Sophie's POV…

I stood by the door, peeking through every once in a while to make sure no one was coming. When I wasn't doing that, I was staring at Reinette and the Doctor, wishing I could see what they were doing, or at least hear what they were talking about as I could see the Doctor's lovely mouth moving as he spoke to the blonde in front of him. I still didn't know what had occurred between the two of them and I didn't know if I wanted to know what happened. If I did find out, I would probably get my heart broken or maybe nothing happened between them. Though that last thing was probably wishful thinking on my part.

I watched them for a couple minutes before turning back to look out the door. There was still no one coming. Sighing, I leaned back against the wall and started to watch the Doctor and Reinette again. This time he was away from her and he looked so vulnerable that it made me instantly concerned. I was itching to move over there, but I stayed where I was. They spoke more words to each other. I was too far away to hear what they were saying. After they spoke, Reinette grabbed his hand and tugged him in the direction where I was. Once they were over to me, she let go of his hand and grabbed mine, smiling at me.

"How would you like to go to a ball?" she asked.

"Um…" I didn't know what to say as I looked towards the Doctor, who wasn't saying anything but from his eyes, I could tell that he was hesitant and that he was deep in thought about something. I turned back to Reinette, "It…uh, sounds great. But… I don't think I'm dressed for a ball. Won't it look, I don't know, odd?"

"Oh I wouldn't worry about it too much, Sophie," Reinette reassured me with a smile and a squeeze of the hand. "You'll be surprised at how odd the French dress. You'll blend in just perfectly." The last thing was said in a teasing voice and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Thanks, I do try to blend in with the French," I joked, smiling. The first true smile that I gave to Reinette and she beamed at me.

"Splendid. Well then, Doctor, Sophie, just follow me." She was the first one out the door and I titled my head to the side. When did she start calling him Doctor?

"When did she start calling you, Doctor?" I asked, voicing my thought out loud.

"I told her," he answered offhandedly, so much so that it sounded like a lie. I gave him a narrow eyed look but it disappeared as he held out a hand towards me. I blinked at it, but didn't hesitate in grabbing his hand, slipping my fingers through his. Not for the first time, I noticed how well they fit together. I shook my head out of that thought and let the Doctor lead me out the door.

As Reinette said, no one really took notice to my state of dress, having too much fun to do so. I stood off the dance floor, holding a glass of wine in my hand as I watched the people in front of me dance with one another smiling and laughing. I couldn't help but smile while watching them. The French sure knew how to throw a party.

Suddenly the Doctor burst through the crowd of people towards me. "Sophie!" he exclaimed, almost stumbling on his feet as he made his way over to me. "There you are! Been looking for you everywhere! You're one hard person to find, did you know?"

"Are you drunk?" I questioned bluntly.

The Doctor was already standing in front of me as he answered, waving his hand, "Nah, only a bit tipsy, is all! If I was drunk, I would know and I know that I'm not! Maybe you're the one that's drunk; you do have a drink in your hand, shame on you, Sophie." He wagged a finger at me, "Shame on you." He poked me in the forehead with the finger that he had wagged at me and gave me a pout.

'He's drunk.' I thought to myself, shaking my head at him internally. Then out loud, "Doctor, I think it might be good time to leave. We have to find Rose and Mickey."

"Oh, do we have to?" he whined. "I'm sure they are fine. Weeelll, maybe not Mickey, but Rosie will definitely be Alrighty."

"Doctor…"

"Oh alright!" He huffed but then grinned dopily, "But before that, dance with me."

"You're joking, right?"

"Nope." He held out a hand towards me and moved all of his fingers, gesturing for me to take his hand.

"Doctor, I'm not really good at dancing."

"Well, neither am I, but we can try. There's nothing wrong with trying. Come on, Sophie." He gave me another pout. God, how can I say no to that face? I thought to myself exasperatingly.

"Fine, I'll dance with you, but one dance and that's it."

