Chapter 4: Moving In
The UA dorms. It was rather exciting for Toshi. He had gotten into UA just as he had hoped with his entrance exam being a success. Now all that remained was moving in and getting to know everyone. It wasn't all good though. The news that Pro Hero Grand had been murdered recently was still fresh in the minds of everyone. Toshi couldn't fathom a hero that powerful being defeated. It just didn't seem possible.
"Hey Toshi!" Cried Himari as she ran up beside her friend. Toshi turned to her and smiled, pleased that she had also gotten into UA. She wasn't alone in that regard.
"My main man Toshi! The gang's staying together!" Whooped Takara as she ran up and swung her arms around the pair's necks. She pulled them in tight and the three laughed; after Toshi and Himari almost fell over that is.
"Good to see you too Takara. I'm pleased we all made it," Toshi chuckled before stretching out and walking towards the dorm doors with the two girls, "After you."
Toshi opened the door and Takara immediately went about teasing him, "Oh my! What a gentleman. You really know your way around the ladies." She put on a posh voice to top it all off and Toshi became rather flustered by the comment.
"Like a man after our hearts," Agreed Himari jokingly. Toshi blushed at that one.
"I'll say."
Toshi suddenly froze at the new voice. It sounded distinctively familiar. In fact it sounded really familiar. It was a voice he hadn't heard in 4 years.
"No way," He muttered. He received confused looks from his two friends before swiftly turning around and growing ecstatic at who he saw.
"Yo Toshi. Been a while hasn't it?" The boy said as he held his bag over his shoulder with one hand and gave a small wave with the other. He had set his suitcase down by his feet.
The boy had brown-blond coloured hair which was styled as an undercut. His eyes were large and round with a warm brown colour. He was fair-skinned. He was well-built but slim and was around about 6ft tall. He was wearing navy blue jeans, white and blue trainers, a blue t-shirt and a black, white and pink jacket which was coincidentally the colour palette of his mother's costume.
Toshi had only one reaction.
"Kenji! You got into UA?! It's so good to see you!" He dropped his things and made his way over to Kenji who did the same thing. The two boys embraced each other with a hug and smile. When they split, Kenji ran his right hand through his hair and laughed.
"Should've known you'd get in. We did promise to go to UA together when we were kids, remember?" He asked. It was a rhetorical question for they both knew what the answer was going to be.
"How could I forget?" Toshi smiled before the two fist bumped. Toshi then turned to Takara and Himari who were approaching the reunion.
"Is this who I think it is Toshi?" Asked Himari, who received a nod immediately. Takara got up rather close in Kenji's face, slightly unnerving him, and looked him up and down while rubbing her chin. When she had reached the end of her analysis she beamed, stood up straight and held out her hand for Kenji to shake.
"Takara Togata. Pleasure to meet you Kenji uh... Who're your parents?" Ahe asked somewhat embarrassedly. Kenji laughed before taking her hand and shaking it.
"Kenji Carter-Uraraka."
"Carter-Uraraka? What's that supposed to mean?" Asked Himari before realising the other meaning of that question, "I didn't mean for that to sound rude!"
"Don't worry about it," Kenji smiled. He held the back of his head and scratched it, "My dad's from the United Kingdom. His name's Luca Carter. You may have heard of him. He goes by the hero name 'Overcharge'." The name was received by two blank stares. Toshi nervously chuckled since he was the only one out of the three who had met Kenji's father.
"Sorry. Haven't heard of him before," Himari admitted apologetically. Kenji waved his hands out in front of him.
"Don't apologise! I didn't expect you to really. Obviously I needn't explain who my mum is right?" He asked, to which Takara and Himari agreed.
"What's it like having Uravity as your mum?" Asked Takara enthusiastically.
"Pretty cool actually. She's a really nice person and is an amazing hero. Both my parents are though in fairness. I look up to them," Kenji said rather proudly. He then shrugged, "Besides if she wasn't my mum I never would've got to grow up with Candy Floss over here." He gestured to Toshi with his thumb and smirked.
"Really? Still using that nickname?" Toshi rolled his eyes with a smirk.
"Oh come on. It could be way worse. Did you want me to start calling you Nejire Junior or something?" Kenji's sly comment had the desired effect and Toshi reacted.
"You know what? Candy Floss is fine!" Everyone laughed, including him.
