Hello! How do I start this off? I've never really done any of this note A/N stuff so bear with me! This is my first Fanfic, which some already know. Naoto is underappreciated in my opinion, and is honestly my favorite Blazblue character! I saw the potential Naoto's departure had in CF and wanted to expand upon it! I don't know where exactly I'll be taking this but I'll figure it out one step at a time, IM VERY OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AND CRITICISM, I ENCOURAGE IT. If you find something wrong with my writing, where I'm taking the plot or just anything in general please, PM, or let me know in a review. With that out of the way its time to move onto
Chapter IV!
Naoto walked off the ship, trailing behind both Ruby and Yang. He had successfully removed the vomit from his right boot and was currently trying to reach the auditorium. Closely observing the two girls talking he took notice of how little they shared similar features, weren't they sisters? Chances were Ruby or Yang were adopted, but that wasn't his business in any capacity. Yang pulls Ruby's hood over her head and Naoto can briefly make out a few words about making friends and weapons. Yang then sprints off towards a group of people, accidentally bumping into Ruby in the process and spinning around. Before Naoto could comfort the spinning girl, a girl hauling around cases of something knocks into her, the cases fall all over the floor and Ruby with it. It was an accident, she would understand-
"What do you think your doing!?"
Nevermind.
Ruby sits up, a case of dust sliding off of her in the process. "Uh...sorry?" "Sorry? Do you have any idea of the damage you could've caused?" Trying to desolate the situation, Ruby hands out one of the cases of dust, and the girl in white snatches it away. Getting a better look the girl had white hair and a white dress with white combat heels, that all had red insides. Her hair was tied up into a pony-tail. "This is dust, mined, and purified from the Schnee quarry!" Naoto froze...Schnee? The dust group that Naoto took interest in for all the wrong reasons, their constant racism along with their rude and snotty attitude. "Uh.." Ruby was at a lost for words, she messed up.
"What are you? Braindead?" The snotty girl really was going too far.
Deciding this quarrel had gone on long enough Naoto steps in. "Hey, I think that's taking it a little to far Princess." "Oh great, another imbecile with the IQ of damn Grimm!" She says, shaking a vile full of red dust in a powdered form. "Lightning, Earth, Water, Fire, Energy! Do you have a single clue on how this stuff works?" 'She is on her high horse.' He thought, pitying anyone having to deal with her, in this case: Ruby. "Are you even listening? Is any of this sinking in?" Naoto didn't take notice of the red clouds of dust coming from the vile as it made its way towards Ruby's nostrils. "Ah- ah… AH CHOO!" Ruby sneezes and the dust reacts by exploding...in the princess wannabes face. Hints of ice and electricity swarm in the mix, the explosion obscures Naoto's vision as he is surprised at the outcome. 'Note to self, sneezing around dust = doom.'
The vile of dust rolls towards a girl with hair black as the night and yellow eyes, a bow resting atop of her head. While reading her book...or was it a log? She picks it up, peeling her eyes away from her reading material to examine the dust vial. The soot-covered heiress was angered, and Naoto really couldn't keep up with what she was saying. "Unbelievable!" "I am sorry!" She says, pointing the tips of her index fingers together. "You complete and utter dolt!" "Hey maybe if you weren't waving that shit around it wouldn't have happened!" "Oh quiet you! She initiated it! If she hadn't bumped into me this wouldn't have happened!" "Maybe you should have watched where you were going then, you damn ice queen!" She scoffs, "Ice queen!? Oh, how original!" Naoto twitched, frustration clearly showing. The heiress directs her attention back to Ruby. "And you! What are you even doing here!? You look like a lost child, this isn't some combat school! This is Beacon, the most prestigious Academy for huntsmen and huntresses in training some dolt like you shouldn't be here! "Hey! I'll have you know she worked her ass off to get into here, in-fact she got in here TWO years earlier than you!" He says, clearly remembering that Ruby said she would be attending here in two years. That and paired with his readings on Beacon he found out that the age to attend Beacon is 17, it wasn't hard to figure out. "That's just a mistake then! No way in Remnant would Professor Ozpin let a toddler in!" Oh if only she knew. "I said I was sorry princess!" "Its heiress." The girl with the black bow lowers her book and walks towards the trio. "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the largest dust company in all of Remnant." She narrows her eyes at the heiress- whos name is Weiss. "Finally, some recognition." She says. "... The same company infamous for its questionable business partners and controversial labor forces." It then hit Naoto that she was speaking about the Beastskin- Fanus! Fanus dammit.
