"Who's My Daddy"

(Beginning)

By: Chocolat a' la folie

Lory smirked as he read a file, his assistant wanted to ask the reason why but the president cut him before he said so.

"It's time to play match-making again." He flashed a wide grin as if he had some thought rather plans running inside the head of his.

"President, uhm... Should we start to move in action?" The employee inquired and their eyes met then both nodded as if they were talking in mental telepathy.

"I guess, it's time for Romeo to have his so called rival." The man laughed as he exited from his office.

She was planning to transfer Moru to another school because they will be moving out from their previous apartment to a place near the agency to minimize the hassle. Her phone rang and she immediately answered it knowing that the caller was Kanae.

"Moko-san!" The girl cheerfully said. An imagination popped inside her mind-Kanae probably distanced her phone from her precious ear. Kyoko made a mental note not to shout as loud as that again.

"I can hear you, lower your voice." The other line sighed.

"Why did my best-ever-friend call?"

"I just want to ask you about the location where you will move in."

"Aweeeh! You're so sweet!"

"I'm just asking you."

"No! Moko-san, your supposed to say things like 'because I'm worried about you' or something like that!" Mogami pouted like a kid.

"Kyoko, stop being childish. If I don't know you personally, I would likely think that you are the same age as Moru."

"Meanie."

"Okay, so moving on to the interrupted question earlier, where are you going to move?"

"I'm still deciding where, but don't worry. I found a two or three choices but I also want to hear Moru's opinion so I'll bring him to search for a suitable place on weekend."

"If Moru will not be comfortable in any of those, there's a vacant apartment beside mine."

"Woah, Moru will be happy to hear that Aunt Kanae."

"Don't tease me."

"Oh? Am I teasing you?"

"Kyoko, don't play with me. Do you want me to set you up with him?" Kanae smirked as she said those lines.

"Moko-san! Please, I'm sorry! Please don't make Tsuruga-san meet me!" The other line nervously replied.

"Mou, did you say something? Moreover, did I ever mention a name?" She michievously laugh.

"Moko-san!"

"Okay, I get it. Yeah, I need to hang up now, filming will start soon."

"Okay! Goodluck, see you tomorrow Aunt Kanae." With that, Kanae Kotonami pressed the end call button.

Mogami Kyoko smiled as she walked along the corridors of LME, it was already time for her to pick-up Moru. She was holding some papers inside a long brown envelope when her body collided to a hard-built frame. The woman was almost thrown aback due to the collision but a strong pair of hands owned by the other party held her arms, preventing her from falling.

"I'm sorry." She apologized, "Thank you for saving me." The girl then looked to the owner of those arms and her eyes turned wide.

"No problem, it's only natural."

"It's all because of my clumsiness. I'm really sorry." Kyoko bowed exaggeratedly.

"It's also my fault, I didn't noticed you earlier." Understanding the hidden meaning behind those words she laughed and the latter chuckled in return.

"Well, I'm sorry for being small.

"No, it's just that I'm really tall."

"Mister, that even sound worse."

"Sorry, it's just that you're really fun to tease."

"Excuse me. Is that an insult or a compliment?"

"It's a compliment of course. Given that you are already beautiful without too much make up on."

This man was really fun to talk with even if she was also nervous but he always found a way to erase the tension. "Not only you are handsome but also a jester. I figured that you also have a talent in comedy Kashino-san."

"No, it is really because Kyoko-san has a sense of humor."

"Haha. Not really."

"You know, I like you." The man flatly said also with a hidden meaning on it but Kyoko thought of it the as a friendly gesture.

"I like you too, Kashino-san. I think we could get along." She showed her right hand, implying for a handshake.

"... I like you too, Kashino-san." Tsuruga Ren heard an echo which was familiar to his ears. He easily identified it even without trying hard.

It was none other than Kyoko Mogami. No, scratch that, his Kyoko.

Wait. He paused for a while realizing the words from the girl's dialogue. Did he really heard it right? Wanting to confirm it, he stepped lightly on the floor, trying not to emit any noticeable sounds then stopped at the corner where the target wouldn't catched him. It felt idiotic but he still gone to continue his so called 'mission'.

Ren inhaled deeply then looked at the two figures on the corridor, obviously they didn't see him. What surprised him was what he saw next: Kashino's gentle fingers were touching Kyoko's cheeks which was not showing any resistance at all. Unconciously, his fist clenched and he hurriedly rushed off from the scene.

"Thank you for helping me earlier, Kashino-san." Kyoko happily said between her laughs.

