Chapter 4
New friends and team
It's only been an hour after Jade's initiation ceremony and everybody is having dinner at the canteens, Jade after having a personal tour of the entire beacon by Ozpin himself arrives at the dining hall to have his dinner. The moment Jade stepped into the dining hall, everyone stopped eating and watched him with curiosity or jealousy (for the guys) that Jade was put into a team of four girls. This made Jade incredibly uncomfortable before rushing off to pick up a meal.
"So, you are the new student that just recently joined us." The Dinner lady asked Jade as she observed him closely.
"Yes, I am, I suppose news about me spreads quickly here?" Jade says back to the dinner lady.
"You have no idea boy, now, what can I get you?" She answers back.
"Can I have Fish and Chips? With some fruits along with it?" Jade questions the dinner lady.
"No problem boy, after hearing the rumours about what you did in the initiation, they say you killed a Ursa major by yourself am I right?" the dinner lady confirmed the rumour with him as she prepares his dinner.
"Yep, I can confirm I did kill it myself. Though not before it hit me hard and sent me flying into a tree." The dinner lady chuckles before passing Jade his Fish and Chips with an apple and orange.
"Here you go, enjoy your meal" she says with a smile on her face. "Thank you Miss...?"
"Sophie, Ms Sophie Stone."
After taking his food with him, Jade proceeds to walk around the dining hall for a space to eat, while walking, he hears some students gossiping about him.
"Hey you heard about the new student?" Student no 1 asked his friends.
"Yea, they say he killed two packs of Beowolfs, a Ursa and a major as well." Student no 2 responds back.
"What! How such a lowly animal do that? There's got to be something else we are missing." Student no 3 angrily and arrogantly says back.
"Azure! How many times must I remind you to keep your racist comments to yourself? Student no 4 yelled at Student no 3.
At this point Jade just ignored his comments and continued walking off to find a seat only for a very familiar voice calling him out.
"Jade! Over here, we got a space for you here!" Looking towards where the voice is coming from, he sees team RWBY and team JNPR and with a short smile he begins to walk towards them.
Seeing a spot next to Blake he asked her, "uh, hello, can I sit here?"
Blake, seeing Jade, just says, "Sure." Jade nodded before taking his seat and tried to start a conversation.
"Uh... it's a pleasure to meet you guys, my name is Jade, Jade Grayson, may I know your name?" Jade asked them with hesitation in his voice.
"Oh right, my name is Ruby Rose."
"I'm Weiss Schnee, it's a pleasure… meeting you."
"I'm Yang Xiao Long, sister of Ruby, I have yet to forgive you for cutting my hair though." Yang's eye glowed red for a second causing Jade to laugh nervously.
"Blake Belladonna." She monotony introduced herself.
"Hello I'm Jaune Arc."
"I'm Pyrrha Nikos, it's a pleasure meeting you."
"I'm Lie Ren, and this is-"
"NORA!"
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you guys but I must First of all like to apologize to you guys for our fight against each other a few days ago. I wasn't in a good state of mind." Jade continues on with regret in his voice as he looks towards team RWBY.
"Apologies accepted." Ruby replied instantly which shocked Jade who was not expecting to be forgiven so easily. Jade was about to say something but Yang cut him off."
"Look we all understand why you were so reluctant to join us peacefully that day, the headmaster told us that you had a rough month." Both teams nodded with approval except Weiss.
"I see… Thank you for forgiving me." Jade sighs with relief expression on his face.
"Though you owe me a match for my hair you cut." Yang says loudly enough for Jade to hear.
"Sure right… I'll give you your fight soon. In like a week or two." Jade mumbled back with Yang smirking.
"So did Ozpin tell you where you are sleeping?" Ruby asked Jade.
"Well Ozpin assigned me to sleep in your dorm, despite my protest against it, but yea, I will be sleeping in your room." Jade responded back.
"Why did you want your own room? Won't you want to sleep with four beautiful girls?" Yang asked teasingly.
"Well... I've spent years being alone and stuff so I'm not used to being in a room with people, and sleeping with a team of girls may make people get the wrong idea of me which I do not need more of. I'm used to a solitude lifestyle and not... being surrounded by people." Jade carefully worded his reason while blushing slightly at Yang's teasing.