Actually looking at it now Fanus gave off a different life force- much like the Beastskin. Was Ruby a Fanus? Weiss, Yang, and the mysterious girl didn't have the same energy as the other two, truly questionable.
"Wha- how dare you! Th- the nerve of you!" She says getting in the girl's face and snatching the vial of dust from her hand, frustration visible. The heiress storm off. "I promise I'll make this up to you!" She doesn't respond and continues walking off. "I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day...hehe…" She lets out a sigh. Ruby turns to greet the mysterious women that had saved her from her situation, "So whats-" oh, she was walking off. "Look at it like this, Ruby, this wasn't your fault. If she was looking where she was going this wouldn't have happened, now, would it? Ruby collapses. "I guess your right…" She lets out another sigh "Welcome to Beacon."
A boy with blonde hair, completely ignoring Naoto lets out a greeting towards the small girl. "Hey, my names Jaune." He says, extending his hand towards the silver-eyed girl. "Ruby." She responds, taking Jaunes's hand and pulling herself up. She lets out a snort, "Aren't you the guy that threw up on Naoto's shoe?"
"I- it was perfectly normal! And whos Naoto?" Ruby points behind her, Naoto stands with his hands shoved into his pockets. "Yo...Vomit Boy." "Don't call me that!"
Somewhere, Yang sneezed. Someone stole her joke.
"Look, all I'm saying is that motion sickness is a real issue! Its a much more common problem then people let on." Currently, the trio consisting of Ruby, Jaune, and Naoto were walking- trying to find the auditorium. "Look I'm sorry, vomit boy was the first thing that came to mind," Naoto says as Ruby snickers. "What are you laughing about? Hmph, what if I called you crater face?" "Hey! That wasn't my fault!" "Well, vomiting wasn't my fault either- nevermind." "Well the names Jaune Arc, short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, and the ladies love it." He says accompanying what he was saying with hand gestures. "Do they really?" Naoto and Ruby ask in unison. "No- but they will! Or at least my Mom says...Hey, I have tons of girl experience-" "Siblings don't count." Naoto says, watching as Jaune's argument on why he is a ladies man gets shut down. "So, I got this thing!" Ruby says, breaking the silence and whipping out crescent Rose- her scythe. Naoto eyed it up and down, it really was something. It really reminded him of what his nephew- Ragna had. How was their world doing? He wishes he knew, he made some friends like Celica and Makoto that he'd love to see again.