"I only fixed it so there's no need for it to be mentioned."

"Really, but it sure is a great help. I'm glad that you noticed it before everyone see it. If not, it will be more embarrasing." She blushed, imagining what will happen if the public saw the mess in her cheeks. Hey eyes flashed a glance at her wrist watch. "Oh, I need to go. Sorry."

"Nah, it's okay Kyoko-chan. We can still talk and grab some food on the coffee shop next time."

"See you next time, Kashino-san." Mogami Kyoko waved her hand.

"Mom!" The kid greeted her as she entered his school. The mother and son had some quality time together after arranging Moru's tranferee papers.

They arrived at night in their house with the little Hizuri still hyperactive as always.

"Mom, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure. So what is it dear?"

"Actually, when I entered your room earlier, I saw a bunch of flowers. They smell nice. Can I ask where did you buy it?"

"I don't know, someone gave it ."

Hearing this, Moru remembered one of his Uncle Sho's stories. "Did Aunt Kanae gave it to you?"

"No, I don't know who gave it to me. Why did you ask?"

"Based on my conclusion, I think your secret admirer gave it to you." Kyoko's cheeks immediately gone red all of a sudden.

"Eh! Where did you learn that term?"

Realizing what he blurted out, Moru answed while stammering. "U-uncle Sho."

Kyoko's expression changed into 'Shotarou-I-want-your-dead-body-in-a-minute-look' that left Moru-chan with no choice but to ease her anger.

"Mom, actually I-I-I just heard it randomly!"

Kyoko gave him a meaningful look. "Eh? Are you sure?" He gulped then stated, "Y-yes, so please don't kill Uncle. G-goodnight Mom." He hugged her then hurriedly dashed off to his room.

Tomorrow, they will take a look at an apartment beside Kanae's and Kyoko was really excited, her eyes bleeming with sparks all over.

But then, an unexpected thing happened.

If on the previous days, she only received white flowers from an unknown person saying, 'I miss the old us.' in the card but today was different.

Because instead of seeing white flowers, she was surprised by a certain figure standing beside her locker muttering, 'I miss the old us.'

"Pardon?"

"Mogami-san." The woman stood still as if she had seen a corpse which came to life once more.

"Tsuruga-san." She absent-mindedly muttered with shaking voice. But then after some seconds, she realized that he was her superior and her greeting was quite rude and not good for her manners. She then tried to speak again saying, "I'm sorry for my impoliteness. I even forgot to act the way I should. Good morning Tsuruga-san. Please forgive me for my previous action." She then slightly tilted her body to form a bowing gesture in front of her unexpected visitor.

The lad obviously didn't like her response for acting like there's nothing between them. 'But is there really something between them?' he thought to himself.

"No, it's okay. Please drop the formalities." He smiled faintly but enough for Kyoko to notice and to be bothered by it whether in a bad or good way but mostly, it was all of the above.

"Are you looking for Yashiro-san? If it's him, I saw him earlier together with the President at the lobby." Kyoko tried to intervene together with a random question.

"No." He flatly stated and started to take a step towards her current position. "I came to talk to you."

Feeling a little bit awkward, she inhaled, smelling the scent of Ren's masculine perfume. "Uhm, did the President ordered you?" She asked suspiciously.

"No, I came to fix things. I'm serious on what I said earlier."

Her mind felt somewhat clouded as she couldn't follow what he was trying to stay. "Fix things? Is there something broken that you want me to fix for you?" She inquired looking puzzled.

Ren Tsuruga almost literaly slapped himself but refrained for doing so. He almost forgot that even if changes are constant, the woman he was talking to was still the dense Kyoko and no matter what happens, she will always be one.

"Okay, what I mean is," the man couldn't take it anymore and the girl made it even harder for him. "I want us to return like old times."

He let out a breathe. There, he said it but not what he exactly planned. "Are you serious?" Her face turned disbelieving.

"Do I look like I'm joking?" He placed both of his hands at the end of her shoulders, "Look at me and tell if I am lying."

She couldn't control her body, she was frightened with his touch thus, she stepped backward unintentionaly as if a prey escaping from its predator. This gesture made the latter a bit suspicious. Was there something in him that she was scared of?

"Sorry to frighten you. I just want to ask you for a coffee break." He made an expression which he knew that Kyoko wouldn't dare to refuse.

She let out an audible sigh as if a sign of her surrender and slowly, they walked in a complete silence to the said coffee shop.

