Deku has Glynda Goodwitch's semblance from RWBY. Yu sees an opportunity.
Semblance Deku: Telekinesis
"Canyon Cannon!"
"GAH!"
It wasn't often Yu got to use her signature technique. Gigantism quirks were pretty rare in the first place. She relished the chance to use it. As she fell, she grabbed the corner of a building to stop herself falling on her ass, and winced as it crumbled between her fingers. There's another paycheck cut.
Still, the villain was taken down, and no civilians were hurt. That was a win. Plus, better a bit of damage on a building than flattening the street when she fell.
She looked over her shoulder to look at her fans. Their cameras were primed, and she wiggled her butt. "Looks like this was a roaring succ-ass!" She winked. The cameras flashed like mad.
Urgh, that was a stretch. Still, hopefully my manager won't yell at me as much now!
She loved being a hero, don't get her wrong. It'd been her dream for a long time. And she knew she had a good figure. She knew from the first time she tried on her costume at UA that her body would be on full display in her costume. Her ass-ets becoming as big as a car didn't help with that either. But it was the price to pay to be a hero with her quirk.
She couldn't help but break things, so she used her looks to try and pull in as much sponsorship as possible to pay the bills. She caught attention thanks to her costume and quirk, so why not revel in it and enjoy it as well? She'll be the next Midnight or Uwabami, but actually high ranking!
She let go of the building, wincing internally as some chunks fell to the ground. Crap, better grab tho—
The chunks stopped. Yu blinked, her hand flinching back before she could catch them. What the— The chunk flew back up to the corner of the building. Yu narrowed her eyes, catching all the bits of dust and slivers of brick that she'd crushed join the chunks. A few seconds later, the building was as good as new. Huh!?
She shrunk down to normal size, and spoke to the police to oversee the arrest. But that sight stayed on her mind. Once the villain was taken away, she crossed her arms and hummed.
"Excuse me? Mt Lady?"
"Hmm?" She turned to see someone approach her. They wore a white shirt, black pencil skirt, and wore black stockings underneath. Their green hair tied back in a bun, with two strands hanging either side of their face.
They introduced themselves as Deku, the Telekinetic Hero. And they had used their quirk to fix the building.
"Huh? That was you!" Yu gasped. They nodded. Yu's mind whirred with possibilities. She grabbed their hands and stared deep into their eyes through their glasses. "Hey, make a Hero Team with me!"
They blinked. "A Hero Team?"
She nodded madly. "Uh huh, uh huh! We could make a great team! I take down the villains and you can fix the damages! Plus, I'm weak with alleyways and stuff, and I'm guessing you have a size limit or something with yours?"
Deku blushed and looked away. "Well, you're right about that. I'll...think about it. Today was actually my debut, to be honest…"
Yu grinned. "A fellow rookie? My debut was about a year ago, myself! I'll give you my number, so give me a call once you've thought about it! I really think we'd make a great team! Plus, I've gotten pretty popular, so your popularity will definitely go up, too!"
Deku gave her a wary look, but eventually they smiled. "A-Alright, Mt. Lady-san." She let go of their hands, and she and Deku parted ways.
Once they were gone, Yu grinned a devious grin. So long damage costs!
Now she could enjoy being in the spotlight, and she can make lots of money. Maybe she could even have an actual agency, and not just her apartment!
How lucky for her to come across a promising, upcoming rookie like this! She'll be up there with the likes of Midnight and Uwabami in no time! Maybe even Miruko or Ryukyu!
Things were looking up!
"Welcome to the Mt. Lady Agency!" Yu declared, waving a hand at her apartment.
"Umm...it's very...nice…" Deku— or Midoriya, as they introduced themselves— said, fiddling with their glasses.
Yu laughed. "Yeah, I know, it's nothing impressive. But! With us two working together, we'll have a property agency in no time!"
Yu can imagine it now. A reception area, and her own office! Ooh, she couldn't wait!
"Now we just need to think of a name," Yu said. She frowned. "Hmm, I spent a while building up my brand, but I think we'll make a new one in no time! Two drop-dead gorgeous heroes like us? No sweat!"
Midoriya blushed, but they shook it off. "Erm, will I have to pose for the cameras, too? N-Not that I'm judging you for doing so! B-But I'm not really all that comfortable."
Yu grinned and wrapped an arm around Midoriya's shoulders. "Don't you worry about a thing, my friend. I'll gladly soak up all the attention for you!" That works out just fine for me!
Midoriya smiled. "O-Oh, I'm glad. Oh, I was thinking, maybe we should get to know each other better? Since we're going to be partners."
Yu smiled. "Sure, that sounds good." Yu figured she could do that. It was a small price to pay for what Midoriya would be doing for her.
"So, umm, where did you go to high school?"
Yu grimaced. Urgh. Don't remind her. "I went to an agricultural high school in Hokkaido. There, er, weren't really any hero schools near where I lived. I kinda just got accepted as a sidekick straight out of high school on account of my quirk." Left unsaid was how many tries it took her to get her provisional license. It was a good job she had found a good hero to work under, even if he did work out in the boonies. "How about you?"
