Okay, I got this idea from watching last night's TO and I wanted to include it in "Eternal Flame." Don't ask, let's just say it bothered me and I wanted to do something about it!

TO 2x06 AU.

Caroline watched quietly as Klaus laid Elijah's unconscious body on the bed. His emotions were all over the place and she didn't know which one was the strongest. Either way, she felt bad that the hybrid was going through such hell at the moment. She cautiously approached him and stood by his side, gently taking his hand in hers while taking his arm with her free hand and resting her head on his shoulder to let him know that she was here for him.

"She's going to pay what she's done."

His words brought her out of her reverie. "Who is?"

"My mother," he replied. "She did this to him. That filthy bitch, she's gone and hurt me, and this time, it goes deeper than any pain she's ever subjected me to. To make matters worse, she offered to put me in the body of a wolf so that I can finally have happiness."

"You didn't accept her offer, did you?"

"No, Caroline, I didn't," said Klaus. "Knowing her, it was a lie to get me to trust her." He sighed. "She even told me some sob story about a witch she knew that took the firstborn children of every generation." He saw the look on her face. "Yes, and that includes Hope."

Caroline felt her anger threaten to seep through, even though she tried to fight it. She couldn't believe that Esther would be that cruel. "Rebekah will never let that monster come anywhere near her! She'll fight to keep Hope safe! I mean, that's why we sent her away, right? To protect her?"

Klaus nodded solemnly. "Yes, but somehow, I think my mother will have a plan up her sleeve."

As he finished what he was saying, Caroline felt another wave of emotion from him, only it wasn't aimed at Esther, it was aimed at someone else entirely. That's weird. Who else is he angry at besides Esther?

"What is it, Klaus?"

"I met my real father."

"Your real father?" said Caroline. "But, how?"

"I don't know," said Klaus. "The last time I saw him, he was impaled, courtesy of Mikael. I refused to believe it was actually him. I thought it was an illusion that Esther created to cause me more misery. He tried to convince me that he wasn't, but I didn't believe him for a second."

Caroline nodded, even though she had a hard time believing that Klaus' biological father could be alive after Mikael slaughtered him. Honestly, just how much pain could these people inflict on Klaus, when his only crime was being the son of another man? She wanted to ask more questions, but something told her that it wouldn't be worth it, seeing as how Klaus had suffered enough at the hands of his bitch of a mother.

"We'll defeat her," she said finally. "If you killed her once, you can definitely do it again. And you know that I have your back, no matter what. I don't give a shit what I have to do, but I will fight at your side."

Klaus forced a smile at her words. She was definitely loyal, and he needed her loyalty more than ever, especially with Elijah out for the count and God knows how long it would be before he woke up again. He had suffered a harsh blow thanks to Esther and her tales of secrecy and lies, and he wouldn't rest until he had rid himself of that horrible woman for good.
