Henry took them to one of the near-by restaurants called Lento's and they sat outside taking in the sunlight. Shawn gaped when he first saw the menu. He could actually choose what he wanted, instead of being given meals with the correct dietary requirements that sometimes tasted like burnt mush.

There were so many things Shawn wanted to try; he spent ages looking at the menu.

"I'll have the jerk chicken" he eventually decided. Perhaps later they would come back here and he could choose something else later in the week.

Shawn didn't really see Gus as a home cooking kind of guy. It was obvious that he appreciated his food as he ordered himself a main as well as two side orders for himself. How he managed to stay in shape was beyond him.

Although Shawn had previously convinced himself that he wasn't hungry, he was devouring this meal and Charlie seemed to make note of Shawn's preference.

"So dad, how is stuff at the station going?" Shawn asked.

Henry smiled putting down his fork for a moment. "Good. I see you met Detective O'Hara and Detective Lassiter"

"Yeah" Shawn swallowed heavily looking down, ignoring the gazes from Charlie and Gus causing them both to chat lightly to each other and carry on their meals, leaving some quality father bonding time.

"Juliet's from Miami. I made her transfer with me, she's got a lot of potential" Henry smiled.

"What about Detective Lassiter?" Shawn queried, wanting to know whether his father had seen something in him too and brought him over because as far as Shawn could see, he was extremely small minded. Not a good quality to have in a cop.

"Oh no, he was there when I left. He's a bit trigger happy…. Incredibly blunt sometimes, but a good detective"

Shawn nodded whilst munching on another piece of chicken. It was the most incredible chicken he had ever tasted and Shawn knew that if he ever did come back here again, he would be ordering the exact same thing.

Henry caught Gus' eye.

"Son…" Henry started, mentally preparing himself to start his line of questioning. Maybe he should have checked with Charlie first. But she was right there to shut him up if need be and her attention was now fully on them both.

"Gus caught me earlier searching your condition on the internet. He said I should just ask you"

Shawn looked a little uncomfortable as he hated discussing his condition with others. Though he knew Charlie would force him anyway.

"What do you wanna know?" he asked slowly.

Henry took a deep breath and decided to jump straight in. "have you ever been suicidal?"

"What? No!" Shawn quickly denied, confused at this abrupt start of questioning.

"Good" Henry sighed a breath of release, as if a huge weight had been lifted of him.

"Look dad, I don't like talking about my condition. The gist is I see things and people that aren't there and get a bit sociopathic sometimes when I am annoyed or moody. Clear enough for you?"

Henry stared and nodded. He could easily tell that Shawn didn't like discussing this and he believed this to be the most he had ever said to someone that wasn't Gus. Obviously they would have to build on their level of trust.

However Henry just couldn't let it go. "What about Ross? He still around?"

Shawn paused thoughtfully, not at all offended by this question and Gus smiled, curious as to his answer.

"Yeah, not all the time though"

Gus frowned, "You know I'm curious. Does he still look like he did when he was a kid or did he grow up with you?"

"He grew up" Shawn laughed and Charlie smiled at the level of ease he was answering the questions.

It was Henry's turn to look a bit uncomfortable and of course Shawn noticed.

"Is this making you uncomfortable?" Shawn joked.

Henry let out a shaky smile. "No, it's just I've never met him and he's such a big part of your life"

Shawn simply laughed even though his father's response had been totally serious.

"Well the next time he shows up I'll introduce you" Shawn joked.

Henry furrowed his brow, knowing that it would be extremely awkward, talking to a part of his son's imagination.

"Shawn, you have to stop seeing him as a person remember" Charlie gently reminded him.

"I know" Shawn murmured, it was so hard though. Ross had always been there for him and Shawn knew that he would always see him as a friend, whether he was real or not didn't particularly matter.

"I try and get him to leave me alone most of the time" Shawn told her with an earnest expression.

Charlie nodded as if she was satisfied with that answer but Henry looked confused.

"Try" he asked puzzled.

"They can be very insistent to stay and annoy the hell out of me" Shawn told him taking another mouthful of his chicken and sipping his drink.

"I thought…" Henry paused, trying to collect his thoughts together. "..Since these hallucinations were a thing of the mind you would be able to control them"

"They control him, more like" Gus corrected before Shawn could say anything.

Henry's eyebrows shot up.

Shawn seemed briefly angered by this sense of betrayal but Charlie glared at him. He was only telling the truth after all and it was his father.

Shawn swallowed as his father's glare.

"What does that mean?" he asked.

Shawn looked down and Charlie took it upon herself to answer for him.

"Command hallucinations" Charlie explained, "Hallucinations that convince him or force him to do things he wouldn't usually do"

"Does this happen often?" Henry asked, his mouth still slightly hanging open.

"No" Shawn was quick to say.

Henry looked briefly at Charlie to know if he was telling the truth and she half-heartedly shrugged to show her agreement.

"What do they make you do?" he asked curiously and Gus sighed to himself. This was getting way to personal for his liking and he could tell that his best friend was getting annoyed and he knew what happened when he got annoyed.

Shawn narrowed his eyes annoyed and opened his mouth to speak, "I mutilated a cat and took out its organs once, I tried to decorate it on my wall but I was restrained before I could get them there. The blue tak wouldn't have held it anyway" he smiled slightly, remembering the experience. Trying to sneak back into the building and avoid the cameras whilst covered in blood.

Henry tried not to look shocked but failed.

"Wasn't it horrible?" he gasped but regretted the question almost immediately.

