Chapter 3: An Exam to Remember
Takara was a little more than ecstatic, one might say enthusiastic, spontaneous, or even supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! She had been preparing for this day her whole life, her father was the famous hero Lemillion, who had lost his quirk in a battle to the death. However, it was a miracle that years later, Eri Aizawa, now known as the Medical Hero: Backtrack, had used her quirk to restore his power. After meeting her mother and having a few kids of their own, Mirio had started training them to carry on the family business.
That led Takara to where she stood today - the gates in front of the entrance exam for the prestigious UA High school. She had heard that the exam had changed quite a bit from when her parents went to UA. For example, when her dad had taken the exam he was fighting robots, but now, due to the suggestions of Mastermind and Eraser Head, the school now used students as half of the enemies for the examinees to fight.
Takara stretched out, waiting for the gate to open. To say she was nervous was an understatement. She was always filled with boundless energy, but underneath that excitement was nervousness. Living in the shadows of both her father and her brother, both giants in their fields, she was feeling insufficient oftentimes.
Takara didn't even hear Earphone Jack yell 'Start', and she was through the gate as it opened, thanks to her permeable form. She spotted her first target, a robot careening out of an alleyway. She activated her quirk, dropping through the ground and turning her quirk off, rocketing herself out of the ground. Her arm looped around the robot's neck and yanked it off the ground. In the air Takara leveraged her body, throwing the robot into the ground and shattering it.
She pivoted and faced down a student, she couldn't see the student's face behind the uniform mask that all the students wore for the exam, but she could tell that the student was quite nervous. Takara leaped towards the student, duplicating a move she had seen her father do many times before.
"Blinder Touch Eyeball Crush!" Takara yelled, feinting a jab at the students eyes, making them flinch as she clobbered them in the face.
Takara Togata
Quirk: Phasing
This quirk is an enhanced version of Permeation, allowing the user and anything they are touching to phase through objects.
"Sorry kid," Takara said, turning and running off towards another set of robots and students.
Reiji smashed another robot with his fist, the metal snapping underneath the force of his strike. Another was crushed by his reptilian maw, and a third punctured by his deadly stinger. His repressed anger came out with each attack. He couldn't say much good about UA, but he was dang glad that they used robots in this exam. He could really let out against them.
"AHHHH!" Reiji shouted with sharp teeth glinting in the sun, his eyes narrowing at the sight of a blonde girl phasing in and out of the ground and robots, despite her skill, Reiji instantly disliked her, "How is it fair that people like that exist?"
Reiji Kon
Quirk Name: Monstrosity
Essentially an alternate variation of Chimera, this gives the user various animal traits that carry with them the same abilities of said animal, such as a scorpion tail containing a minor venom capable of temporary paralysis. If the situation calls for it, the user can enter a more powerful monstrous state as "The Beast".
Another robot wheeled up behind Reiji, preparing to sneak an attack on the boy. Reiji spun around and bear hugged the machine, slamming his tail into the chest of it, puncturing it through to the other side.
Reji huffed, his scaly green snout open to the sky as he dropped the machine's carcass to the ground. His spotted arms hanging to his side as the scorpion tail that protruded from his back swayed side to side. His scaled avian feet shuffling as he looked around to the carnage laid out before him.
Then the ground rumbled, Reiji's acute senses picking up the source of the rumble. In a distant city block something was moving, and it was getting closer. Reiji turned, seeing the source of the movement, a giant robot pulled itself down the street. Reiji watched in awe as the massive machine plowed through buildings and chased dozens of examinees. Then something amazing happened, from the base of the robot thousands of vines erupted and entangled the machine. At the source of the vines Reiji made out a girl, her body a mass of vines, razor sharp blades and teeth. Reiji watched as she slowed the machine long enough to allow others to escape, and needless to say, Reiji was in awe.
This was turning into quite the unfair advantage to Reiji as he turned and sprinted off into the alleyways, making sure to snag some more points while the other students were distracted with the giant metal and vines advancing in the general direction.
A horned blonde traversed through the streets, holding one spiked horn on his right hand and another on his left. Looking around, he paused after seeing countless metal and human opponents lying on the hard ground, obviously defeated by some of the more capable students.
Huffing the hair plastered on his forehead, he crouched down, having had a few points earned as well. It wasn't enough to get him into the hero course, and Pestu wasn't gonna have that. He didn't want his mother and father nagging him about being a shut-in all his life. If he couldn't get into UA, then it'll just be harder to continue living as a NEET with his parents hanging around to tell him to better his life everyday.
