A huge thanks to everyone who reviewed, favorited, and put this story on their alerts!
No sex scene in this chapter, but there are mentions of the sex scene throughout this episode. Also the beginning scene is an original one, one that a friend helped me with ;) She took the Doctor and I took Sophie in a rp and then I made it into a third person Doctor POV. It's a pretty vulnerable scene between them as it is after the whole dream. Then after that, it goes into the episode. Anyway, please leave reviews and tell me what you think of the first part of Rise of the Cybermen! :D
'No.' The Doctor thought himself, gulping hard, as pure pain surged through him when he realized he was alone. He curled up on himself as he moaned in sadness, several tears leaking from his clenched eyes. After several minutes, he slowly and dejectedly got up and ready for the day. Once he was, he sullenly made his way to the console room only to start fiddling with it as he waited for everyone to wake up.
But that didn't last long as the Doctor started to just stand there, staring at nothing in particular. His hearts felt like they were being crushed. He buried his face in his hands and whined softly, trying so hard not to cry. He didn't notice that Sophie was standing there watching him. It hurt so much! To know that he was truly alone and he had simply dreamed about having a mate. He couldn't bear it. The pain he felt was suffocating him. Suddenly, he heard Sophie's voice from behind him and he flinched at the sound of it. She said, 'Doctor,' not Theta. She wasn't his and it hurt.
"Yes," he asked, not facing her. It was only when he had plastered a fake smile on his face that he did turn around to look at her, "Good morning Sophie! How did you sleep?"
Sophie bit her bottom lip and he couldn't help but tense up as he remembered kissing those lips in his dream, but he quickly shook out of it as she answered his question,
"Oh it was good."
"That's good." There was an awkward silence between them and the Doctor couldn't help but hate it. He didn't like the awkwardness. He loved the fact that he could be himself around her, but now… it was just awkward. He would have been the one to break it, but it was Sophie who did as she took a step closer to him but still kept her distance.
"Are you feeling alright?" she asked him softly.
"I'm… I'm okay love." As soon as the endearment left his mouth, the Doctor quickly corrected himself with a slight blush on his cheeks, "Er, I mean…Sophie." He winced internally, hoping she didn't notice his slip up.
She made no comment about it, "Okay if you say so." She went up to the console and leaned against it.
The Doctor watched her, his mind replaying the dream from last night. He tried not to think about it but he couldn't help it. His eyes dilated and he licked his lip slowly as the dream continued to play in his head like a movie on repeat. He could remember every kiss, every caress, every thrust, every 'I love you,' and every tender moment that they shared in it. His hearts ached just even thinking about all of those things. He was still staring at her even when she finally met his eyes, staring right back as she finished pulling her hair up in a ponytail. His eyes flickered to her lips for a moment, wanting to kiss them. To feel them against his again. But he scolded himself as soon as that thought crossed his mind. The Doctor's eyes looked away from her lips and he would have looked away from her fully but his eyes caught sight of these bruises on her neck and his eyebrows furrowed together.
"Where did you get these from Sophie?" he asked her softly and before he could stop himself, his hand rose and brushed his fingers across the bruises. As soon as they touched her skin, he could have sworn he felt her tremble under his touch but he crossed it off as his imagination.
"I – I don't know," Sophie answered honestly. "I woke up with them this morning."
"Really?" The Doctor murmured with his fingers still brushing across the bruises. Then all of the sudden, he had a startling realization (even though deep down he knew he was jumping to conclusions) and his eyes darkened as his lips curled up in a growl, "These…" He gritted his teeth together, "These are from the men who were fawning over you at the party in France! How dare they?! I'm going to have 'chat' with them." The thought of anyone touching his mate made his blood boil and dark thoughts cloud his mind. The startled look on Sophie's face snapped him out of that.
"What?! Of course not!" she exclaimed, holding her hands up. "I would never let someone take advantage of me like that!" A hurt look crossed her face and the Doctor flinched at the sight of it, "You really think I would let that happen?"
"What? Of course I don't," he said quickly. "It's them I don't trust near you!" He pulled her into his arms and he felt her stiffen in his arms but he kept his arms around her, not wanting to let her go, "I don't trust any man around you. I don't trust them to keep you safe, protect you, or not try anything with you." He admitted to her without even thinking about it much.
"Why?" she blurted out.
"Because… I … I … I just don't," The Doctor huffed out, not wanting to tell her the truth. He pulled her closer to his body, loving the feel of her body being against his just like in the dream. It was still fresh in mind as he held her and buried his face into her neck, breathing in the sweet scene that was so uniquely her. He had to force himself from pressing a kiss to the milky skin of her neck which was hard considering the fact his lips were so close to it.
