Hello and welcome to part four of Pokemon Delta Emerald. I would just like to thank everyone who have been reading this. It's awesome as this is the first story I've put out. Anyways I'm now going to try to post this on Thursdays for personal reasons. Nothing else to say other than enjoy the fourth chapter!
Ryan woke up as he was ready for his fight with Roxanne. He got in the shower and brushed his teeth before getting dressed in his typical black and red athletic wear. May was already dressed as she woke up early to prepare a strategy for her contest tonight.
"You nervous?" May asked.
"To be real... yeah I'm worried," Ryan said.
"Well don't be you should be able to win this fight," May said.
Ryan nodded as they walked out into the pokémon center. Ryan grabbed his pokémon who were fully healed. May and Ryan walked out into the busy streets of Rustboro as they walked into the house next door.
"Why are we stopping here?" May asked.
"Oh this guy in the house has an HM for me," Ryan asked.
"Who told you that?" May asked.
"Oh I ran into Scott while I was training yesterday," Ryan explained.
"That's weird isn't?" May asked.
"Yeah but I think he's going town to town looking for strong trainers," Ryan answered.
May thought this answer made sense as she thought the man was an odd fellow who had some reason to find powerful trainers. They walked into the house as he looked up from his desk. Ryan saw the old pictures of the evolution of Rustboro City. May thought it was cool as she looked at the photos.
"Hello young ones what are you here for?" the old man asked.
"I heard you were the one that had the HM cut?" Ryan asked.
"Ah yes... I remember back in the old days I helped built this city to where it is now. This HM proved very useful for chopping the trees down to build this small city," the old man dragged on.
"Interesting," Ryan said.
"That's pretty cool that you built this town," May said.
"Well thank you. My friends have all but gone from old age but it's nice talking to young kids like you. Are you taking on the gym leader boy?" the old man asked Ryan.
"You betcha," Ryan said enthusiastically.
"That's great I hope it works out for you," the old man said.
"Thank you sir," Ryan said.
"And you young lady what are you going to do?" the old man asked.
"I'm a coordinator," May said.
"Ah you are a pretty girl. You two can do it," the old man stated.
"Thank you so much," May said politely.
"Thank you again sir," Ryan said.
"The pleasure is mine," the old man said.
They shook his hand as they walked out of the house. They proceeded down the street towards the gym as Ryan was getting nervous all over his body. He knew that his gym battle would be tough as he only had one pokémon that would be effective against Roxanne. May looked at him as he stood in front of the big gym.
"You ready Ryan?" May asked.
"Yeah I'm just savoring the moment," Ryan said.
"Yeah your first gym battle is something you only live once for," May said.
Ryan sighed as he went though the doors and saw Roxanne waiting for him. The gym was covered with various rock formations and boulders. Ryan could tell she loved rocks as he stepped in front of her. Roxanne smiled as she was glad her challenger didn't get cold feet. May went up to the stands as she was excited to watch.
"So glad you can come. You ready?" Roxanne said.
"You betcha!" Ryan said.
The stepped into the middle of the arena as May watched with tense feelings. She hoped that Ryan would find a way to win as he needed to get this badge. Ryan got his poke ball out ready to go as he stared down Roxanne. He needed to win this as he needed to make his father proud. He was going to do it.

Ryan stood a couple yards apart from Roxanne as he held Lotad's poke ball in his hand. Roxanne grabbed her poke ball as she prepared to send out her first monster.
"Geodude go!" Roxanne called out.
"Lotad I choose you!" Ryan called out.
A rock like pokémon with arms and fists came as he pounded his fists together. Lotad was a blue pokémon with a green lily pad on it's head. He cried out as he was ready to serve his trainer. Ryan nodded as he decided to start off hard.
"Lotad use water gun!" Ryan commanded.
"Geodude dodge and use rock tomb!" Roxanne said.
The water sprayed from Lotad's mouth as it barely hit the Geodude. It was super effective as the Geodude was significantly weakened. Roxanne knew that Geodude didn't stand a chance as it was four times weak to Lotad. Some of the rocks Geodude managed to get out hit Lotad as it cried in pain.
"Geodude use rock tomb!" Roxanne ordered as a last ditch effort.
"I gotcha! Lotad dodge and use mega drain!" Ryan directed.
Lotad dodge the rocks as he sapped the remaining health from the Geodude. The Geodude went down and fell to the knocked out. Lotad regained all his health as Ryan's strategy was going they way he wanted. Roxanne knew this would be a tough fight if she didn't knock that Lotad out.
"You did a good job Geodude. Go Geodude!" she said sending out her second Geodude.
Ryan was confused as to why a gym leader would have two of the same pokémon but decided to not question it. Ryan decided to keep Lotad out as he had a four times advantage. Ryan knew that this fight was his if he could knock her second Geodude out.
"Lotad use water gun!" Ryan directed.
Lotad shot his water out of his mouth as it hit the Geodude head on. The Geodude fell back weakened as it was a critical hit. Roxanne grew concerned as she was almost down to her last pokémon.
"Geodude use rock tomb!" Roxanne commanded.
