Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who and never will. But I do own Sophie McQueen and any other characters I make up!
A huge thanks to everyone who reviewed, favorited, and put on their alerts. The Tenth Doctor gives you a hug and a kiss (but not on the lips! Those are for me, I'm only being nice and letting him out of his cage for the day ;) So very mean of me, but who cares) for being so amazingly brilliant!
Sophie's outfit for this episode is on polyvore :)
Sophie's POV...
Smoothing down my orange dress, I stepped out of the TARDIS right behind the Doctor, Rose, and Mickey. I looked around at where we were at, stepping beside the Doctor. It was dark and a apparently disused room and it looked like it was a spaceship and I pointed that out,
"It looks like we're in a spaceship."
"That's because we are, Sophie." The Doctor met my eyes, for the first time since we shared that kiss and I felt my face heat up, feeling nervous all of the sudden. I could feel the tension in the air and I couldn't help but shiver when the Doctor watched me, taking a glance at my lips, brown eyes slightly darker than normal. My face heated up more and I cleared my throat. Now it was the Doctor's turn to blush as he glanced away from me. Rose was glaring at the two of us and was about to say something, but was interrupted by the excited voice of Mickey.
"It's a spaceship! Brilliant, I got a spaceship on my first go!"
I couldn't but grin at his excitement as I searched around myself as Rose said in a confused voice,
"Looks kinds of abandoned…anyone on board?"
"Nah, nothing here. Well! Not that dangerous."
"At least you think there's nothing dangerous," I couldn't help but say in teasing voice as I stopped by the control panel, looking up at him with a grin. "But I hate to break it you, Doctor, but danger – it seems – is your middle name. If you're here, there's doubt there's danger."
The Doctor looked like he was going to protest this fact but then he shrugged. "Yeah, I suppose you have a point. So, I'll do a quick scan to make sure…"
I laughed as he went over to the control panel where I was and pushed a couple buttons. I couldn't but watch him curiously, unconsciously leaning over his shoulder to do so. Because I was interested in what he was dong, I didn't notice that the Doctor had stiffened and sucked in a breath when I pressed against him.
"What do those buttons do?" I asked.
"They, uh…" The Doctor stuttered, running a hand through his hair nervously. My eyebrows furrowed at him confused and I opened my mouth to question him, but Rose cut in, smiling as she came up to us, oblivious to how the Doctor was acting.
"So, what's the date? How far have we gone?"
The Doctor moved away from me, looking relived at the change of subject. "About three hundred years in the future, give or take." He went over to this switch and pulled on it, making the lights turn on and for a window to gradually open to show a spectacular view, and the Doctor grinned, looking back to normal. Man, he could really change his emotions fast was the thought I had as I looked at him. "Fifty-first century. Diagmar Cluster, you're a long way from home, Mickey! Two and half-galaxies!"
Looking over at Mickey, I saw that he was by a pot hole, gazing out of it. Rose moved over to him, putting her hands on his shoulders, grinning. She said something to him but I didn't hear what she said as I silently looked around the control taking in everything while the Doctor picked up bits and pieces of what looked to be broken technology, looking unimpressed by what he was seeing.
"There's a lot of stuff here," I commented. By now, I was over by the Doctor, picking up pieces myself and looking them over. I was impressed by this stuff. It was rather advanced, but it was to be expected.
The Doctor nodded in agreement, "Got a lot of repair work going on." He chucked the pieces he picked up casually down before moving over to these screen and he spoke again, with growing surprise and curiosity in his tone of voice, "Now that's odd, look at that."
I was the first one over to him and I looked at what he was looking at. It was a diagram on the screen. It was a diagram of the spaceship and I could see what he found so odd about it. I couldn't help but agree with him. I didn't read diagrams all that well but this one was rather easy.
"All the warp engines are going … full capacity! There's enough power running through this ship to punch a hole in the universe… and we're not moving. So where's that power going?"
"The better question is where the crew went?" I said. "I mean, they should be here but they're not."
The Doctor leaned forward and tweaked some of the knobs on the control panel, glancing at the screen. "Good point," he said. "No life reading on board."
I slipped on my glasses to get a closer look at the screen where I practically had to lean across the Doctor to this. I completely missed the flushed look on the Doctor's face. Once I was able to see better, I saw that he was right. There were no life readings on board. My nose crinkled up in confusion.
"But that makes no sense," I said, pointing out the obvious. I leaned back away from the Doctor and I could have sworn he sighed in relief but I ignored it. "There should be crew here. Why would you have a spaceship in space if you don't have anyone controlling it?"
