So, it's been months since I last updated this story, very sorry so much work to do! Try to do better in future :)
Hope you like it :)
…
Misty refused to open her eyes, keeping them clenched shut as she tried to postpone the inevitable. She knew once she opened them she could no longer pretend it was all a dream, that she hadn't lost her control last night with Gary.
Last night had been a mistake, she'd been upset about Ash and let it get the better of her. She yearned for someone to touch, someone to take away the pain and Gary had been waiting there willingly.
Her mind was assaulted with the words that had been shared last night, flowing freely from their drunk lips. Subtle truths hidden behind the desire that had overwhelmed them.
As gently as she could Misty turned to face Gary, his beautiful face still relaxed with sleep, those piercing eyes hidden behind his soft eyelids.
Taking the sheet with her she slowly got out the bed, wrapping the white cloth around herself in a make shift dress. She felt her blood turn cold when she heard Gary groan at the cold, afraid he'd wake up before she'd made her escape.
"Running off so soon Red?" He asked, yawning as he sat up in bed.
"I thought it would be for the best." She responded, nervously turning back towards him. Biting her lip as his naked form stretched on the bed.
"And why's that?" He moaned as his back clicked.
"Let's be serious for a second." She said, reaching down for a discarded pillow and throwing it at him. "And for the love of god cover yourself up!"
"What's up your ass?" He rolled his eyes, sitting up on his knees and placing the pillow on his lap.
"We got too drunk last night and… well you know." She blushed, the memories flooding through her.
"Yeah, I know." He sighed. Of course everything she'd said last night had been complete and utter bullshit, he'd been a fool for letting himself believe her.
"Gary, I'm sorry." She muttered, remembering everything that had been confessed between them last night.
"For what?" He crossed his arms, not wanting her sympathy, making him out to be a pathetic heartbroken mess.
"For what I said to you in the heat of the moment, for what you said to me." She glanced down to her feet. "I shouldn't have pressured you, after what you told me."
"Don't flatter yourself Waterflower." He laughed bitterly. "It was all an act."
"What?" She flared, eyes flicking back to his.
"Yeah, just a line." He lied, mentally closing off his heart again, realising it only bought him pain. "You're not the first girl to fall for it and no doubt you won't be the last."
"Are you being serious right now?" She questioned, arms crossing over her chest.
"Course. 'We're drunk and I can't ruin things between us. You mean too much to me.' Come on Mist, don't tell me you bought that crap." He laughed, trying to play the whole thing off.
"Why the fuck would you lie to me?" She shouted.
"Because you're sexy as hell and practically handed to me on a plate, I wasn't about to give that up." He shrugged, trying to appear casual.
"But I was already up for it, you didn't need to bullshit me! I'm not one of those airheads who needs fake promises to make themselves feel special." She growled, her own walls rising just as quickly as Gary's did.
"Why are you so bothered by this? You said things to get your way just like I did, we're both adults here. Take responsibility."
"It doesn't work that way. You can't just feed women lies to suit your needs." She screeched, annoyed with herself that she'd believed Gary's spiel, she should have known better.
"But it's fine if you'd been leading me on?" He asked, her words still spinning around his head, wishing they could be real.
"Well clearly I wasn't, you didn't feel a thing between besides lust." She said, turning her head away in anger.
"Neither did you! Did you?" He questioned, his voice softer again.
Misty eyes widened at the question, a slight blush falling across her cheeks. Had she meant what she'd said last night? She couldn't honestly say. Her heart and head where all over the place it was difficult to decipher what they wanted.
"I…" She began but was thankful for a loud knock at the door, cutting her off. "It's open!"
She let out a sigh of relief as the door clicked open, but it was short lived as the familiar boyish smile of Ash Ketchum entered the room.
"Hey, do you…" He trailed off, eyes drawn quickly to Misty stood to his right in a practically see-through sheet.
"Ash." Gary growled, bringing his focus back towards him.
"Right, sorry." He blushed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Do you know what happened to my wallet? Vaguely remember someone taking it from me at the stag."
"I think Drew nicked it to buy some drinks, I'd check him." Gary hinted, hoping to get rid of the unwanted extra in the room.
"Right, Drew. Thanks." He smiled slightly, giving Misty one last look before backing out the room.
Once he'd gone Misty quickly threw the sheet off herself and over Gary, taking his momentary shock to pull her underwear.