"Brilliant!" The Doctor grinned happily at me, grabbed my hand, and pulled me on the dance floor. He let go of my hand and wrapped his arms around my waist only to pull me close to him. I couldn't help but flush at the feel of my body being pressed to him just like the way it was when we kissed in the medical bay. Luckily, the Doctor was too drunk to notice my blush as he made us sway to the music. "Look at that," he commented, grinning at me. "You are good at dancing."

"You're not so bad yourself," I said, holding back a giggle.

The Doctor's grin widened at that, "Thank you!" He spun me out before pulling me back into him and I threw my head back, letting out the giggle I tried to keep in. I rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. I could have sworn I felt him kiss the top of my head, but it must have been my imagination.

Eventually we went to find Rose and Mickey and found them, but we had to pretend to be drunk because the droids were there with a captured Rose and Mickey, who were both mangled on some sort of operating table. As we went into the room, we made some loud banging noise and sang drunkingly off key with one another.

"I could have danced all night, I could have danced all night..." We staggered into the room before Rose, Mickey, and the droids as the Doctor continued his drunk singing while dancing with me. I laughed at his singing and at his appearance. He wore his tie over his head and wore a pair of black glasses. He looked just so ridiculous.

"You are such good singer, Doctor!" I exclaimed loudly and drunkingly. "I wish I could sing half as good as you!"

"No one can sing as good as me, my dear!" The Doctor gave me a smacking kiss on the forehead before spinning me around towards where Mickey was being tied down. I had to grab onto table so that I wouldn't fall on my feet.

"Mickey!" I cried over the Doctor's singing. "You should have been to that party! It was so awesome! I have never been to a party that big and great! The French sure know how to party, don't you think so Doctor?" I questioned with a dopey grin as I flopped myself down on the chair that was near the table Mickey was on. Glancing at Mickey from the corner of my eye, he looked totally bemused by what was going on. Poor guy.

"That they do, Sophie!" The Doctor bobbed his head in agreement.

"Oh, look at what the cat dragged, the Oncoming Storm," Rose said sarcastically, glaring at the Doctor.

"Rosie, don't try to use sarcasm," I said brightly. "It doesn't work for you." Now her glare was directed towards me, but I just smiled at her innocently.

The Doctor frowned at Rose distastefully, "Oh, you sound just like your mother."

I laughed loudly. "Oh now that was a burn!"

Rose growled. "What've you two been doing?" she asked crossly. "Where've you been?!"

"Well…among other things, I think I created the banana daiquiri a few centuries earlier. Oh! And Sophie here met a few blokes, but honestly none of them were really her type."

Rose lied back on the table, exasperatingly.

"Oh?" I titled my head to the side, "And you know what my type is?"

"Nope, but they really weren't," The Doctor said offhandedly before quickly changing the subject, "Do you know, they've never seen a banana before!" He went over to Rose and leaned over her to say in a whisper as if what he was telling her was a secret, "Always take a banana to a party, Rose. Bananas are GOOD."

"They really are," I added, grinning over at Mickey. "Especially with chocolate covered all over them. Yum."

It was then that the Doctor pretended to finally take notice to the droids and he looked absolutely delighted to see them. "Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho, brilliant," he said, moving over to the droid that was near Rose, "It's you! You're my favorite, you are, you are the best! Do you know why? 'Cause you're so THICK. You're Mister Thick, Thick, Thickity, Thick Face from Thicktown, Thickania." He went to move away but then moved back to say as afterthought, "And so is your dad."

"You tell them, Doctor!" I said loudly in agreement, giving him a wink and an air fist pump. He gave me one back as he strolled away.

"Do you know what they were scanning Reinette's brain for?" The Doctor didn't wait for an answer as he sniggered, "Her milometer. They wanna know how old she is. Know why?"

"Oooh! I wanna know!" I said cheerfully, still pretending to be drunk. I leaned forward, "Tell us why, Doctor."

"'Cause this ship is thirty-seven years old. And they think that when Reinette is thirty-seven, when she's 'complete', then her brain will be compatible. So that's what your missing, isn't it?" He was over by one of the other droids in the room and he stared at it mockingly, "Hmm? Command circuit. Your computer. Your ship needs a brain. And for some reason – God knows what – only the brain of Madame de Pompadour will."