While on their way, no one could not take noticed of the two people in the corridors. It was as if the first time for years that Tsuruga Ren was seen walking together with a girl except Maria, nonetheless it was Mogami Kyoko.

No one knew that there was someone who captured that confrontation and heard the conversation earlier. That individual was so sure that the headline for the incoming days would be them.

When they entered the coffee shop, it felt like time had stopped due to the reason that everyone was frozen and remained unmoved from their reactions upon seeing the two sat across each other on the table at the corner.

The waitress clumsily approached their table, carrying menus and stopped at them as she handed it. It was written all over her face that she had a crush on the actor and miserably failed to hide it which made Kyoko a little bit uncomfortable and as for the reason why, she still didn't know. She shrugged the idea out of her head for now, she might figure it out later.

"What's yours? " He really had no plan to go to this shop but it was like a reflex since he had no clue on how to move next. It just came out of the blue.

"Latte." That was her only reply and it was obvious by her voice that she didn't feel like she wanted to speak at the moment.

"Miss, we'll have a black coffee, a latte and two slices of chocolate cake." And with that words, the waitress slowly disappeared from their sight as it was turn for Kyoko Mogami to be interrogated.

"Mogami-san, it's nice to see you again."

"Yes, how are you T-Tsuruga-san?" If she only knew how badly he wanted her to call him by his real given name. He even dreamt of it at night that they were being passionate with each other and she called him 'Kuon'. Gone was the formalities and honorifics and all left was the love within her voice but too bad, it was only just a dream. He shook his head to eradicate those dirty thoughts inside his mind.

"I'm fine. How about you. It seems that I have something that I missed during your disappearance. Will you mind telling me the reason why?"

"Nothing has changed, really. It's just that I learned to stand on my own and face my goals. Nothing much to tell." She chuckled upon remiscing those memories. "And as for the reason why, I'm sorry but I can't tell. Maybe a time will come when you'll know it."

"Forgive me for invading your privacy Mogami-san. It's just that you are like a family to us." She flinched at that term. She wondered what will Tsuruga-san do if he ever found out the truth. She really wished that he wouldn't, for she wants him to be himself freely and to choose his partner for life and be happy as he always say when they were kids.

"Mom and Dad were really worried about you." He said, reffering to his mother and father and in return, she felt guilty upon knowing this. "I'm sorry. If there will be a time that we will meet again, I wish that I can assure them that I'm okay."

"That would be good to hear. I'm sure they will always have a time reserved for you especially your Father. Kuu Hizuri will be very delighted that he will eat double his original meal plan." She wanted to burst out laughing but she couldn't risk to feel the embarrasment in this time of the day.

"Tsuruga-san, you speak like he's not your father. Are you jealous that I am stealing Kuu-Otou-san from you?" She joked lightly without even knowing what she said and realized it again after seconds. "I'm sorry. Please forgive my actions."

"Mogami-san, you can speak to me like old times. It's okay to drop all of the formalities." He pointed it out, slightly annoyed that she somewhat destroyed their momentum.

"Sorry. It's just that in truth, I am a bit uncomfortable given that we hadn't talked with each other for years." She lied, but more than a half of it was true.

"So we need to catch up for our lost time. Right?" He was like talking to a little kid.

"Okay. T-tsuruga-san" their order arrived as they chatted randomly about Maria, the President, acting career and the Hizuri's forgetting Ren's agenda.

An hour passed and they decided to go to their separate ways. He insisted on driving Kyoko to her destination which was their apartment. It was a little too far from the agency so she refused his offer but he repeated it again and she knew that Tsuruga Ren never repeats his word unless he wanted to push it and gave her no room for refusal.

"Are you living alone?" That question echoed inside the vehicle. Kyoko, knowing that she was living with Moru cannot answer it easily.

"Y-yes. I am living alone" ...together with our son.-she wanted to add.

The whole trip was engulfed with a comfortable silence until they arrived at the apartment complex.

"Take care and be careful on your way Tsuruga-san. Thank you for the ride." She bid him 'goodbye' as she walked towards the apartment because he insisted on waiting for the girl to enter her home instead of doing the reverse.

Yes, there was really something between them: a barrier and he will break it no matter what.

He didn't know if it was only his crazy imagination knowing that Kyoko lives by herself but a familiar dark-haired kid opened her door.

Kyoko was nervous upon seeing her kid opened the door. Tsuruga-san might see him. She turned to the direction where his car was supposed to be parked but it was gone. Thank goodness. It was nice talking to him again. Her 'Corn'.