" It wasn't too bad. I just hated that I didn't feel like it was me doing it, you know?" he said rhetorically and his father's face went a little green.

Henry tried to accept what his son was telling him and he did so with extreme difficulty. In a way, he was glad that his son was confiding in him about his condition. But in the other way, discovering the extent of his son's illness was horrifying and he wished that he didn't know.

"Are you on medication?" he asked worriedly and Shawn drew his lips into a tight smile.

"Yes I am. Now can you drop it?" Shawn snapped and Henry immediately looked up and gave a hesitant nod.

The conversation had naturally drawn to an awkward close as everyone had finished eating and Henry had just paid the bill, even after Charlie and Gus offered to pay

Gus was checking his phone when he first smelt it, Shawn recognised the look on his friends face immediately, when he was trying to figure out what a certain smell was he would furrow his eyebrows and close his eyes taking in huge breathes.

"What can the super smeller detect today?" Shawn asked.

"Smells like smoke. Someone must be having a BBQ" he realised.

Henry then stood up attracting the attention of everyone at the table. "That's no BBQ" he stated.

Everyone quickly turned around to see smoke rising in the distance coming from one of abandoned buildings in the area. The smoke rising was a heavy black in colour and it was much too large to be a simple BBQ.

Shawn stood up to and got that crazy sparkle in his eyes. "Dad, call it in. I wanna go watch"

Shawn missed the worried look on Charlie's face, knowing that this excitement wasn't good for him as he was already running down the steps of the restaurant. Gus followed immediately and Charlie watched as Henry took out his mobile phone and proceeded to ring the police.

After he had finished talking to them, he ran in the direction of the fire to find his own, Charlie was close behind him.

Shawn was watching the building burn down with Gus by his side. The faint wailing of a fire engine was getting louder and louder and Shawn watched with curiosity as a long read car with a siren on top drew up outside the building, followed by several police cars in black and white all with blue flashing colours.

Shawn watched fascinated. It was like he was in the middle of a crime scene and the flashing lights made it so very real. It was so much more alive than he had ever imagined before.

Gus was so conflicted. He believed Shawn had forgotten that potentially a woman could be in there burning alive but Gus was too scared to run into a burning building. Especially as the fire engines had already arrived although Gus didn't know if they knew there was someone in there. It was an abandoned were house after all. "Shawn..." he trailed off as the flames proceeded to grow in size.

The people inside the red car were revealed to be Detective Lassiter and Detective O'Hara and Shawn smiled at them with a small wave to greet them. Plus, Shawn had beaten them there which made him feel a sense of achievement, even if it was only by accident.

Carlton looked over shocked when he saw Shawn and Gus standing there, watching as the fire grew in size. It was only as he and Juliet walked towards them they could tell he was smiling.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Carlton asked with annoyance.

"Watching" Shawn replied, as if the answer was obvious.

Carlton gave an exasperated look towards Gus, "We were eating and we saw smoke" Gus explained.

"And you ran towards it?" Carlton asked in disbelief.

Shawn just turned to him and smiled, twinkling with his eyes.

Nothing else was said as Henry and Charlie ran towards them. Henry was panting heavily after the short jog, a little out of shape since he transferred and Charlie looked on with a concerned facial expression but it diminished when she saw that Shawn and Gus were safe, away from the fire.

Carlton sighed in annoyance, now the rest of the crowd were there.

Yay.

"I'll be back in a moment" Carlton huffed before walking off. Juliet turned to see were her partner was going and spotted him talking to what looked like the Chief of Arson.

They took a moment to watch the building. The firemen were working quickly and shoots of water were flying up into the air only to get consumed by the black smoke above them. A few men stood around the perimeter of the building holding walkie talkies and talking into them to report on its progress as fires spark back up all the time and it was important to have all the angles considered.

"Uh… Detective?" a nervous officer asked.

Juliet turned her shoulder to find herself looking into the face of Buzz McNabb. She adored him, he was a new detective too, though he was lacking in experience and still considered a rookie to all the other detectives. That was why he was stuck doing boring paperwork and following out any jobs that Carlton or Juliet needed doing. However Buzz had a very sharp mind and was very inventive. He had plenty of ideas and unique methods in going about his police work which was why he was considered such an asset. But that wasn't why Juliet loved him. She loved him because he made her smile; he always came to work so willing and enthusiastic. Juliet loved to help Buzz and teach him about procedure, just like a little brother.

"They said it is now safe to enter the building and they have gone in to find the girl" Buzz reported.

"Oh, the girl" Shawn suddenly realised. He had completely forgotten that the fire was probably related to the murder of this woman, Elliot his name was probably dumped her body in there and set it alight.

"I didn't hear any screams" Gus told them before taking a nervous gulp. "You think that means she's… dead?" he whispered the last word.

There was silence.

"I don't know….. But there is an ambulance here just in case" Juliet spoke out and Buzz smiled with tight lips. He really hoped this girl was ok, though it was unlikely.

"You reckon we should have gone in when we arrived?" Shawn asked looking at Gus who was looking back at him with a terror filled face.

Juliet though smiled to herself slightly. It was glad to see that Shawn did have some sort of conscience, thinking that he was probably scared by the fire and not wanting to go near enough to potentially get burned. He didn't seem like the type of person to sacrifice themselves for another, though Charlie knew differently.

"Doesn't matter now"! Carlton said interrupting after having walked back over and made Buzz jump who then turned round with a sheepish expression.

They all looked at him and he took a deep breath before speaking.

"She's alive. Just. They are reeling her out now" he gritted his teeth as they all turned around to see her body being wheeled into the ambulance.
