Chapter 10: It Returns
It was the mountains outside of Amity Park, overlooking the city.
Nobody was here, so this was perfect.
Now, all that was missing was Demitri Maximoff.
"Where is he? He should already be here by now." Danny questioned.
"Maybe he decided to go somewhere desolate, like the moon." Felicia suggested in a hopeful tone, causing the others to give her deadpanned looks. "A girl can dream."
Jon sniffed the air.
"He's close… very close." Jon said.
It was then Hsien-Ko, pulling her sister-talisman out of view, saw what was hovering above them.
"I got a good idea where…"
They all looked up and saw Demitri above them, cape swirling in the non-existent wind, eyes glowing brightly as fire bats hover around him.
"Dramatic much?" Danny muttered, causing Jon to snort.
"So, this is where you will make your grand attempt to defeat me?" Demitri asked with a scoff as he looked at the future battlefield. "How quaint."
The ghost boy sent him a glare.
"It's enough to take you down."
"Then as you peons say, 'bring it on'." Demitri said as he landed in front of them, his arms spread, as if welcoming them to try.
Danny was about to step forward when a sleeved arm was in front of him.
"Just let me get a clean shot." Danny says.
"I got this…" Hsien-Ko said. She took a step forward, hearing something the other couldn't. "Yeah, I know, I'll just tire him a little." Suddenly, Hsien-Ko's face turned bright red. "Shut up! This and that are completely different!"
"Who is she talking to?" Danny asks.
"Her sister. She's speaking into her mind via that talisman she turns into." Felicia answered.
"Seriously?" Danny asked with wide eyes.
"Does the pitiful excuse of a vampire with the mind of an emotionally immature child think she's a threat to me?" Demitri questioned with a mocking grin.
"Let me show you." She said as she threw her arms forward. "Tenrai Ha!"
Erupting from her sleeves was a heavy weight followed by spike balls that were aimed at Demitri, who started dodging the projectiles.
"Is this all you have?!" Demitri questions.
"Chireitou!" She slammed her arms on the ground, causing blades to pop below Demitri, who quickly jumped out of the way. "Anko Hou!" A battle axe flew towards Demitri's face, which he narrowly dodged, losing only a few strands of hair.
"Uh… where does she put all that?!" Danny asks.
"Her sleeves." Everyone said, not phased.
Hsien-Ko ran forward while Demitri was distracted, as her talisman glowing.
"Rimoukon!"
Danny watched as the area around Hsien-Ko and Demitri was suddenly enveloped by a purple barrier, and another person popped out from her tag. It's Mei-Ling.
"…Your world is strange." Danny said in a deadpanned tone.
"You're half ghost." Jon shot back.
"Touché." Danny said.
He didn't know if Hsien-Ko became faster or Demitri became slower, but Hsien-Ko was hitting Demitri while dodging his attacks. Danny saw the smirk on Hsien-Ko's face as she kicked Demitri in the face.
It made her blue face with red blush stickers somehow prettier.
It made him smile.
"Cool…" He whispered.
Lilith heard him and started pouting. Morrigan saw this and patted her sister on the arm, though there was a teasing smirk on her face.
"Shut up!" Lilith exclaimed.
After punching Demitri for a few more times, the barrier and her sister disappeared, she quickly jumped back to avoid Demitri's sharp nails.
"Our turn!" Morrigan went with Lilith behind her.
"Hey!" Hsien-Ko exclaimed as the two sisters ran past her and attacked Demitri.
"Soul Fist!"
"Soul Flash!"
Demitri used his cape as a shield to block the sisters' attacks. Before he could react, Morrigan was in front of him, her nails sharp. She sent a few swipes at him, which he dodged. Lilith dashed towards him and spun, the wings on her waist turning into blades.
"Merry Turn!"
Demitri narrowly dodged the attack and went to stab Lilith with his hand, but was shocked to see that it was an illusion. The real Lilith appeared behind him and her wing suddenly turned to spears that thrusted at Demitri, pushing him a few feet away.
"How are her wings doing that?" Danny asked as he saw her wings turn into axes.
"It's a succubus thing." Jon replied as they saw Morrigan's wing turn into spears.
"Shining Blade!" Lilith threw her hips, the wings turning into blades that hit Demitri. Seeing that Shining Blade, Danny notices the confident smile on Lilith's face.
"Nice…" Danny said.
Hsien-Ko frowned when she saw Danny looking at Lilith. Suddenly, she blushed and glared at her talisman.
"I'm not changing my outfit!" She exclaimed before crossing her arms in a huff.
As they kept watching, Lilith suddenly rushed towards Demitri and her entire body glowed green.
"Splendor Love!"
Just as she was about to unleash her attack, Hsien-Ko suddenly covered Danny's eyes, confusing him.
