Gus drove them to the station quite slowly. Gus noticed how whenever he sped up slightly Shawn increasingly looked more uneasy and panicked. Unused to cars, Gus stayed well below the speed limit after seeing how a lower speed made him seem more at ease.
Gus parked the car and led them to the entrance of the station. Henry was stood by the door way anxiously and his face lit up when he saw his son walking through the doorway.
"Shawn!" Henry gaped, embracing Shawn in a hug. Shawn immediately tensed.
"Thank you" Henry mouthed to Charlie and she smiled.
Henry just held his son in his arms for several moments. He couldn't actually believe his son was standing before him. Even the touch of his body in his arms did not completely convince his mind that it was true.
"and Gus!" Henry remembered drawing away from Shawn, "You've grown up so much"
Gus raised his eyebrow. Of course he has grown up; the last time they saw each other was years ago. Gus proceeded to smile smugly at the compliment none the less.
Henry put his hand to his head, trying the figure out what they should do first. Food obviously but now his son was actually here with him he could show him what he does for a living. Perhaps Shawn will understand if he sees how important my work is? Henry thought.
"You want a tour?" he asked flustered.
Shawn smiled, "Sure"
Gus and Charlie exchanged a brief glance that went unnoticed by the pair who were staring at each other in fascination.
Henry grinned at his son's enthusiasm. "I'll get the visitor passes"
Henry led the way to the reception area where Officer Allen was busy chatting on the phone. When she saw Henry approaching she hesitantly put the phone down whispering a goodbye. Henry guessed it was a personal call, after all Officer Allen was the station's biggest gossip. Nothing escaped her ears.
Henry smiled at her before saying, "I need three visitor passes please"
Officer Allen then turned to notice the people stood behind him, her eyes rested on Shawn before she flittered to Henry and back, studying the subtle similarities between them.
"Is he…" she pondered.
Henry smiled proudly, "Yes. This is my son Shawn"
"I…" she stammered, temporarily lost for words. "Pleasure to meet you… I'll go get those passes"
She left the office in a flustered hurry. Of to tell the whole station of the news probably, Henry easily guessed. But he didn't care, it wasn't just gossip, it was true, and that filled him with more happiness than anyone knew.
Shawn noticed the strange behaviour this woman was exhibiting, of course. He shot a quizzical expression at both Charlie and Gus but both replied with shrugs and looks of confusion.
Shawn however, would not buy this. Perhaps it was just his paranoia but something was going on. Shawn was adept at reading facial expressions and from her reactions it seemed that she knew of him already. But why did she act so shocked to see him here? Unless she knows….
Shawn knew that Detective O'Hara and Detective Lassiter knew the circumstances in which he grew up. But Shawn was beginning to think that the whole station already knew.
That meant only one thing.
His father had betrayed him.
Again.
Charlie could sense the inner turmoil in her patient as Shawn struggled to keep a lid on his temper but the anger quickly dissipated when Officer Allen re-entered the office. Shawn didn't want to make it look like he was hurt or upset, first impressions were very important for him, especially as he deduced that everyone here already knew of his condition and were already judging him.
"Thank you" Henry smiled as Officer Allen handed him the visitor passes.
"You're welcome. It was a pleasure" she smiled, before returning to organise papers on her desk and punching in another telephone number and greeting the person on the other line.
"Here you go" Henry stated giving them all a pass. Shawn just held his for several moments before realising that it was meant to go around his neck.
Henry quickly led the way to the Chief's office and he knocked on the door. Charlie and Gus glanced at each other again. It was easy to tell that both of them thought they were intruding in their family time. But they remained none the less.
"Come in" a voice called through.
They entered.
The Chief smiled in surprise as Henry came bounding in and she stood up eagerly, anticipating Shawn's arrival. Immediately she recognised him standing behind his father, he looked identical to the footage of the statement he had provided. Her eyes started twinkling as she sensed the pride in Henry's voice.
"Karen, this is my son Shawn" he beamed.
"It's great to finally meet you" she greeted him, coming forward to shake his hand.
Shawn hesitantly reached forward and shook her hand, avoiding eye contact before slowly wiping his hand on his trousers.
"And you must be Miss Marks" she greeted Charlie before shaking her hand, just like she had done with Shawn.
