Sorry about the wait I have been EXTREMELY busy but I found time to get 2 chapters of this story done. I am working on others as well and they'll hopefully be up soon
Chapter 13: Nightlight
When I finally managed to crack my eyes open, I came face to face with my mother. As soon as she saw my eyes open, she threw her arms around me.
"Oh my gosh, Snow, are you alright, sweetie?" she asked.
"Casey, let our girl breathe." Dad said, putting a hand on Mom's shoulder.
Mom, reluctantly, released her hold on me and I gasped as breathing finally became easier.
As Mom helped me sit up, I took in exactly where I was. I was back at the Pole, in Uncle North's infirmary to be exact. I looked at Mom and Dad. Thankfully they didn't look worse than I'd last seen them. On the other hand, they didn't look better either. Although I did see that Dad's hair was nearly completely light brown and Mom's was almost dark brown. They're eyes were almost completely brown and green respectively.
"You guys are almost human." I said quietly. Mom and Dad looked at each other, then back at me, nodding sadly.
"Unfortunately, yes, sweetheart," Dad said softly. "And along with that, your mother can barely control any water particles and I can't even summon the Wind."
"Snow?" I turned and saw Blaze walking to my bed. He had my staff in his hands. "I found this in the snow in Alaska and brought it back for you."
For once, I actually couldn't muster a glare at him for this kind gesture. Wait, was I actually starting to forgive this guy? No way! I internally shook myself and looked up at Blaze. "Humph! You sure as heck are determined." I snapped. Blaze grinned.
"I try." He said, shrugging nonchalantly.
I sighed and slowly sat up. My left arm was encased in a hard cast and held up by a sling that wrapped around my neck. I sighed and looked up my mother. She was looking at me with so much concern that at the moment she didn't look so weak. Then again, my mom and my dad had never been one for showing others how they really felt, a consequence of being left alone for so long.
"So," I said to Mom. "How long am I stuck here?"
"Not too long." Mom said. "North says that once you've eaten something, you're free to go so long as you don't do anything to hurt your arm further."
"North said that your arm had been snapped completely in two." Dad said. "You were lucky that we got there when we did. Angel could've hurt you even more."
I sighed and laid back on my pillows as my mother held my good hand in hers and my dad sat on my left and squeezed my shoulder.
Once I had eaten something, Uncle North finally let me leave the infirmary. I came to find out that Dusty blamed what happened in Antarctica on herself. Of course, I tried to dissuade her assumption, but it wasn't until some words from Aunt Song, that she stopped blaming herself for what had happened.
For now, until my left arm healed, would have to carry my staff in my right hand, which was my off hand. I'm a natural lefty, like my mom so I was already having trouble using my staff in my right hand instead of my left. But Dad was showing me how, since he was right-handed.
A day or two after I was freed from the infirmary, I was walking down the hall, when I heard my dad's voice.
"We have to tell her sometime." Dad said.
Mom spoke, but she sounded nervous, which didn't sound like her usual self to me. "I know, but with the whole Angel thing and with her about to become a Guardian, maybe we should wait."
I raised an eyebrow. 'Wait? Wait for what?' Unfortunately, I never found out, cause not long after my mom said that, I heard Uncle North call for all of us. (And I mean ALL of us.)
When I got to the globe room, I saw a boy, who physically looked about Dad's age. He looked a lot like Dad too. Pale skin, lanky body structure, white hair. He even carried a staff, but this one had a sharp, pointed diamond at the end. This kid was also dressed in black armor and clothing.
"This," Uncle North started. "is Nightlight. He was Manny's guardian when Manny was just small child."
"He also helped us beat Pitch around the first time a long, long time ago." Uncle Bunny continued.
"Sounds really cool." Aurora said. Dusty and I nodded in agreement.
"So he's pretty strong." Blaze said, smirking.
"He sounds like he's just what we need to fight Angel Moon." Aunt Song said.
"I agree." Mom said.
Uncle Sandy floated over to Dusty and put a hand on her shoulder. He started making pictures in the air with his sand, but I couldn't understand them very well. Dusty seemed to understand though, as she nodded in response.
Luna, who i had just seen had returned, stepped forward, a slight glare on her face. "He's also one of my father's strongest soldiers and his closest advisor. My father sent him. He said i could stay, but Nightlight had to come too, to keep me out of trouble.
I grinned. I was liking this guy more and more. "So now we actually stand some kind of chance against Angel Moon."
"Certainly seems that way. Aurora said, smirking.
I looked around at everyone in the room, the seasonals, Aurora, Dusty and the still weakening Guardians. "So what now?"
"We need to get you kids ready to face Angel Moon." Uncle Bunny said. "Obviously, Dusty and Snow, you two have had a taste of what Angel is capable of." I frowned and glanced down at my arm in the sling.
"But we think you still have chance to beat her." Uncle North finished.
"You just need to toughen up." Aunt Tooth said. All the other Guardians nodded and stood.
"We'll split you into pairs to practice battle against in order to gauge how strong you are already."
"Here's who's pairing with who: Aurora will pair up with Taylor. Dusty, you're with Solar. Cloud, you're with Luna, Saige, we're pairing you up with Nightlight." Oh no. That only left two of us to pair up. Narain looked at me, smirking lightly. "Snow, you'll be paired with Blaze." I groaned loudly.
"You have got to be kidding me!" I screamed. "I would rather battle Angel again and break another bone than pair up with Blaze!"
Mom smiled softly as she and Dad walked over to me. Mom knelt down to my eye level, still smiling. "Snow, you need to be paired with Blaze. He has the necessary power to push you to your limits. He's your elemental opposite."
"Not only that," Dad began. "But you need to confront him and face what you claim he's done."
"He abandoned Mom!" I yelled. "You expect me to forgive him just because he said that it was what Manny wanted!? That's crud and you know it!" I furiously wiped away tears that threatened to spill from my eyes. Mom wrapped her arms around me, running her fingers through my hair.
"We don't expect you to forgive him right now." She said. "We just want you to give him a chance."
"Can you do that for us, Little Snowflake?" Dad asked.
I sniffed and pulled away from Mom, rubbing my eyes clear of any tears. "Fine. I'll try and give him a chance." And I meant it too.
So what do you guys think? Chapter 14 will be up here in a minute but let me know what you guys think.