"Hey!" He exclaimed in surprise as he tried to push her sleeves off him.
"This is for your own good. That's a move she needs to not use around teenage boys" Hsien-Ko said with a slight growl on her face.
Once the move was done, Hsien-Ko finally pulled back, causing Danny to give her a confused look before he turned back to the fight.
"Grah!" Demitri groaned in annoyance as Morrigan scratched his face. "You little wench!"
When he hit Morrigan, his fist went through her, showing that it was an illusion. Suddenly, his right arm was wrapped by Morrigan's wings.
"Your boyfriend better hurry…" Morrigan says, holding onto Demitri's right arm as tightly as she can. Demitri was about to attack her, but his left arm was restrained by Lilith's wings.
"He's not my boyfriend!" She shouted, blushing hard.
"Not yet~." Morrigan whispered with a smirk before turning to Danny, who didn't hear their conversation. "Yoohoo~! He's open~."
"Got it!"
Danny nodded and flew towards them, charging a Ghost Ray. When he stopped in front of Demitri, Danny fired, releasing a strong Ghost Ray that sent Demitri flying towards a nearby mountain, making craters all over the place. Morrigan and Lilith were blown away from the attack, luckily unharmed.
"Wow, not bad." Morrigan commented as she looked at the damage Danny did. Demitru suddenly crawled out of the hole, slowly recovering. "But I don't think it's enough."
"That actually stung." Demitri growled as he patted the dirt off his shoulder. "But if that's the best you can do, then give up."
Danny smirked as he walked towards him.
''That was just to get you away from them." Danny said before turning his head to look at his friends. "Cover your ears!"
Confused, the Darkstalkers covered their ears as Danny took a deep breath. Demitri, not knowing what to expect, just charged at him, claws out. Just as he was about to reach him, Danny unleashed an inhumane scream that sent Demitri flying. Everyone winced as the unholy sound assaulted them, but the worst off was Demitri, since the attack was aimed at him. He slammed back into the mountain, followed by an avalanche that buried him under.
Danny stopped the attack, panting slightly as he turned human.
"What WAS that?" Jon asks a little loudly, his enhanced hearing affected by the attack.
"The Ghostly Wail… my strongest ability. It drains me… but… it worked." Danny said.
"No wonder you didn't want to do it back there." Felicia commented, her ears ringing a little as they surveyed the damage.
"Hopefully, that took care of him." Hsien-Ko said.
"Think again." Morrigan says as she noticed the pile of rocks moving.
Everyone watched as the pile moved before it exploded. To Danny's horror, Demitri got back up, his injuries healing.
"What?!" Danny went.
"What else you got?" Morrigan asked as they readied themselves.
"That was all I got." Danny said.
Demitri only smirked while Morrigan looked at the ghost boy in disbelief.
"That was your big plan? A sonic attack?!" Morrigan asked incredulously.
"Uh… yeah?" Danny went.
The Aensland sisters shook their heads at this while Jon spoke up.
"Kid, Demitri has fought and killed an alien who is a living sun." Jon explained.
"... what?" Danny said.
"He killed an alien powerful enough to crush stars…" Jon continued.
Danny looked horrified at this.
"Why didn't anyone tell me he's withstood stuff like that?! What kind of vampire even is he?!" Danny exclaimed.
"The last one you'll ever see…" Demitri's voice went behind Danny.
Danny Fenton turned around in time for the lord of vampires to grab him by the neck and hoist him up.
''Gah!" Danny let out as Demitri held a firm grip.
"Hey! Let go of my potential future brother-in-law!" Morrigan snapped.
"Shut up, Morrigan!" Lilith exclaimed with a blush.
"Uh…shouldn't we be helping him?" Jon said, pointing to the boy being strangled by the vampire.
Suddenly. Hsien-Ko rushed towards Demitri, metallic claws appearing from her sleeves. She swiped at Demitri, who blocked it with his other hand. Suddenly, he grabbed her by the sleeves and threw her to the ground. He then raised his foot, intending to stomp her. Danny saw this and growled as he forced himself to transform.
As Demitri was about to stomp her, there was a flash of light. Blinking, he looked down and only saw a crater where his foot was before turning to his other hand, seeing him holding empty air. He growled in annoyance as he turned his head, seeing Danny in his Ghost Form, a surprised Hsien-Ko in his arms. It took her a moment to realize she was in his arms, much to the comical irritation of Lilith.
"So, you still got some fight in you, boy." Demitri said.
"You're one to talk." Danny said with a smirk.
"Uh… thanks." Hsien-ko went with a light blush before realizing the talisman on her face was gone. "Wait… where's my sister?!"
"Sister?" Danny said before he realized that Hsien-Ko's face wasn't covered.