"Heck if I ever let that crap happen! EVERYTHING I DO-!"
Standing upright, Pestu later threw both horns at another contestant who he could see hugging a metal pole far above a robot that waited for its victim to come down, hitting the student's head.
Pestu Monoma
Quirk: COPY and PASTE
The user can copy quirks via touch and can do so even with the smallest strand of hair. The user is also able to store a quirk inside their horns. A few applications allow this quirk to switch two peoples' quirks, if necessary. And don't worry, the horns always grow back to replace ones that had been shot.
"I DO TO LIVE MY LIFE AS AN ACCOMPLISHED NEET!" With an audible 'OWW!', the horned blonde felt his hands shift to two blades. He was a little confused as to why the student was hanging for his dear life when he had a quirk like this, but Pestu moved forward with determination in his steel blue eyes, hitting the blade right at the exposed wires on the robot's neck. The robot fell, sparks crackling as the student thanked him after getting down slowly. It was only then that the shut-in figured out why the student was rather helpless. The latter injured his arm and leg - seeing some bone sticking out of the bruised area, and as much as Pestu wanted to go on and secure more points for himself, he could tell that the injury was way worse than what he saw on the surface.
Cursing quietly, the horned blonde decided to help the other student find a robot medic.
Not long after that, a masked figure passed by him, stopping upon seeing him. Pestu didn't know if the opponent was going to go after them. Surprisingly, the masked individual was kind enough to help him get back to the gate where some of the professors were stationed.
Pestu was rather confused as he watched a giant robot clashing with some monstrous vines from the distance, but just as he tried to go back in, the timer had already sounded. He plopped down on the ground next to the other student he had previously helped, who was unconscious from his injuries, sighing.
"That went well…" He chuckled, pulling his phone out and attending to his 2D waifus while a rather nasty thought went through his head. "Meh… Guess the Hero Course isn't for a NEET like me…"
It wasn't long that a certain white haired, red-eyed woman arrived. Her looks were enough for Pestu to do a double take as he watched the woman take care of the injured teens. He found himself muttering, "That is one hot school nurse…"
Yo Shindo's night had started out as normal as any other, he bid his wife and daughters farewell before heading out for an evening patrol. Any good hero knew that night time was the best time for villainy. He patrolled the back alleys, knowing that many villains preferred to commit crimes away from the crowded streets.
He had changed quite a bit from his high school days, back then, he was rather two-faced and manipulative. He hadn't completely gotten rid of those flaws of his, but he had improved significantly. He was trying to be the best hero he could be, but he was only in the top hundreds.
Then an ear piercing shriek cut through the air. Yo turned down the alleyway he was patrolling, and at the end of the alley, he could make out a woman being attacked. Yo sent a vibration out of his hands to the ground, propelling him into the air.
Yo landed right next to the villain and punched him in the face. The villain was knocked back, staggering only for a second.
"Fool," The villain muttered, spitting out blood, his burning blue eyes piercing into Yo's soul. Yo felt his blood freeze, almost literally as the villain pulled back the sleeve of his shirt, sharpened blood breaking through his flesh, splattering Yo with the debris, "You should have just left me alone, then I wouldn't have to kill you."
"Who are you?" Yo called as he dodged out of the way, the bloody blades barely missing him. Yo pressed his hand on the villains back, knocking him away with a vibration. Yo turned around and pressed his hand against the ground, his vibrations shattering the ground and creating a difficult terrain.
"I am the coming storm," The villain declared, jumping from a shattered piece of ground to another, the new terrain failing to slow him. He swung his arm, the blades scratching Yo's skin as the hero dodged out of the way enough to avoid major damage, but then Yo's side felt cold. He looked down to see that the scratches had frozen over, his body seizing up as his body temperature dropped, "The burning light, the freezing darkness. I am the Alpha and the Omega."
"You're a monster," Yo spat out, holding his side as he collapsed to the ground, his blood freezing.
"I suppose I am," The man looked to his bloody arm, "Perhaps I should show you some mercy." His blood soaked arm came close to Yo's chest, the cold flowing out from it, and Yo's breathing slowed as he felt the blood his heart was pumping freeze. He tried to speak, but there was no blood to supply movement, and his eyes grew wide as he tried to breathe, but nothing happened. He fell over and died, his eyes filled with regret and longing.
"I'm sorry... I truly am," The villain closed his eyes, turning to the girl who had only watched as this happened, "But I have more pressing business."