"Well you know about me so why don't you tell me about you. Takara's got her introduction out of the way. What's your name?" Kenji asked Himari as he held out his hand. Himari graciously took it.
"Himari Amajiki. Pleasure to meet you Kenji-kun." Himari introduced herself. Kenji smiled before immediately sending Toshi a knowing glance that said 'I like her.' Toshi opened his mouth to respond but nothing came out to which Kenji laughed at. Himari somehow missed what was going on as did Takara.
"What seems to be the matter?" She asked.
"Oh nothing. Just a little fun between old friends," Kenji lied as he calmed down. This explanation seemed to do the trick for Takara and Himari, although the latter wasn't entirely convinced. Kenji then let go of Himari's hand, "And by the way, call me Kenji. I insist."
"Okay introductions are out of the way. Let's go in already," Complained Takara which elicited a laugh from her companions.
"Yeah let's. Kenji and I need to catch up," said Toshi as the mentioned boy picked up his bag and took a hold of his suitcase handle. He gave a nod and the four made their way back towards the door; Kenji and Toshi at the back.
Kenji's face then darkened slightly and he began to talk loud enough for only Toshi to hear.
"It's still happening isn't it?" He whispered. Toshi knew what he was referring to instantly and gave a slow and sad nod.
"How did you know?" he asked quietly. Kenji gave a sympathetic look before replying.
"I can see it in your eyes. You still have nightmares. We grew up together so we can just instinctively tell when something is wrong with each other," He revealed. However, to cheer up his long time best friend, Kenji swung his left arm around Toshi's neck and stopped the two in their tracks. Toshi looked at him in confusion.
"We always had each other's back when we were younger so don't expect that to change. Those four years were hard not seeing you but were probably harder for you. Luckily it seems you made some new friends," Kenji gestured to Takara and Himari who were talking passionately about their future as heroes in training. Toshi couldn't help but smile.
"Yeah you're right."
"I'm not going to get in the way of what you three have. I know where I stand, but believe me I'm always going to be here for you and we're always going to be friends." Kenji held his fist out for Toshi who looked at it, "Deal?"
Toshi smiled and nodded before fist bumping with Kenji, "Deal." Then a mischievous smile crept over Kenji's face. A smile that slightly worried Toshi.
"Besides someone will have to keep you in check with your occasional bluntness," He remarked before a mischievous sparkle manifested in his eyes, "Plus it looks like you're going to need a wingman for the coming months." Toshi immediately blushed while Kenji burst into hysterics.
"You two coming or not?!" Cried Takara. The two girls had reached the door and she was holding it open for the two boys.
"Ye…yeah! On our way." Toshi began to jog on over, but not before muttering something to Kenji.
"I'll get you back for that."
"Is that a challenge?"
The two smiled and Kenji slowly walked in after them.
He had his best friend back in his life.
Boy was he going to keep it that way.
Shusa was happy and all to be at UA, but it's not like he felt he deserved it as some of the others he saw during the Entrance Exam. Those kids had some serious firepower.
Shusa entered the front gate of the school, it's towering figure imposing. The campus was sprawling, and he didn't have an easy time finding the dorms, but eventually he pulled it off. While the school may have called them dorms, they were more like a hotel than anything else.
"This place is seriously impressive… I don't know how my parents just lived here for a few years." He began his trek inside when he saw a few of his future classmates just standing around, talking amongst each other. He decided to just walk past them and up to his room. He didn't really have a lot to unpack, but it would be better to just get it done now and not worry too much about it later.
After a few minutes he unpacked his workout equipment, his electronics, and every other essential he had. Shusa plopped down on his bed after finishing and just got on his phone to pass more of the time. That was, until he heard a loud thump in the other room.
"What the heck was that…?" Shusa waited for a while to see if there's another thump, but it wouldn't come, so he just got back on his phone. There was another much louder thump.
"I should probably go check on my neighbor. I pray he's not out cold or something."
Shusa got out of his bed and walked to the other room. He slowly knocked on the door. He didn't quite know what to expect, but when he opened the door he was face to face with a skinny guy his age with long blond hair. He had bruises and bandaids all over his body a small scratch on his forehead was bleeding.
"Oh, hey there! I hope I didn't worry you there!" The blond chuckled as he stood himself up, but Shusa couldn't look down from the blood on his head.
"Um… are you ok there?" Shusa asked, the blond teen looked at his with a confused expression until he put his hand to his head and realized he was bleeding.
