Hello, everyone! It's been a long time since I last updated "Eternal Flame," hasn't it? The last time I touched it was February 28, 2016. Well, inspiration was lacking, and I went on hiatus until I was ready to write again. Since I'm here, I may as well treat you to an update. No spoilers, just enjoy what I have

ON WITH THE SHOW!

Chapter 97 – Star of the Show

Cause everywhere we go girl
You're the star of the show
And everybody's wondering and wanting to know
What's your name?
Who's that girl, with the prettiest smile in the world?
Oh, what gets me the most is you don't even know
That you are, you are, you are
The star of the show
You're the star of the show, yeah, baby

Caroline smiled as she felt the sea breeze caress her face. She and Klaus were taking a weekend cruise on his private yacht, and so far, the weather had been cooperating. While they were in the planning process, Caroline had watched the weather almost religiously, hoping that they'd have smooth sailing for their journey. Thankfully, the forecast showed clear skies for the entire weekend, which put her mind at ease. The last thing she needed for Mother Nature to play one of her nasty pranks while she and Klaus were trying to have a romantic getaway.

She was still enjoying the view when a pair of strong arms wrapped themselves around her from behind. Another smile appeared, because she knew those arms from anywhere. "I take it you were wondering where I was?"

Klaus smiled. "Indeed. Though, I knew that there aren't that many places for you to disappear on this vessel, and the only other place I could look was here on the stern." He kissed her neck softly. "Enjoying the trip so far, love?"

"Are you kidding? I love it," she replied. "In fact, I'm surprised our schedules allowed us to take the cruise." She opened her eyes and turned around in his arms, wrapping her own around his neck, kissing his lips. "Then again, with the many connections you seem to have, you were able to make that happen."

Klaus smiled against her lips, returning her kiss. "I can't fool you, can I? But, you are right about me having connections."

Caroline giggled. In that moment, she found herself falling more and more in love with him. How did she ever get so lucky to have a gorgeous man like him in her life? Don't think about it. You'll ruin the moment.

For a few minutes, there was a bit of a silence between them until Klaus said, "Did I tell you how beautiful you are today?"

"No, but I have a feeling you'll be telling me by the end of the weekend." She smiled. "That and you'll be immortalizing my beauty in a new painting, just like you always do." She saw the look on his face. "What? You're surprised that I know that much about you?"

"No," said Klaus. "But, once again, you are right. Given the fact that you are a perfect subject for me to paint, I'll be immortalizing this in a painting." He kissed her again. "What do you say we go below deck and share a bubbly? I took the liberty of bringing a bottle of chardonnay and I don't intend on wasting it."

"Sounds like a plan to me."

Klaus smiled again and led her below deck, where there was indeed a bottle of chardonnay waiting for them. Caroline was impressed. This man certainly didn't spare any expense, which was one of the many things she loved most about him. He helped her into one of the cushioned seats and took out two glasses, pouring the white liquid into each before giving one to Caroline. She sniffed it before taking a swig. To her surprise, it tasted sweet.

"This is good bubbly."

"Like it, do you?"

"Yes, I do," she replied. "It's sweet."

Klaus said nothing and sat down next to her, taking a sip from his glass while admiring her. She looked positively beautiful in the white halter dress she was wearing, which he had given her as a gift on her last birthday, along with the blue diamond necklace around her neck that matched her eyes. There was another silence as they enjoyed their drink. Finally, the silence was broken by Caroline singing softly to herself. Klaus listened to the song and his heart skipped several beats. He loved hearing her sing, because her voice was as beautiful as the rest of her. She stopped singing and saw him looking at her.

"Don't stop on my account, love. I enjoyed it."

"It's really not that good," said Caroline. "It's just some song I wrote one night while when I couldn't sleep. I started writing and kept going. Before I knew it, it was finished."

"Have you considered recording it?"

Caroline blushed. "You really think I should?"

"Oh, definitely," said Klaus. "I think the world deserves to hear you. I already share my paintings, so I think it's only fitting that you share your voice. There's no reason to hide it, Caroline. You have great talent."

"What if they don't like what they hear?"

Klaus took her hands in his. "I have faith in you, Caroline. You have never backed away from anything during the time we've known each other, and I know that you are more talented than you give yourself credit for."

Caroline didn't reply right away, just considered what he was telling her. She squeezed his hands. "All right, I'll give it a shot. Even though I have no idea where it will lead, but at least I know I tried." She smiled. "I also know that I'll have you by my side."

"There's no place I'd rather be," said Klaus. "I'll be your cheerleader, Caroline, because you're always my cheerleader."

Caroline smiled again and kissed him. "I love you, Klaus Mikaelson, with all my heart."

"I love you too, Caroline Forbes."