It was Pyrrha's turn to question, "Jade, I wish to know where you learned to fight like that, back during your initiation, you're fighting style is different from any fighting style I know."
"Hmm... oh, that was mostly self-taught, I did not have the luxury to get a trainer. Surviving in the wilds is all that mattered at that time." Jade says the last part with a hint of sadness and anger.
"What happened?" Ruby asked.
"It's a painful topic to ask me about, a lot has happened during that time that I wish to forget." Jade's expression darkened when Ruby questioned him and his body posture changed as well.
"Oh… I'm sorry."
"Don't be, the past is the past. Yet if it wasn't for it, I wouldn't have grown to survive after 'that' incident." Jade's tone becomes even more uncomfortable. Realising that Jade is getting incredibly uncomfortable talking about his past, Ruby tried to change the conversation.
"Oh, I have an idea! Can you tell us about your weapons?"
"You mean Thorn and Lumina? Sure thing." His expression did a 180 at the mention of his weapons.
"Those two I made myself with some help! Custom made hand cannons that can turn into swords or combine into a sniper rifle."
"Wow Ruby, he's a lot like you in terms of gun nuts." Yang teased her sister.
"wait who helped you?" Ruby questioned Jade while ignoring Yang's teasing.
"Just someone in the undergrounds of mistral." jade vaguely answers Ruby's question.
"Hand Cannons? Aren't those quite heavy and usually very difficult to us single handed?" Surprisingly, Blake was the one who asked as she put her book down.
"Well yea they would be normally but, I used a mixture of light and strong alloys to make it lighter, it's also wieldy due to the modifications I made it over the years to make it wieldier for me." Jade continued.
"Then how do you make your weapon have three forms?" Jaune asked.
"I'll admit, getting it to work broke Lumina more than I am willing to say but it took a lot of trial and error when I'm not working on a job. So, yea, after months of working on it, I made it possible."
"What about your semblance? I have never seen anything like it." This time, Weiss asked.
"My Semblance? Well, I believe it's one of a kind and it's complicated and I don't even know the extent of it. But I called it 'Blood Veil'."
"Blood... Veil?" Ruby questioned.
"I give an example, the clothing I'm wearing, it's technically my semblance in use. I can also use it as a weapon like the tendrils that you guys have seen me used in my initiation, and I'm sure you guys experienced it first-hand." Jade nervously looked at team RWBY.
"What about the mask and your eyes turning red that we occasionally see on you?" Ren asked.
"For that, it is just face Armor but also intimidation against bandit gangs. As for the eyes… I guess it's like a quirk of mine. It seems to happen every time I use my semblance actively."
"What about the Blood part of your semblance?" Blake asked.
"Well... for that part, let's just say I can use my semblance to consume blood from others or myself to speed up my aura regeneration. My aura levels are on average lower than others so yea... it's also the reason why I don't use my semblance actively, it drains me dry rapidly." Jade looks incredibly nervous when answering her question.
"WAIT WHAT!" Weiss cried out.
"So, you're a vampire?" Nora excitedly asked.
"Your aura levels are lower than averaged?"
"How does that work?"
"No I'm not a vampire, yes my aura is lower compared to others for some reason and I have absolutely no idea how that works ok. And I think that's enough questions for now, our food is getting cold." Jade answered the questions given to him before ending it by pointing with his fork at all their uneaten food left on their plates.
Much later…
"Ahh... that's better." Jade muttered before getting up from his seat and heading off without telling his team. But Ruby noticed Jade leaving and called him.
"Jade, where are you going?" she questioned.
"Hmm? Oh. I need to see the headmaster for a while, need to sort out some stuff and get my uniform for tomorrow, don't worry, I'll meet you back in your dorm." Jade reassured Ruby.
"Oh ok see you back in our dorm." She smiled and waved back at Jade who returned back at her.
At the Ozpin's office,
Jade exited the elevator to see Ozpin with his mug of hot chocolate while reading something. "Headmaster Ozpin." Jade called him out.
"Ah, Mr Grayson you have arrived." Ozpin greeted back.
"Meeting pleasures aside, I hope to talk to you about something." Jade going straight to the point.
"And what do you want to talk about?"
"First of all, do you have my uniform for class tomorrow, secondly, I need some books related to what the classes tomorrow are teaching. And lastly I need a bed in RWBY's dorm so I can sleep." Jade raised his fingers to count down what he needs.
