It was midday when the group finally reached Main Street. Other than the frequent announcement over the PA, it was dead silent. The entire area was wrecked and covered in trash.
"It looks like a warzone," Chris whispered.
"Stay here," Ryan instructed to the campers. "Chris and I will sweep and clear the area, to see if it's safe."
"What if Toro or the Indominus come?" Ben asked nervously.
"Scream, or shout, or something."
The campers nodded and gathered, looking around for threats.
"You ready?" Chris asked with a smile, straightening his ACU cap.
Ryan nodded.
They activated their prods and split, each taking either side of the street. They only took a few steps each before the speaker blared.
"Welcome to Jurassic World, the only place on the planet where you can truly relive history! Hungry? Head down to Winston's Steak House for a Juicy for some juicy T-Rex Ribs. Looking to beat the heat? Travel to Jamba Juice for a Stegosaurus Smoothie. Looking for a little souvenir or something for someone back home? Don't forget to check out the Jurassic Traders Gift Shop."
Ryan and Chris advanced through the shops, checking under every table, behind every counter, and backroom to make sure there weren't any unwelcome surprises.
Near the end of the road, Ryan noticed the body of a velociraptor lying on the ground.
"Chris!" he called. "I got a dead raptor here!"
"Same here!" Chris responded. When Ryan headed over to check, two more dead raptors were found.
Ryan turned towards the campers and gestured to come, indicating its safe.
"Jesus, what a mess," Ryan said.
"Whoa, what happened?" Yasmina asked.
Kenji, Brooklynn and Darius had uncomfortable looks on their faces, reminiscing about the night they snuck into the raptor enclosure.
"Interesting, there should be four, but we only found three," Ryan pointed out.
"Maybe she escaped. She could be out there, somewhere," Chris suggested.
Ryan groaned. "Where is Owen Grady when you need him?"
The campers looked at one another, worried that there may be another predator for them to be concerned with.
"Anyway, let's move," Ryan said, pointing to the Hammond Creation Lab.
Bumpy ran up the stairs first, followed by everyone else. When they reached the main doors, she began to fearfully whimper.
"What's going on with her?" Kenji asked.
Darius shushed him. "Listen," he whispered.
There was a faint hissing and roaring. And it was coming from inside the lab.
"Oh, yippee," Chris sarcastically remarked. "Again, everyone behind us."
Quietly but quickly, Ryan and Chris grabbed the handle of either door. Then suddenly, the doors were yanked open.
Ryan and Chris moved up, prods at the ready. The hissing and roaring grew louder.
Then, as they entered the main room, the source was revealed.
"Oh, my god. Really?" Ryan exclaimed, slightly annoyed but also relieved.
A holographic dilophosaurus stood at the center of the room, spreading its hood out and bared its teeth.
"It's nothing. Come on in, guys," Ryan assured while Chris went to turn the hologram off.
The teens entered, in awe of the many fascinating elements of the lab. While everyone took some time to look around, Ryan and Darius stood at the center.
"I think this will make a good base camp," Darius said. "It's defensible, sheltered, near the docks."
"Couldn't agree with you anymore, dino nerd," Ryan replied with a smile.
Ryan walked over to the center hologram projector. Accessing the system, he went through the different dino holograms. Allosaurus. Triceratops. Brachiosaurus.
Eventually he was able to activate the ankylosaurus hologram. It bellowed and walked around, and a male voice began to talk about the animal.
"The ankylosaurus was an herbivore during the Cretaceous period. Its defining features were its armor-plating and club-like tail. The entire head and top of the body were covered in protective bone, even the eyelids. The tail was strong enough to shatter bone."
Immediately, Bumpy left Ben's side and ran over to the hologram. She tried to get its attention, by any means: running around, calling loudly and even attempting to nuzzle it. But being a hologram, it ignored her, and Bumpy's efforts were in vain.
Everyone looked on with a sad expression. They loved Bumpy, but ultimately knew when rescue came, she would have to stay, and live with others of her kind.
Later that night, the campers gathered around the hologram projector. For dinner, they ate food from a refrigerator in the employee lounge, abandoned during the evacuation. Meanwhile, Bumpy was munching away or a tree branch found on the steps outside.
Everyone was talking and laughing, except for Ryan, who wasn't present.
"Where's your boyfriend, Chris?" Kenji asked teasingly before getting an elbow to the gut from Yasmina.
"Honestly, no idea. He's been gone for a while," Chris shrugged.
"Should someone go check on him?" Sammy suggested.
"No need, I'm right here."
Ryan appeared from the "employees only" section of the lab.
"I was snooping around the rest of the building, and found something I think you guys are gonna like."
Everyone stood up and gathered around. Ryan pulled out a tablet and played a video on it.
The video showed rather grainy footage of Main Street.
"This is security footage from yesterday," Ryan explained. "Keep watching."
Everyone's eyes focused. Suddenly, the Indominus suddenly shot into view.
The indominus was followed by a single velociraptor and tyrannosaurus rex. They seemed to be working together, driving the indominus towards the Jurassic World Lagoon. Also seen in the frame were a man, woman, and two boys. One looked like a teen and the other looked younger.
"Here she comes," Ryan excitedly said.
"What? Who?" Brooklynn asked.
Suddenly, the mosasaurus leapt from the water and latched onto the indominus with her jaws, dragging her to a watery grave.
Ryan then turned the tablet off.
"So, does that mean there's no more indominus?" Yasmina asked, sounding hopeful and relieved.
Ryan nodded with a grin.