"The brain is compatible," The Droid that had been in Reinette's room and the one that was near Rose said in its mechanical voice.

"Compatible?" The Doctor scoffed as he approached the droid, "If you believe that, you probably believe this is a glass of wine." He removed the droid's mask and poured the 'wine' into the clockwork inside the head of the droid. He then replaced the mask and patted it on the head. The droid winded down and the blade that had been close to cutting off Rose's head came down and Rose leaned back in relief.

"Multi grain anti-oil," The Doctor said, suddenly sober. "If it moves, it doesn't." A droid from the corner of the room started to advance, but he quickly deactivated it using a nearby lever and he continued, "Right, you two, that's enough lying about…" He released Rose with the sonic before throwing it to me since I was near Mickey so I could release him. I did just that and he slid off of the table onto the floor with Rose following him.

"You two were pretending to be drunk?" Mickey asked me.

"Of course." I grinned and I got a head shake from Mickey but my grin only widened.

"Time we got the rest of the ship turned off," The Doctor said as he went near the droids.

Mickey watched him cautiously, "Are those things safe?"

The Doctor pulled the tie down and pushed the sunglasses up on top of his head. "Yep," he told Mickey. "Safe and thick. Way I like them. Okay, all of the time windows are controlled from here." He patted the control panel, "I need to close them down." He started feeling his pockets, frowning, "Zeus plugs. Where are my Zeus plugs?" He looked around for them, "I had them a minute ago, and I was using them as castanets." He looked at me, "Have you seen them?"

I shook my head, "I haven't seen 'em."

"Why did they just open a time window to when she was thirty-seven?" Rose questioned.

"With the amount of damage to these circuits, they'll be lucky to hit the right century. Trial and error after that." He tried to operate the computer and I tried to help him as best as I could but even with two people, we couldn't get it to work. The Doctor frowned as he looked at the computer screen, "The windows aren't closing? Why aren't they closing?"

Suddenly, there was an ominous pinging sound. Uh-oh.

"What's that?"

"I don't know…" The Doctor answered Rose over the clicking sounds. "Incoming message?"

"From who?" I looked at the Doctor.

"Report from the field…" His eyes widened in realization, "One of them must still be out there with Reinette! That's why I can't close the windows, there's an override!"

At those words, one of the droids behind him sprung to life with a whirling sound and Rose gasped. The droid expelled the 'wine' the Doctor had poured into its mechanics over the Doctor's shoe.

"Ew." My nose wrinkled.

"Well, that was a bit clever," The Doctor muttered, and the rest of the droids sprung to life, filling the room with ticking. He looked around at them, "Right…many things about this are not good."

I patted him on the shoulder as I bumped my hip with his, giving him a grin, trying to brighten up the situation to bring a smile to the Doctor's face, "Thanks for pointing out the obvious Doctor." It worked as his lips turned up into a small smile, but it went away as the pinging sounded again.

"Message from one of you little friends?" The Doctor demanded of the droids. "Anything interesting?"

"She is complete," The droid from Reinette's room answered. "It begins." And all of them teleported out of there.

"What's happening?"

"One of them must've found the right time window, and now it's time to send in the troops. And this time they're bringing her head."

I gulped.

Rose ended up having to go and talk to Reinette to tell her what was happening so I was with Mickey and the Doctor. It wasn't that much longer until we found the time window from when Reinette would be thirty-seven and Mickey went to go get Rose.

Seeing that the Doctor was busy working, I decided to go with Mickey to get Rose.

"Rose?" he called to her with me right behind him. "Rose?" We went over to this and went through it and found ourselves outside of the room, "Rose!"

She rushed out to meet us with Reinette following right behind her.

"The time window when she's thirty-seven," Mickey started off, "We found it. Right under our noses." He stopped and looked at Reinette as if he had just noticed her.

She looked at the window behind the tapestry and I knew what she was thinking of doing. Rose seemed to figure it out too and went to stop but it was too late as Reinette had already walked through the window onto the spaceship. Mickey, Rose, and I shared looks before rushing after her. From the look on her face, she looked so lost and confused, and frightened too. We could only watch her as she looked around.

