Vlad p.o.v.
It was the day of the marathon, everyone was prepared with gym clothes and bottled water. Even if running meant exhaustion none of the students dared to skip, it was simply not worth it. would give anyone shit for not participating and no one was stupid enough to get in his way. Also, it was pretty spread that whoever came last would be on constant watch under surveillance. Rumors circulated that everyone who came last before changed schools because they had enough of the P.E. teacher.
The annoying people started flocking around me because, from Tuesday Erin, Allen and Justice started to argue about who would make it first to the finishing line, they haven't stopped since.
"I'm going to win right Laura?" Erin asked her loud enough for everyone to hear.
"I don't care, I simply want to go around this route and go home and get some proper sleep." was Laura's response.
"You're so mean," Erin said bugging her probably wanting her recognition and blessings.
"Whatever." Laura didn't seem in a good mood, the cause must have been because she refused to run, but had to appear to at least walk this distance. The trio started to fight anew, making me wonder where they stored so much energy. At this point, I wished someone else would snatch the first place so I could see their disappointed faces. And eventually, we started with the warm-up.
Lutz p.o.v.
Not many cared enough to take part in the warm-up, most people just stood there awkwardly while the teacher instructed the warm-up activities, only a small group of people in the front cared to preform them like Erin, Allen, and Justice. Their aura's screamed "winning". Once we finished everyone gathered to the start line up, and a gun was shot to inform us the school's marathon started. Of course, those three idiots took the lead even pushing each other out the way. I was right behind them with our little group that included Luciano, Jian, Cynthia, and Tabitha. Seeing the trio rushing from the start with all their might made me believe that right before the end they would tire themself out since it was 10 kilometers, not a 100-meter run.
Vincent p.o.v.
Somehow the date from the yesterday got me all tired and grumpy, Flavio and Allen were pissed that the date went south. Their constant annoyance got me all worked up making me wonder all night what I could have done or said better. Thanks to over-thinking I hardly had any decent amount of sleep. I decided to stroll around while having a cigarette rather than fussing about running and doing it faster just for the sake of leaving this place. The only goal I had in mind was not coming in last, as I was lighting my cigarette, Oliver approached me with his creepy smile. What could he want this time around? I glared at him in hopes he would take a damn hint but that didn't happen.
"Come on Vincent, you could at least try to give it your all." Of course, this annoying thing would want me to run.
"Fuck off Oliver! I just want to enjoy this moment in peace." He laughed averting his attention on another victim.
"Laura, poppet, why don't you run?!" I wasn't expecting her to be within the slower ranks considering she was considerably strong. She didn't seem to hear him due to the headphones that were blocking off the sounds, but she must have seen Oliver's mouth moving.
"What?" she asked pushing them slightly away.
"I asked why you aren't running." she just answered bluntly.
"I don't like jogging much." well I hoped he would keep leading this conversation with her and leave me the frick alone.
"How about you join us?" he mentioned at me and she suddenly shook her head repeatedly.
"I must decline this offer, it's not like I don't like you or anything, but I can't stand the smell." hearing her response made me chuckle.
"You could always add that I'm ugly as well." I saw a glint of guilt in her eyes, she quickly corrected herself.
"I just despite the smell of cigarettes." despite seemed like a really heavy word to describe it, I saw her now just staring on the ground not daring to meet my eyes.
"I see." was Oliver's only response. Finally, some gap was formed between us since Oliver thought he wanted a chat buddy, something he wouldn't get out of me, but Laura seemed kind enough to offer him such a service. Suddenly I saw her jumping away, just because a small wasp flew by, the whole spectacle confused Oliver as he didn't see the cause of her fear.
"Is something wrong poppet?" he asked, but she just shook her head in response. Knowing what was the caused her reaction I smiled, wanting to give her even a scare on a larger level I remembered that there was a wasp-hive nearby, hence why there was such a large population of wasps around here. Smirking I just took a stone and directed it toward the optimal direction. I succeeded, without even thinking I dragged Oliver with me and jumped into the nearby river we were supposed to run along as part of the marathon, who would have thought this chick instead of jumping into the water would freeze in fear and choose to run.
Catalina p.o.v.
I was peaceful jogging with Undine, Claudius, Flavio, and Alfonso. Alfonso seemed displeased by the idea that Flavio was seemingly dragging him along. Like Claudius, he seemed like a lazy bum that would do anything to skip running this marathon. Like Flavio was watching over Alfonso my responsibility remained with Claudius, I was holding his hand at all times making sure he wouldn't slack off. Perhaps if people noticed it, rumors would spread about me dating him but such small concerns hardly mattered to me. He understood I only saw him as a friend hence why I didn't want him coming in last on this marathon which most likely would cause him to leave the school. Another person I was worried about was Laura, no matter the threats she wouldn't even reconsider running this long distance. I was feeling bad for Aspen and Fantina that probably tried their best until the very end. Their spirits were indeed virtuous.