"What are you doing?" Gary asked, pulling the sheet free from his head.
"I'm leaving." She curtly replied, grabbing her dress off the floor.
"You never answered my question." He stated, crawling to the end of the bed in a mess of covers.
"And I never will." She said, grabbing her shoes and bag from last night and quickly departed from his room.
"Wait!" He shouted but it was no use, the door was roughly slammed behind her and she was soon powering down the corridor.
She clenched her fists tightly as she left, he'd lied to her. She'd believed for a moment that she was special to him but she was nothing more than a notch in his belt. She felt stupid for believing him, she knew better than to fall for men's lies, least she thought she did. Nothing ever works for her, her life is one big disappointment after another, it was about time she realised that.
…
When Misty neared her room, ready to throw herself into her bed and never surface again, she froze. A figure sat slumped in front of her door, nervously playing with their fingers as they starred at the peeling wallpaper in front of them.
"Hey Ash." She quietly said, curling her legs and sitting down next to him.
"Hey." He replied, letting his hands drop between his legs. "What are you doing here?"
"It's my room." She laughed, gently nudging his shoulder. "What are you doing here?"
"I don't know, waiting for you I think." He shrugged.
"You think?" She questioned, shooting him a sideways glance.
"I was just walking around and then I ended up here." He explained, eyes never the wall opposite.
"Alright, what's wrong?" She asked, forcing his face up to meet her gaze.
"Why do you think something's wrong?" He chuckled, eyes staring anywhere but at her.
"Because whenever you act this strange there's always something on your mind." She said, reminding him she knew all of his little mannerisms. "So, what is it?"
He sighed slightly at her question, letting his head drop down to stare at the floor, not wanting to see her reaction to his confession.
"It's you and Gary. Something about you being together drives me insane."
"You and me both." She muttered.
"Then why are you with him?" He asked quietly.
"Because it's a good kind of insane. He makes me crazy but at the same time he's like a drug I can't quit." She admitted, berating herself when she realised she'd never be able to tell Gary.
The pair sat in silence for a while, the weight of Misty's words pressing down on them both, neither one fully sure how to process them.
"Do you ever wonder what would happen if we'd never broke up?" Ash asked, finally breaking the silence.
"Sometimes." Misty smiled slightly, allowing herself to relax slightly in his company, now that Gary was no longer a topic of the conversation.
"We'd probably be married by now." He said, meeting her eye for the first time.
"Have a couple of little ankle biters running around." She giggled, imaging the challenging children she and Ash would have produced together.
"We'd be absolutely knackered but completely happy." Ash smiled, thinking of what they're lives could have been.
"Yeah. That, or one of us would have killed the other." She stated, causing Ash to laugh out loudly.
"Somehow, I think that's a more likely scenario." He shook his head slightly, remembering their fiery fights, they broke their share of plates in the past.
"You drove me insane Ketchum."
"A good kind of insane?" He asked, offering her his best puppy expression.
"Yeah, the best." She smirked. "Dawn's lucky to have you."
She gently reached over to his hands and offered him a quick squeeze in reassurance.
"Thanks." He said, allowing himself to enjoy her warmth for a moment. "I should be getting back to her."
He slowly moved his hands away from her grip and stood tall. He reached out his hand and gently pulled Misty up until she was stood too.
"I'll see you at the wedding." He smiled widely, Brock's happiness entering both their minds.
"Yeah, you will." She said, giving him a quick smile before he turned on his heel and walked away. Misty watching his retreating form until he was no longer visible.
…
May groaned as the sound of knocking filled her room, her hangover from last night causing her head to pound. She smiled slightly in relief when she noticed her husband heading towards the door, saving her from having to leave the bed.
"Someone's wearing the same clothes they had on last night." He mocked.
"Shut up." Misty growled back, flouncing into the room and climbing into bed beside May.
"Hey." May said in a quiet voice.
"Hey." Misty responded.
"So where did you go last night?" Drew asked curiously, sitting at the bottom of the bed and eyeing up the two girls.
"Gary's room." She muttered.
"And…?" May prompted.
"And we…" Misty groaned instead of finishing her sentence before pulling the sheet over her head in shame.
"Misty?" May asked, trying to move the sheet back. "Did you?"
Misty looked up at her with wide eyes before nodding slightly, quickly pulling the sheet back on top of her.