"Doctor…don't…"
He heard her breath out and he could her heart beating, and he wondered what was affecting her so. Was it him? Nah. The Doctor shook his head internally. That couldn't be it. The Doctor suddenly could feel her trying to push him away and he panicked. 'No… not yet.' he thought to himself as he tightened his grip on her and he took a deep breath before whispering in her ear in a vulnerable voice,
"Please…"
"What?" Sophie whispered back after letting out a shaky breath.
"Just…let me hold you, please," The Doctor begged as he buried his face further into her neck. For a moment, he thought she was going to push him away again because she didn't say anything for a moment.
"Okay," she finally agreed and he felt her wrap her own arms around his waist, pushing up against him with her body molding against his perfectly.
The Doctor closed his eyes, letting out a sigh of contentment as he relished in holding his ma-Sophie in his arms. He held onto her for several minutes when suddenly a humming noise coming from the TARDIS sounded, alerting him to the fact that Rose and Mickey were about to come in an any moment. His hearts clenched as Sophie jerked out of his hold, moving away from him as far as she could, not looking at him with a blush staining her cheeks. There was a blush on the Doctor's cheeks as well as he silently cursed himself for being vulnerable around Sophie.
It was then that Rose and Mickey came into the console room. The other blonde in the room had a bright smile on her face and she seemed oblivious to the fact that both him and Sophie were blushing. But not Mickey as he looked between the Doctor and Sophie with a confused look on his face.
"So, where to next?" Rose asked, still smiling.
The Doctor quickly forced a fake smile on his face. "Not sure there, Rose," he said in reply to Rose's question. "Let's put on her random, shall we?"
Rose's smile widened, "Sounds good to me, Doctor!"
"Okay then! Mickey, hold down that button right there." He pointed to the button he talking about and Mickey did as he asked. "Just for twenty nine minutes."
"Got it."
With that, everyone just settled down with Mickey still holding onto that button. As he sat down next to Rose, the Doctor looked up at Sophie, who was leaning back against the console next to Mickey, talking to him quietly. Mickey must have told her something funny because she laughed. Feeling jealousy course through him, he ignored it. He had no reason to be jealous. There was no way Sophie was interested in Mickey. Yes, he was a nice bloke but he couldn't see why Sophie would be. Then again, if it was any other man, he would say the same thing. Still ignoring the jealousy he was feeling, he went to talk to Rose.
Sophie's POV…
Whatever was wrong with the Doctor this morning, he seemed to be back to normal and I was glad. Seeing the Doctor that vulnerable was hearting breaking to see. I just wished I knew what happened to make him that way. All throughout that moment I kept on thinking about that dream. It had felt so real, like it actually happened. But that was impossible, considering it was a dream. It didn't explain though how I had the marks in the same places that the Doctor put them at in the dream. I even had bruises on my wrists from where he had tied me at and the same went for my legs… I decided not to think about it too much. It was just a dream.
"And that weird munchkin lady with the big eyes?" The Doctor said to Rose enthusiastically, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"What is he talking about?" I whispered to Mickey, who shrugged.
"No idea."
Since we both didn't know what they were talking about, we just nodded and smiled along to them as they continued to tell us this story.
"Do you remember? – The way she looked at you! And then she opens her mouth and fire comes out!"
Rose laughed, placing a hand on his arm and I watched this with narrowed eyes. "I thought I was gonna get frazzled!"
"Yeah!" The Doctor laughed. "One minute she's standing there, and the next minute – rawh!" They both mimicked fire coming out of their mouths and they laughed even harder with Rose's hand still on his arm, but the Doctor seemed not to notice that it was there.
Mickey nodded and smiled, not really following, while I was still looking at Rose's hand. "Yeah… where – where was that, then? What happened?"
"Oh, it was on this um… uh, this uh … planet thing, asteroid," The Doctor answered offhandedly, making Mickey's smile start to fade. It's a long story you had to be there." Now Mickey's smile was a frown and the Doctor frowned as well, nodding towards Mickey, "Um…what are you doing that for?"
Mickey still had his finger on that button the Doctor told him to push down on. I frowned. That happened at least an hour. Did he just forget?
"You told him to hold button down," I said slowly.
The Doctor blinked, "When was that…?"
I facepalmed. Please tell me he was joking… I knew that he wasn't though because he did look completely confused when he asked.
"About half an hour ago…" Mickey answered slowly.
"Um. You can let go."
He did that and Rose sniggered. I frowned at her, but didn't say anything.
"Well, how long's it been since I could've stopped?" Mickey asked.
"Ten minutes? Twenty? … Twenty-nine?" The Doctor smiled sheepishly.
"You just forgot me!"
