Shawn wasn't stood the closest but he moved forwards so he could get a better view. An oxygen mask had been placed on her face though Shawn suspected that caused her a great amount of pain due to the skin around her face was all red. Luckily for her, she was unconscious. Her skin was blotchy, mixtures of dark reds and black scared her arms and legs. She was almost bald with a few pieces of lifeless hair dangling down her shoulder that survived the scorch. Seemingly fake though as when scorched it seemed to have shrivelled and shrunk. Shawn marvelled how she could still be alive but Shawn was reassured of that fact as he watched her chest rise and fall. How had he done it? If he had set her alight then she would definitely be dead, that meant that he had set something else on fire and made her watch as it came towards her, inducing fear. Areas of her arms and legs were streaked, as if her fake tan had started to run after being dowsed with all of that water, what was left of her makeup was running down her face, her black mascara had run making it evident that she had been crying. She was covered in black ash and her wrist was bent at a funny angle. Shawn didn't miss the marks around her wrists, much like you would get if you were cuffed to something. It seemed Elliot had tied her up to make sure she couldn't escape, though there was no sign of the rope now, it was likely that the fire had eaten its way through the rope and eaten at her hands.
Charlie only glanced at the poor woman for a second and gagged silently before turning away. This was much unlike Gus who let his disgust show and ran to the nearest bin to throw up.
Charlie studied Shawn's face. He wasn't disgusted. He looked fascinated and she knew that this was in a strange way appealing to him.
"Shawn…" she murmured putting a hand on his shoulder to get his attention.
Shawn jumped at the unexpected contact and turned to look at Charlie, not missing the frowning faces of the others including Buzz who was looking at him curiously.
"Doesn't look Shawn" Charlie told him.
Shawn inwardly protested but he wasn't about to declare that he wanted to get even closer and stare at her some more so he turned his head away and watched out of the corner of his eyes as she was lifted into the ambulance.
"This is your case, right?" Shawn confirmed.
Juliet nodded.
"So shouldn't you be catching him now?"
Juliet tried not to frown at the insult but Carlton raised an eyebrow.
"I've instructed officers to guard her at the hospital" Buzz started looking back at the ambulance.
"And when he comes back to finish the job we'll get him" Juliet finished with determination. She wasn't going to let this crook escape.
Shawn looked confused and Gus came back over after seeing that the ambulance had left.
"Why would he care about her so much to risk capture?" Shawn asked.
Carlton laughed at him and Gus and Henry frowned disapprovingly.
"Well, obviously you don't know anything about relationships" Carlton muttered, but of course Shawn heard him.
Charlie stared at Carlton and he seemed to guess that what he said wasn't very suitable, especially as he didn't have any romance in a mental institution.
Juliet glanced at her partner and that was all Shawn needed.
"Maybe not" Shawn replied coolly, "But you are no expert either. How is your ex-wife?"
Henry spluttered openly. How had his son known that? He was pretty sure that no one had told him. After all, he had no idea really who he was! He was asking about him at lunch!
Gus and Charlie laughed as Juliet and Buzz turned to him shocked and Carlton spluttered.
"My? How the hell do you know?" he stuttered.
"Sir? I didn't know you were divorced" Buzz told him. Still addressing him as Sir since he had only just been made a Detective and Juliet doubted he would ever stop respecting them both. Buzz respected everyone.
Shawn sighed in annoyance and not wanting to bother explaining his observations just shoved his hand in his pocket and replied,
"Does it matter? I'm good at reading people. You're wasting your time"
Carlton huffed silently but Buzz looked towards him curiously.
"Shawn. If you were him, what would you do now?" Buzz asked.
All eyes turned towards Shawn who actually seemed quite shocked to be asked. He looked towards the abandoned warehouse thoughtfully.
"Well, I wouldn't go after her. She's basically dead anyway. Ending her life now would just spare her from her pain and I...he wouldn't want that"
They all caught the slip.
"He would want her to suffer. You said he has done this before, he's probably heading to some nightclub to pick up another blonde bimbo and repeat the ritual" he guessed.
The detectives paused thoughtfully.
"Why a night club?" Carlton asked. "Why not a bar?"
Shawn furrowed his brow with a sense of disbelief. Surely it was obvious?
