Hello everyone and welcome to chapter two of Pokemon Delta Emerald. There isn't really much to say or update. I am considering updating twice a week on Sundays and Wednesday. Comment if you want me to do that or keep the same update schedule. Anyways enjoy the next chapter!"

Ryan woke up to his alarm going off as he hopped out of bed. He hopped into the shower and got dressed quickly while brushing his teeth. He grabbed his green bag and ran out the door towards the Professor's lab. He ran through the towns small streets as he enjoyed the sweet morning breeze. He ran in the lab and saw May was already there waiting on him as Professor Birch and her were in an animated discussion.

"Ah Ryan I see you're ready to take on the pokémon league challenge," Professor Birch said proudly.

"You bet! How do I register?" Ryan asked.

"I just need your pokédex," Professor Birch said.

Ryan handed him the pokédex as the professor scanned the device in the machine. It synced up the information about Ryan as he was amazed at how much his pokédex knew about him. It even knew he was from Olivine City which shocked him. The process finished as Professor Birch handed the pokédex back to the young teen.

"Wow that was pretty cool," Ryan said.

"Yeah I'm glad that Professor Oak was able to build this thing. It can be very handy when in the field," Professor Birch said.

"Well I'm registered as a coordinator. Are you excited to be a trainer?" May said.

"Yeah I'm excited so when are you leaving?" Ryan asked.

May smiled as she was going to reveal a surprise to her new friend. She didn't want to be alone the whole time so she decided that maybe they should travel together.

"I'm leaving with you," May said.

Ryan was shocked as he wasn't expecting that May would want to travel with him. Ryan was glad she wanted to go with him as he was starting to like her as a friend and they had a blast when traveling to Route 103.

"Sure you can travel with me. The more the merrier as they say," Ryan said.

"Awesome! The world better watch out cause we're taking the roles as the greatest and we won't stop until we are the best!" May exclaimed.

Ryan laughed as May was very bubbly which reminded him of a friend he had in Johto. He jumped up in joy as he was excited to be going on his journey. Ryan was just glad that he could take on the world with the help of May.

"Well before you two go off we decided to hold a going away party," Professor Birch said.

"Aw thanks dad," May said.

Ryan's mom and May's family all came in with some signs congratulating them on starting their new joinery. Ryan choked up and teared up as he tried to cover the tears. He hugged his mom as May talked with her folks.

"You ready to take on the world," Darla said.

"Mom I've been dreaming of this since forever. I promise I'll win no matter what," Ryan said.

"You can do anything you accomplish. Just be ready for the hardest experience of your life."

Ryan nodded as he saw May motioning for him to get ready. He hugged his mom one more time before waving goodbye to everyone. May and Ryan ran out of the lab running into the distance of Route 101. He was prepped for the journey ahead. Ryan was happy as he knew that his dreams were about to come true. May was also happy to see her dreams become a reality as she wanted to be the top coordinator in the world. Darla watched as her boy disappeared into the horizon as she began to tear up.

"I hope you accomplish you're dreams Ryan," she whispered to herself.

She hoped that her husband would go easy on him as he was strict about this. She knew that he would be his first test as he was a gym leader. She hoped that Ryan wouldn't be too hard on his dad as he had been away a lot lately and the move she could tell made him mad.

#

Ryan finally made it to Route 102 after he bought some poke balls from the store. He noticed the nerdy kid was done with whatever he was doing. They walked up to the nerdy boy as Ryan and May decided to figure out what the deal was as they were curious.

"Hey what did you find that was so important?" Ryan asked.

The boy turned towards them as he began to chuckle nervously. Ryan was confused as he knew something was up.

"Well your see they were just human footprints," the nerd said.

Ryan laughed as May and him walked past the boy. May wasn't surprised that the boy wasted his time on nothing as he was so preoccupied with his findings to block the route. She was glad he didn't get what he wanted.

"Route 102 here we are!" May yelled.

"Yeah let's catch a pokemon!" Ryan said.