"Looking for this?" Demitri asks as he held the yellow talisman, making Hsien-Ko gasp.
"Put her down!" Hsien-ko demands as she got off Danny.
"I'm wondering how much greater you'd be without your sister instilling your humanity…" Demitri asks in a taunting tone as he waves the tag around. "Let's find out."
"No!" Hsien-Ko exclaimed with wide eyes as Demitri grabbed the tag with two hands, his intentions clear.
Before he could tear the talisman, Danny flew in and kneed him in the face. The impact did nothing.
"Was that supposed to do something?" Demitri asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Uh… something should have happened." Danny said.
"Something WILL happen!" Demitri said before taking one hand and grabbing Danny by the foot, slamming him onto the ground.
Danny gritted his teeth and hissed in pain before seeing Demitri reach to tear Mei-Ling before he thought fast.
He fired from his eyes optic ice blasts that froze his arms to the elbows.
As Demitri snarled to try and break free, Danny got up and phased the talisman out. He then jumped back to Hsien-ko and handed her the talisman who looked relieved at it glowed. Mei-Ling returned to her priestess form and sighed in relief and began to collapse as Hsien-ko caught her sister.
Demitri broke the ice and rushed towards the three of them. Just as he was about to reach them, he was blindsided by a double kick from Jon and Felicia. He growled as he tried to slash at them, but the two quickly jumped away, ready to fight.
"You okay, Sis?" Hsien-ko asks.
"Yeah… I think so…" She responds.
Hsien-ko smiled in relief before giving Danny a grateful nod.
"Thank you, Danny."
Danny nodded and returned the smile.
"Don't mention it, it's what I do, especially for my friends…"
Hsien-Ko looked at Danny, feeling her heart beating and blood rush to her face. She then watched as Danny joined back to the fight, leaving the two sisters alone.
"He called you friend, either you've been friendzoned or it's a sign he's liking you…" Mei-Ling said with a teasing smirk.
"Shut it…" Hsien-ko said, jokingly as opposed to angrily as before.
Demitri kept slashing at Jon and Felicia, who were doing a hit-and-run tactic that was slowly annoying him. Felicia slashed at him before jumping away, letting Jon hit him with a kick. Jon then jumped back to avoid Demitri's claws, letting Felicia slash at him with her claws. The two kept at it, until Demitri finally caught Felicia's kick. He then threw her to Jon, causing the two to stumble to the ground. He then fired a horde of fire bats towards them, causing Jon to shield Felicia with his body, making him howl in pain as he was hit.
"Jon!" Felicia exclaimed.
Morrigan and Lilith were suddenly behind him, intending to strike him down. Before their attacks could hit him, he disappeared and reappeared behind them, a wicked grin on his face. He quickly swatted Lilith away as Morrigan aimed a kick at him, only for it to be caught.
It was now she was realizing something was amiss.
"What's going on? You're not usually this powerful, even at night." She says.
"Did you not consider I've done more than just sit on my throne? I've been getting stronger, training, feasting, preparing for the day I take over the Makai," Demitri responds with a toothy grin.
He then pulled her close until they were almost nose to nose.
"Aww… I'm flattered, but I don't think you've brushed…" Morrigan snarked.
"Don't tell me… this does not excite you, does it?" Demitri asks.
"Normally, I'd be excited… but I really can't let you run around on another world, Demi." Morrigan says before her wings expanded into spears and thrust them to Demitri, who turned into a swarm of bats. He then reappeared behind and stuck her from behind, sending her to the ground.
"A stubborn woman to the bitter end, I see." Demitri said in slight disappointment.
"Morrigan!" Lilith exclaimed before she glared at Demitri. "You'll pay for that!"
She charged at Demitri, throwing a punch, but Demitri grabbed her by the arm and swung her into the ground, making a crater.
"Please, you're not nearly as strong, or lovely, as your sister," Demitri said with a sneer as he lifted her to the air.
"Hands off my sister!" Morrigan shouted.
"If you want her, then finally a-," Demitri was interrupted when he blocked a glowing boot that was aimed at his head. He pushed it back, causing Danny to land a few feet in front of him.
"Put my friend down!" Danny shouted.
"Friend?" Demitri scoffed. "You consider them your friends? Pathetic…"
"And why is that pathetic?" Danny demanded with glowing eyes.
"I will tell you why." Demitri said, spreading his arms. "You surround yourself with low class Darkstalkers… Morrigan is the only one of significance, but she wastes her time wishing to enjoy the presence of others rather than take her rightful place among lowly creatures like yourself. You have a foolish beast girl who wishes for something as ridiculous as peace, a werewolf who tries to reign in his bloodthirsty nature. Then there are the sisters, especially the Jiang Shi that treasures her humanity, clinging onto it like a fool who won't accept reality, a reality where she will be feared for being undead."
