The group grabbed their gear and left for the nearest hotel. It was a short walk down Main Street. Besides a flock of pteranadons soaring overhead, it was quiet and empty.
They entered the lobby. Unlike outside, which was chaotic and wild, the interior was calm and clean.
The group split up to hopefully search for keycards. After a few minutes, Kenji came out from a back office holding three, two for rooms and one for the back kitchen, which the gang knew would be important later.
The elevator opened and everyone stepped in. Soft music played as it climbed in altitude before letting out a ding.
"Twenty-first floor," a female voice announced.
After unlocking the doors, Ryan said, "alright, we'll split in half and take two rooms. Clean up, shower, rest and when it's dinner time, we'll head to the restaurant downstairs."
Ryan, Chris, Yasmina and Sammy took the room on the left, while Darius, Brooklynn, Kenji and Ben entered the right room, Bumpy following behind.
"Alright, if anyone has no issues, I'm showering first," Chris announced as he closed the bathroom door behind him.
Ryan poured himself a glass of water from the refrigerator while looking out over the balcony. Sammy and Yasmina began to converse.
"Hey," Yaz began. "I'm sorry," she exhaled. "How I treated you over the past couple days. I was just so angry, y'know?"
"Yeah, I didn't mean no harm," Sammy said, still feeling guilty of her dishonesty. "I was jus' trynna save my family, is all."
"Well, it's water under the bridge now." Yasmina opened her arms, and the two girls hugged with grins.
"By the way, I see the way you look at Chris," Yaz whispered into Sammy's ear.
Sammy blushed. "Wh-what are you talking about?"
"Oh, nothing. All I'll say is that he will be mine, and you'll have to bring your A-game if you want him." She got up from her chair and winked as she joined Ryan.
"Is your ankle alright?" Ryan asked, noticing the athletic teen walking up on him.
She nodded. "Yeah, thankfully I think it's just twisted and not broken. With some rest, I should be okay."
Ryan reached into his vest and pulled a photo from his vest. It wasn't Chris and his war buddies, but a selfie of himself with a Caucasian brunette. They both wore tank tops, shorts and flip flops at a beach on the island. She stood behind him as her arms were wrapped around his neck and she gave him a kiss on his cheek.
"You have someone waiting back home?" Yaz asked.
"Her," Ryan replied, pointing to the brunette.
"That's my girlfriend, Shannon. We met here when I was hired by Masrani. She was a waitress that worked at a restaurant Chris and I frequented after work. The first time she took our order, she also took my breath away. Eventually, I got the courage to ask her out and the rest is history."
"Awww," Yaz remarked. "Is she okay?"
"Yeah, the last text I got from her was that she got on one of the boats."
He tightly clenched his glass of water.
"Damn it. She's probably worried sick. But what can you do, right?" Ryan turned towards Yaz.
The bathroom door opened. Steam poured before revealing a shirtless Chris. Both Yasmina and Sammy appeared in a trance.
Ryan sipped his water and looked back towards the view.
Meanwhile, in the other room, Ben and Kenji were helping to clean Bumpy in the bathtub. Her clublike tail constantly whacked the sides of the tub, before striking Kenji. The rich Asian let out a loud yelp.
"Ben, hold her steady!" he angrily ordered.
"I'm trying! It's not easy containing her, you know!" Ben snarled.
"Will they ever get along?" Darius asked Brooklynn, clearly exhausted with their bickering. She shrugged and shook her head.
"One thing I do know is that they bicker like an old married couple. They'd be perfect for each other."
Darius laughed loudly. Brooklynn came over to his side and sat down next to him.
"That's the first time in a long time I've heard you laugh, Darius."
"Well, I'm just trying to not give up and keep on going. How are you holding up?"
"Hmm… well, I guess I'm good if I'm not trying to be eaten, like, every ten seconds."
"Well, don't worry. I'll protect you if any mean bad dinosaur tries to have you for lunch."
"Hmm. I like that." Brooklynn grabbed Darius' face and the two embraced in a kiss.
When the sun began to set, the group met at the restaurant on the ground floor.
Kenji took the restaurant keycard and opened the door. The smell of food immediately overwhelmed everyone, causing them to run to a buffet table set of across from the restaurant.
Everyone filled their plates to the brim with all different types of food: chicken, mash potatoes, corn, steaks, garlic bread, pasta, you name it. Bumpy had a bowl of salad.
It was quiet; nobody talked because they were busy stuffing their faces. The sounds of chewing filled the air until the power went off. The lights went out. Everything became black.
"Uh… what's going on?" Kenji nervously stammered, dropping a drumstick.
"Damn it. The backup auxiliary power must've gone out. But it's supposed to last for another couple weeks…" Ryan said.
Chris checked his smart watch. He changed his screen so that it showed an overview of the island's electrical grid. Almost simultaneously, the doors, gates and paddocks opened. Every single one.
The crew watched helplessly as the doors to the restaurant and hotel lobby unlocked in front of them.
"The smell of food is bound to attract unwanted attention. We need to take what we can and run back to our rooms," Darius said.
"I… I think it's too late for that," Yasmina whispered. She pointed to a large shadow outside of the hotel, her finger shaking.
An allosaurus walked up to the door. Sniffing the air, it smelled the scent of food, as well as the campers.
Turning its head, it was able to smash through a large window and entered the lobby. It then began to pace back and forth in front of the restaurant, growling all the while.
"Don't you two have any weapons?!" Brooklynn yelled.
Ryan shook his head. "We left them back upstairs!"
"This is gonna be interesting," Chris said to himself as the Allosaur charged the restaurant's glass wall.