"So, this is his world." Suddenly there was screaming and chaos in the distance and Reinette flinched, "What was that?"

Rose looked at me and Mickey.

I placed a comforting hand on Reinette's shoulder, the way I did when she was a little girl. She relaxed under my touch as Mickey answered Rose's unasked question,

"The time window, the Doctor fixed an auto link."

"Those screams…" Reinette hesitated as if afraid of the answer, "Is that my future?"

"It is," I told her softly, squeezing her shoulder gently. "I'm sorry, Reinette." She grabbed my free hand and squeezed it tight, looking rightfully frightened. But then she took a deep breath and took on a serious look.

"Then I must take the slower path," she said.

Then came the older Reinette's voice in the distance, "Are you there? Can you hear me? I need you now, you promised. The clock on the mantel is broken. It is time."

"That's my voice." The Reinette in front of us looked and disturbed. Mickey rushed away, but Rose and I stayed. My ex-best friend went up to her.

"Are you okay?" she asked gently.

"No, I'm very afraid," Reinette answered honestly as she looked over at her. "But you and I both know, don't we, Rose? The Doctor is worth the monsters."

Though she was saying this to Rose, she was looking at me but Rose didn't notice as she headed off leaving me alone with Reinette. I dropped my hand from her shoulder and went to leave too, but stopped at the sound of Reinette's voice,

"Oh and Sophie?"

I turned to her, "Yes?"

She met my gaze. "I would tell the Doctor how you feel about him, one day it might be too late." She smiled at me gently, giving my hand one last squeeze, before walking back through the tapestry back to her world. I stared after her, thinking about what she said. I knew she was right. I did need to tell the Doctor how I felt. But despite the fact everyone saying that the Doctor felt the same way for me, I didn't believe them. I was just a human and he was so much more than that. There was no way he could be interested in me and he most definitely couldn't be in love with me. I was snapped out my thoughts by the sound of future Reinette's voice,

"Doctor! Doctor!"

I closed my eyes for a moment before going back to where the Doctor, Mickey, and Rose were at the time window. The Doctor was working frantically as Rose asked,

"You found it, then?"

"They knew I was coming. They blocked it off."

"Do you think you can find a way to get through?" I looked at the Doctor hopefully.

"Yes, I should be able to. Just might take a while."

It was long until action was taking place at the ballroom. We could clearly see it from the time window. Rose and I were watching it happen. I was thinking about Reinette and wondering where she was.

"I don't get it," Rose said from beside me. "How come they got in there?"

"They teleported in there, remember? You were there," I reminded her, forcing myself not to roll my eyes at her question. I mean, come on, it was stupid question.

Of course she opened her mouth to retort but was interrupted by the Doctor speaking. He was still hard at work.

"As long as the ship and the ballroom are linked, their short range teleports will do the trick."

"Well, we'll go in the TARDIS!"

"We can't use the TARDIS; we're part of events now."

"Well, can't we just smash through it?"

The Doctor shook his head, "Hyperplex this side, plate glass the other. We need a truck."

"We don't have a truck," Mickey pointed out to him.

"I know we don't have a truck!" he shouted, frustrated.

I decided to speak up. "But there has to be something we can do? I mean, there is a solution for everything?"

"Not this time. Smash the glass, smash the time window, they'd be no way back."

The Doctor was gone.

He went to save Reinette.

I knew that he would have. He was the Doctor. That's what he did. He saved people and Reinette needed to be saved. I understood that, but Rose was a broken mess as she stared at the now broken time window with a sad look on her face. I knew that she thought he wouldn't go there and leave her behind. She had been together with the Doctor the longest but she didn't understand that he had to what he thought was right. And saving Reinette was the right thing. Yes, I would miss him and I would never get to tell him how I felt, but he had to save Reinette. Though I had been jealous of her, I wouldn't want her dead.

"What happened?" I turned towards Mickey, who looked confused, "Where did the time window go? How's he gotta get back?"

