Author note: Did you miss me?

This fic is not abandoned, I have just been very busy. If you have forgotten what happened I'm not gonna sum it up, just go back a couple of chapters and re read. Enjoy.

"I will have to check with the Chief before you help on the case" Henry stuttered, "Civilians aren't meant to be involved in ongoing investigations"

Shawn looked up confused; he had thought that rule never applied to him. After all, he had helped with plenty of cases when he was younger. It was easy for him to look through his father's cases and highlight the occasional key word or annotate in the margins.

"So you will ask?" Shawn confirmed,

"Of course" Henry supplied quickly, "First thing in the morning"

The others smiled as did Shawn, albeit suspiciously. He would find out whether his father was being truthful tomorrow.

Shawn was buzzing with excitement when he woke up the next morning. Henry still needed to get permission from the chief but Shawn was hopeful, especially after Charlie had agreed. Gus was on the phone when Shawn appeared and he seemed to be frowning. It didn't feel right ease dropping but he couldn't help it, so he made himself at home in the kitchen where Guys was sat.

"You want me to lead the meeting?" Gus related looking dumfounded.

Shawn raised his eyebrows.

"When is the meeting?" He paused, "today?"

Guys looked at Shawn with a slight grimace but Shawn nodded encouragingly, holding up his visitors pass for the station indicating he was going to spend the day with his father.

"OK sir, I'll be in as soon as possible"

Shawn smiled to himself as he made himself breakfast and Gus hung up the phone.

"Sounded important" Shawn remarked. "I know you said you'd take the week off but I don't want to be the cause of you losing your job"

Gus laughed "that was my boss, he wasn't gonna fire me as I don't think I've ever used any of my vacation days but we're trying to promote this new drug and apparently I'm the only one who has done the reading"

"You usually are" Shawn commented with a smile, "I'm gonna try and help with the case today"

Gus' eyes widened with the realisation and memory of the night before.

"Maybe Sherlock will leave you alone now then" Gus smiled, walking through to the bathroom to grab Shawn's pills.

Shawn accepted them with a sigh and quickly took his medication, putting the pills in his jacket pocket he needed for later. Gus could tell instantly that today was going to be a tough day for Shawn. Charlie was being held at West Haven again and now Gus was working he would have only his dad.

"Get your dad to ring me if you need me, okay. It's one meeting, I'll come meet you after" Gus promised, watching as Shawn twisted the medical bracelet on his wrist.

"No need to rush" Shawn replied to which Gus looked at him sceptically.

"I'm just nervous, I don't want to make a fool of myself " Shawn admitted.

Gus grinned, "You won't"

Shawn gave a shaky smile back, Gus sounded so confident, he truly believed in him. Gus found himself rushing around the compartment, he dressed in his suit and tie and collected different sets of notes from his desk. He had a quick shower and was surprised to find Shawn ready and waiting for him.

"I hope you realise I need a lift" Shawn reminded him grinning.

Gus let out a small laugh and nodded. He walked over to the shelf and grabbed his keys before looking at good watch again.

"You want me to drop you are the station or with your dad?" Guys asked as they left the apartment building to the car.

"Whichever is easiest" Shawn said simply.

Guys nodded unlocking the car.

Shawn sat in the front seat and put his seat belt on and began to look through the window at his surroundings. Gus made special effort to drive slowly but for once it didn't seem to matter. Shawn's attention was elsewhere, he was distracted. He couldn't wait to help on the case. It was only after the day before that he realised how much this had been weighing on his mind. He needed to solve this case. He had to. Shawn inwardly sighed to himself. Maybe it was bad for him to be solving cases at the station with his dad. But the sense of exhilaration quickly squashed that line of thinking. It seemed like only second later that Gus was pulling up outside the station and Shawn instantly got out, slightly surprised when Gus didn't.

"You alright going in by yourself?" Gus stated, his tone slightly pleading.

"Yeah sure" Shawn smiled, "I'll see you later, good luck for the meeting"

Gus smiled, "thanks, see you in a bit"

Just like that, Gus drove away. Shawn remained stood for a moment looking at the station. He could see a few officers about arriving with cups of coffee. No one had noticed him yet, he looked like a regular pedestrian. It struck him in that moment how easy it would be to run away. Though if he did, Gus would no doubt be blamed and besides he was meant to be fitting in to society, not running away like a mental patient off his meds.