"You're really planning to hold my hand all way to the finishing line?" Claudius asked me, I didn't care how bothersome it may have been to him, I would prevail this mission.
"If I did you would stop running, do you see my problem?" He went all quiet. Suddenly we heard students yelling and repeated splash of water.
"What's going on?" Alfonso asked himself and looked back, his face to got all pale.
"Everyone jump into the water!" I turned around wondering if this was some kind of prank, but what I encountered was a running Laura and an angry herd of wasps that were trying to sting anyone they came across. As my friends were escaping I suddenly felt my legs giving up, I froze at the moment, caught by fear. Thankfully Claudius understood my state and picked me from the ground, hastily jumping into the water. We all dived in waiting for the wasps to get tired from the chase and fly away. The herd was no longer after Laura, but she was still dashing thru through the marathon lane like a madman.
"This isn't good," Undine said as she asked Flavio to call for the teachers so he could explain the situation as she phoned for an ambulance.
"Why was Laura looking so pale?" Claudius asked that's what I also wanted to know.
"She has a phobia for wasps, bees and other similar insects, seeing as they were chasing her someone must have caused it." Of course Undine a person who knew Laura the longest would know of such a matter. Alphonso then added.
"I spotted a hive just roughly a few minutes ago." was this a mere accident or someone meant to harm Laura?
Jian p.o.v.
At this point we were only one kilometer from the set goal, our little group was trying to catch up to the trio that swore would win this marathon. It never occurred to me I would put this much effort into winning, but since there would be money prizes for the three first people that complete the marathon I got pumped. So here I was nearly head to head with Lutz, Matt, Cynthia, Tabitha, and Luciano.
"Who is that?" Lutz asked being shocked that someone caught up to us so easily.
"It's a girl," Luciano answered, as the figure became clearer I finally recognized the person.
"It's Laura." she was running with no distractions, unlike our bunch, but when I spotted her facial expression something felt off.
"I thought she said she didn't care much for the winning prize." Cynthia seemed confused since we all remembered how the girls were pestering her, but Laura just kept brushing everyone's attempts pridefully admitting she wouldn't run in a million years, but here she was.
"Maybe she changed her mind after hearing about the prize money," Matt said but I had to disagree.
"I think she isn't in her right state of mind."That said I tried to catch her, prize money aside I couldn't let her run in such a state, it seemed like Cynthia got the same idea as I did, but who knew with her hulk strength she would drag us along. It was hard keeping up with her speed before I could ask the other guys to help us we were already way ahead of them.
"Snap out of it Laura." No attempts of communication seemed to work but soon we ran past the trio that was looking exhausted at this moment, hence why they had a hard time catching up with us, so we won Laura being in the first place and all. Even when we crossed the finishing line Laura tried to run away, maybe back to school. But it seemed like the teachers were informed about what was taking place since secured her in place. Now when she couldn't run much more we heard her all screaming.
"No get them away from me." she was throwing her hands in the air as if something was around her head. Soon Erin got a message.
"Cat said a horde of wasps was chasing her. " I nodded since no one else knew what to do, I decided to put my hands on her face gently while saying.
"Calm down, everything is alright, try taking deep breaths." Surprisingly it worked, I didn't have to restore to calming pills which I brought over, it would have been bad if the teachers asked the content of these. Luciano looked as if he wanted to disturb me, but before he could Laura put me into a hug.
"Are you sure you don't want to hug someone like Erin?" I asked since these two seemed the closets around here, she just shook her head. I thought she used me as a protection barrier so no one would see her crying, but within those few seconds, she just shed one single tear, making me wonder if that was an attempt to imitate manga characters that cried prettily.
"Tsk, stupid suppression mechanism." apparently I was wrong, she let me go thanked me and was stormed with a lot of questions.
"Wait how did I come here?" she looked really confused and as she started to puzzle everything up together. Her hands started to tremble.
"Did anyone get hurt because of me?" but butted in before anyone here could console her.
"Few kids were stung, but thankfully no one allergic to wasps was bitten, now Miss. Amoniak care to explain to what happened?" she appeared guilty at the moment.
"I think Vincent noticed how scared I was when a wasp flew by and decided to play a prank, he probably thought I would jump into the water and beat him up, but I froze in fear and ran, I don't remember much after that." nodded seeing her all shaken up made me wonder what Vincent thought about when he chose to play with someone's fear.
"Since other students got hurt because of your actions, we will have no choice but suspend you from school, under that week I would want you to think through your actions and write an apology to all the students, Vincent will get the same punishment and additionally he will have to run this marathon route again with my surveillance." Erin decided to disagree.
"Why would you punish a student that was also a victim in this case?" just explained.
"Listen kiddo, even if I formally say this is a punishment I'm only doing this because I don't think this student would be able to return to school." I glanced at Laura and she just chose to nod still looking pale.
"Just return home, I will talk with the other teachers and resolve it."