Ryan scanned the route and saw a blue pokemon with a green lily pad on top of him. Ryan crept close and sent out his Torchic as he was ready to catch the pokémon.

"Torchic use scratch to weaken it!" Ryan yelled.

Torchic ran up to the pokemon and scratched it as it cried out. The green and blue lily pad pokemon was weakened significantly as Ryan threw out a poke ball. The ball shook three times before a click was heard. Ryan ran over and grabbed the ball as he held it up in the air.

"Yes! I caught my first pokémon!" Ryan shouted in glee.

May was impressed as she scanned the pokémon in her pokédex. Dexter came up as they were surprised he could scan pokémon in pokeballs.

"Lotad the lily pad pokémon. It lives in clear ponds and serves as a ferry to other pokémon that can't swim," Dexter said.

"Wow interesting," May said.

"Yeah pretty interesting," Ryan said.

They continued down Route 102 until they saw a young boy loitering around the route. Ryan approached him wanting to know why he was acting shifty.

"Hey you want to battle!" the boy yelled.

"Sure I guess we can do that,"Ryan said.

"The name is Calvin by the way," Calvin introduced.

"My name is Ryan," Ryan said.

"You must have just started your journey."

"You would be correct."

The young boy nodded as he sent out a Poochyena. Ryan sent out his Torchic. The Poochyena stared down it's rival as it prepared to strike.

"Torchic use ember!" Ryan ordered.

"Poochyena use growl!" Calvin yelled.

Flaming embers fired from Torchic's mouth as it hit a growling Poochyena. Poochyena went flying back as Ryan knew that he had the killing blow.

"Torchic finish it off with another ember attack!" Ryan commanded.

Torchic shot a fury of embers as Poochyena fell to the ground fainting from the attack. Calvin sighed as he called back his pokémon.

"Good game," Calvin said.

"Thanks you. You did well too," Ryan said.

May ran up to Ryan as she tackled hug him to the ground. She was so glad he won his first battle.

"You did it Ryan!" May shouted in glee.

"Yeah I'm glad too," Ryan said.

They both got up as they began to walk towards the city. The hot sun beat on their skin as they were near the outskirts of Petalburg city.

"Let's get to Petalburg and head to the pokémon center," Ryan said.

May nodded as they proceeded to Petalburg where Ryan would meet up with his dad for the first time since the move. He still had a vendetta against his dad as he wanted to prove to him that he had what it takes to be a trainer.

#

Ryan arrived in Petalburg as he stood in front of the pokémon center where he had just healed his pokémon. Ryan was hesitant to go see his dad but knew he had to in order to complete the gym challenge. May came out after healing her pokémon.

"You ready to go to the gym?" May asked.

"Not particularly," Ryan said.

"You're not excited to see your dad?" May asked.

"It's complicated. He is very strict. Plus he uprooted us from my hometown," Ryan said.

May nodded as she understood his hesitation. They continued to walk to the gym as they finally got to the outside. Ryan sighed as he grabbed the door and opened it up. They both walked in as they saw a black haired tall man with a red and gray sweatshirt and black pants. He perked up as he saw his son.

"So you begin you're pokémon journey Ryan," Norman asked.

"Yes dad and I'm ready to take you on!" Ryan yelled.

Norman began to laugh as Ryan looked at his dad with anger flaring in his eyes. Ryan raised his brow wondering what was so funny.

"Why are you laughing?" Ryan asked with anger.

"Cause you need the other badges to fight me," Norman laughed.

A young boy with tea green hair came in as he wondered where the gym leader was. Ryan argued with his dad as he approached the two who were arguing.

"I should be in Johto right now!" Ryan yelled.

"I had to take the opportunity here while I could! So stop!" Norman said.

"Excuse me?" the tea green haired boy said.

Norman and Ryan turned around and saw the tea green haired boy twiddling his thumbs together nervously. He looked almost sickly with his pale skin and skinny body. Ryan wondered who this boy was and what he was doing here.