Shawn walked around the building to the entrance and hesitantly pushed the door open. Despite the early hour, the station was busy. Officers were running about and detectives were pacing giving out orders.

"Excuse me?" Shawn asked, holding up his pass. "Can I?"

"Mr Spencer?!" The receptionist gasped, she seemed to falter for a moment but her expression quickly returned to a polite smile.

"Detective Aaron wasn't it?" Shawn asked politely, holding back the urge to punch the loud, talkative, annoying, gossiping officer.

She nodded, looking slightly uncertain.

"Can I go through? I'm meeting my dad"

"Yes, Feel free to head on through, you know the way right?"

"Thanks" Shawn nodded and walked away. He didn't like her. It took him minutes to find his father's desk and he took a seat and waited.

It was about thirty seconds after he had sat down that he became bored and he started tapping with his hand to try and distract himself. It didn't work. Then Shawn noticed the different files on his father's desk, noticing the most current one, Elliot Sawyers. His heart beat in his chest as he began to read the case file, absorbing the facts like a sponge. The first victim had been burnt alive, too badly burnt for any form of identification to be made and the second was currently in hospital after being found in a burning building. Both victims were women and Shawn knew that a third woman had been abducted. Buy why was he doing this?

"Shawn?!" Juliet exclaimed.

"Oh hey Juliet, how are you this morning?"

Juliet smiled, "I'm fine, how are you after yesterday?

Shawn's smile faltered, "Yeah I'm sorry about that"

Juliet smiled, "It's fine, Carlton often drives me insane too" She suddenly gasped as she realised the vocabulary she had chosen.

Fortunately Shawn laughed, "Carlton? I'll stick to Lassiter"

Juliet chucked, "Are you waiting for your dad?"

"Yeah" Shawn nodded, "we made up last night, he said he would let me help on the case"

Juliet's eyes widened, "so that's why he's speaking to the chief..."

Shawn smiled, "has he arrived then?"

"Yeah I saw him in the Chief's office a minute ago" she responded gesturing in the direction of the office.

Shawn smiled triumphantly; his father had been true to his word, this time.

It was seconds later when Henry appeared. Shawn saw him first and smiled as a greeting, causing Juliet to look round to see what had caught his attention.

"Morning Detective" Juliet greeted professionally.

"Henry please" he corrected for what seemed like the millionth time.

"Morning son" Henry then beamed, Juliet's eyes lit with amusement after seeing the excitement in his.

"Morning" Shawn smiled back.

"So where's Gus?" Henry questioned "I thought he would be with you"

"He was called into work this morning to present a seminar. I said it was fine and Charlie's at West Haven remember?"

"Oh yeah" Henry realised, a little daunted yet excited at spending the day with his son without some sort of supervision. He was a detective, was that not enough for Shawn to feel safe?

"So Shawn is joining us with the case?" Juliet asked.

"Yes" Henry smiled with excitement, finally something that they could properly bond over.

"That's good" Juliet remarked, "We have quite a few people working on the case at the moment already so a fresh pair of eyes should be good"

Shawn smiled uncertainly. Was that meant to be an insult? Was she genuinely happy to have him there or was she trying to suggest that there was already enough people working the case.

"Feel free to look through those files Shawn" Henry suggested, "That's everything we have on Sawyers"

"Carlton's just printing off the information collected on Emma Jameson, anything that could explain her being targeted." Juliet informed them both.

"Do we even know if this guy is targeting them in particular or just preying on innocent woman at nightclubs?" Henry grumbled, thoroughly frustrated at the situation.

"If we know who he is, surely it shouldn't be that difficult to catch him" Shawn commented, scanning all of the information.

Juliet sighed, "You'd think, but he's surprisingly good at keeping himself hidden"

"What happened yesterday when he was spotted?" Shawn asked.

"He was long gone by the time we got there" Juliet cursed.

Henry groaned and sat down on the seat next to the desk.

"Do you have the video survalliance?" Shawn asked, scanning the documents to see if he missed it.

"Yeah we do, it's hopeless though, we couldn't see where he takes her" Juliet replied, looking around for her partner who she thought should have been back by now.

