Yeah, I got to thinking about the ending of the last episode of TVD and I wanted to do an AU for it. At first, I was going to do one for the ending of the last episode of TO, but you know what? Why don't I combine the two? Anyway, thank for you the reviews and NEVER GIVE UP ON KLAROLINE!
TVD 5x15 & TO 1x16 AU.
And how can I stand here with you,
And not be moved by you?
Would you tell me,
How could it be,
Any better than this?
Cause you're all I want,
You're all I need,
You're everything, everything.
Caroline walked as far away from the Salvatore property as she could, the conversation she had with Tyler still fresh in her mind. Where did that asshole get off acting like such an immature little jerk? Just because he found out about her and Klaus being together, that didn't give him the right to remind her about it every five minutes. Once she was in the woods, she came to the place where she and Klaus had their...scene, and it brought tears to her eyes, mostly because she wished that he was here, like he always was, right there, even when she least expected it. She was still thinking about it when she heard her phone ring. Not sure who this was, she picked up the phone and looked at the ID scree. When she saw Klaus' name, she smiled through the tears. Although she didn't know why he was calling, but not about to let it go into voice mail, she pressed "SEND" and placed it by her ear.
"Klaus?"
"Caroline. I didn't expect you to pick up."
"That makes two of us, because I wasn't expecting you to call me," she replied. "Though, I'm glad you did. I just had a horrible night."
"As did I," said Klaus. "Why don't you tell me about yours first and I'll tell you about mine?"
Caroline nodded. Ever the gentleman. "Well, first of all, Katherine Pierce is finally dead and out of our lives. But, that's not the part of my night that was horrible. The part that was horrible was that Tyler brought up the fact that we slept together. Where did that asshole get off shoving that in my face? Yes, we did it, and yes, I admit that I enjoyed every moment of it, but that didn't give him the right to bring it up every five minutes!"
"Apparently, he doesn't know when to let sleeping dogs lie, if you'll pardon the expression," said Klaus. "I take it you handled the situation the way you always do, get up in his face and tell him that you didn't appreciate it?"
"That's exactly what I did," said Caroline. "I told him to get over it or get out of my life. Of course, I didn't give him a chance to reply. I just walked off, leaving him in the dust." She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Klaus, am I a terrible person?"
"On the contrary, love, I think you're an amazing person," said Klaus. "Why do you think I was so attracted to you in the first place? You brought out something in me that I thought was buried centuries ago, and for that, I am eternally grateful to you."
Caroline said nothing as she listened to him, sniffing and wiping a tear from her ear. Shit, why did he have to be so perfect? "Thank you." Not giving him a chance to answer, she added, "Now, I believe you were going to tell me about the horrible night that you had?"
"That's right, I was going to tell you about that, wasn't I? Well, I suppose I should," said Klaus. "My sister has left New Orleans for good."
"Rebekah left?" said Caroline. "Why? What happened?"
"It had to do with a squabble we had in the graveyard while we were trapped inside, waiting for the spell to lifted from it," said Klaus. "I accused Rebekah of betraying her own blood when she summoned my father in 1919. She tried valiantly to justify her reason, of course, but I would hear none of it. It got to the point to where I stabbed her with the white oak stake."
"You stabbed her?"
"Relax, love, I didn't get her in the heart," said Klaus. "When she regained consciousness, I told her that we were too damaged to remain together, and that she was free to go and never come back."
"Wow, I...never realized that you had it that bad," said Caroline. "I'm sorry that your sister left."
"Thank you, Caroline," said Klaus. "You have no idea how much I appreciate you saying that. To be honest, I kind of wish you were right now. I could definitely use some comfort."
"The feeling is mutual, believe me," said Caroline. "Given the shit that went down tonight, I could go for some comfort as well. You always seemed to be there for me whenever I needed you, even when I least expected you to."
"Things will get better, I promise you," said Klaus. "I know it may not seem so right now, but eventually, things will get better. You're a strong young woman, Caroline, and therefore, you'll be able to pick yourself up and dust yourself off."
Caroline smiled. "Thank you, Klaus."
"You are most welcome, love," said Klaus. "You know that you can call me any time and I'll always be there to listen."
"I do," said Caroline. "And you can do the same. I'll even consider coming to New Orleans, because you sound like you can definitely use someone there to talk to other than your brother. Don't get me wrong, Elijah does seem like a dependable person to consult with, but I know that you'd rather have me there."
"You are correct about that, Caroline," said Klaus. "I could definitely use you here by my side. But, one day, I know that you'll take me up on my offer."
"I intend to," said Caroline. "Well, I'm grateful that you called me tonight. Hearing your voice is comforting and it helped me take my mind off the situation with Tyler at the mansion."
"Hearing your voice has done the same for me," said Klaus. "Granted, seeing Rebekah leave was the hardest thing in the world, talking to you has made it better."
Caroline smiled. "Well, I guess I'd better let you go. It was good to talk to you, Klaus, and I hope to talk to you again soon."
"As do I. Try to have a good night, Caroline."
After saying good night to Klaus, Caroline placed her phone back into her purse, sitting down with her back against the tree and looking up at the sky, her earlier smile still there.
Note: Hope you enjoy this one shot, lovelies! Keep the Klaroline faith and our couple will be together forever soon!