"Did you not see her? Where else do you find blonde bimbos? Fake tan, fake extensions, tons of makeup. Do women get that dressed up just to wallow their sins in alcohol at a bar?" Shawn questioned and the others nodded, it made sense.
"We'll keep officers guarding her just in case though" Juliet told him and Buzz and Carlton nodded, not wanting to take any unnecessary risks.
Shawn sighed.
"We'll leave you to your investigation now Detectives" Charlie spoke out and Henry nodded.
"Gonna spend some quality time with my son" Henry told them and Gus smiled. Juliet gave a quiet small smile. Glad to see that Henry wasn't ignoring his son anymore.
"Ok, well. I'll see you later?" she asked rhetorically, wanting to confirm that Shawn would indeed be back.
Shawn nodded with a smile. "Definitely"
Carlton bowed his head as a farewell gesture and Juliet smiled before she walked away with her partner.
Gus turned towards Shawn with a small grin, "So what do you wanna do now?"
"How about we hit a nightclub?" Shawn asked suggestively and they all sighed.
"We're not going after this Elliot guy Shawn, that's a job for the actual detectives" Henry reminded him and Shawn gave him a very pointed look.
"I never said anything about him. It's just…" he paused convincingly, "I've never been before" he finished quietly and immediately Henry and Gus both softened as they realised that West Haven would certainly not allow him to go out partying and meet girls.
Charlie however saw through Shawn's act immediately.
"Like that's going to work" she scoffed and Henry and Gus looked over confused.
Shawn looked over pleadingly but Charlie looked at him sternly and simply said "No"
Shawn seemed to accept this rather reluctantly and Henry realised the perfect way to spend the afternoon, or what was left of it.
"How about you come home kid?" Henry suggested with a smile.
"Home?"
"Home" Henry confirmed.

...
...
It took only moments to agree and after a short walk back to the cars they were on the way home. Shawn was nervous. The day had been so exciting already and as he sat in the car seat he wondered what his 'home' was going to be like. He hadn't found out much about his father, was he married? No, he hadn't seen a ring. He wondered if the house would be the same as he left it many years ago. Would his room be the same? Fit for an eight year old?
The journey wasn't long as Henry lived only minutes away from the station and so before Shawn knew it, he was getting out of the car and staring at his childhood home.
He stared for several moments before he heard a faint roaring sound. Frightened he turned around only to see the sea and the waves crashing fiercely on the shore. He had almost forgotten what the sea looked and sounded like. Before the end of the week, he silently promised himself that he would get in that water and swim before he left.
"Welcome home son" Henry announced before he opened the door and gained them all entry.
"It's exactly as I remember it" Shawn told him looking around, "You haven't changed anything have you?"
Henry shrugged meekly and everyone followed him into kitchen. There had been no need to change anything; Henry liked things exactly as it was.
"Tea? Coffee?" Henry asked as he filled the kettle with water and clicked it on.
"Please" Gus grunted.
"Yes please" Charlie agreed.
"Shawn?" Henry asked, holding up an empty mug.
"Nah, I'm ok. I'll have some water if that's ok"
Henry nodded, "Sure"
Henry reached for a glass and made Shawn a glass of water whilst he waited for the kettle to boil. They all took seats around the table and Shawn grabbed and downed half of his drink in one go.
"I'm gonna reacquaint myself with the house, if that's ok?" he asked and Henry quickly nodded.
"We'll be here" Henry smiled.
Shawn nodded before heading up the stairs. He paused at the top of the stairs and looked left towards his parent's room. Well now it was just his dad's room. He peaked his head inside and part of him hoped that his mother would be there. Doing her hair in the mirror on the small dressing table just like she used to. Shawn remembered the days when he used to hug her feet as she got ready for a night out, a very important meal or just a casual night out with friends. She always sat in that exact spot. Shawn spotted her hair brush sitting next to the mirror. One thing she had forgotten in seemed. Shawn picked it up gently; bits of hair were still caught in it from when she had brushed her hair years prior.
Shawn turned suddenly as he heard a quiet sobbing sound. Surely there was no one else living here, his dad would have told him. Calmly, he slowly put the hair brush back in its place and he crept out the room and listened to where the sound was coming from.
It was his old room.
