Chapter 5: Getting to know each other
Katsumi
The first official day of school rolled around, and needless to say she was excited. She had moved her stuff in the day before and even talked to some of her classmates, but this would be the first time they all gathered together as a class and did stuff together. She had gotten up early and dressed in the signature uniform of UA.
She found her way to the classroom, the ridiculously large door of Class 1A was infamous, she had heard all about it from her uncle, the current Ingenium. She stepped through the infamous door and into her classroom, the first thing she noticed were the number of seats, twenty four, it was an odd number for a class size, but she had heard that they were increasing the class sizes to allow for more potential heroes.
Only one other student was already there, a girl with dark maroon hair, she looked very professional and proper. Katsumi checked the seating chart, finding her spot right at the front near the door, only one seat in front of her. She took her seat and got her things in order as students started filing into class, despite the world she lived in, Katsumi was always impressed by the wide variety of appearances that people had, she noted a boy with sparkling blue hair, a girl who's body seemed to made of vines and then the mountain of a boy that sat in front of her. He easily had the most unique appearance of anyone in the class, with a crocodile head, scorpion tail and bird's legs. She kinda wished she was in front of him, she could barely see over his shoulder.
"Hello everyone kero," A voice echoed in the classroom drawing everyone's attention to the front, it was a fan favorite pro hero, Froppy. She wore a costume similar to what she did in her school days with only a few improvements, "I'm Tsuyu Asui, your homeroom teacher. Kero." She cocked her head to the side.
The class shut up as she pulled out a stack of paper, "This is the beginning of the first year of your hero training, I'll be overseeing all your general activities and making sure that you do your best." She sighed as she looked at the roll, "Many of you have parents that are heroes, don't think that I'll coddle you. Kero. I won't. In fact I will push you further than you've been pushed before."
"Now let me introduce your Heroics Instructor," She gestured to the door, and a shirtless muscular man threw the door open, his spiky red hair a signature part of his look, "Ejiro Kirishima, Pro Hero: Red Riot."
"Thanks for that manly introduction Tsu!" Red Riot slammed his fists together, the hardened skin throwing up sparks, "I'm your Heroics Instructor! I'll be watching over you guys as you do your hero training, I may not look like it, but I have lots of experience to offer you guys!"
"Quiet down Kirishima-kun," Froppy calmed, her soothing persona calming him down.
"Sorry about that guys," Red Riot rubbed the back of his head, "I just got a bit excited, well I'll be seeing you, I've got to go say 'Hi' to Class 1B, see ya tomorrow." He waved as he left the room, the class turned their attention to their teacher.
"The rest of the day will be divided up between an assembly and time for you to get to know each other in class." Froppy instructed as she checked the roll again, "Line up and head to the auditorium, the principal is ready for you all."
Katsumi was the first up, she couldn't wait for the assembly, she had heard rumors about the principal and wanted to see him in person. The class lined up in the order they were assigned to sit, with her at the front with the crocodile headed boy in front of her.
"Hey, I'm Katsumi Iida, what's your name?" She tapped his shoulder, getting the boys attention.
"Huh?" He looked at Katsumi, the blue haired girl's smile catching him off guard, "Reiji Kon." He scoffed.
"Nice to meet ya Reiji," She replied, his lack of a response elicited another from her, "Not much for talking are ya?"
"Hmph," He grunted, ignoring her.
Katsumi knew when someone wanted to talk and when someone didn't, and boy, Reiji did not want to talk. She gave up on talking with him, he wasn't worth her effort. Katsumi stayed quiet as the class finished their walk to the auditorium. Taking their seats she looked around seeing that all the classes for their year had filled all the seats.
Then the lights turned off as the principal walked up to the podium, he was a skeletal man with a dandelion like head of hair, his blue eyes sunken into his head. He gripped the podium, and leaned into the microphone. It was none other than the former Number One Hero: All Might.
"Greetings everyone," He smiled, his age was clearly getting to him, but the smile was still as bright as ever, "I'm Toshinori Yagi, you know me as All Might. You are the best of the best, you are the smartest and strongest out there, and as such you're the best students in the country. To help with this, I have asked the top scoring students from each course to speak. We'll start with our prestigious Hero Course, introducing Toshinori Midoriya!"
Toshi
Toshi was nervous as he stood in front of the whole school, it was really a nerve wracking experience. He didn't like the spotlight that had been put on him though, it was completely unnecessary.
"Greetings everyone," Toshi started off, he checked what he had written, making sure he was saying everything properly, "As you heard I'm Toshinori Midoriya, and yes my Deku is my dad." He grimaced through that part, he hated talking about his father, "I want you all to know that I tried my very hardest on the entrance exam, and that if you did too you could have been standing in this very place." Toshi looked out amongst the crowd, he instantly saw some faces looking at him with disdain, some coming from his class even.
"But rankings don't matter," Toshi gulped nervously, he pulled at the collar of his shirt, the lights beating down on him were making him hot, "It's just a quantified number that tells us where we stand, those at the bottom are no worse than those at the top. We are all heroes here, we all have a chance to change what the world has dealt us."
"Boo!" A voice from the large audience cried out, quickly being shushed by their teacher, but Toshi still got it, he didn't understand, did he say something wrong?