"Nice job, Doctor." I crossed my arms over my chest, flashing him an annoyed look, "There are other people in this room besides Rose, you know?" I couldn't help but bit out.
He looked startled at this statement. "Of course, there are. I didn't forget him. I was just … I was calibrating. I was just … no." He nodded his head, "I know exactly what I'm doing."
And just as that left his mouth, the TARDIS console exploded violently, sending sparks and flames flying everywhere and I jumped out of the way and being the smart one, I ducked to the ground.
"Sophie!" The Doctor cried out my name.
"I'm okay!" I cried back.
The Doctor scrambled to his knees and frantically tried to operate the console.
"What happened?!" Rose exclaimed.
"The time vortex is gone! That's impossible – it's just gone!"
I stood to my feet, being careful not to be near the console and I stayed pressed to the wall of the TARDIS.
"Brace yourself! We're gonna crash!"
And crash we did, Rose, Mickey, and the Doctor were thrown backwards while I was thrown forward. I managed to catch myself on my hands only to whimper out as pain coursed through my hands, reminding myself of the buries on my wrists. Gas masks fell from the ceiling and all the light in the TARDIS had gone out. It was so dark I couldn't even see anything.
"Everyone all right? Rose – Mickey? Sophie?"
"I'm fine, I'm okay, sorry," Mickey answered and since I was beside him, he wrapped his arm around my waist to pull me slowly to my feet as he stood up. "We're both okay."
"Yep." I grimaced as I rubbed my wrists.
Once we were all standing up, the Doctor looked up at the rotor and the console. "She's dead."
"What?" A feeling of dread coming over me as I figured out who he was talking about, but I prayed that I was wrong.
There was a clicking sound as the engines cooled down. Smoke rose from the console.
"The TARDIS is dead," he whispered.
'No!' I cried out frantically in my mind before I called out for Sexy, 'Sexy?! Can you hear me?!' I didn't get a response like I always would and I started to hyperventilate as I wrapped my arms around myself.
I barely heard Mickey call for the Doctor as tears streamed down my cheeks.
"Sophie?" I felt hands cupping my face and I immediately knew it was the Doctor. I would recognize his touch anywhere. "What's wrong?" His thumbs brushed my cheeks to try and wipe away my tears.
I was soothed by his touch and his voice causing my breathing to get back to normal, but I was still crying.
"I can't…hear … her…" I answered through my tears. "The TARDIS, Doctor." I managed to catch myself from saying, 'Theta,' "I could always hear her, but now I can't… She's really dead." My eyes filled with more tears.
The Doctor looked at me surprised while still holding my face in his hands. I never told him about the fact that I could hear her voice in my head. He opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by Rose.
"We can get help, yeah."
He let go of my face, staring at me for a moment, before turning to Rose. I kept my arms around myself and Mickey put a comforting arm around my shoulders, giving me a squeeze. I gave him a thankful look and he smiled at me, patting my shoulder before moving away. I sniffed and wiped away the rest of my tears.
"Where from?" The Doctor asked Rose solemnly, suffering from the TARDIS being dead as much as I was if not more. He had known her for much longer than I had. She was the only thing he had left of his home planet. My poor Theta. Wait … no! He wasn't mine and his name is the Doctor. I told myself. It was only just a dream.
"Well, we've landed – we've got to be somewhere," Rose answered in a reassuring voice.
But he wasn't reassured and he sighed. "We fell out of the vortex, through the void, into nothingness," he said quietly as I crossed over so I could be near him and Rose. "We're in some sort of no-place… the silent realm … the lost dimension…"
"Otherwise known as London!"
We turned at Mickey's voice to him standing by the TARDIS doors, grinning. He laughed and stepped outside of the TARDIS and we followed him out after sharing looks.
And sure enough, we were in London.
"London, England, Earth. Hold on…" Mickey jumped off a low wall and picked up a paper. "First of February this year – not very far-flung, is it?" He questioned, looking over at us.
Rose jumped down off the low wall too and looked over Mickey's shoulder. The Doctor and I followed their example with the Doctor looking around at our surroundings.
"So, this is London."
"Yep."
"Just as we left it."
Mickey nodded, "Bang on."
"And that includes the zeppelins?"
Rose, Mickey, and I looked up at him then followed his gaze, turning around to see that the sky was full of zeppelins.
"Wow," I muttered, staring up at them.
"What the hell?"
"That's beautiful." Rose was looking up at them in amazement as well.
"Okay, so it's London with big international zeppelin festival," Mickey said with a shrug.
"This not your world."
"If it's not our world…" I thought about it and snapped my fingers when I got, "It's a parallel universe."
