Hey, lovelies! I know it's been a while since I last updated "Eternal Flame," (the last time being April 29) but I wasn't inspired by much. But, I'll treat you guys to an update for your patience. No spoilers, except it's a random AU and everything is Klaroline and nothing hurts.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up to more than I can be.

Caroline stood by the window, watching the rain fall outside and held a cup of tea in her hands. There was a calm about it, a very soothing calm. Of course, she couldn't help but wonder if something was going to disrupt that calm. Sure enough, she heard the sound of the door being flung open and the roar of a very pissed off hybrid, a pissed off hybrid that she knew all too well.

Uh oh, she thought. Nik sounds angry, and when he's angry, that means something happened tonight. Better go see what it was that got him so upset.

Her cup of tea still firmly in her hand, Caroline left her place at the window and when she got to the door, she gasped at the sight her eyes beheld: Klaus was covered in blood, made worse by the fact that he was also soaking from the rain he had no doubt been caught in while he was out. Shit, what the hell happened out there?

"Nik, what happened? Where did all the blood come from?"

Klaus looked at her, having sensed that he wasn't alone. "I...I lost control."

"Lost control?"

"Yes, lost control," said Klaus. "I didn't want it to happen, but it did, and now, some innocent bystanders are dead because of it."

Caroline carefully approached him, framing his face in her hands, not caring if she was getting blood on them. "Nik, I'm going to ask you something and I want you to answer me very honestly. Were there any witnesses?"

"Yes, but I compelled them to forget what they had seen," said Klaus. "Even so, it doesn't change the fact that I killed humans that didn't deserve to be killed." He sighed. "Caroline, you must be ashamed of me."

"Ashamed of you?" said Caroline. "Why would I be ashamed of you?"

"Innocent people died tonight," said Klaus. "I promised you that I wouldn't harm anyone, and yet, I broke my promise. If you never want to see me again because of what I've done, I..."

"Niklaus Mikaelson, you listen to me and you listen good," said Caroline. "You didn't know what you were doing when you killed those people. It was an accident, and I'm proud of you for being honest with me. As far as never wanting to see you again, I will never turn my back on you. I knew what I was getting myself into when I started this relationship, and I'm not going to let one little mistake come between us."

Klaus didn't know what to think as he listened to her. "What did I do to deserve you?"

"You showed me a side of yourself that you've never showed to anyone, that's what you did to deserve me," said Caroline. "I couldn't be prouder of having a brave, strong, and sexy man like you in my life." She kissed him. "No matter what, I'm in your corner."

Klaus returned her kiss and moaned against her lips as it deepened. In that moment, he forgot about what happened earlier, and he was grateful to the little blonde vampire that was kissing him and making him feel better. After a few minutes, he pulled back, looking into her blue eyes with his greenish blue ones.

"Thank you, Caroline. You have no idea how much this means to me."

"No need to thank me, Nik," she replied. "The fact that I've made you feel better is all the thanks I need." She kissed him again. "I meant it when I said I'm in your corner. Nothing will ever make me leave you. You are more important to me than some stupid incident."

Klaus smiled and pulled her closer to him, reveling in the moment between them and feeling good knowing that Caroline had his back in spite of what he might have done.

Note: Better late than never, huh? I know it's short, but I didn't want to repeat anything I already said. #WeStillFancyKlaroline!
