history in general, historical figures of Remnant, Grimm species and patterns, and a book detailing something called "aura" and "semblances".
He spent the entirety of the day reading, and he learned quite a few things. Remnant is made up out of four kingdoms and three continents. Currently, he was in Vale, which is on the continent of Sanus, much like Vacuo. Atlas was the most technologically advanced kingdom, Mantle was the former kingdom that is now facing harsh poverty. Outside of continents and kingdoms, he learned of something that truly shocked him. Fanus. Cat people, dog people, lizard people, bull people, hell even bird people. If an animal existed there was a 99% chance that a Fanus variant existed. His mind wandered to Makoto Nanaya, a Beastskin. Despite the different names they without a doubt shared similar traits, but they were also different. As an example, Fanus could only have one trait and they all have night-vision. Beastskin all have boosted strength and speed and take one or more traits from the animal- often two. He would have been surprised but he was far past that point already. The thing that upset them was for the fact that they were often treated poorly, being subjected to slavery and general racism.
He decides to look into more of Remnant's general world. Dust, an often colored gem that contains an element. Red = Fire, Yellow = Lightning, Black = Gravity, Orange = Magma, and so on. Meaning the thing that the thug had thrown at him was fire dust. Dust could add elemental effects to weapons or could be used in a more risky form...injecting dust into the body to give one or more elemental ability(ies). What's more, is that dust could be infused into clothes and could be forged into weapons. The Schnee Dust company, with factories and mines, placed worldwide they are the biggest dust company out there. Positioned in Atlas, their overseer is Jacques Schnee, a brutal man. He forces Fanus to work in the mines, often taking from Mantle Fanus seeking work. He wasn't even trying to hide the fact that they were racist towards Fanus, disgusting.
Naoto's face wrinkled up in disgust before being replaced with one of curiosity. The White Fang. A Fanus group dedicated to gaining Fanus rights, some call it a cult others call it a striving group. He decided he would look into it more at a later date. Turning his attention to the next passage, Huntsmen and Huntresses. Warriors that have graduated from an Academy that provides combat education that is used to defeat the Grimm…? 'What the hell is a Grimm?' His interest possessing him he reads further. Huntsmen and Huntresses start out at a Junior school from ages 4-13, from then on they are trained in a combat school from ages 13-17. The Junior Academy serves to provide a foundation for education and the history of Remnant, combat academies are the same but more hands-on, Academies are your final four years as students before graduating and becoming Huntsmen/Huntresses. The next time he came here he would have to write this stuff down.
The young bloodedge takes interest in the next lines of text. Aura is used to protect and fuel a Huntsmen, Huntress, Police Officer, or just an everyday Civilian in everyday life. Be it used to fight against the Grimm- 'Again, what are they?' or just protecting yourself in the kitchen. Aura can enhance your body and objects, as well as all living things. Interesting, could he obtain this "aura"? It seemed as though it would benefit him greatly, paired with his abilities and all. 'Ah wait!' His mind traveled to the night before, the night those thugs attacked one had a silver coating of energy when he attacked. Was that aura? It had to be. Moving on to the next section his eyes crossed over: Semblances. Semblances, a semblance is unique to every man, child, and woman. Even some animals have shown to have the ability to use both aura and semblance. Semblances are an extension of aura. Oftentimes being fueled by it. Semblances can be things such as enhanced speed, metal manipulation, life manipulation, telekinesis, and even transformation. These abilities are unique to every person, no semblance can be the same. 'So what that girl- Ruby used is a semblance?' Her semblance was turning into rose petals? But she sped up so maybe it does multiple things? She would have to ask her again if he ever saw her- which he was for sure would happen considering Beacon and all. Could his bloodedge fall under the category of a semblance? Could his: Eye of the Hunter be considered a semblance? Honestly, semblances weren't too different from drives, the similarities were very clear. Once he sat down with Ozpin to explain everything he could use this knowledge to figure out a cover-up.
Looking at the next section the one question he had was finally answered: What were Grimm? Grimm, beasts made of darkness. Bone plating covering their face and body. Having different sizes, different rankings, different strengths, different weaknesses, and different powers. But they all had one common goal: Consume fear. Devour it, pillage it, tear into the flesh of one holding the emotion that is fear. This disturbed Naoto greatly, the fact that such things existed terrified him. But he had faced his share of monsters as well, this was just another thing. He read further, analyzing and reading close to the Grimm and their different types. That entire time he didn't acknowledge the fact that his food had defrosted, or that his drinks grew warm.