"It's a scythe that's also a high-impact, compact sniper rifle!" "A what?" Jaune says, visibly confused. Naoto's eyes narrowed, Jaunes life force was...lower than most here. He quickly came to the conclusion that humans had a higher life force thanks to their training, aura, and semblance. But Jaune? He had just a bit over what a normal human would have, it was confusing but it also left him to a few questions of his own. "In short, its also a gun," Ruby says, cocking it. "Oh, that's cool!" "What do you have?" Ruby says, visibility excited as to what he may have. Jaune pulls his basic sword from its sheathe, "I got this sword." He says, chuckling nervously. "Ooh~." Ruby voices out, showing her clear interest in it despite it just being a sword. "Yeah, I've also got this shield!" He speaks, taking the shield out of its collapsed form, which was its sheath. Jaune accidentally hits the button again and fumbles with it before it collapses. "So, whats it else does it do?" "O-oh it just shrinks, so when I get tired of carrying it I can just collapse it." Naoto pipes up "... Doesn't that just keep the same weight?" Jaune facepalms "Yeah…" he trails off. "Oh! What about you Naoto, you were crazy that night! The way your body moved and everything, your leg went so far!" "I-I, what?" Jaune squeaks out, blushing furiously. "Wording Ruby, wording." Naoto says as Ruby cocks her head to the side in confusion. "Also…" Naoto brings his fists up, two gloves covered by a red guarding. "I'm not really a weapons guy...well I do use them but it's more an extension of my brawler's style than anything." "So cool! I myself went a little overboard making Crescent Rose-" "Wait you made that!?" Jaune and Naoto shout in unison. "All students at Signal forge their own weapons, wait you guys didn't?" "Its a hand-me-down, from my Great-Great Grandfather...he fought in the Great War." Naoto raised an eyebrow. He had done research on the great war and it was honestly something that interested him, it was nothing like the battle that he fought in the previous world but still, it was something incredible to read. "So, where are we going?" Naoto asks. "I thought you two knew." Jaune and Naoto are now looking at Ruby. She rubs the back of her neck "I thought you guys knew...hehe."
Ruby, Jaune, and Naoto finally find the auditorium, despite the length it took. "Ruby, Ruby's boyfriend, I saved you guys a seat!" Yang shouts. Naoto would Banishing Fang her into the boundary if she kept this up. "Gotta go, I'll see you after the speech, bye Jaune! C'mon Naoto!" She says, grabbing him by the hand and tugging him away. "Great...where am I supposed to find a nice, quirky girl to talk to now?"
"So Rubes, Nat, hows your first day been?" Naoto was surprised, she had already moved onto nicknames, not that he didn't mind it. "Oh, you mean the day that you left me spinning and eventually explode!?" "Geez Rubes, meltdown already?" "... No she actually exploded." "Yeah yeah, I've been living with her for years, I know her meltdowns and tantrums already." "No Yang, I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage and she just kept yelling at meandshewasomeanyangandthenitexplodedandIjustwantedhertostop!" Little did she know, the heiress was right behind her, "You!" Ruby jumps into Yang's arms, scared by her sudden appearance. "YOUR lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!" "Oh my god, you really exploded." Yang deadpans. "Told you." The bloodedge confirms. "It was an accident!" Ruby says, jumping from her sister's arms. "It was an accident I say!" She was promptly met with a pamphlet to the face. It read: Dust for Dummies...and other inadequate individuals. "The Schnee dust company is not responsible for any and all damages sustained through a Schnee dust company product, although not mandatory we request that you read and check up on any and all Schnee dust compan- the three turned the heiress out, one scared, one annoyed, and the other just not wanting to waste their time. "You really wanna make this up to me?" "...yes?" "Then read this." She says, shoving it into Ruby's hands.
"Look, you guys just got off on the wrong foot-" Yang starts, arms crossed, "so why don't you try again?" "Good idea, sis! Hello Weiss, I'm Ruby Rose, wanna go shopping later?" She says, holding her hand out. "Oh great, and we can go shopping, paint our nails, and talk about boys like blonde, tall, and scraggily, and brown, dull, and thoughtless. "Hm?" Jaune says, standing in the back. "Really?" "No." Naoto, fed up with the Schnee's attitude strikes a verbal fire."If we were the last two people on Remnant I'd use your corpse to start a fire to keep warm." Naoto deadpans. "Even if we weren't the last two people on Remnant I'd STILL use your corpse to keep warm." "Of course, the snotty princess deserves everything, no?" Naoto fires back, a pool of anger brewing between the two. "Whatever, you barbaric caveman! No grace, no elegance, no idea how to treat a lady! No class whatsoever, your definition of stupid! Hell, you could one-up the brat standing right next to you!" "Yeah? That brat could kick your ass!" "Guys...stop fighting," Ruby mutters, worried about being caught in the crossfire of their verbal war. Before the two could continue a mic echoed throughout the auditorium. Identifying the source Naoto saw Ozpin, once more. 'His life force practically sends chills down my spine, just who is this guy?' "I'll...keep this brief," Ozpin says, pushing his glasses up.