"Charlie, please" she corrected with a smile.
Karen's eyes turned towards Gus and her face showed a moment of confusion before looking at Henry expectantly.
"This is Shawn's best friend, Burton Guster" Henry explained.
"Gus" Gus corrected awkwardly before reaching forward to shake her hand. He hated being called Burton now. Shawn's influence.
The Chief smiled and didn't jump when the phone at her desk began to ring loudly. She smiled apologetically and leant over her desk to retrieve her phone. She held the phone to her ear for several moments before mouthing,
"Sorry, I gotta take this"
Henry sighed and smiled with a slight nod to show that he understood. He then opened the door to the office and held it open so they could all vacate and leave her to her conversation.
Shawn vaguely remembered Karen Vick. His dad used to talk about her a lot and her name was listed in a lot of the reports that he used to read as a child. Shawn summarised that this was the same person, especially as he referred to her as Karen instead of the Chief. Being head detective, he doubted his father would regard his superior so informally if they weren't such good friends.
Stepping outside her office it was Gus' turn to express his amazement as he turned to see a man, dressed in a darkened yellow outfit with stripes of reflectors that seemed to bounce the light over the room. He was holding a helmet under his left arm.
"Hi fireman"
Gus immediately rushed forward to engage in conversation and they obediently followed. Shawn however changed direction as he spotted the detectives that had interviewed him before. They seemed to be arguing, or that is what it looked like from Shawn's distance. Charlie noticed Shawn's change in direction and followed him leaving Henry with Gus.
Charlie could easily tell that Shawn had no idea what he was going to say to either of them but she admired his courage.
Carlton was talking intently to his new partner when he spotted him. Juliet noticed her partners voice beginning to trail of and his continuing gaze well over her shoulder. She turned round and saw Shawn heading towards them with Charlie right by his side.
"Shawn?" she gaped in a mixture of shock and disbelief.

Henry was bored as Gus continued to talk to the fireman. Henry glanced at the nearest computer, he looked quickly for his son and found him to be talking to Juliet and Carlton and he smiled. Knowing that he wasn't near enough to see what he was doing, he opened the search bar.
His fingers pausing over the keys for a moment he typed in, 'Paranoid schizophrenia'
His scrolled through the results, refusing to use a Wikipedia entry as he knew better than anyone that most of them were a load of rubbish and he clicked on the one that looked most realistic.
'Paranoid schizophrenia is a subtype of schizophrenia in which the patient has delusions (false beliefs) that a person or some individuals are plotting against them or members of their family
The majority of people with paranoid schizophrenia, as with most schizophrenia subtypes may also have auditory hallucinations - they hear things that are not real. They may also have delusions of personal grandeur - a false belief that they are much greater and more powerful and influential than they really are.
An individual with paranoid schizophrenia may spend a disproportionate amount of time thinking up ways of protecting themselves from their persecutors.
Typically, a person with paranoid schizophrenia has fewer problems with memory, dulled emotions and concentration compared to those with other subtypes; which allows them to think and function more successfully. Even so, paranoid schizophrenia is a chronic (long-term, lifelong) condition which may eventually lead to complications, including suicidal thoughts and behavior.
With proper treatment and support, patients have a very good chance of leading happy and productive life's. '
Henry finished reading with a sickening feeling of dread.
Suicidal? Does that mean his son has felt suicidal? That he might want to harm himself in the future.
He was interrupted from his musings by Gus clearing his throat and looking down on him.
"What are you doing?" Gus questioned, the anger betrayed in his voice was evident.
"I…I was just looking up his condition" Henry explained meekly.
"Don't judge him by a stupid biased internet site. I thought the idea of this week was to get to know him! Why don't you just ask him? He appreciates honesty" Gus told him sharply and Henry understood.
"Shall we?" Gus gestured towards where Shawn and Charlie were chatting.
Henry left the computer blaring white as he walked away with Gus over to where the others were mid conversation.

"Shawn?" she gaped in a mixture of shock and disbelief.
Carlton watched as his partner turned into a blubbering idiot and sighed in annoyance. He had no idea what was so special about him being here. Why he was here was a mystery but his carer was here so he knew he couldn't complain.
"What are you doing here?" she finally stuttered.