"Yes Mr Grayson, all your requests are already sent to RWBY's dorm as soon as your initiation ended hours ago."
"I see then, before I go." Jade looked outside the window before looking back at Ozpin with a glare.
"I don't know what you are hiding, but pray to hell that whatever you are hiding is worth the risk of keeping a secret sir." Jade stared into Ozpin's eyes before turning off towards the elevator before saying his goodbyes.
"Take care. Headmaster." he back waved to Ozpin as he walked towards the elevator.
As Ozpin watched the elevator closed with Jade inside, after a pregnant pause, he proceeded to call Glynda,
"Miss Goodwitch, could you please keep an eye on Mr Grayson from now on, I have a feeling this is going to get more interesting with him in Beacon."
"Of course sir, what should I keep an eye on him for?" Glynda questioned back on Ozpin's request.
Jade proceeds to walk back to the Dorm rooms after his meeting with headmaster Ozpin, his thoughts wondering as he walks down the hallway. "What are you hiding Ozpin… whatever it is there better be a good reason for keeping it hidden or there will be trouble."
With him not paying attention, he bumped into a familiar rabbit-eared Huntress and both of them fell to the floor. "Oh dear, I'm sorry I walked into you are you alright? Jade proceeded to extend his hand out to Velvet.
"Oh no the fault is mine… I was not paying attention." Velvet meekly responds back.
"Are you the new student that joined us?" Velvet realised who she was talking to.
"Yes I am, I guess the rumours of me reached you?"
"Yea... everyone heard about the new student that slayed a Ursa major by himself and him being a fifth member of team RWBY."
"Well my name is Jade Grayson and you are?"
"Velvet Scarlatina." Both shake each other's hands before making their departure.
"Well, it's a pleasure meeting you Miss Scarlatina but I need to get back to my team's dorm."
"Sure, we will see each other soon I guess…" Both continued on their way to their respective ways while Jade's mind continued to wonder.
"Wow… things really spread around here quickly huh? She looked slightly older than me, I guess she was my senior? No matter, now where is that damn dorm room? feels like I'm been walking for a while." Jade continues walking through the hallways until he stumbled across the door that has a sign that reads, 'RWBY'
"Ah there it is." Jade mumbled before knocking on the door.
"Who there?" Ruby called out though the door.
"It's me!" Jade yelled back.
Jade hears footsteps noises creeping towards the door before it opens revealing Ruby who was in her pyjamas. When Jade walked into RWBY's dorm room he was flabbergasted. There were two bunk beds held together with books, ropes and tapes, Blake can be seen on her bed reading a book, Yang on the other hand was scrolling through her scroll and there's someone else in the dorm toilet showering most likely Weiss is in there.
"That does not look safe... " Jade's voice reeks of worry and confusion when he sees team RWBY's handmade bunks
"Eh don't worry about it, it still works, by the way what did you talk to Ozpin about?" Ruby nonchalantly dismisses Jade's worry.
"Hmm? Oh, just some details like where's my bed or uniform, that kind of stuff."
"Really that all?" Yang butted into the conversation."
"Yes, unless you were expecting me to accuse the Headmaster of hiding secrets or what not." Jade snarked at Yang.
"Please tell me you are kidding." Blake put her book down to join in.
"I am, besides that's a really bad idea anyways. Not like I did it already." Jade continued on before mumbling the last part to himself. Blake raised an eyebrow when she heard what Jade mumbles about but chose to keep quiet while the others did not hear Jade's confession.
"By the way, where's my uniform, books and my bed?" Jade asked a query to the girls.
"Oh, you bed is a futon, it's in the closet we left for you, your uniform is on the table as well as your books." Ruby answered his question and pointed at the closet and table.
"Thank you." Jade walked towards the table and inspected his uniform. His uniform is made up of a black suit lined with gold, accompanied by a blue vest and a white shirt with a red tie. After inspecting his uniform, metallic ribbons extend from underneath his overcoat's sleeves and wrapped around his uniform. This did not go unnoticed by Ruby who came behind him with curiosity in her eyes.
"Jade? What are you doing?" Ruby questioned Jade with curiosity in her eyes.
"Hmm? Oh, I'm just assimilating the uniform into my semblance."
"Assimi-what?" Yang butted in again.