Henry leant over and switched the screen of the computer on and gestured to the screen, "The footage is on here if you want to see".

Shawn looked at the footage and immediately began scanning the images displayed and began rewinding backwards.

Henry frowned and Juliet came closer to see what he was doing.

"That was the section where he took her" Juliet pointed out, as sensitively as she could.

Shawn didn't even blink, "I'm not looking for that. I'm looking for when he arrived to see if I can track where he came from"

Henry blinked and Juliet's mouth opened ever so slightly as if about to say something. She perched on the desk, her eyes glued to the screen.

Jackpot.

"That's him?" Shawn wanted confirmation.

Juliet nodded, "So he was in the nightclub for about an hour before he made his move, presumably to scope out his target"

Shawn slowly rewound the footage frame by frame to see Sawyers climbing out from a taxi.

"He arrived in a taxi" Juliet stated bluntly.

Henry jumped up, "We can track the company and track where he came from, good job Shawn"

Shawn frowned at the screen, there was something else. Something else they were missing. Yes, the taxi was a good lead but something seemed wrong, there was something else on the screen. Another person.

"He didn't arrive alone" Shawn stated. "There's someone in the front with the driver"

"What?" Juliet exclaimed.

"I don't see anyone?" Henry said quietly.

Shawn glanced at his father before sighing and enhancing the image.

Henry squinted at the screen. His son was right, The image was dark but you could just see the reflection of a pair of glasses in the reflection of the window.

"He has an accomplice?" Juliet realised out loud. "Maybe that is how he keeps escaping"

"What?" Lassiter arrived abruptly. "What's this about an accomplice?"

Juliet turned to face him, "We tracked the video survaliance backwards to see where he came from, there is another person in the taxi with him when he arrived"

"Good job partner" Lassiter praised her, refusing to look at Shawn.

"So are those Miss Jameson's files?" Juliet pointed at the papers in his hands.

Lassiter thrust them at her. "There's nothing special about her as far as I can see. The only links we can see is that they are all blonde and found at nightclub/bar"

Whilst they had this discussion Shawn simply stared at the photo, rewinding to try and view the best angle. It was definitely a pair of glasses but an accomplice. By looking at the height of the glasses Shawn deduced that whoever was sat in the seat was only a child, but how would that make sense?

Henry kept glancing between the pair of detectives and his son. He inwardly smiled to himself, this was going to work.

Shawn frowned, looking at the close up photograph of Sawyers. His eyes seemed to zoom in on his and he could make out the small rims around the iris. So he wore glasses as well….It was a long shot but…

"Do you still have officers at the hospital?" Shawn asked, thinking there was one way he could check his hunch.

Juliet nodded, "Of course, even if you thought there was low possibility that he would return to finish her off we have to keep her protected just in case"

Shawn frowned slightly, Lassiter noticing his expression huffed and walked away.

"How is she?" Shawn then asked.

Henry's eyes widened and then smiled smugly watching Juliet's shocked expression.

"Stable and last I heard she woke briefly last night" Juliet told him, "Which is miraculous if you think about it"

Shawn nodded, "Let's go dad"

"Where to?" Henry asked, Shawn was supposed to be following his lead afterall.

"I wanna see if I can speak to her" Shawn answered.

Henry frowned, "Are you sure?"

Henry remembered all too well what happened last time Shawn saw that woman. Shawn looked at his dad and seemed to follow his train of thought.

"Yeah, it won't be as bad as before I promise"

Henry wanted to just accept that but the image of Charlie knocking his son out with a needle played through his head.

"But," Henry paused, trying to figure out how to say it.

"If I get like that again you can yell like you did at dinner" Shawn smiled, "But it won't come to that, I'll keep it together this time"

Juliet watched the exchange quite confused but smiled as they smiled at each other having reached an agreement.

Juliet watched as they both left and walked over to the footage where Shawn had paused it and zoomed in on the number plate. It was time to do her part, she would find out where this taxi came from. She desperately hoped that her partner Lassiter would come up with a lead to find the new victim, neither of them wanted another woman to die, especially when they had the power to potentially prevent it.

Author note: Hope you enjoyed that chapter. I'll try and get another out for new year if I can.