Rose nodded in agreement, "Yeah, they didn't just nip out for a quick fag." This was said in a joking tone and I couldn't help but snort. Not at what she said, but because of what the Doctor said after that, taking her seriously.
"Nope, check all the smoking pods."
There was a pause between us four until I broke the silence by sniffing the air and my nose wrinkled again, but this time because a bad smell went up my nose.
"What the hell is that smell?" I questioned, looking at the Doctor, Rose, and Mickey, "Do you smell that?"
The Doctor nodded, sniffing the air as well.
"Yeah, someone's cooking."
"Sunday roast definitely!"
Why was someone cooking? There was no crew on this spaceship so how could that be possible. Feeling bored for a moment, I pressed a button on the control panel only to jump at the sound of a door opening from behind us.
"I didn't do it!" I exclaimed, jumping backwards accidently bumping into the Doctor, who put his arms around my waist. I blushed, embarrassed at my exclamation. "Eh … sorry." I moved back away from the Doctor and he dropped his arms from around me.
Now walking through the door that had opened, and we saw a floor with 18th century décor as well as a lit fireplace.
"Well, there's something you don't see in your average spaceship," The Doctor said as he went over to the fireplace to examine it. "Eighteenth century! French! Nice mantel." He patted it as he pulled out the sonic screwdriver with his other hand and he pointed the sonic at the fireplace, making it light up at the tip, "Not a hologram." He kneeled down to examine it closely while Rose and Mickey explored the rest of the room.
"I love a warm fire." I smiled to myself as a memory of making smores with my Aunt Sarah Jane on a cold, winter day. "Auntie and I used to make smores all the time! Tasty ones too."
"I've never had smores," The Doctor said and I gaped at him.
"You never had smores! Now, that's just wrong." I shook my head but then I grinned, "I'm so going to make you smores. Show you what you've been missing out on." I nudged the Doctor in the side and he chuckled at me making my grin widen. After that kiss, I was worried that it was going to be awkward for me to be around the Doctor, but it seemed as if nothing changed oddly enough.
"Not even a reproduction, this actually is an eighteenth century French fireplace," The Doctor said as he went back to examining the fireplace. "Double sided, there's another room through there."
And there was. I peered inside the other room. Like the fireplace, it looked rather French too. I couldn't help but wonder who the owner of this room was.
"There can't be, that's the outer hull of the spaceship." Rose's disbelieving voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked over at her. For someone who had seen aliens, she didn't believe that there could be another room. Yes, it was odd, but from the lift she led … the one I led now … we encounter odd stuff every day. When I looked back into the room, there was a small blonde sitting down in front of the fire, dressed in a night gown. She looked so confused at the sight of me looking at her. Well there's my answer for who lived in the room.
I gave her a welcoming smile, "Hello."
At the sound of my voice, the Doctor looked into the room as well and he sounded surprised as he greeted her, "Hello!"
The girl hesitated for a moment, "Hello…"
"What's your name?"
"Reinette."
"Oh, I love that name," I said brightly. "Pretty name for a pretty girl."
The little girl blushed. "Thank you, Madame," she said shyly.
When she called me 'Madame', I realized that she thought the Doctor and I were married. "Oh, we're not married." The Doctor's voice was mingled with mine and I looked at him and he looked at me and we smiled sheepishly at each other before turning back to look at Reinette. The Doctor cleared his throat.
"Can you tell me where you are at the moment, Reinette?" he asked.
"In my bedroom," she replied slowly, sounding a bit suspicious.
"And where's your bedroom? Where do you live, Reinette?"
She rolled her eyes slightly, "Paris, of course!"
"Paris, right!" The Doctor nodded and I giggled to myself. Way to state the obvious, Doctor.
"Monsieur, Madame, what are you doing in my fireplace?" Reinette questioned. I would have corrected her about the fact that the Doctor and I weren't married if it wasn't for the Doctor speaking before I could.
"Oh, it's just a routine … fire check," he explained lamely. "Can you tell me what year it is?"
"Of course I can!" Reinette said proudly. "Seventeen hundred and twenty-seven."
"Right, lovely! One of my favorites …" He frowned as he added in afterthought, "August is rubbish though. Stay indoors." He changed the subject, missing the befuddled expression on Reinette's face but I noticed it and shook my head amused. It took a while to get used to the Doctor's odd ways. "Okay, that's all for now. Thanks for your help. Hope you enjoy the rest of the fire. Night, night!"
I waved to Reinette, "Goodnight Reinette."