"Yeah!" Mickey looked excited, nodding his head in agreement, "It's a parallel Earth where they've got zeppelins, right?" He looked towards the Doctor.
"Must be," The Doctor said.
"What could it be if it wasn't?" I asked, raising a brow at Theta… I mean, the Doctor.
He thought about it and nodded, "Good point."
"So, a parallel world where –"Rose said, sounding off, eyes looking forward. I was the only one to follow her gaze and found myself staring at a poster of Pete Tyler, Rose's Dad. Someone who I've just seen in pictures. I stared at it amazed. He was still alive in this universe and it made me wonder about my parents… if they were alive here too. But this Pete looked nothing like the pictures Rose showed it. He was wearing a business suit and was holding a bottle of Vitex from what it said on the bottle.
"Oh, come on. You see it in films. Like an alternative to our world were everything's the same but a little different, like … I dunno – traffic lights are blue, Tony Blair never got elected…"
"And he's still alive…" Rose's voice was dazed as she continued to stare at the poster with the Doctor and Mickey finally noticing it. "A parallel universe and my dad's still alive…" She made her way over to the poster and we followed her.
"Don't look at it Rose," The Doctor told her sternly. "Don't even think about it. This is not your world."
"But he's my dad … and …" Rose touched the poster and the picture of Pete sprung to life for a moment.
"Trust me on this," he said before giving a wink and a thumbs up.
Rose stepped back. "Oh that's weird." But she was grinning, "But he's real!"
"Trust me on this."
"He's a success!" she said happily. "He was always planning these daft little schemes, health-food drinks and stuff. Everyone said they were useless. But he did it."
Suddenly, the Doctor had Rose by the shoulders and bent down slightly to look into her eyes. I had to bite back a moan, remembering the part of the dream where Theta had grasped my shoulders and pushed me against the wall of the TARDIS before having his way with me. Oh God. Unable to stop myself, I whimpered.
Luckily though it was only Mickey who heard me because the Doctor was urgently talking to Rose.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"Fine," I managed to choke out. "I'll be back, forgot something in the TARDIS." I didn't wait for an answer and I hurried back to the TARDIS, slamming the doors behind me, not even caring that it was dark.
I was actually by myself for a little. I was over by the console, staring and caressing it sadly, when the Doctor came back in without Mickey and Rose.
"Hey, where's Rose and Mickey?" I asked.
"Mickey's keeping an eye on Rose to make sure she doesn't go off trying to find her father." The Doctor came over to where I was.
"Oh okay." I nodded. It was silent between us after that. an awkward one. After the dream, I didn't know how to act around him anymore and I hated it.
"Doctor/Sophie," we said at the same time before laughing, the awkwardness breaking.
"You first," I told him after we finished laughing.
He grew serious, "About this morning…"
"Doctor, its fine," I reassured him, putting a hand on his arm without thinking about it. He glanced it before looking back up at me. "After what happened with Reinette, it's understandable."
"It's not because of Reinette, it's …" The Doctor stopped and shook his head. "Nevermind," he mumbled as he removed my hand from his arm but he didn't let go of it as he curled our fingers together.
"It's what Doctor?" I breathed out, the name 'Theta' almost came out of my lips, but I stopped myself before the T came out. My body unconsciously moved closer to his.
He stared at me, glanced down at my lips, met my eyes again, and started to lean down. My breath caught in my throat and I couldn't help but chant to myself, 'Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me…'
I licked my lips and by that time, his face was close to mine where I could see his eyes which darkened when I did this. This reminded me so much of the dream that I started to feel warm all over.
'My Sophie…'
I could have sworn that I heard the Doctor's voice in my head but I ignored it as it couldn't be. If he was going to kiss me, it never came because Mickey walked into the TARDIS without Rose. Something the Doctor noticed right away and he rounded on him. I stood there and watched, disappointment washing over me. I guess he could only just kiss me in a dream…
"I told you to keep an eye on her," he told him angrily.
"She's all right—"Mickey said dismissively.
"She goes wandering off – parallel world! It's like a gingerbread house! All those temptations calling out."
"Oh, so it's just Rose then? Nothing to tempt me and Sophie."
As soon as he said that, I thought of my parents but I shook it off, deciding at that moment not to go look for them. I didn't want to be disappointed.
"Well, I don't know, I can't worry about everything… if I could just this thing to—"He actually kicked the TARDIS console in his frustration and I stifled a giggle at the grimace that crossed his face when he did it. He scowled to himself as he walked over to a chair and sat down on it.
"Did that help?" I asked amused, letting the giggle out.
"Yes."
"Did that hurt?" Mickey was looking at him amused too.
"Yes." The Doctor rubbed his foot and Mickey and I grinned at each other.
