Sybil's eyes grew large with shock, her gaze flew to her father, then her son, and finally her husband. She could't have heard correctly, not this, not after all this time. But the shame and heartache that burned on Tom's face testified to the truth. Everyone sat frozen, waiting, as the words her little boy had uttered buzzed about, stinging the lies of complacency. And it hurt.