"Goodnight Monsieur, Madame."
The Doctor stood up, looking thoughtful as I stood up myself, brushing my dress off.
"You said that this was the fifty-first century," Mickey said confused.
"I also said this ship was generating enough power to punch a hole in the universe. I think we just found the hole. Might be a spatio-temporal hyperlink."
I gave the Doctor an amused look, "'Spatio temporal hyperlink'? Where did you get that from?"
"No idea." The Doctor shrugged, "Just made it up. Didn't want to say 'magic door.'"
"Too simple for you, huh?" I teased with a small grin, earning a pout from the Doctor and a nudge in the side.
"And on the other side of the…" Rose made her voice deep as she said, "'magic door," before using her normal voice, "Is France 1727?"
The Doctor nodded and looked back at the fireplace before walking across the room, taking his coat off and throwing it in the corner. "Well, she was speaking French. Right period French too."
"She was speaking English, I heard her!"
I stayed near the fireplace with my arms crossed as Rose draped her arms over Mickey's neck while the Doctor strided back over to the fireplace.
"That's the TARDIS – translates for ya."
'Good ole Sexy.' I thought as I looked over at the blue box, smiling fondly.
"Even French?!"
"Yep."
Accidently, I hit the side of the fireplace with my foot and let out a, 'whoa!' as the section of the wall began to rotate, much like in a horror movie.
The Doctor was over by me and cried out my name as he joined me on the fireplace, and together we disappeared into the other room, hearing Rose cry out,
"Doctor! Sophie!"

Once the fireplace finished rotating, the Doctor and I found ourselves standing in a dark and shadowy bedroom with a sleeping Reinette in the bed. I couldn't see anything at all, not even the Doctor.
"Doctor." I tried to search for him with my hand.
"Right here, Soph." I felt a hand grasp mine, sliding his fingers into mine making my cold hand feel warm. I almost sighed at the feeling. "You alright?"
"Yeah." I squeezed his hand, managing to find his eyes in the dark.
He gave my hand a squeeze back before wandering over to this window in the room, bringing me along with him since he was holding my hand, while there was a sound of a ticking clock in the background. I peered outside the window and gasped at the sight I was met with.
"Wow." I was looking out at the Paris skyline and it was snowing. It was a beautiful sight. "I'm in Paris," I breathed out as if I had just realized this as my lips formed a huge grin. I glanced at the Doctor and I beamed at him, still grinning as he met my eyes and grinned back. I stared at him amazed by how beautiful he looked as the light of the Paris skyline hit him just right. He stared right back at me, the grin slipping from his face. There was silence as we stared at each other like we were the only two people in the world.
The moment, however, was broken at the sound of a horse neighing and we broke our gaze with each other, turning around. Reinette was now sitting up on the bed and looked as if she was about ready to scream.
"It's okay! Don't scream! It's the fireplace man. Look." The Doctor let go of my hand so he could walk over to Reinette's bed and light a candle by her bed with the sonic screwdriver. Though she knew who he was, she still looked startled.
I stepped forward so Reinette could see me. "And me," I said with a smile. "I'm Sophie."
"We were talking, just a moment ago," The Doctor told Reinette. "We were in your fireplace."
"Monsieur, Madame," Reinette started off, sounding and looking confused. "That was weeks ago. That was months!"
"Really?" The Doctor said surprised. "Oh." He walked back to the fireplace and knocked on it, listening to the sound that it produced, "Must be a loose connection." He glanced over at Reinette and me, "Need to get a man in."
"Who are you?" Now Reinette sounded terrified and I couldn't help but feel bad for her. "And what are you doing here?"
The Doctor didn't reply and I looked over at him to see that he was staring at this clock on the mantel with his mouth open, looking slightly scared. I noticed that the ticking sound of the clock had grown even more prominent. I gulped on instinct, feeling slightly scared as the Doctor looked.
"Okay, that's scary…" The Doctor said.
"You're scared of a broken clock?" Reinette inquired skeptically.
"Just a little bit scared, yeah. Just a tiny bit. 'Cause you see, if this clock's broken, and it's the only clock in the room…" The Doctor paused and he looked back at Reinette as the ticking continued. I got what the Doctor was saying.
"Then what's ticking," I finished, gulping again.
The ticking grew louder and Reinette looked around, clearly scared again. I crawled on the bed with her and wrapped my arms around her. She clung to me making me hold onto her tighter.
"It's alright," I mumbled, running a hand through her blonde hair. "Everything's going to be fine." I looked at the Doctor to see him barely moving as he spoke slowly and quietly.
