Chapter 14: Blaze's Center Discovered

Training with Blaze wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. He really pushed me to my limits, both natural and unnatural. That wasn't to say that I didn't push him to his own.

Later, as I stood in my room that I shared with Mom and Dad, I heard the sound of footsteps. Turning around, I saw Blaze enter the room. He grinned slightly at me, but I turned away, focusing solely on my staff. I heard Blaze sigh. "How long do you plan to ignore me?" Blaze asked. I said nothing. "What's it going to take for you to like me, cuz?" I snorted and turned away further, determined not say anything to him. Nothing he said was going to make me forgive him for abandoning my mother when he knew she needed him.

Manny's moonlight seemed to shine down through the window, engulfing me and Blaze entirely. It was as if Manny was begging me to forgive Blaze, but I was not going to listen.

"Snow, I'm really sorry I never talked to Aunt Casey." Blaze said. "It honestly tore me apart on the inside to not be able to tell her that she wasn't alone. But I had no choice but to do it. If I had talked to Aunt Casey before the time was right, she would have never found the courage to take Pitch on. That's why neither Narain nor Manny ever told Casey I was there. They knew what was at stake."

My heterochromatic eyes widened at Blaze's words and I decided to speak to him. "You're telling me the truth?" I asked. "You're honestly telling me that Pitch could've won that battle 14 years ago if Mom knew about you before she was supposed to?" I looked back at Blaze.

He nodded slowly. "I swear I'm telling the truth. Like I said, it tore me apart watching Aunt Casey, but never being able to reveal myself. Sure, I'd been in a few scuffles with your father, Jack, but I never revealed who I was to him and I never revealed myself to her at all. If I could've, I would've, after I was chosen and Manny told me my aunt was the water spirit, gone straight to her and told her everything. But Manny told me Aunt Casey had to find these things out for herself."

"But what does Narain have to do with this?"

"She met me one day when I was flying over the forest after I'd been observing Aunt Casey. Somehow, she already knew who I was, but me and Manny convinced her not to say anything."

I thought for a moment. "You swear you're telling me the truth?" Blaze nodded firmly.

"I've been determined to get you to like me since the moment we met." he explained. "But I swear I am not lying to you. I would never lie to you."

I sighed, smiled, and, for the first time since I'd met Blaze, I looked him straight in the eyes. "You know what? I believe you." And, though I knew it'd cause me a bit of pain, I ran up to Blaze and hugged him around the abdomen, ignoring the searing pain the heat he was emanating was causing me. Blaze hugged me back.

When I looked at him, he smiled at me, but then his eyes widened, a deep breath grasping him as he went rigid and released me. I backed away.
"Blaze?" I started. "Are you okay?"

A few seconds passed and Blaze relaxed. He looked at me, smiling. "I'm fine. I just figured out my center is all."

"You did?"

"Yes and I owe it to you, little cousin." Blaze smiled widely.

"Me? How?"

"Because you so adamantly refused to acknowledge me as family because of what you believed I was guilty of, I grew so determined to get you to love me as the cousins we are. Now that you have put your negative thoughts about me behind you and acknowledged me as your cousin, you helped me discover my center: determination. That is what I'm destined to protect in children."

I smiled widely, one that rivaled my dad's biggest smile after he'd had an epic snowball fight with his believers. "Glad I could help."

"Guys," Aurora said as she and Dusty appeared in the doorway. "Angel's making her move."

"We have to go. NOW!." Dusty exclaimed.

Blaze and I looked at each other and, with a smirk from me, we followed Aurora and Dusty back to the globe room.

How was this? What did you guys think about Blaze's discovery of his center? My brother, Blaze's creator, couldn't wait for this. Sorry it's shorter then the last one but there wasn't that much I could do for the discovery of Blaze's center