"We can-" He stopped mid sentence, he could see more faces hating on him, was it just his heritage, it wasn't like he did anything wrong, it wasn't like he asked to be the Number One Hero's son, "We can-"
"Boo!" The boy shouted again, cutting Toshi off. The sparkly haired boy stopped speaking, his face dropped to the ground. He pulled at his collar again, the heat bothering him.
"Plus Ultra," Toshi raised his fist and gave a fake smile, "See you around." He turned and hurried his way off the stage, past All Might and back to his seat. The girl behind him placed her hand on his shoulder.
"Hey are you OK?" She asked, her amber eyes glowing with concern.
"I'm fine," Toshi brushed her off, turning his attention back to the podium.
"Thank you for that very rousing speech from Class 1A's Toshinori Midoriya!" All Might announced, his eyes darting to Toshi, "Now we will hear from Class 1C's Henkei Senmei!"
The General Studies section exploded into applause as a girl walked up to the podium. She had completely translucent skin, her bones, muscles and organs visible to everyone, on her head she had a small pair of horns, and her red hair stood out against the rest of her body.
"HIII~" She waved towards everyone, it instantly became apparent that she had a personality that would make anyone be her friend, and Toshi was thankful for that, she helped put him at ease, "Wow, I can't believe it, I can't believe that I'm standing here in front of all of you. It seems like only yesterday I took the entrance exam and failed completely, luckily I applied for General Studies huh~?"
Then Toshi recognized her, she was in the same exam area as him. He couldn't remember everything about her exactly, but he knew she did fairly well, it was honestly a surprise she didn't make it into the hero course.
"Well I just wanna let you all know that I may have lost in the entrance exam," She began twirling a hair between her translucent fingers, "But I'll be coming for you hero course people in the sports festival, just you get ready for that~!" She bowed and quickly left the General Studies area loudly applauding, taking her seat again as All Might returned to speak.
"What a vote of confidence from such a remarkable young girl," All Might added to the applause she had received, "Now from the Support Course, Kananori Kenjin!" He gestured to a girl wearing a haori instead of the usual school uniform, she walked up to the podium to reveal she had six arms and eight eyes.
"Hello my fellow students," She gave a very flamboyant bow and turned her attention to the crowd, "Unlike the two before me, I so humbly decided to enter the support course, and trust me you want it that way." She pulled out a sketchbook and quickly started flipping through designs showing off her work, "This is only a small example of what I can offer to this school, in fact they were so impressed with my work that I got to work on some of your costumes before I even entered here. Trust me, it's a good thing that I did, some of those designs, were so TRAGIC!"
"Well that's it dearies," She bowed, her golden braid flopping as she did so, "See you later!" She blew a kiss into the crowd finding her space in her class.
"Just as eccentric as you'd expect from the Support Course," All Might added before turning his attention to the Business Course, "Finally from our Business Course, Noko Shoda!"
A pudgy boy with blue hair made his way up to the stands, the look on his face let people know he meant business, "Let me set things straight, of the Hero Course students, only about half of you are going to be successful, only one or two from this General Studies course will successfully transfer courses to the Hero Course, most of you from the Support Course will end up working for someone else, and of course I'm going to be the only one from the Business Course to actually do anything with their life, so all of you want actual success, come to me." He turned and left, leaving students and teachers alike dumbfounded.
"Give it up for the Business Course?" All Might asked, eliciting only a few claps from equally enthusiastic Business students, "All right, return to your classrooms and spend the rest of the day getting to know each other."
Saori
Saori looked at the sparkly haired boy in front of her, she didn't like how he looked after his speech. His eyes were filled with hurt, something that she didn't want anyone to deal with. She tapped him on his shoulder, he turned to her, his eyes were happier again, but something was still off about him.
"So you're dad's Deku?" She asked, trying to make light of the conversation, "That's gotta be pretty cool right?"
"Yeah, I guess," Toshi sighed, looking away, his eyes falling slightly, "I don't like talking about it."
"Oh, I totally get it," Saori laughed, slapping Toshi on the back, "I get compared to my dad all the time, we've got the same quirk afterall."
"Oh really? Who's your dad?" He turned to look at her, his eyes having brightened up significantly, "I'm assuming he's a pro hero."
"Yep, my dad's the one and only Chargebolt," She gloated, puffing out her chest, excited at the prospect of bragging about her father.
"Wow that's so cool!" Toshi's eyes brightened as he pulled out his notebook and began furiously taking notes, "That means you should have an easier time using your quirk than if you had your own unique one."
"Why's that?" Saori remarked, surprised that he was making such an in depth analysis of her quirk.
"If you have the same quirk as him, then it must mean you have the strengths and weaknesses, all of his training can apply to you as well." Toshi pointed out, nibbling on the end of his pencil between notes, he looked up noticing the look on her face, "Oh, sorry I geek out sometimes."
"Are you giving my buddy a hard time?" Another boy walked up, he had brown hair cut in an undercut, "Cause I'm the only one allowed to do that."
"Eh? Kenji?" Toshi looked at his friend and got flustered, "I was just geeking out about her quirk."
"Ha, that sounds just like you," Kenji joked laughing at Toshi, he turned to Saori and held his hand out for a handshake, "Kenji Carter-Uraraka, nice to meet ya."
"Saori Kaminari," She took his hand and shook it, "It's nice to meet you as well."
"Alright class, Kero." Froppy announced from the front, shuffling through her papers, "Class is over for today, go to your dorms and get some rest, tomorrow's gonna be a big day."