"'Cause you see that's not a clock. You can tell by the resonance. Too big. Six feet, I'd say. Size of a man."
I could feel Reinette's body trembling against me, but she didn't let it show in her voice as she asked, "What is it?"
He checked behind the curtains, but there was nothing. He spoke quickly this time as he obviously spilled out his thought process.
"Now, let's think. If you were a thing that ticks and you were hiding in someone's bedroom, first thing you do: break the clock. No one notices the sound of one clock ticking, but two?" He paused, "You might wonder if you're really alone." He moved towards the bed and crouched down, giving Reinette instructions as he pulled the sonic out of his pocket, "Stay on the bed. Right in the middle. Don't put your feet over the edge." He peered underneath the bed before he turned on the sonic to scan whatever was down there.
But then something smacked the Doctor backwards, knocking the sonic out of his hand. Reinette gasped as she tightened her grip around me. I kept a straight face, wanting to be brave for the girl in my arms. The Doctor scrambled back over to the bed to look underneath the bed once again. He slowly lifted back up, looking at Reinette seriously.
"Reinette…" he whispered. "Don't look round."
I decided to look and I stiffened at the sight of a figure wearing a creepy clown-like mask. It was leering down at Reinette, who looked terrified. I gave a glare to the figure, my maternal instincts kicking in.
"You stay exactly where you are." The Doctor looked at the creature before glancing back at Reinette, then back at the figure, and then back to Reinette. He looked discomforted by something. "Hold still, let me look…" But before that, he grabbed the sonic off of the ground and gave it to me, "Keep the sonic on it, and make sure it doesn't do anything funny."
I nodded, jumping off of the bed. I turned towards the figure as I pointed the sonic at it with the glare still plastered on my face. I watched the Doctor as he bent down and grasped Reinette's head between his hands, staring intently into her eyes with a disturbed expression before looking back at the creature.
"You're been scanning her brain!" he exclaimed shocked. He paused to look once more into Reinette's eyes and he stood up instantly, looking horrified. "What, you've crossed two galaxies and thousands of years just to scan a child's brain? What could there be in a little girl's mind worth blowing a hole in the universe?"
"I don't understand … it wants me?!" Reinette looked round at the figure, but doesn't flinch. "You want me?"
The figure's head twitched to one side and I tensed up, my grip around the sonic tightening, as it spoke in a distinctly mechanical voice.
"No yet," it said, "You are incomplete."
"'Incomplete'? What does that mean, 'incomplete'?"
The droid didn't answer and though I was a little bit scared, I was beginning to feel irritated that it wasn't answering. "Hey!" I said confidently, straightening my back. "Look, if you can answer Reinette, you can answer him. What do you mean that she's incomplete?"
Again the droid didn't answer but before I could even try to question it again, it began to walk around the bed in jerky movements and faced me. But the Doctor was in front of me in an instant, an arm put in front of me protectively just as the droid extended an arm and a menacing looking blade slide out near the Doctor's face. I gasped in surprise against his back as I was flushed against him there. The Doctor didn't even flinch as he moved his head away from the blade.
"Monsieur, Madame, be careful!" Reinette cried.
"Just a nightmare, Reinette, don't worry about it. Everyone has nightmares." The Doctor backed away, bringing me with him as I was behind him. The droid pursed us and it swiped at the Doctor's head. I was the first one to jump backwards, reaching the fireplace and the Doctor was right there with me.
"Even monsters from under the bed have nightmares, don't you, monster?"
The droid slashed at the Doctor again but he jumped to the side and the droid's blade hit the mantel, getting stuck. If it wasn't for me jumping towards the Doctor into his arms, I would have got hit by the blade. My breathing was heavy.
"What do monsters have nightmares about?" Reinette questioned.
While the droid struggled to get out, I took this time to kick the fireplace where I had accidently hit before and the fireplace started to turn around as the Doctor answered Reinette's question, laughing,
"Me!"
The last thing I saw was Reinette smiling as we disappeared from her view.

"Doctor! Sophie!" Rose exclaimed when we appeared back on the other side. I moved out of the way, quickly going over to where Mickey was, as the Doctor ran and grabbed a gun-like object from the wall, using it to spray ice at the droid. It convulsed in a last, vain attempt to free itself before freezing completely. I breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Excellent, ice gun!" Mickey said, smiling appreciatively.
"Fire extinguisher," The Doctor corrected as he calmly threw the 'gun' to Rose, who caught it.