"Oh! Yea, I'm totally fine!" The boy assured, however, Shusa continued to just stare at the teen.
"Looks like it." Shusa's voice layered with sarcasm
"If you don't trust me, you can always hit me to prove it!" The teen pulled up his fists with an excited expression as Shusa started to slowly back up.
"I-I'm good. So… do you need any help? My stuff was pretty small and uninteresting, I could totally help you finish up." Shusa offered, the blond teen smiled and grabbed his arm.
"That'd be great, I got a little distracted when I unpacked my training machine!" Shusa got dragged into the room, where there were piles on piles of boxes. The only thing out was a mechanical boxing machine in the corner.
"Oh, that's a neat way to train. You learn to dodge and punch at the same time!" the blond teen looked at him like an alien.
"Dodging?"
"Yea? What else could you use that for?" Shusa asked, confused about the comment. The blond teen smiled as he walked over to the machine and turned it on. The machine started rapid punching him. He didn't try to dodge a single hit as it continued to pumble him.
"What the heck…" Shusa unplugged the boxer. He looked to the blond teen to see his face was extremely bruised.
"What'cha think neighbor?" The blond groaned through swollen lips, Shusa continued to cringe at his beaten face.
"Well, you can definitely take hits better than I can." Shusa got up and grabbed one of his boxes.
"Do you want to punch me now then?"
"I'll only hit you if you help me unpack your stuff quicker." Shusa stated, the blond teen nodded as he pulled out one of his boxes and ripped it open. Shusa watched him tear through the boxes with his bare hands like it was toilet paper, and it was a sight that might make it hard for him to sleep tonight.
"D-doing great n-neighbor." Shusa was stuck in that room as they continued to unpack his stuff. After a while, he noticed his neighbor losing steam, then he started punching himself in the face until he got back to full attention and started tearing through more and more boxes.
Not long after, the whole room wasn't covered in boxes, but just the blond boy's stuff. Said boy turned to the tired Shusa and grabbed his arm.
"Alright, your end of the deal! Hit me with all you got!" Shusa pulled back from the other boy, annoyed.
"Oh great, I really wanted to end the night with punching my new classmate" Shusa rolled his eyes, the blond boy smiled wide as he put his face out.
"Now you get it! Put all you got into it!" Shusa looked down at his fist and groaned. Should he really hit the first person he hit? He looked up at the smiling student, he REALLY wanted him to do it…
Shusa pulled back his fist, if the other kid wanted him to hit him, it should be fine...
"Just know my fist probably won't be as strong as you're wanting…" He was going to regret this later.
Shusa decked the thin boy in the face, surprising enough, the boy fell to the ground after that hit.
"Woah! That was a good clean hit! Give me another!" Shusa took a lot less convincing this time as he threw another fist at the teen. Then another. Then another. Before long, Shusa was going to town on his new neighbor. He continued to hit his classmate in a frenzy until he heard a knock at the door.
Shusa got out of his slight trance to look down at the severely bruised student. He was smiling ear to ear as he began to grow slightly. Shusa started freaking out at the bruised classmate as he softly shook the other kid.
"Come on man… I didn't mean to go that hard!" Shusa continued to shake the happy student until he opened his eyes to Shusa.
"Shusa… that was great! You really know how to go out on someone!" The kid got up and started shaking Shusa.
"Come back into my room anytime, that was great! Hey, what's your name? I want to be able to call you over whenever I need a good hitting." Shusa scratched the back of his head awkwardly. He couldn't believe he just took that and was happy about it…
"I'm Shusa Tetsutetsu-tokage. I would say it's nice to meet you too." Shusa introduced, the much taller boy shook his hand.
"I'm Itami Toyomitsu! I hope we fight again in the future!" Itami continued to shake his hand until he heard the knocking again. Itami frowned as he grabbed Shusa and walked towards the door. He opened it and sent Shusa back to his room. Shusa looked down awkwardly to avoid the looks of the other boy, as the boy could easily see Itami's bloody, beaten face.
Not the best way for him to start off his school year… Hopefully he didn't deal with Itami too much from now on.
Putting the last book into place, Yumi stepped back and took a look at her bookshelf. She was proud of the job she had done, it was the first time she had lived away from home. Yumi was rather excited though, she couldn't wait to meet the rest of her class and make new friends.