When he looked up at his scroll it was at 30% and it was...6:45? The library closed at 7:00 pm and he had spent an entire six-hours here. Geez, he really was losing his sense of time. Grabbing his things he set the route of his scroll back to the hotel, he was tired and mentally exhausted from the research he had done, but at least he walked away with plenty of knowledge.
Closing the door behind him Naoto slumped to the floor, his right arm cradling his head. He just wanted to eat and sleep.
Naoto changed out of his combat attire and into his sleepwear, it was loose and slightly baggy. His pants were rolled up and his socks were pulled over them. Collapsing onto his bed he decided to end the night with some popcorn, soda, and TV accompanied by games on his scroll. Watching an action TV show that seemed to be based on a tournament his scroll rang, he popped a piece of popcorn into his mouth, already having an idea of who was on the other end.
"Yo."
"Hello , I take it you are doing well with your current arrangements?"
Roman Torchwick was pissed off. Red, Black, and some huntress had crashed his party and had driven him off. Walking into the warehouse he stomps on the ground in anger. "Aw, is Rommy upset?" Emerald snickers and Mercury laughs in suite. "Ha ha, very funny...damn brats." A girl with brown and pink hair sat up from the crate she was sitting on, folding her parasol and letting it rest on her shoulder. Her small frame was something people would underestimate her for...but Roman knew better. She was without a doubt the strongest fighter out of the four, balancing in both combat and illusion.
"Hello Neo, I take it your plans hadn't gone as planned as well? Just judging by face." Neo gave a small pout before nodding. "No matter, we'll do better next time." Roman brings his cane to the ground, pacing back and forth with it. "Emerald, Mercury, how did your operation fair?" "Got more dust then you...Rommy."
….
…
…
"STOP CALLING ME THAT!"
Roman, Emerald, Mercury, and even Neo stopped in their tracks- whatever banter they were having left in the dust. A woman in a red dress with a semblance most would call downright powerful, dust lined her clothes and her heels made a clack with each step. Her black hair and yellow eyes carried that of confidence. "Gentlemen, ladies...I believe we have better things to do. Adam Taurus may be willing to lend a hand."
…
The last two weeks had been rinse and repeat. Make sure he was stocked up, bought other hygiene products, washed his combat suit (by hand), and went to the library. He had purchased a thick notebook that he had written all of his notes down in. From semblances to the aura, from people to huntresses, from Grimm to...well, Grimm. "Grimm are believed to primarily feed off of fear, but also feed off of other negative emotions. Panic, death, pain, and any other negative things have the ability to attract Grimm. It is why the Vytal Festival is guarded by huntsmen and huntresses, due to the edge it puts both spectators and combatants on." Vytal Festival? He would have to look into that some more on his own time. Now he decided it would be a good time to research via computer- which they had. Surprisingly it was just a fancier version of what he had back in Japan, it wasn't hard to navigate. The brown-haired brawler opens the browser and types a few keywords in, one being: "Language." His previous world spoke Japanese, so did the world he originated from, so he thought nothing of it at the time. However, the fact that he could speak fluently in a language he had no knowledge of baffled him. Pressing the enter key the page is redirected to his desire. "Remnant speaks multiple languages, it's primarily being English mixed with some ancient Atlesian tongue- so just English with extra steps?" Deciding the knowledge was worth keeping he jotted it down. However, he hadn't noticed the figure approaching him.
"Oh? Exams coming up, boy?" The man had black hair and a black coat with red insides, he looked to be in his twenties- early thirties at best. His eyes and face...even his attire resembled one Kagura Mutsuki, the Black Knight. But this wasn't his, his life force gave off a far different vibe. The power granted only to the Terumi's heir came in handy, without a doubt. Quickly making up a lie he responds: "... uh yeah! You see exams have just been really cracking down on me, don't wanna fall behind! Hahahaha." He scratches the back of his head nervously.
"Is that right?" His eyes narrow. 'Shit, is he on to me?' "Well then, enjoy your day!" He gives off a warm smile before walking out of the library...strange. This was weird, without a doubt..but it also gave him a theory of sorts. That was not the Kagura Mutsuki he had crossed in battle, he seemed almost weaker and gave off a whole different vibe. Did that mean alternate versions existed in different worlds? It could check out. Did that mean a version of Rachel or Raquel existed? This only meant he still had a chance of finding her. Deciding he had studied enough for his last day before Beacon he shut the computer off, he had some thinking to do.