Geodude threw a ton of rocks at Lotad as he took the brunt of the damage. Ryan knew his next move as it would knock this pokémon out.
"Lotad finish off with mega drain!" Ryan ordered.
Lotad sucked the energy out of Geodude as it collapsed on the ground. Roxanne recalled her fallen pokémon giving it good praise before she grabbed her final ball.
"Looks like I'm down to my final pokémon! I won't let you off easily!" Roxanne yelled across the arena.
"I don't expect that at all," Ryan calmly said.
Roxanne nodded as she sent out her last pokémon. It was chunky rock type with a big red nose.
"Nosepass use Block!" Roxanne called out.
"Nosepass created a barrier around it as it was preventing Lotad from being switched out. Ryan thought it was weird that a non damaging move was being used but considered that there was some strategy.
"Lotad use water gun!" Ryan yelled.
Lotad sprayed Nosepass down as it took considerable damage. It was still up and ready to go as Roxanne knew she had to something to win.
"Nosepass use Rock Tomb!" Roxanne said.
"Lotad counter with mega drain!" Ryan ordered quickly.
Lotad was hit by a couple of boulders but was able to successfully pull of the counter as it knocked out the Nosepass. Roxanne called back her defeated pokemon as she went to the celebrating teen. May had ran out their and tackle hugged Ryan as he laughed. Lotad cheered as well. Roxanne went up to them as she wanted to congratulate them. Ryan got up and recalled his Lotad as she handed him the Stone badge. The badge was bronze and shaped in two triangles.
"Congrats and good luck in your travels," Roxanne said.
Ryan nodded as he ran out of the gym cheering with May close behind him. He couldn't wait to tell his mom as he got to the pokémon center.

Ryan made it to the video phone as he called up his mother. May sat by him as she was excited for Ryan. The phone rang as Darla had come up on the screen.
"Mom guess what?" Ryan asked excitedly.
"What Ryan... Are you in Rustboro?" Darla asked.
"Yes and I won my first gym badge!" Ryan shouted in glee.
Darla was truly happy for her son as she knew he was one step closer to accomplishing his dream.
"I'm happy for you Ryan!" Darla celebrated.
"Thanks now we just have to hope May wins tonight," Ryan said.
"Your a coordinator, right?" Darla asked.
"Yes ma'am. I am little nervous to say the least," May said.
"Well I'm sure you'll have fun no matter what," Darla said.
May nodded as she was needed to get ready for the contest as the preliminaries were beginning in two hours.
"I got to get going Mrs. Hoffman. It's been nice talking to you," May said.
"Okay May and good luck on your contest," Darla said.
May nodded as she ran off to get ready for the contest. Ryan stayed on as he wanted to talk with his mom some more.
"So how are you enjoying your travels with May?" Darla asked.
"It's going fine... She helped me patch things with dad," Ryan said.
"Oh really? That's great you patched up with dad."
"Yeah I just wish we could battle because that would have been fun."
Darla nodded as her son was just like her father always itching for a battle. She knew her husband was a notable trainer as he was a gym leader after all.
"You'll get to fight him eventually and when you do I'll be there supporting you," Darla said.
"Thanks mom that means a lot," Ryan said.
"No problem... aw my boy is growing up. I remember when you were a baby," Darla gushed.
"Mom! Stop," Ryan laughed.
They both laughed as Darla loved embarrassing her child. Ryan got a little sad as he remembered his friends in Johto as they were probably on their journeys now.
"Well mom I got to go and help May figure out the contest. I'll make sure to keep you updated on the progress we make," Ryan said.
"Okay honey just be careful," Darla said.
Ryan nodded as he waved goodbye to his mom. He hung the phone up and ran to find May as she came out in a red and black ballroom gown. Her light brown hair was down and curled as Ryan took notice. He was enthralled with her beauty as she didn't look like a tom boy anymore.
"How do I look?" May asked.
"You look great!" Ryan confidently said.
"Thanks but are you sure I'm going to impress the judges?" May asked nervously.
"Don't sweat it May. Now lets get you to the tent outside where they are holding the contest before your late," Ryan said.
May nodded as she followed him out to the grand tent that had been setup in the plaza. Many people were going in the tent to watch the contest as Ryan and May stopped in the back area where the contestants were setting up.
"Well good luck," Ryan said.
"Thanks," May said. May walked into the back flashing her pokédex as she was let in. Ryan walked to the front and bought a ticket and walked into the big tent as he was hoping May would win toady.

May sat in the back room as she prepared her pokémon for the last round of the contest. She had luckily made it into the next round after some pretty lucky moves and was down to the final four. She dressed up her pokémon for the theme of the contest which was cuteness. Whoever won the contest would get an automatic bid into the playoffs where four lucky trainers would face off for the title of contest idol and cement themselves in history. After that the current grand idol, Lisia, would do a one on one round. Cyndi saw her competitor as she scoffed at the fact that she even made it to the finals. She walked over to go make fun of her.
"Well well if it ain't the tomboy. Looks like you spruced yourself up nicely but don't think you'll win," Cyndi laughed.
"Shut it Cyndi," May said.