The door wasn't closed but wedged open with an old toy, it squeaked loudly as he opened the door. He could hear the chatter from downstairs as the others were drinking but his thoughts were solely on the sobbing coming from inside.
Shawn stared at his old room. Everything was as he had left it. From the toys that still scattered the room do the same bedding and curtains. And talking about his bedding… it seemed to be shaking.
Shawn stood there in silence for a few moments and was broken out of his trance as his dad called up,
"You alright son?" he yelled after having heard the loud squeaking sound.
"Yeah…uh. Dad. You haven't got any one else staying here have you?" Shawn asked curiously, staring at the shivering bed.
Downstairs they all shared a glance and Charlie sighed.
"No son, it's just us" Henry replied up to Shawn. Maybe he should go up there.
They were all quiet for a few moments and as they heard Shawn begin to talk, they knew that for him, there was someone in the house.
Shawn accepted what his father said immediately. There was no one here and yet the bed was still shivering.
Slowly, Shawn made his way round next to the bed and drew back the covers to find a little boy crying and clutching the covers to protect him.
"Hey… what's wrong?" Shawn asked in a comforting tone.
"Everyone's left me" he little boy sobbed as he drew his arms tighter around the duvet covers.
"That's not true… I'm here" Shawn reasoned, coming closer to the bed.
"You don't count. You're just a big version of me anyway" the little boy spat, peering above the covers so that Shawn got a clear view of his face.
Shawn gasped; he thought he had recognised the little boy. It was the spitting image of himself when he was younger, in fact it was him. Shawn desperately tried to remind himself that he wasn't real.
"You shouldn't have come back" the boy sobbed, as if worried for Shawn's safety.
Confusion was evident on Shawn's face.
"So I need to explain it to you?" the boy yelled, "He's a MONSTER! He ABANDONED us! He's just gonna hurt us again.." he finished meekly, retreating into the covers once more. His sobbing grew louder.
The logical part of Shawn knew that the younger version of himself was a hallucination and that whatever insecurity he had about his abandonment was immediately intensified. Shawn was mad at his father still, of course, but he was willing to temporarily forget about it if it meant a week of freedom.
"Freedom?" Ross repeated sarcastically.
Shawn jumped at Ross' sudden entrance. Now there were two. He had definitely had enough excitement for one day and he had a feeling that this would end badly. Ross looked pissed.
"You wanted freedom? How do you think Jessica feels right now? Or Bethany? You got up and left without so much as a proper goodbye! How do you think they will progress this week Shawn? You can't talk about freedom! Teachers pet! I never got to do half the things you did!" Ross finished angrily.
"That's because YOU'RE NOT REAL!" Shawn yelled, so loudly that he was sure everyone downstairs would have heard him.
They had.
Henry put down his tea and raced upstairs to aid his son. Gus and Charlie followed and when they opened the door the sight they saw was shocking.
Shawn was slumped in the corner of the room, sat and hugging his knees with his hands. His eyes were watering showing that he had either been crying or was trying extremely hard not to… and wasn't succeeding particularly well. His eyes were darting from Ross to the boy in his bed to Charlie. Trying hard to avoid looking at either Henry or Gus, he didn't want them to see him like this but was too preoccupied to care.
"Make them leave" he whispered to Charlie. She immediately understood what he wanted her to do.
"Shawn?" Henry asked, trying to get his attention.
Shawn was oblivious.
"Shawn!" Ross was yelling.
Charlie reached into her pocket and retrieved a small covered needle.
"She's gonna hurt you!" the little boy sobbed again hysterically, "She's got a pointy thing!"
Shawn flitted his eyes over, "Please just, shut up!" he snapped and Henry and Gus shared a concerned glance.
Charlie approached Shawn whose eyes flittered between her, Ross and the little boy who was still shivering. She reached out a hand. Shawn flinched at the unexpected contact and immediately moved away, straight into her other hand containing the needle.
Shawn barely felt the prick as he slumped into unconsciousness.
A/N : It was inevitable wasn't it? So much excitment in one day. Poor Shawn. With mini Shawn and Ross ganging up on him like that. Handy how Charlie knows exactly what to do.
I wonder where Shawn's unrational fear of pointy things comes from?
"It's perfectly rational, thank you very much !"
Leave a review! Let me know what you thought! Any suggestions?