"Assimilation. I can copy a clothing so that I can change it at will but, my semblance needs to consume said clothing."
"Wow that's so cool!" Ruby cheered beside him. Jade closes his eyes as the metallic ribbons begin to tighten around the uniform before it retracted back into his sleeves leaving no uniform behind, much to the awe of Ruby and Yang, Blake was too busy reading her 'book'.
"Jade, can we see it at work? Pleasepleaseplease!" Ruby pleaded Jade to see his semblance at work.
"Sure thing I suppose." Jade shrugged before letting his semblance work. Jade's body begins to get wrapped with the very same metallic ribbons which even earned the eyes of Blake on him as she did a double take, in a second or two, the ribbons seem to reform into his Uniform.
"That's so amazing! You never have to wash them right?"
"No" Jade answered her flatly before continuing on.
"Every time I change clothing, a new one seems to be clean even if I was covered head to toe in mud or some other nonsense before I changed." Jade flatly stated.
"That is quite a handy semblance, the ability to change at will would save a lot of time and resources to wash it and the ability to fight with it." Blake complemented Jade who blushed in return.
"What's going on out there?" Weiss yelled as she left the toilet in her pyjamas.
"Ah, Weiss Schnee was it? I was wondering where you were going to leave the toilet, I still need to use it, yes?"
"I would allow you to use it BUT, since you are staying in our dorm, we need to set some ground rules first. First, when we are changing you have to wait outside and that means no peeking. Second, ladies get to use the toilet first unless all of us do no need to use the bathroom and lastly, Keep your stuff to yourself."
"Seems fair enough, ("by your standards and totally does not serve a useful purpose.") I agree, now can I use the toilet?" Jade asks with a deadpanned look on his face.
"Good, go ahead." Weiss says as she lies on her bed.
Jade walked into the toilet with a towel can closed the door followed by the sound of him showering, at the same time Weiss just realised he did not take any clothing into the toilet with him.
"Did he just walk into the toilet without any pyjamas?"
"Yes he did." Blake stated to Weiss.
"Did he plan to walk outside the toilet Naked!" Weiss sounds panicked at the though of a nude Jade leaving the bathroom.
"Weiss calm down, his semblance allows him to change clothes at will so he probably has pyjamas with him" Ruby tried to calm Weiss down.
"Wait, when did he tell you that?" Weiss asked quizzingly at her teammates.
"About a couple of minutes ago." Yang added in.
"Are you kidding me?" Weiss sounds exasperated at the information.
"Nope." Yang replied back.
A couple of minutes later, Jade emerged from the toilet with a dark green T-shirt and grey shorts. His body is toned and have small scars all over it, and his left shoulder shows a nasty burned scar that looks like someone threw a fireball at his arm.
Yang whistled before commenting," Someone working out."
Jade chuckled and crossed his arms before deciding to humour Yang, he responds back. "Well what do you know, I still look good enough that girls still like my body."
"Oh I'm sure that you can do better than that handsome." Yang wishing to see how far she can test Jade and get away with it continued with her flirting.
"Would you like a demonstration of it?" Jade challenged Yang back with a smirk on his face.
"Oh will you cut it out both of you! We are all here you know!" Getting sick of Jade's and Yang's flirting, Weiss yelled at both of them while Ruby was doing homework while Blake ignored the flirting while continuing reading her 'Book'.
"Ok ok I'll stop Weiss, besides, I have no idea what's going to happen tomorrow but that can be addressed in the morning and I tired."
"Party-pooper." Yang muttered.
Jade took out his futon from his bed before laying it between the bunk beds and lay on it. Before he fell asleep Blake called and questioned him.
"Jade, what happen to your shoulder?"
"Hmm? that... was from a potential employer." Jade answers back with a pregnant pause.
"Potential?" Blake asked back as she prepares to sleep.
"That employer didn't like the fact that I rejected her offer for working with her. She gave me the feeling of malus coming from her." Jade paused before continuing on. "Tried to have me killed for not working with her plans." He shuttered as that scene was replayed in his head again.
And with that, Blake now satisfied her curiosity went to sleep.
And there's chapter 4 done, Next chapter will include class stuff and the fight between Jade and Yang (again). And yes, My OC's Semblance is based upon Code Vein's Blood Veil Singer variant.