"Aww what is your boyfriend not here to defend you. He probably isn't even your boyfriend since you look so ugly. Anyways see you later tom boy," Cyndi said as she went to prepare.
May tried to hold back the tears as Cyndi was right. Ryan didn't like her at all. Maybe he did think she was ugly. She shook head no as he thought she was beautiful when she showed him this outfit.
'You're wrong Cyndi. Ryan is just a clueless boy,' she thought to herself.
"All right May are you ready to go on stage?" the producer asked.
May nodded as Cyndi scoffed at the fact they were letting her even perform. May ignored the scoff and went out with a smile on her face as Mudkip was dressed in a cute outfit. It had orange bows and a dress as it flaunted itself like May told on the stage.
"And here we have May Birch and her Mudkip!" the announcer said.
The crowd roared as Ryan cheered loudly from the crowd. He was excited that May had the opportunity to be in the final round.
"Go May!" Ryan called out as he waved.
May saw Ryan as she smiled. Mudkip jumped through various hoops showing off it's talents. Cyndi sighed as she was frustrated that the crowd was going wild for her. May finished as the judges wrote down their score. Cyndi was next with her routine as her Jigglypuff. The rest of the first round went without a hitch as the second round of the finals began as May prepared her Mudkip for the round. She changed Mudkip to have no dress and just her bows.
"All right crowd I'll remind you of our judges. Our special judge chairman of the Devon Corporation, Mr Stone," the announcer called out.
The crowd cheered for the hometown favorite as he was a very influential man in Rustboro and the rest of Hoenn. He was gray haired man with a blue stripped suit and white hat.
"Next we have Mr. Contesta from the contest organization committee," the announcer introduced.
The old man had a red suit and gray hair. Finally the spotlight shined on a turquoise haired older teen. She waved to the crowd as the boys in the crowd threw red roses at her.
"And finally the most beautiful woman in Hoenn we have Lisia the current grand idol of Hoenn!" the announcer roared.
Ryan even knew who this was as he had seen her on television before. May was nervous as she had never even met these people who she idolized for her whole life. She prayed that she would win as she prepared to go out on stage.
#
May shook in her dress as the four contestants lined up on stage ready for the appeal stage of the finals. May knew her Mudkip had to be as cute as possible with the crowd in order to beat her new rival Cyndi.
"All right May show us how cute your mudkip," the announcer said.
May was nervous as she began the contest with Mudkip making water gun into the shape of hearts. Mudkip proceeded to jump through the water hearts as it fell to the ground. Mudkip impressed the crowd as it did flips into the falling water hearts. The judges were very impressed as Cyndi rolled her eyes. Ryan was impressed with the moves that Mudkip was doing as he was knew this had to be a win. May finished her routine as the announcer stepped on the stage. He called for the other two men to do their routines with their respective pokémon. Cyndi was last as she knew her singing Jigglypuff would be the winner.
"And here is the hometown favorite Cyndi Flowers and her beautiful Jigglypuff!" the announcer said.
Cyndi curtsied to the crowd as she grabbed a mic with her Jigglypuff. They began to sing a lullaby as the crowd cheered on. Ryan was worried that she might beat May as he didn't want to see his best friend with a broken heart. The performance's finished as the results were readied to be announced. Lisia came up to the stage to finish with the contest.
"Thanks everyone for coming. Now I'll announce the results to everyone!" Lisia shouted.
The crowd quieted as the fourth place contestant was announced as Santiago, A young boy with a Beautifly grabbed his fourth place ribbon. Third place went to a Victor who had a Pichu. The drum roll played as they were about to announce a winner. May was nervous as she sweated bullets. Cyndi stuck her tongue out at her as she tried to make fun of her. May focused on the results as Lisia got up on stage and opened the envelope.
"And the winner of the Rustboro Cute Contest is... The hometown favorite Cyndi Flowers!" Lisia said.
May held her head down in shame as she accepted the second place ribbon from Lisia who decided to share some words with the rookie coordinator.
"Don't fret I feel you have a great chance of getting to the finals if you keep up your hard work," Lisia whispered to May.
May nodded as she held back the tears and shook hands with her idol. The words were comforting but the loss still stung. Ryan ran down to the backstage as he saw May running to the dressing room. Ryan pushed past security as he ran in and saw May crying.
"May it'll be alright," Ryan said.
"Do you think I'm ugly?" May asked crying.
"Of course not who made you even think that?" Ryan asked.
"Cyndi said you probably think I'm ugly!" May cried.
Cyndi walked as she laughed at the crying May. Ryan turned around as he was very mad about the mean girl.
"You stop being a bully to my best friend! She is the most beautiful girl and way prettier then you. She has beauty on the inside and out!" Ryan yelled at her.
"I don't care what you think. I think the tom boy is out of her place trying to be a coordinator," Cyndi said.
"Well she'll prove you wrong... just watch!" Ryan said as he grabbed May.
They walked out into the streets back to the pokémon center. May hugged her crush as she looked up at him and kissed him. Ryan was surprised as he kissed her back. They separated as Ryan looked into her blue eyes as he felt something he had never felt. She ran back to her room embarrassed as Ryan was left to wonder what the moment was about.