"You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you are finished you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you all and I see a pool...of wasted energy. Of wasted potential, of wasted blood, of wasted materials. Today you will prove to me that you can focus the potential, that blood, that energy, and turn it into something great. I will direct you, I will give you...purpose. You assume knowledge will free you from this, but your time here is to prove that knowledge. Knowledge without a goal, knowledge without power… is useless." Naoto felt shivers up his spine, the same he felt when speaking to Relius. His arm buzzed, its feeling was off….Ozpin was off. Its as if it was trying to decide he was human or not. Is he like Clavis? Like Rachel? Like...Raquel? Only time would tell. "It is up to you to take that first step." Ozpin walks away, cane in hand, Glynda takes over. "You will gather in the ballroom tonight, tomorrow your initiation begins. Be ready, be watchful. That is all, you are dismissed."
"He seemed...kinda off, right Rubes?" "Yeah, almost like he wasn't there, did you also get that vibe Naoto? Uhh...Naoto?" 'That buzz went away almost as soon as he left, weird. I should log this and every interaction with him past this point.' "Oi, Nat!" "Huh? Oh sorry, I was just thinking-" "I'm a natural blonde y'know." A voice says, interrupting their conversation. It was Jaune. Weiss facepalms, Yang chuckles, Ruby fiddles with her fingers, and Naoto turns on his heel to leave. 'Ozpin...what the hell are you?'
The night quickly came and the cracked moon showed itself once more. Naoto was now dressed in his black and red plaid pajama pants and a black t-shirt, he kept the arm sleeve on, due to his vampiric arm and all. He was currently sitting against the wall, resting his arm on his duffel bag. Previous to his enlistment in Beacon he purchased a thick, hardcover log with black covers. A dairy, if you will. He wrote at the top of the page. "Day One".
'Today has been an eventful day, to say the least. I met the girl I stopped a robbery with again, she seems nice...but a little weird. Her sister, Yang, is a tease. She doesn't annoy me but it would be appreciated if she stopped calling me "Ruby's boyfriend", it's weird. Weiss...was her name, right? She's snotty. Annoying, rude, has the intelligence of a bug, and is deplorable in every way possible. Not much to say on her. Jaune, he's weird, but he has a good heart. The thing that worries me is his life-force, will he be ok tomorrow? I hope so. Ozpin. Everything about him screams "get away" but...something else tells me otherwise? Call it my gut but despite his life force and overall vibe he seems ok, the words he spoke came from experience. Words from a man that has faced countless wars, countless battles, seen millions die, seen hell raise itself. So who was this man? I can't let me guard down around him. I don't know if I'll see Raquel again, but I hope I do. I miss everyone, even the friends I made from another world. The truth is that I'm scared, scared that my world wasn't saved...and I can't do a damn thing about it. It frustrates me beyond all, but right now Ozpin is my only hope. So for now, I'll stick with him.'
Naoto looks up from his journal, peeling his eyes away from it, watching as Ruby attempts to make conversation with the mysterious girl.