Shawn smiled, "I'm free for the week" he replied.
Juliet's face slowly turned into a grin. "So what are you up to this week then?"
Shawn shrugged, "Dunno. Spending quality time with my dad and stuff. What are you up to?"
Juliet sighed, "We're working this case at the moment. This guy Elliot has abducted his girlfriend and we are trying to find her before he kills her"
"She's probably already dead. The guy is nuttier than you" Carlton commented. Shawn tried not to physically react but Juliet turned to stare at her partner for such an insensitive comment, especially when Shawn was standing right there in front of them and he made no effort to hush his comment.
Shawn didn't seem fazed. "So the guy is crazy?" he confirmed.
Carlton gave him a disbelieving look and returned to looking at his notes.
"We think so, he's done this before but we could never catch him. He's always got away" Juliet told him and Shawn took a sneaky glance at the notes she was holding and saw the picture done by a sketch artist.
The bags under his eyes were evident and his light blonde hair stuck to his forward. His blue eyes glaring from the page, accenting his sickening smile.
"How come you didn't catch him? Did he light the bodies on fire?" Shawn guessed, making a huge leap. He assumed that since the firemen were obviously on standby made clear by the presence of the fireman talking to Gus. Of course, he could have been there for any reason and for any case but Shawn quickly leapt to the conclusion due to the method of death was smoke inhalation on the last report, another fact he managed to gleam of the notes.
"How did you know he lit the bodies on fire? Carlton asked suspiciously, drawing the attention of another officer who hovered awkwardly nearby.
Shawn decided to wind him up a little, "Well it's what I would have done. He's probably religious too, sending him up to heaven and what not"
The officer's eyes widened at that point and he scuttled off, trying to avoid Charlie's suspicious gaze.
Carlton scoffed disgusted and Juliet's eyes widened slightly in shock but did her best not to look at Shawn with disgust. She disguised it perfectly unlike Carlton, but as adept as he was at reading expressions, he knew he and upset her but at that moment, absorbed with Carlton's banter he didn't care.
Shawn and Carlton were staring at each other in silence when Henry and Gus came over to join them.
"You ready for lunch?" Henry asked his son with a smile, trying to diffuse the tension between Carlton and Shawn as he automatically realised something upsetting had been said.
Shawn teared his eyes away from Carlton and looked at Charlie pleadingly. He wasn't hungry, surprise, surprise and he wanted to spend a little more time with Juliet.
Charlie glared back at Shawn, subtly reminding him that part of the condition allowing him his temporary release was that he had to eat at least three meals a day.
Shawn sighed and nodded as the others eye's flittered across to each other, sensing that another conversation was going on silently between them.
"Would you like to join us?" Charlie asked Juliet politely. At this point, Carlton had taken his eyes of Shawn and had moved away to his desk and buried his head in the notes.
"I'd love to… but" her eyes moved to her partner.
Carlton's head snapped up annoyed, protective of his new partner he said, "But we are working an important case and we don't need another mental case right now!" he snapped.
Juliet's head whizzed round.
"That's ok" Shawn told her calmly, "Maybe some other time"
He then turned round to leave and the others followed in concern at Carlton's harsh words. Henry was torn between defending his son and comforting him. He decided to comfort him and followed him but not before he gave a fierce glare to Juliet to sort her partner out, she understood the message immediately.
After they had left Juliet turned to her partner fiercely.
"That was rude"
Carlton just shrugged.
"You don't have anything to say for yourself?" she asked him with a tone of disbelief.
"What? I was just being honest" he replied sipping his coffee.
"You called him a mental case in front of everyone"
"It's true"
"But very insensitive" Juliet told him sternly.
Carlton sighed and looked up from his notes that he was desperately trying to study.
"Well, we don't need another one do we? We have this guy"
There was a slight pause.
"You're unbelievable" she huffed as she grabbed the case file she was holding and she stormed away.
"Where are you going?" Carlton shouted after her.
"I'm getting myself a coffee" she replied in an almost sarcastic tone.
Carlton looked down at his own drink as he realised he had forgotten to get one for his partner or even asked whether she wanted one.
"Oh…. Sorry. Did you want one?" he asked rhetorically, but Juliet had already gone.