"Ah Wally! What can I do for you?" Norman asked.

"We talked earlier about catching a pokémon," Wally said.

"Ah yes... look Ryan go out with your girlfriend and help this boy catch a pokémon," Norman said.

May blushed as she didn't expect to be called Ryan's girlfriend. She had a crush on him as she knew he was pretty good looking. Ryan gritted his teeth in anger as he hated his dad who was smirking embarrassing him.

"She's not my girlfriend!" Ryan yelled.

"Okay whatever you say Ryan. Just do as your told," Norman said.

"Come on we'll help you out," May said as she tugged at Ryan.

"Fine I guess I'll help you out," Ryan said.

"Thank you," Wally said.

"Here take this Zigzagoon to help Wally," Norman said.

"Thank you Mr. Hoffman," Wally said.

Norman nodded as Ryan and May followed the young boy back to Route 102. They went into the patch of grass as a wild Ralts appeared out of nowhere. Wally sent the Zigzagoon that had been loaned to him as he was shaking in fear.

"All right what do I do now?" Wally asked.

"Wally attack it with tackle," Ryan said.

"All right... Zigzagoon use tackle," Wally timidly ordered.

Zigzagoon charged at Ralts as it knocked it down to the ground with a tackle. The Ralts was hurt bad as Ryan knew it would be a good time to catch it.

"Wally use that pokeball to catch it," Ryan said.

"Okay... go pokeball!" Wally cried out.

He threw the ball as it engulfed the Ralts in a red light and sucked it in the ball. The ball shook only once before it stopped shaking. Wally jumped up in joy as he had gotten his first pokémon. He called back Zigzagoon as he turned to face a happy May. Ryan was polite but still angry that his father would waste his time.

"Good job Wally," May said.

"Thank you guys. I plan on taking the gym challenge as soon as I can," Wally said.

They walked back to the gym as Ryan saw his dad waiting outside the gym with a smirk on his face. Norman was happy to see Wally getting his first pokémon.

"Congrats on your first pokémon Wally and thanks for helping him Ryan," Norman said.

"Thank you Mr. Hoffman. I'll be heading to to Rustboro City then," Wally said.

"I'll see you eventually Wally... and when I do we should battle," Ryan said.

Wally nodded as he ran off to his house. Ryan looked at his dad as he knew that this would be extremely awkward.

"Look Ryan why don't you and your girlfriend join me for dinner tonight?" Norman requested.

May blushed as Ryan shook his head in anger. He walked off with May in tow as the two decided to contact their parents and tell them they got to Petalburg.

#

Ryan called his mom in the pokémon center as she answered all the way in Littleroot. A picture came up on the video phone as Ryan waved to her.

"Ryan how's Petalburg treating you? Is dad okay?" Darla asked.

"I'm doing fine... Dad is being dad?" Ryan asked confused.

Darla looked at her son puzzled by his reaction to his dad. She wondered what happened between the two of them to cause this animosity.

"Ryan what did he do?" Darla asked.

"Mom he laughed when I challenged him at a gym battle. Then he proceeded to tell me that he wasn't the first gym leader in Hoenn!" Ryan complained.

"Ryan I know he bothers you sometimes but you need to make amends with your father. You only get one father," Darla said.

"Mom i don't know if that's possible. I'm supposed to go to dinner with him but I really don't want to."

"Ryan you must! Your dad wants to apologize for bringing to Hoenn but is very stubborn sometimes. Just give him a chance."

Ryan nodded as he decided to give his dad a chance. Ryan knew that this could be the last chance he would give to his dad as he was growing tired of his constant excuses. Ryan felt a tap on his shoulder as he saw the beautiful May dressed in her usual attire.

"Well mom I got to go," Ryan said.

"Just one more thing make sure you tell dad I send my good wishes," Darla said.

Ryan nodded as he hung up the phone. May was waiting for him at the lounge of the pokémon center as they both sat down. They had time to kill as they decided to chat with each other.