Ruby Rose was currently writing a letter to her friends back at Signal. Without them, all she had was Yang and Naoto- if he even wanted to be friends...which she doubted. "It's like a big ol' slumber party!" Yang says crashing onto her sleeping back beside hers. "So, watcha doing?" "Writing a letter back to the gang in Signal, just miss them…" "Aww how cute- oomph!" Ruby throws a pillow at Yang's face. "I'm just annoyed, first day, and no friends." "Well, you made one friend, Jaune! One and nothing is just 100%!" "Yeah but Weiss hates me...brings me back down to zero." She lets out a sigh. "Ok then….hmmm." Her eyes trail over to a girl with a black bow and yellow eyes. Ruby follows her sister's eyes. "Oh! That's the girl that helped me earlier!" "Oh? What are we waiting for then?" Yang pulls Ruby up and makes her way with Ruby in tow towards the mysterious girl. "Yoo hooo~!" Yang shouts, in a sing-song tone. She stops in front of the girl. "I believe you two may know each other?" "Aren't you that girl that exploded?" "Uh...yeah but you can call me craterrr" She trails off, "Actually, nevermind. You can just call me Ruby." "Okay." "What are you doing?" Whisper-shouts Yang. "I don't know!" Ruby whisper-shouts back. Ruby puts on a smile as Yang takes over. "Soooo what's your name?" The mysterious girl sighs, "Blake." "Well, Blake, I'm Yang!" She says, pointing to herself. "Ruby's older and cooler sister. "Hey!" Ruby shouts. "...I like your bow." Yang says. "Thanks…?" "Yeah it really goes well with your...pajimas." She says, cringing. " "Right…" Blake says, her eyes not looking up from her book. "Nice night, don't you think?" Either Yang couldn't take a hint or she knew she was being an inconvenience. "Yes, almost as nice as this book I was reading." The sisters don't move. "... That I will continue to read." They still don't move, same stupid smile. "As soon as you leave…" "Yeahhh this girl is a lost cause, c'mon Rubes-"
"What is it about?" "I'm sorry?" "Your book, does it have a name?" Clearly having an interest in why she showed interest in her book she explained it. "I-its about a man with two souls, each fighting for control." Yang chimes in "Oh yeah, that's really lovely…" "I love books, Yang always read them to me before I went to bed, heroes, and monsters...its why I wanna be a huntress." Blake, now opening up a bit, chuckles. "Now whys that? Hoping to live happily ever after, I'm sorry but that's not how it works." "I'm hoping we all will, as a girl I wanted to be just another hero, someone that stood up for what's right." "That's very ambitious for a child, but darkness is everywhere...a child can't handle that." "That's why we're here." Ruby gives a smile to Blake. "I'm so proud of my sister!" She swaddles Ruby, treating her like a toddler. "YANG CUT IT OUT!" They begin to fight and end up on the floor, slapping and scratching.
Naoto stands up, setting his book down he walks over to handle the situation. "Oi, cut it out, both of you." "She started it!" The two sisters shoot in unison. Blake looks at Naoto with curiosity before sighing. "Excuse me!" A familiar voice shouts. "Some of us are trying to sleep so if you could shut up I would be oh so grateful!" "Watch your mouth ice queen!" "Oh great its the caveman!" "Caveman!? Looks whos talking!" "What's that supposed to mean?" "Nat's right! Your just some stuck up bit-." "Guys be quiet, people are trying to sleep!" "Oh so now you're on my side." "I was always on your side!" Blake blows out her candle and the room goes dark. Naoto lets out a sigh "Goodnight." He says navigating through the darkness and back to where his belongings were, tonight he would be sleeping on a cold floor and use a duffel bag as a pillow...great.
A man limped through Vale's streets, the hole in his chest screaming. Or it would have if he were human. The boundary let him pass, pass into what seemed to be a different dimension? His fight with that bloodedge- Naoto was it? Left him wounded, but he also acted as though they had met before. But if his interactions with Relius, the Imperator, and Yuuki Terumi meant anything it was that other universes were possible. So as a last-ditch effort he jumped into the Boundary, and it brought him here. He wasn't speaking his Native Language, that much he knew. He was quite fluent in it as well...how intriguing. The man turns into an alley and slumps. His shut eyes crack open at the broken moon.
"To new beginnings, I wish you the best, Terumi-Sama."
Uh, this is like an ending note? Right? Eh, whatever. Once again CRITICIZE ME, whatever it is I will take it to heart and make an effort to improve my writing. I wanna do this story justice. I don't want this to just be: Naoto Kurogane winds up in Remnant and the plot goes the same. I wanna change it and make it something I can be proud of. So please, any tips or just anything, in general, will be welcomed. I'm sure you can guess who the man at the end was though... :)
