The crew got up and left the docks, heading north towards Main Street. Knowing it was going to be a lengthy trek without the monorail, Darius advised everyone to stock up with whatever they could find.
"There could be something in there that could help," Ryan suggested.
He led the group to a nearby parked truck with the Jurassic World logo embedded on either side. The back doors were held together with a chain and padlock.
"Any ideas, genius?" Kenji smugly asked.
Chris stepped forward, pulled out his utility knife, and lockpicked the lock. Both chain and lock clanged onto the ground.
"Wait, you guys can do that too?" Kenji asked shocked, looking towards Brooklynn.
"Yeah, my girlfriend showed me that video of getting locked outside your hotel room," Ryan answered. "She's a pretty big Brooklander."
Brooklynn couldn't help but giggle.
Ryan and Chris opened the doors, revealing some small pallets of water and juice bottles.
"This isn't gonna last us long," Yasmina noted.
"But enough until Main Street," Darius finished. "Take what you can, we'll need it."
Each camper took two bottles and placed them in their pockets. Chris and Ryan unzipped their backpacks and stored the rest.
The group formed a single file line, Darius and Kenji in front, Brooklynn and Sammy behind.
Once in the jungle, Ryan noticed that Yasmina was lagging behind everyone a little, walking with a limp.
Noticing, Ryan called out.
"Want a hand?" he asked, offering his hand.
"Thanks, but I'm fine," she assured.
Just to be sure, the two ACU recruits walked alongside her, keeping her company at the rear.
"What happened?" Chris asked.
Yasmina sighed.
"Fell from the zipline at Jurassic World Lagoon."
Chris shivered. "The Mosasaurus. I'm not a big fan of her."
"Trust me, we ain't either," Sammy added.
In front of the group, the bushes rustled and shook loudly.
Everyone froze, with Chris and Ryan leaving Yaz to move up towards Darius.
"Stay behind us," Ryan whispered to Darius.
Darius nodded, gesturing the campers to do the same.
Ryan and Chris reached down to their waists and activated electric prods, ready for a frontal ambush.
But instead, a juvenile ankylosaurus appeared. The campers immediately knew who this was.
"Bumpy!" they shouted in unison.
Bumpy ran past Ryan and Chris and towards the campers.
Just then, more rustling.
Ryan and Chris turned back, prods once again at the ready.
"Stop! Don't shock me!" a voice yelled.
Out of the bushes came a scrawny boy in a light blue shirt.
"Ben!"
Ryan and Chris walked over to help Ben up.
To everyone's shock, Kenji ran forward and hugged Ben tightly.
"I thought we lost you, man."
"Kenji, you're squeezing me," Ben gasped.
After filling in Ben on what had happened, Ryan and Chris ran over to check on Bumpy.
Immediately, they knew she was different.
"This ankylosaur…" Chris began as he inspected her body. "… she shouldn't be this size at this age."
The campers nodded.
"She hatched early," Brooklynn added.
"We were there when she hatched," Sammy said. "She could fit into Ben's hand and then when we saw her again, she was, like, the size of a baby calf on my family's ranch. It was amazin'!"
Ryan began to think. "How long was this gap in time between she hatched and you saw her at this size?"
"A day or two," Yaz answered.
"At this rate, she'll be a fully-grown adult by the end of the month."
"Oh yeah!" Kenji said with excitement. "We're gonna have our own battle tank! Imagine if we ride into battle on her against Toro!"
"I won't deny it, she could be a valuable asset to us," Ryan admitted.
"No, you're wrong," Ben corrected, walking over to pet Bumpy.
"Bumpy isn't an asset. She's a friend."
Ryan and Chris couldn't help but smile along with everyone else. Bumpy then place her head in Ben's arms, signaling that she wanted a good scratch.