"Why is it so tense between you and your dad?" May asked.

"I don't know May... things have always been like that I guess?" Ryan answered.

"Well you only get one dad Ryan. You should patch things up with him," May said.

Ryan nodded as he knew that he had to forgive his dad eventually. He wondered why he grew to dislike him in the first place. Ryan decided to not dwell on it further. He decided to make a funny joke about earlier.

"Could you believe my dad thinking we were together?" Ryan laughed.

"Yeah I thought it was pretty funny..." May said with a twinge of disappointment.

Ryan didn't catch on to this as he was clueless as ever. May liked his naive attitude towards love. She was growing a crush and she hoped he realized it eventually.

"May! You okay?" Ryan asked loudly.

"Huh! Oh yeah I'm fine just thinking is all," May answered.

Ryan found it weird that she blanked out like that but decided to shrug it off. He got a text on his phone from his dad telling them to come over.

"Let's get going I guess," Ryan said.

"Think positive Ryan," May said.

Ryan shrugged as he walked outside and headed towards the gym where his dad worked. He was cooking a homemade meal for them. He just hoped that dinner would be smooth for him.

#

Ryan stepped inside the gym as he could smell the food coming from the small dining area. Many of the pupils training under him were eating as he saw his dad sitting alone at the table. He looked up and saw his son as he motioned for him to come here.

"Ryan I hope you're enjoying the city?" Norman asked.

"I am but I can't wait to get to the next city and get my first badge," Ryan said.

"What pokemon did you start out with?"

"I started with a Torchic and recently caught a Lotad."

Norman nodded as he was proud of his son for taking on this grueling challenge. He knew his son would have a tough time beating the challenge but knew he was destined for greatness.

"I just want to apologize for being hard on you lately and for uprooting you from Olivine," Norman said.

"Do you mean it dad?" Ryan asked.

"I do but I know you have the tenacity to be the best so I approve of you taking on the gym challenge," Norman said.

"I was going to do regardless of your approval dad," Ryan laughed.

"Yeah I knew that. So May I know your dad is Professor Birch right?" Norman asked the quiet girl who was eating her food.

She waited to finish chewing as she looked up at the older man who looked a lot like an adult version of Ryan. He was still pretty youthful for his age though.

"Wait you know my dad?" May asked.

"Yes we're childhood friends. So are you taking on the gym challenge as well?" Norman asked her directly.

"No I'm planning to be a coordinator," May answered.

"That's pretty neat... I assume you are traveling with Ryan?" Norman asked.

"Yes we're going to have a grand time aren't we?" May asked Ryan.

"Yeah we thought it would be safe to travel in a group," Ryan added.

Norman nodded as he knew there was a contest in Rustboro City. He decided to tell Ryan and May what they should do in Rustboro.

"So you guys need some help getting to know Rustboro?" Norman asked.

"Yeah we could use some help," Ryan said.

"All right then. There's a contest being hosted in Rustboro May," Norman said.

"All right then," May said.

"What about gym leaders?" Ryan asked.

"The first gym leader is a rock type specialist. So I would train that Lotad up to take on most of her pokémon," Norman said.

They all finished their food as Ryan sat their listening to his father talk strategy with them.

"So I'm glad you came tonight. Both of you," Norman said.

"Well it's always great to meet friends of my dad," May said.

"I'm glad I came too and I'm glad we patched things up," Ryan said.

Norman nodded as he knew that they shouldn't adventure in the night. He had some spare rooms in his house in the gym.

"You guys can stay here for the night and leave for Petalburg Woods in the morning," Norman suggested.

"Sure dad... I guess I'll get going to sleep," Ryan said.

"Yeah me too," May said.

Norman nodded as he showed them to their rooms. Ryan took a hot shower and went to sleep happy that he could let go his bad feelings towards his dad. He dreamt about his upcoming battle in Rustboro as was determined to win the battle against whoever was in his way.
