Reading it changes his life to the point where he decides to take up her cause as his own. A cause that leads him to someone else. Someone named Anna Smith.

Miss Sybil Branson has just turned nineteen and is returning to Downton Abbey with her father, Tom, to celebrate her birthday. While at Downton, she meets an old friend, whom she has always been fond of. However, unfortunate news has been announced: England is at war. Sybil, following in her mother's footsteps, becomes a nurse and also falls in love in the midst of war.

When John's daughter and Anna's son become friends at nursery school, they don't expect their lives to change forever.
