This next installment of "Eternal Flame" is a random one shot that is based on a fic I hope to do in the future, called "To Tempt an Angel." It's a Klaroline story, of course, so this will sort of serve as a back door pilot, in a matter of speaking. Enjoy, lovelies!
And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
Never let me go
Never let me go
Never let me go
Never let me go
And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
In the crushes of heaven for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean delivered me
The smell of fire, brimstone, and sulfur reached her nose as Caroline awoke, gasping as she took a look around at where she was. That's strange, why would she be in such a place? Wasn't she just in the Grand Palace in Heaven mere moments before everything went black? She tried to tell herself that this wasn't real, and that Gabriel and Raphael, those asshole archangels, were playing one of their sick jokes on her. She had been warned of their antics because she was a newbie among the more experienced angels. Of course, she doubted that they were capable of sending her to a place as horrible as this.
No sooner did she wake than the door to her room opened and in walked a woman dressed in a black dress that left nothing to the imagination, a pair of black wings and red horns sticking out of her head, clashing with her blonde hair. She gave her a rather sinister grin, which made Caroline shake with fear.
"I see you're finally awake. I was beginning to think that you weren't ever going to regain consciousness."
Caroline tried to be brave as she said, "Who are you? And where am I?"
"I'm Rebekah, and you, sweetpea, are in Hell."
"I'm in Hell?" said Caroline. "But, that's impossible? I committed no sin! I was just recruited into the Kingdom of Heaven! If you don't believe me, just ask St. Peter and he'll set the record straight!"
"Oh, you've committed a sin all right, only you weren't aware of it," said Rebekah. "The sin you committed was catching the eye of my brother, Niklaus, who just so happens to the ruler of Hell. He ordered you to be brought here."
Caroline didn't answer, trembling at the mention of that name. She remembered hearing it when she accidentally eavesdropped on a conversation that the archangel Michael was having in the Great Hall with an angel whose name she couldn't remember. According to what she heard, Niklaus was very powerful and had the ability to lure anyone to his side without that much effort at all.
"I don't understand," she said. "Why would he have me brought here? I don't even know him."
Rebekah smiled. "Maybe not now, you will. In fact, he has requested your presence in his chambers immediately. And I would advise against struggling, because I have been known to have a very wicked temper."
Caroline nodded, not about to take any chances, especially if Rebekah's temper was as wicked as she said it was. Folding her wings behind her back, she followed Rebekah out of the room and as they walked through the corridors, she couldn't help but mentally compare it to the Grand Palace in Heaven, only it was darker and had an evil undertone to it. Then again, this was Hell, the place where the unworthy were sent to burn for all eternity. Even though it still scared her to think that she herself was in such a place, Caroline forced herself to be brave. After all, being afraid wouldn't serve her well in a place like this. Fear was what the demons in this realm fed on, so it was in her best interest to not let them see that she was afraid.
After what seemed like a long time, the two women arrived at a door that led to a throne room, guarded by two rather tough looking demons. Rebekah held her hand up when they tried to attack, which seemed to discourage them from what they were about to do.
"I am not here to cause trouble, tempted as I am, but I am here to see my brother."
The demons nodded and opened the door, allowing Rebekah and Caroline to enter. As they entered the room, Caroline couldn't help but gaze in awe at the other blonde. Judging from the performance out there, it looked as though she had power enough to kill those demons without breaking a sweat. Rebekah noticed her looking at her and smiled as she said, "I know, my power is impressive. That's why my brother considers me his greatest ally."
Caroline nodded. "I can see why he would. Those demons would've torn my wings off if you hadn't discouraged them."
"Yes, but then, they'd have to answer to Nik," said Rebekah. "His orders were for you to be brought here unharmed."
Caroline raised an eyebrow at that. Wait, did she just refer to him as Nik? I thought his name was Niklaus? Better not question it, though. I'm sure that I'll find out eventually.
No sooner did she complete that thought than they approached the throne, which was occupied by Niklaus himself. Caroline shook her head as she got a glimpse of what he looked like. He was rather handsome, with short, slightly curly dark blonde hair, greenish blue eyes, and wearing a sleeveless black shirt, black leather pants, and boots. The red horns that adorned his head were slightly longer than Rebekah's, making him older. He smirked when he noticed her reaction.
Maintaining his smirk, he looked toward Rebekah and said, "I saw how you handled the guards, sister. Your skills are as sharp as ever."
Rebekah smirked as well. "Thank you, brother." She cleared her throat. "I'll leave you to get acquainted. If you need me, I'll be outside."
Caroline didn't get to protest because Rebekah was gone before she could get the words out. As soon as they were alone, Niklaus arose from the throne and approached her, making her step back to avoid him getting close to her.
"Why are you afraid of me, love? I have no intention of harming you."
Caroline ignored her pounding heart as she replied, "Why did you bring me here?"
Niklaus smirked. "I do apologize for that, love. The reason I brought you here because I think you'd make a worthy Queen for me. You have great potential to rule at my side. I know that you don't think so now, but you'll realize it eventually and when you do, you'll make a powerful Queen." He placed his hands on her face. "Don't be afraid of me, Caroline. As I said before, I have no intention of harming you. You are in no danger here. My minions have orders not to touch you. The only one who has that privilege is me, and anyone who questions that shall be subjected to the most unspeakable tortures in this realm."
Then, before Caroline could answer him, he kissed her passionately. After a moment of hesitation, she returned the kiss and brought her hands up and placed them on top of his as Klaus wrapped his wings around her and brought her closer.
Note: I know, I know, this is different. But, as I said before, this is based on a future Klaroline story I hope to write eventually. Enjoy and keep the Klaroline faith!