"Oh, I went to U.A."
Yu's eyes widened. "No kidding?" She took a long look at Midoriya. "Sorry to say, but I don't really recognise you from the sports festival."
Midoriya looked away. "Well, erm, I looked a bit different, back then. I didn't really stand out much, either. Anyway, I spent a few years working as one of Best Jeanists' sidekicks." Their face went blank, a far away look in their eyes. "I'll never forget the haircut...and the jeans…"
Yu snickered, glancing down. "Guess that's why you prefer skirts, now?"
Midoriya chuckled. "P-Partly, yes."
"I wouldn't have expected Best Jeanist, though."
"Well, our quirks are both the result of lots of practice and training. My quirk was pretty weak by itself. It wasn't much stronger than my mom's, which can attract small objects. But after a few years of control training it got to where it is now."
Yu's eyebrows raised up. "That's pretty impressive," she said. She couldn't really relate, though. For her, all her quirk took was some stamina training, and training to hold back her natural strength. Sure, she worked her body hard, but her quirk had always been strong.
They spent some time going back and forth like that. Yu even enjoyed herself.
After a few months their team had got back to at least where Yu had been in the ratings by herself, and then some. It turns out that once your biggest flaw— property damage— is removed, the people are a lot more willing to vote for you in the ratings. Who knew?
Despite Yu's best efforts to divert all the media attention, Midoriya still got a fair amount. The telekinetic never failed to get flustered at the attention, and Yu couldn't even get mad. Despite having such impressive control over a self-admittedly tricky quirk, Midoriya lacked confidence. It was good to see them gradually pull out of their shell.
Midoriya even got asked to help out during the sports festival, repairing the arena during the third round. They could have gotten Cementoss to do it, but U.A. liked to help their students out, even after graduation. Free publicity was the best kind of publicity, in Yu's book.
Their standing improved after that, and Mt. Lady and Deku were asked to join more delicate operations than Yu was used to. She could surprise villains in buildings and whatnot, and Midoriya could just repair the damage.
The first time Midoriya got an invitation to join another agency, Yu nearly threw the presumptuous jerk into the sun. They were her partner! Get your own! Midoriya graciously, but clearly turned the other hero down, and Yu couldn't help but grin.
Midoriya was a good friend by this point. She'd miss them if they went. Even after many more invitations, Midoriya never considered it.
Not even when Yoroi Musha— one of the top ten! — invited them. Once he had been turned down and the two discussed it together, they both agreed that the oldman had a look in his eyes neither liked. Like she was a potential asset, rather than a partner.
Yu tried not to think about how much it reminded her of what she saw in the mirror on the day Midoriya accepted her invitation.
Their team's rising popularity finally came through when they were asked on possibly the most sensitive operation yet. Rescuing two U.A. students from the League of Villains.
Midoriya had been very intense about the whole thing. Which made sense. Their old alma mater was being dragged across the coals. Anyone would be annoyed. They'd been taught by some of those teachers, after all.
It had gone well, smashing the wall in and restraining the Noumu. Until it didn't
Yu didn't remember much of what happened that night. She got blasted by some straight-out-of-a-comic-book Super Villain, and then took a whack to the face protecting some students.
And then she woke up and All Might was retiring, and Midoriya had lost a leg.
"Thank you, Ectoplasm-sensei, for helping with everything," Midoriya said, easily balancing on their new leg.
"Please, Midoriya-san, just call me Ectoplasm. I've not been your teacher for years. But you're welcome. I know how difficult physio can be," the man said, bending his own prosthetics."
"Seriously, thanks for the help," Yu said to him, once they were out of earshot. "It's good to see them back on their feet."
Ectoplasm hummed. "I was a bit surprised when I heard Midoriya had partnered with you. I was also a little worried." Yu frowned. "They've always been a good kid, a bit naive— as much as a hero can be. I was concerned that a hero that was well known for causing property damage had recruited them into a team. But I see now I worried for nothing. Have a good day, Mt. Lady."
Yu sent him off with a deeper frown.
"Yu-san?"
Yu flinched. "Huh?"
"Thank you for all the support you've given me since, you know…" Midoriya looked down and twiddled their fingers. "You didn't need to pay for it all, you know. We both make the same amount."
Yu bit the inside of her lip. She clapped a hand on Midoriya's shoulder. "Hey, don't worry about it. We're friends, and if I hadn't invited you to make a team with me, you probably wouldn't have ended up like that." What she didn't say was that she was sorry. Sorry for trying to take advantage of an obvious newbie. For taking advantage of their kind nature. Looking back now, Yu was ashamed of herself.
But Midoriya just smiled. It was a smile that said a lot. Somehow, Yu got the impression that Midoriya knew what she was actually saying. "It's fine, Yu-san. I knew what I was getting into, when I became a hero." And when I partnered with you, their eyes seemed to say. But there was no bitterness. No anger or accusation. Just a cheerful acceptance and forgiveness.
They hugged, and Yu held on tight. Midoriya was her best friend, without a doubt. She didn't think she deserved them, but she wasn't letting go.
After all, no matter how far she came as a hero, and a person, over time, she'd always be a little selfish.
