The entire ride back to the hotel from Bennington, Lacy bitched at Spencer. He heard a few things, but mostly he zoned out, considering his Mom's advice. When they entered their room, a pillow bounced off his head.

"What the …" he trailed off as he looked to Lacy.

"You aren't listening to a damn thing I'm saying," she snapped.

"So, your answer is to throw something at me?" he replied with a furrowed brow.

"Oh, man up. It was a pillow. I'm sure your delicate girl features haven't been bruised any," she said rolling her eyes.

He finally reached his limit. The straw broke the camel's back.

"I'm done," he huffed out.

"Excuse me?" she said glaring at him.

"I'm done with this. With you. I'm so fucking done. When we get home, I want you out," he said.

"And where do you want me to go, Spencer?"

"Doesn't matter. Go sleep in a hole for all I care," he replied.

"Hello, dumb ass," she said pointing to her stomach. "What about your child?"

He sighed.

"Fine, you can stay until we find you a place, but you're sleeping in the guest room."

There was a moment of silence before Lacy started shaking her head back and forth furiously.

"You know what, no, uh uh, no way! You don't get to just toss me to the side now because you don't want the responsibility anymore! You got me pregnant and you are going to deal with that like a man!"

"I will deal with it like a man. When my son is born, I will fight to have him in my custody. I will raise him," he said angrily. "Away from you!"

Lacy started laughing.

"Look at you trying to be a tough guy," she patronized.

"No, I'm just sick of being your doormat. I'm not going to do it anymore," he said.

"You seem to have forgotten your place. Let me remind you how this works. I will do whatever I want, when I want and you will not only cater to me, you will do it with a fucking smile on your stupid, fucking face."

"Not gonna happen," he said eerily calm.

She moved closer to him. The two staring one another down.

"Oh, you will and you wanna know why?" she said in a hushed tone.

He didn't respond. Just kept eye contact with her. Daring her to speak. Daring her to change his mind.

"If you leave me, if you so much as utter one word I don't like, I will end this child's life," she said making the hair on his neck stand up straight.

She gave a satisfied smirk at his reaction.

"You wouldn't," he said with an unsteady voice.

"Oh, I would, and I wouldn't even shed a tear," she grinned.

"What is wrong with you?" he said as she turned away from him.

"I am the queen of this castle and I always get what I want," she said as she went into the bathroom and closed the door.

Spencer collapsed onto the bed. His heart pounding in his chest. His head spinning. He barely reached the trash can nearby as he began vomiting. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he sat broken on the hotel floor. How had he not seen all of this before? How did he end up in a toxic relationship with a psychopath? Some agent he was.

He wasn't sure how long he had sat there before Lacy appeared again.

"I'm hungry. Clean yourself up and let's go get some dinner," she said stopping to fix her hair in the mirror.

"I hate you," he growled as he glared at her from the floor.

"Good for you. Now drag your pathetic ass into the bathroom, make yourself look presentable. I'm walking out that door in 5 minutes and you will be ready to go," she said spinning to face him. "Have I made myself clear."

"Crystal," he said getting up.

"And empty that bag. I don't want it to stink in here," she said turning back to the mirror.

Spencer sat at his desk staring mindlessly at the file in front of him. It was his first day back at work since his horrific trip to Vegas. He couldn't focus for even a second. He looked disheveled. His hair messier than usual. His facial hair unshaved. His tie hung loosely. His shirt untucked.

"Spence."

He snapped out of his daze and looked up to see Emily watching him over the partition. Her eyes were full of concern, but he couldn't even fake being ok to ease her worries. To embarrass himself further, he started to cry. He quickly covered his face and tried to hide the fact. Moments later he felt her gentle touch on his back.

"Come on," she said softly.

He slipped out of his chair with his head down. He had no idea where she was leading him, and he honestly didn't care. Right now, he'd let her lead him right off a cliff. She directed him to a couch and shut the door along with the blinds. He glanced up to see they were in Rossi's office, but he was nowhere to be found.

He buried his face in his hands again as he felt his world crumbling around him. He was trapped in a nightmare worse than any horror story he'd ever read. There was no escaping, and the walls were closing in on him.

A sob escaped him when he felt Emily's hand rub his back. He fell into her arms wanting so desperately to make it all go away. He let out all the angst he had been holding tightly inside as she tried her best to soothe him. There came a point when he had run out of tears. There was nothing left, and he could barely breathe.

"Deep breaths," she whispered. "Breathe with me."

He focused on the feeling of her chest rising and falling. The sound of her heart beating closely to his ear. He took in a shaky breath and tried to mimic her. With her continued encouragements, he was finally able to calm down.

"Thanks," he said as he sat up and wiped at his tears.

"Spence, what is going on? I'm really worried about you," she said.

He cleared his throat and shook his head.

"I'm fine. I just needed to get that out," he lied.

"Why are you letting her do this to you? You deserve so much better," she tried.

"Emily, don't," he said tensing up. His walls quickly rebuilding.

"No, not when my best friend is falling apart in front of me," she argued.

"Oh my God, don't be so dramatic," he said as he stood up and straightened his wardrobe.

"Dramatic? Were you not present for the past 20 minutes? Don't tell me I'm being dramatic," she said angrily.

"I'm having a bad day. That's all. I needed to –"

"Stop it, Spencer! Enough with the lies! These excuses you keep making for Lacy –"

"God Emily! Why can't you just mind your own business? This obsession you have with me is getting annoying!" he hollered.

It probably would've been nicer if he would've just punched her in the face. At least it would've been a temporary wound. But no, he hit her in the heart. He reached into her chest, grabbed her heart, and squeezed until there was no life left in it.

She opened and closed her mouth a few times before shaking her head. She walked over to the door, swung it open and went back to her desk. She gathered her files and made her way to the conference room. Everyone watched in silence.

Spencer stood in Rossi's office completely empty. That was the last piece of him that mattered. If you were to peer inside his body, you would find an empty shell. Spencer Reid was gone.
