Izumi aquires Christmas gifts. Kurogiri helps.
This chapter takes place at a nebulous point in the universe, so to speak, of Nen Deku: Blinky. It's some time after the Hideout Raid arc, but other than that, use your imagination. Time is a figment of the mind. Or something. Don't think too hard about it.
Nen Deku: Blinky (Christmas Special)
"...You want me to... what, Izumi?" Kurogiri asked. If he had a brow to raise, he would have done.
"..." Izumi stared at him. "I forgot. What did I want?"
Kurogiri sighed. As useful as Izumi was for the League's operations (cleaning up the mess left by Tomura's Decay alone made her the most valuable member, in his humble opinion) her memory problems caused nearly enough issues to counteract her usefulness. "You said you wanted me to use my quirk to take you christmas shopping."
Izumi blinked. "Really? That doesn't sound like me."
Fortunately, dealing with Tomura had given Kurogiri a lot of patience. "Do you have your notebook? Maybe you wrote it down there." Compress' idea for Izumi to carry a notebook to write down things she needed to remember had been a godsend. Trust the magician to come up with some sort of helpful trick.
Izumi hummed and pulled the small notebook out of her pocket. The bloodstained bookmark Himko gave her gave him some hope that she'd remembered to write down the reminder. She flipped to the page. "Ah. Apparently I wanted you to take me Christmas shopping."
… Just go with it. "Is that so? You are aware that we can't just go to a shop and purchase gifts, yes?"
"Purchase? I'm going to steal them, obviously."
Obviously. "Of course, how silly of me. I take it you want me to open a warp gate to the inside of shops so you can steal the gifts?"
"...That sounds like a good idea. Thanks for offering."
Kurogiri breathed in, At least she's not destroying my good glasses, and breathed out. "Still, this is a surprising request, Izumi. I didn't think you were the type to celebrate christmas."
"I don't really care about christmas, honestly. Why wait until the end of the year for what I want? I don't need to do that anymore. I just take it, now."
"So why the sudden interest?"
Izumi was quiet for a moment. Kurogiri really hoped she hadn't forgotten again- "I've never really had anyone I wanted to give a gift to. Not until I met Himiko. Or the League. I prefer taking to giving. But…"
"...But?"
Izumi blinked. "What was I talking about?"
Kurogiri sighed. He'd been curious, too. Ah well. "Christmas shopping, Izumi."
"Oh, right. Will you do it?"
Kurogiri hummed. It shouldn't be an issue. If anything, it might throw the authorities off if they steal so randomly. Besides, even Kurogiri could get into the Christmas spirit, on occasion. "Very well. Do you have a list of things that you want to get?"
Izumi shook her head. "I was just going to take everything and pick some stuff out."
Kurogiri sighed.
"In today's news, several stores across Mustufu have been robbed of all their goods. The police believe the culprit to be Midoriya Izumi, of the League of Villains. Kurogiri of the League also seems to be involved." Security camera footage of Kurogiri's warp gates appearing in shops was shown. The head of a vacuum cleaner poked out, and sucked up everything on the shelves.
"These are two very dangerous individuals, with Midoriya being wanted on several counts of murder and several dozen prior counts of theft and robbery. If you come across these two during your christmas shopping, please alert the police or the nearest hero."
Nedzu rubbed his chin, muting the news report. Why would the League rob random stores like this? Midoriya, he could understand; her profile suggested a strong case of antisocial personality disorder, as seen by her complete disinterest in the law so long as she gets what she wants. But why would the warp gate assist? Could it be a League operation?
Considering she robbed a game shop, was it on the order of their manchild leader? But she also robbed a hardware store and a clothes store. Perhaps they were getting into the Black Market? Funds would be important after all…
An email brought Nedzu out of his thoughts. It was an invitation to Present Mic's annual christmas party. Nedzu was already prepared for the secret Santa. Aizawa would surely appreciate the new sleeping b-
Wait, could it be...
...If so, Midoriya's profile might need some revision.
"Man, those League of Villains jerks are out of line this time!" Denki groaned, collapsing into the sofa.
"...So attacking USJ, Hosu, the training camp, and bringing an end to the era of All Might was fine, but robbing a game shop is too far?" Kyoka said, one brow raised so high it was on the next floor.
"I've been waiting years for that game to come out! Years! And I pre-ordered the Special Mega Hyper Plus Ultra Spectacular Gold Platinum Silver Mythril Once In A Lifetime Buy It You Absolute Morons Edition! And now I can't even go get it!"
"...What the hell difference does that make compared to the normal one?"
"It comes with a limited edition pen lid!"
"...You're a moron."
"This is the worst present ever. I LOVE IT!" Twice cheered as he held up his new retractable tape measure. He sat amongst a pile of torn open wrapping paper, his various gifts open around him. All of them from Izumi.
Shigaraki ignored everyone as he played one of his new games one one of his new consoles. Every now and then he fiddled with his new pen lid, carefully avoiding touching it with most of his fingers.
Everyone had been pleasantly surprised when Izumi gave them a pile of gifts each on Christmas day. They'd heard about the robberies, but had just assumed it was Izumi being Izumi. Even Dabi was enjoying his new gifts. Izumi hadn't been too sure what to get him, so she'd thrown a bunch of stuff together. She'd wrapped an Endeavour figure with a very sharp cutlery set, and thin slices of plastic lay scattered around the room. Surprisingly, it was the dancing shoes that he'd taken the biggest shine too, though he'd tried to hide his reaction from everyone.
Not very convincing, seeing as he was wearing them.
Kurogiri watched Himiko squeal as she hugged her friend. Izumi had gotten her the most gifts, with her apparent favorite being the very expensive looking whetstone for her knives. Izumi whispered something in her ear that made Himiko freeze. Everyone flinched as an even higher pitch squeal left Himiko, the banshee in question jumping up and down on the spot, still hugging Izumi.
Izumi didn't react with anything more than a small smile, despite how tight her friend was hugging her.
How quaint, thought Kurogiri as he took in the scene. He wondered when the last time any of them had had a cheerful Christmas, let alone Christmas gifts. Even if it was just for a moment, they could forget about being nationally wanted villains; the only capacity in which most of them had ever been wanted at all.
Kurogiri looked at his own selection of gifts. He had no real want for material possessions, nor did he drink, despite his former cover as a bartender. Even so, it felt nice to be included.
Briefly, Kurogiri wondered what Sensei would have thought of this. The man was not one to celebrate Christmas. Even so, Kurogiri felt that for once, his master's opinion did not matter.
Kurogiri was having his first Christmas. And it was nice, to have something that was his.
(Christmas cheer or no, however, everybody threw things at Spinner when he tried singing Christmas carols. They weren't going to stoop to that level.)