She looked around her room, it was rather simple, not that she minded, it was more filled than what her parents lived in, but she did have her collection of MMA movies, it was her guilty pleasure. The rest of her room was decorated simply for a girl her age, a notable exception being the punching bag she had set up in the corner.
She took a deep breath in and found the bathroom, after cleaning herself up a commotion from the common room caught her attention. Finding her way to the main area of the school's dorms was fairly easy, and she was greeted with an unusual sight.
A boy with dark pink hair was being held back by a boy with sparkling blue hair and a girl with dark maroon hair, she could tell he was the one who had caused the commotion. Opposite him was a purple haired girl, her face covered in a bright blush.
"Let me go! Let me get her!" The boy shouted, his eyes wide as he tried to break out of the other two's grip, "That perv was snooping around my room!"
"It's not like that I swear!" Betatsu defended, trying to hide behind a piece of furniture, "I just thought it was my room."
"Your room?" The pink haired boy shouted again, "Your room? That was the boys side of the dorm!"
"Maybe I got a bit lost," The purple haired girl nervously pressed her fingers together, "I didn't mean anything by it, I'm real sorry." Splaying her hands out in front of her she tried her best to appologize.
"Why I outta!" The boy started again.
"Calm down Yoshizawa-san," The sparkly haired boy calmed, the peaceful look on his face helping to calm his pink haired captive.
"She apologized," The maroon haired girl added, shaking her head in disappointment, "Just let bygones be bygones."
"You believe that bullcrap story?!" The boy shouted again, Yumi could tell he was aching to use his quirk to get out of his predicament, "She's obviously lying!"
"Yoshizawa-san?" Yumi stepped in, putting her hands on his shoulders and smiled at him, "I'm sure if she promises that she won't do it again, she won't and it won't be a problem right?"
"Yeah, I promise!" The purple haired girl squeaked out from her hiding space behind the couch, "It really was an accident, it won't happen again, promise!"
"Tch, whatever." Yoshizawa, which was what she assumed his surname was, turned and walked away, seemingly having calmed down in a second, "Just don't let it happen again."
"Geeze, you were a real lifesaver there," The maroon haired girl stated, rubbing the bridge of her nose, "I just hope that isn't foreshadowing the rest of the year." She looked at Yumi and held out her hand to shake, then she noticed Yumi's arms and pulled back, "Sorry, I'm Akari Yukimura."
"It's no problem that happens all the time," Yumi held up her hand and spread her fingers wide, the three attached limbs coming up at the same time and mimicking the movement, "I'm Yumi Shoji, you've probably heard about my parents."
"Tentacole and Power Fist," The sparkly haired boy spoke up, his eyes filling with wonder and awe, "That's so cool, they may not be the highest ranked heroes, but they both have impressive reputations, I'm sure you learned lots of cool techniques from them."
"Yeah I guess so," Yumi blushed a bit, she wasn't used to getting so much attention, much less from people she barely knew, "What's your name?"
"Oh, I'm Toshinori Midoriya," Toshi replied, nervously blushing a bit, "Sorry I forgot to tell you, but you can just call me Toshi."
"Midoriya?" Akari balked, taking a step back in shock, "Like the number one's son?"
"Yeah…" Toshi's eyes suddenly became downcast.
"Wait a minute! I recognize you, you're the guy from the beach!" Betatsu screamed, pointing at Toshi.
"I'm sorry what?" Toshi asked, the gloomy look on his face suddenly replaced by confusion, "Do I know you?"
"Oops! Sorry thought you were someone else," Betatsu somehow blanched and blushed beet red at the same time, "I'm Betatsu Mineta, Nice to meet you... every last bit of you..." Betatsu stood up straight and chuckled "I meant every last one of you! Yep!" She bowed and hightailed it out of there, likely suffering from embarrassment.
"So do either of you need help finishing unpacking?" Yumi offered, looking rather excited at the prospect of helping others, "I had just finished mine when I heard the racket."
"I'm good," Akari shook her head, avoiding eye contact with Toshi, "I'll take care of it on my own, thanks though." She covered her mouth as she scampered off, leaving the other two.
"Sure I could use the help," Toshi chuckled, shoving his hands into the pocket of his Red Riot hoodie, "Yoshizawa-san's my neighbor, and well you can imagine why I had to stop."
"Yeah, so tell me what it's like with heroes like that as your parents?" Yumi asked, Toshi chuckled as he responded, telling her all about his mother as they went to his room.