It was 4 am when Naoto woke up, he had an hour to arrive at his destination so he could board the ship- which was called a "Bullhead". Either way, the ship was pretty cool, he would like to see it again without being attacked. Warming up a breakfast bowl, Naoto goes into the shower. Washing and scrubbing at rapid speeds. He opens the microwave door and gets a plastic fork from the box, digging into his meal. Finishing his meal he goes to brush his teeth. He then begins to pack, he fills his duffel bag up with hygiene products, his clothes, and his scroll. Slipping on his combat attire he looks at himself in the mirror, he cleaned up nice...for a homeless man. Naoto opens the door and walks into the main lobby, checking out. "Thank you, have a good day sir."
Naoto gives a small wave before heading out, fishing the paper Ozpin had given to him. "You are to meet at the port at 5 am, the bullhead will arrive at 5:30 am. Following the directions, he made his way to the port, the chilly breeze gracing his skin. When he came to see his destination he saw a girl with blonde hair, a girl with black and red hair, and a few other students. He identified the first one easy, Ruby Rose. He contemplated going up and greeting her but they were in a conversation that he didn't want to peel them away from. He sits and waits for it to arrive, 5 minutes.
The bullhead arrives and the students pile in, Naoto being the last to enter.
Naoto sat in the back of the bus, reviewing the notes he had taken. "But you're gonna be the bee's knees!" "I just wanna be a normal girl with normal knees!" Naoto let out a chuckle which caused the duo to look at him. "Oh- Nawoto? Did I get that right?" "Whos Nawoto?" "The guy that helped me last night against those baddies, he was all Whaaaacha and hiyaaaaa and I was all like Schwing stwing schking bang! It was totally awesome!" A loud shh could be heard and an embarrassed Ruby promptly quieted herself. Naoto stands up and walks towards the two. "Its Naoto Kurogane, Ruby if I remember correctly?" He holds his hand out. "U-uh, yeah! Ruby Rose, n-nice to meet you Naoto!" She shakes his hand as fast as possible before retracting it.
"So you're the guy that saved my Lil sis? Hmm welp, Rubes looks like you got a boyfriend!" Ruby sputtered, blushing. "He's not my boyfriend Yang! Why are you so weird!" "One could say I'm just...Yanging it." Naoto cringed. Weren't sisters supposed to be more alike? One was what you would call a cookie devouring beast and the other was a teaser that made shit puns. If Naoto didn't have a headache now… he would have one by tonight. "Jokes aside, seriously, thank you. I couldn't imagine my sis getting wailed on by a couple of thugs but still, thank you." Her tone was laced with obvious love, the love for her sister. The desire to do anything in her power to make sure she lived a happy life. It was touching, to say the least. Naoto scratches his neck, talking while doing so. "It was nothing, glad I could help.-" "The suspect in question is Roman Torchwick, who continues to evade authorities. If you have any information on him please contact the authorities. " "This Saturday the Fanus protest turned dark, the white fang disrupted the protest. The once peaceful group turned dark has-." The Holographic TV shut off. Being replaced by one Glynda Goodwitch, one whom Naoto had a run-in with.
"You are one of a privileged few selected to protect the peace granted to us, as Huntsmen and Huntresses. It is your duty to uphold it, you have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, now it is our turn to give you the power and knowledge to protect our world." The hologram fades out, leaving Naoto with more information on this world.
"Look!" Ruby runs up the window, "You can see Signal from here." She says, completely forgetting the previous conversation the three were having. "I guess home isn't too far after all." She smiles to herself, knowing that home was just a ship- or call away. Yang wraps her arm around Ruby's shoulder. "Beacon will be our home for now." A boy with blonde hair stumbles around the ship, ready to puke. "I guess the view isn't for everyone, I wonder who else we'll meet." "Who knows, maybe they'll be better than Vomit Boy- OH NAOTO HE PUKED ON YOUR SHOE!"
Naoto shakes his leg around, the vomit hitting everywhere thanks to his flailing. "Gross gross gross gross gross!" So this was Beacon? He couldn't shift is way through this one, that much he was sure of.
Ozpin sips on his hot chocolate, a serious look on his face as Glynda stands behind him. "Welcome to Beacon, Naoto Kurogane."
The Wheel of Fate...is turning once more.