"Unless he can find a way, he won't be," I answered softly. I glanced over at Rose before looking back at the remains of the time window. I sighed. I told myself then and there that I wouldn't lose hope. Maybe the Doctor would find a way back…

And my hope won out in the end because he in fact did come back … five hours later.

I grinned as I hugged the Doctor back after he finished hugging Rose, "Welcome back!"

He grinned back at me, keeping his arms around my waist. "Good to be back." He released me from the hug and went to hug Mickey, but changed his mind and shook his head instead. I laughed.

"How did you find your way back, Doctor?" I asked.

"Explain later. Into the TARDIS, be with you in a sec." He rushed back to the fireplace. Mickey didn't hesitate on going into the TARDIS, but Rose stayed there watching him.

I stayed too, but I went after the Doctor, figuring that he was going to go see Reinette. I caught up to him before he got the fireplace.

"Are you going to see Reinette?" I questioned him and he nodded. "Is it alright if I come? I want to see if she's alright."

The Doctor hesitated, but nodded anyway. I took his outstretched hand and we walked the rest of the way to the fireplace.

"Reinette?" The Doctor called before he let go of my hand to kneel before the fire, trying to peer inside. "You there?"

I just knew something was wrong from that moment. "Doctor?" I said his name in concern. "She might not be there."

"No, she's there. I told her I would be back for her." The Doctor sounded so sure of himself. He stood up and brought me along with him, grabbing my hand. He triggered the fireplace and we found ourselves in the palace. But it was dark and the atmosphere felt dreadful, depressing. Like something bad had happened.

I tugged on his hand, trying to pull him back towards the fireplace. "Doctor, we should…" But I didn't get to finish as the Doctor tugged me through the halls.

"Reinette?" he called again.

But there was no one around except for King Louis, who was standing by the window, looking outside.

"Oh, hello," The Doctor greeted.

King Louis didn't look away from the window as he spoke, "You just missed her. She'll be in Paris by six."

I didn't take me long to realize where she was going. She had been buried at Paris... She must have just died. Tears filled my eyes. 'Poor Reinette.' I thought to myself sadly.

"Ah." The Doctor nodded, clearly not realizing what I had.

The King turned to stare at the Doctor and took a few steps towards him. "Good lord," he said awestruck. "She was right. She said you never looked a day older." At this, the Doctor raised his eyebrows at him, "So many years since I saw you last, yet not a day of it on your face." He walked slowly over to a sideboard and opened a drawer only to take out a letter, "She spoke of you many times."

The smile on the Doctor's face was fading as he realized what was going on and I gave his hand a squeeze, smiling at him sadly. Before he went to give the letter to the Doctor, he noticed me standing there.

"You must be Sophie," he said.

"Yeah, that's me," I told him.

"She talked about many times as well, said you were a comfort for her when she would have nightmares."

"Really?" I asked in a whisper, tears welling my eyes. Oh Reinette…

King Louis nodded. "She often wished that you two would visit again." He held out the letter towards the Doctor, who took it with his free hand and looked down at it. The King was distracted by the trash of a whip, a neighing from outside, and then the sound of hooves and he went back to the window, looking outside. "There she goes. Leaving Versailles for the last time. Only forty-three when she died."

The Doctor and I walked up slowly behind the King to watch the hearse driving away with Reinette's coffin. Glancing at the Doctor, I could see the pain in his face, one that he couldn't hide. I leaned into him in comfort and he took it, letting go of my hand to wrap his arm around my waist.

"Too young," King Louis continued, "Too young… Illness took her in the end. She always did work too hard." He turned to me and the Doctor with his eyes glistening with tears, "What does she say?"

Without a word and without looking away from the window, the Doctor silently tucked the letter inside his jacket and the King nodded.

"Of course. Quite right."

After a few moments, the Doctor turned and walked away, bringing me along with him.

"I'm sorry Doctor," I said softly, leaning my head on his shoulder. I didn't get a reply but he did pull me more closely, taking the comfort I was giving him.

We returned to the TARDIS and I headed over to Rose and Mickey, who were in the console room while the Doctor wearily closed the TARDIS doors behind him before walking slowly up to console.