"Whatever it is, I'm just glad that it worked," I said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. Remembering that I had the sonic, I went over to the Doctor and held it out towards him.
He took it, putting it back in his pocket as Rose spoke up, looking at the droid. while balancing the fire extinguisher in her arms.
"Where did that come from?"
"Here," The Doctor answered, gesturing to the fireplace.
"So why is it dressed like that?"
"Field trip to France, some kind of basic camouflage protocol – nice needlework! Same about the face." The Doctor was back over at the droid, squinting at it. He pulled off the wig to reveal its actual head – an ornate clockwork mechanism, covered with a plastic egg shape. If it hadn't been trying to kill us, I would have found this machine beautifully made. It must have taken years to make something like it. This couldn't have been said for the Doctor as he looked at the droid with admiration. "Oh, you are beautiful!" As Rose and Mickey edged closer in curiosity, he put on his glasses to examine it more closely. "No really, you are, you are gorgeous! Look at that! Space age clockwork, I love it!"
I couldn't help but grin at the Doctor's excitement. "Yeah, whoever made it; it must have taken years for them to do it."
"Must have!" The Doctor nodded enthusiastically in agreement, looking over at me, smiling. He looked back at the droid, "Listen, seriously, I mean this from the heart – and, by the way, count those – it would be a crime, it would be an act of vandalism to disassemble you." He took one last wistful look at the droid before holding up the sonic screwdriver, "But that won't stop me."
But before he could even do anything, the droid creaked into life and teleported away. I blinked along with Rose and Mickey, looking around. Where did it go? The Doctor stuffed the sonic back into his pocket, and rushed over to fireplace and was preparing to go back to the other side.
"Short range teleport, can't have got far," The Doctor explained. "Could be still on board –"
"What is it?"
Suddenly, the Doctor pointed at Rose and Mickey seriously. "Don't go looking for it!"
"Where're you going?"
"Back in a sec." Before he could turn the fireplace, I spoke quickly.
"Wait! I should come to."
"No, you stay here too. It's safer here, and don't wander off."
I didn't have to protest this because he turned the fireplace, returning to Reinette's side. I huffed and turned to Rose and Mickey only to see that my former best friend was looking down at the fire extinguisher, weighing in her hands. I knew what she was thinking by the look on her face.
"The Doctor said not to go looking for it, Rose," I told her.
She smirked as she feigned seriousness, "Yeah, he did."
Mickey looked over at Rose and she looked at him. I groaned to myself, already knowing that they were going to go look for it. And I was right as Mickey smiled, grabbing the other fire extinguisher on the wall.
Rose laughed, "Now you're getting it!"
"But—"This was the only thing I was able to get out as they jogged out of the room.
'Seriously!' Well, I wasn't going to follow their example. If I learned anything from my aunt's stories about her adventures, it was to never wander off. You never knew what was lurking out there.
That in mind, I looked around but stayed where I was. As I looked around, I wondered what was going on over on Reinette's side.
It felt as if an hour had past, but it couldn't have more five minutes. Though I was glad that I hadn't wandered off, I was bored out of my mind. I had stopped looking around and I was now sitting down in a chair that I found in the room, humming a tune to myself as I played with my hair.
It was then that I heard the familiar sound of the fireplace turning and I glanced up. There was the Doctor and he looked around for a moment before only spotting me here and not Rose and Mickey.
"Where are they?" The Doctor asked.
"They went to look for it," I answered. "What do you think?"
"And you didn't?" He sounded surprised.
I shook my head, "Nope, I've heard too many stories about my aunt wandering off and her getting into trouble. After you hear so many of those, you know not to wander off unless you want to bump into a Dalek or something."
"Well, you're the first," The Doctor said with a fond smile in my direction, one that had me blushing.
I changed the subject, "So what happened with Reinette? Is she okay?"
"Yes, she's fine," The Doctor answered rather quickly and I raised my eyebrows at him. "Perfectly fine."
My eyes narrowed at him. "Uh, okay." Deciding not to press him, I jumped out of my seat, "Well, we should probably go find them before they get into trouble." I walked with the Doctor as he said,
"Why is it that all of them wander off? I tell them, I do, it's rule one! There could be anything on this ship!"
We turned a corner only to stop at the sight of a white horse standing in the middle of the corridor. The Doctor blinked at the horse and I couldn't help but laugh, finding it hilarious that a horse was on a spaceship.
"Good thing, it's not dinosaurs on a spaceship," I couldn't help but say jokingly. "Now, that would be something, wouldn't it?"