Hearing that part struck a nerve with Danny, especially since that description was very close to home for him.
He felt his fists tighten.
"Now you wish to save this… waste of a creation?" Demitri said, waving Lilith around like a ragdoll. "This piece of something that thinks it has any right to live?"
Hearing that caused another girl to flash in his head, one he has a more familial love towards.
"You really love to hear yourself talk, do you?" Danny asked in a quiet voice. "You're starting to annoy me."
"You have annoyed me first, boy… so…" He said, throwing Lilith away, causing Morrigan to fly towards her.
"Lilith!" Morrigan went, catching her in her arms. "Speak to me!"
She tried and failed to wake her up.
"I will kill YOU first!" Demitri shouted.
"Danny!" Hsien-Ko exclaimed in worry as Demitri appeared in front of Danny, throwing a clawed strike towards Danny.
Something happened in that split second. Something odd, yet familiar to Danny as a silver glow appeared around him.
Something calming and powerful.
Once Demitri's fist reached, Danny suddenly disappeared before it made contact, leaving nothing but air for the vampire to strike.
"What?!" He asks, seeing Danny has disappeared. He looked around and saw Danny a few feet beside him. "Little brat!"
Jon's eyes widened as Felicia tried to bandage his wound with a piece of his pants torn off.
"Jon? Are you hurt?!" She asks, not aware of what's going on.
The others were.
"Mmm… Morrigan?" Lilith asks, noticing her sister was staring slack jawed at something. "What is it?" She asks before looking and gasping at it too.
Hsien-Ko, helping her sister stand, saw it too.
"Sis… look…" She said as Mei-Ling saw it too.
Jon was still staring at this as Felicia was wrapping the makeshift bandage.
"Jon? Does that hurt?" She notices he's not looking at her. "Speak to me. What-" Jon held her by the chin and turned her head. She saw it too. "W-what?" she stammered.
Danny just appeared right behind Demitri, with a cold, steel look in his eyes.
Demitri turned around and scowled.
"I don't know how you did that, but you won't evade for long."
Demitri reached out and attempted to strike, but somehow a backhand from the ghost boy deflected it. The vampire lord's eyes widened in shock before he bared his fangs.
He threw out a punch, but that too was deflected with ease.
Demitri did not stop. He dashed towards Danny with his claws out, but Danny simply grabbed him by the wrist and threw him to the air, making Demitri stumbled in the air until he balanced himself. With a growl, he flew towards Danny with a kick, but Danny avoided with a light tilt of his head, causing the vampire to make a crater behind him.
"H-how?" Felicia asked in shock.
"I don't know." Jon said with wide eyes.
"You won't keep this is up for long, brat!" Demitri exclaimed as he charged again. He kept throwing slashes, but Danny just kept back stepping, ducking, and weaving to dodge his attacks. Suddenly, Demitri strikes on the ground, causing a big dust cloud to form. He then flew to the air, his cape waving wildly. "This is where I kill you!" The vampire lord shouted as he dove towards the cloud, feet first. "BAT SPIN!"
He started spinning wildly towards the dust cloud, aiming at the silhouette of Danny.
"Get out of there!" Jon shouted to his friend.
Danny's expression did not change, it maintained that steeled look before he made another move.
"HAHAHA! NOW DI-AUGH!"
Demitri's taunt was cut off when something interrupted his drilling attack.
A fist connected with his stomach, breaking his formation.
To everyone's shock, Danny somehow flew up and threw a punch that connected with his abdomen, sending the vampire lord into the ground, making a small crater upon impact and kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Did you see that?" Felicia asked with wide eyes.
"I didn't even see him move." Jon said.
"Wow…you sure pick a good one, Sis." Mei-Ling said in shock to her equally shocked sister.
"Now that's a catch." Morrigan said to her shocked sister. "You should ensnare him while he's still single."
Danny landed on the ground, looking calm. Whatever had affected him just now gone, he smiled.
"Bat spin? Does everyone in your world shout attacks like that?" He asks jokingly.
"Shut… up..." Demitri went before getting on his knees, clutching to his stomach, still in pain.

Jay the Average Fanboy: Call me a creature of habit, but I like it better when they don't start with the names of the characters, building up to them. The theme they had since season 5, the removing of FIGHT and this convinces me they don't care that much for build up anymore. Other than that, the only one I didn't like was Blake vs Mikasa, because Blake's the worst in a show I don't like anymore. I made no changes to the wail, I just figure Demitri could handle it. I have, but I haven't read it, and not really interested in it. I sympathize with Kuro over how "He who must not be named" treated him, but he and I have different opinions when it comes to characters and elements of Danny Phantom.