"Oh my god!" May screeched, momentarily forgetting her headache in her excitement.
"You cheeky little minx." Drew laughed, whipping the cover off the blushing girl.
"So what's going on with you two now?" May asked, smile wide on her face.
"Nothing." The other girl moaned.
"What do you mean nothing?" She questioned, her smile quickly being replaced with a frown.
"Because it was just a drunk mistake, it didn't mean anything." She shrugged, acting as if that mere statement didn't upset her.
"Seriously? You can practically cut the sexual tension between the two of you with a knife." Drew commented, shaking his head.
"Exactly, that was all it was. Sexual tension. We've had our release now and there's nothing more between us." She said, hands reaching for the sheet but burying her head into the pillow instead when she found Drew's hold stood strong.
"That's bullshit!" May exclaimed.
"That's life." Misty retorted dryly.
"And is that what you want?" She asked, pulling Misty's head out of the pillow.
"I don't even know anymore, I thought it was but now I'm not sure." Misty groaned. "Why does it have to be so difficult?"
"I know you won't want to talk about it but how do you feel about Ash?" May attentively asked.
"God, I don't know!" She cried, frustrated by her own temperamental heart.
"If you're not ready to move on from Ash then let Gary go, you'll just end up hurting him." Drew commented, barely glancing up from the sheet on the lap.
Both girls turning to look at him in surprise, a rarity for him to offer something insightful rather than a joke or gentle teasing.
"He's right." May said, looking slightly impressed with her husband.
"He is?" Misty asked, not wanting to hear the truth.
"I'm afraid so. Can I give you some advice?" May offered.
"I feel like whatever I respond you'll tell me anyway." She sighed, looking up at the other girl.
"You're probably right." She nodded before continuing. "I think you just need to get through the wedding then cut all ties with both of them. Work on getting you happy again rather than two boys who've been causing you grief since you were ten."
"God, I hate it when you're right." She whined.
"Don't we all?" Drew commented with a smirk. "Hey!" He shouted, his wife shooting him a triumph look after hitting him a pillow.
"I can't help it you two are completely hopeless and I always have to keep you in line." She defended, crossing her arms over her chest like a small child, a pout gracing her lips.
…
Gary lay on his bed, eyes staring into the ceiling, the smell of Misty all over his bedroom. It drove him insane, constantly reminding him of the one thing that he yearned for but could never have.
He needed to get out but knew he had nowhere to go. He was tempted by the bar, drinking until he could no longer think but he knew that he couldn't. Tomorrow was the wedding and as much as he hated his current situation he didn't want to be hung over for the big day.
He turned over to his side and glanced at the courtesy phone on the table, hands itching to reach out for it and call the front desk. But what was he meant to say? He'd fucked a girl last night and now her scent was surrounding him so he needed to change rooms? That was bound to go down well.
With a groan he pushed himself off the bed, pulling the sheet as he did, watching with satisfaction as it pooled at his feet. He then threw the pillows across the room, a soft thump as they hit the wall before dropping to the ground. Finally he yanked the fitted sheet off the mattress, screwing it in his arms before letting it fall to the ground.
He stared at the bare mattress before throwing his body back onto it, shivering slightly as the cold nipped at his skin. But he preferred it to being surrounded by Misty's scent, hooking him further than he already was.
But even without the smell she was all he could think about, the way she'd smiled up at him last night, the way she'd softly kissed him, the way she'd held him close as she'd slept.
Her stunning face was the last thing he saw before he fell asleep.
…
Misty paced her own room, heading towards her door before quickly turning for her bed. The act continued for quite some time, resulting in a slightly dizzy feeling.
"Just stop it!" She scolded herself before dropping onto the bed.
She couldn't go see Gary, no matter how much she wanted to she had to let him go. He'd be better off without her, confusing him before dropping him again as she knew she would.
She forced herself into bed, trying to stop her mind from remembering last night, her thoughts being plagued with Gary's touch.
She stared at the empty space next to her in the bed, wishing it was filled with someone, someone to hold her close, someone to make her feel loved once again. Someone called Gary Oak.
Moving her pillow slightly she cuddled it close to her, gently resting her head on it, imagining it to be more than just fluff and cotton. She imagined it was Gary's strong chest, imagined his warmth surrounding her, keeping her safe, imagined his soft heartbeat thumping as he gently fell to sleep.
Her dreams and fantasies finally lulling her to sleep.