"Why her?" Rose asked the Doctor quietly. "Why did they think they could fix the ship with the head of Madame de Pompadour?"

"We'll probably never know. There was massive damage in the computer, memory base. Probably got confused." The Doctor went to the controls, "The TARDIS can close down the time windows now the droids are gone. Should stop it from causing anymore trouble." He tapped on the computer, acting if nothing was wrong. But I knew that it wasn't since I knew what was wrong with him. Rose was able to sense that something was wrong.

"Are you all right?" she asked after a moment.

The Doctor looked up at her and forced a smile, "I'm always all right." He fiddled with the controls again and Rose continued to watch him. Mickey was the first one to know that the Doctor wanted to be alone and he tugged on Rose's arm.

"Come on, Rose. It's time you showed me around the rest of the place." He led her out of the console room with her glancing over at the Doctor in concern.

I stayed where I was. "Doctor," I called to him softly and he looked up at me with those big, sad eyes. "Her death wasn't your fault. Please don't blame yourself." The Doctor gulped hard but didn't respond. "Goodnight Doctor." I told him softly.

I turned a heel and walked away but didn't get that far because I heard the Doctor.

"Sophie?"

I turned to him. "Yeah?"

He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it, shaking. "Nevermind…" he mumbled. "Goodnight."

I gave him a confused look and nodded. As I walked out of the console room, I thought to Sexy,

'Do you think he'll be alright?'

'Eventually he will, but it'll just take time.' Sexy responded sadly.

I nodded and sighed to myself as I went to get to my bedroom and go to sleep.

TBC...

Next chapter isn't part of an episode, but it's own original and it is rather long as is almost done. Someone actually helped me right the next chapter, you know who you are ;), but it started with an idea of mine and grew from there. The next chapter is the one where this story turns 'M' and it will be because of language and sexual content, so if it's not your thing, don't read because this chapter tends to get a bit kinky and we have a possessive Doctor in it and we all know how he can be and the chapter also takes the Sophie/Doctor relationship to the next level. Another thing it will all be in third person with both the Doctor and Sophie's thoughts. Oh and the chapter takes place right after TGITFP ends. And here's a sneak peek of what's going to happen in the next chapter...

Sneak Peek of the next chapter called Two As One...

As soon as her eyes closed to go to sleep, she opened them only to find that she wasn't in her bed but in the consolel room. Sophie blinked confused before her eyes fell on the Doctor and she blinked again. This time even more confused than she already was. She was sure she saw him go to bed but here he was. Standing right there with... No. Shirt. On. Her face flushed at the sight of lean and toned back. He looked ... Hot to say the least. But why did he have no shirt on in the control room. It made no sense what so ever. The Doctor didn't seem to notice her so she called for him in the most timid of voices,

"Doctor?"

Startled, the Doctor jumped and whirled around to face her. Confusion was replaced with surprise then slight embarrassment. "S-Sophie?" He asked while swallowing thickly, his eyes wandering her body, especially her legs.

"Um hi." Sophie giggled nervously as she blushed, not missing the fact that his eyes were all over her but he mostly stared at her legs like he had never seen them before. She loved the way he was looking at her. It made her feel wanted and she felt warm all over. She licked her lips.

"What...what are you doing out of bed?" He asked quietly, eyes snapping up and staring at her mouth as she licked her lips. "And why are you in the console room?" His voice deepened slightly as he moved towards her. Slowly, as if he were some predator stalking its prey.

The way his voice deepened ever so slightly as he moved towards her made her quiver from the inside out.

"I..." Sophie started but she trailed off as her voice caught in her throat at the sight of his brown eyes darkening as he continued to stare at her mouth. She wondered what he was thinking and when his eyes went to her chest, she realized that she wasn't wearing a bra. She flushed.

The Doctor smirked ever so slightly at Sophie's flush. He slowly licked his lips as he eyed her chest and her obvious lack of certain clothing items. A growl slid passed his lips as his mind clouded with want and lust. His instincts were screaming at him to claim his mate, to take her them and there and make her his...

End Sneak Peek...
