Rose's Third POV Continued…

After finding Sophie, who had gotten the same message on her mobile, they went to go see Danny in Ood Habitation.

"Hey!" Sophie greeted.

"Evening!" The Doctor said afterwards.

"Only us!"

Danny was working at the computer that was there and he didn't turn around to look at them. "The mysterious trio," he said in greeting. "How are you, then? Settling in?"

"Yeah, sorry, straight to business, the Ood – how do they communicate?" The Doctor questioned. "I mean, with each other?"

True to the name of the area, the Ood sat in an area below them in what looked like an animal pen. Sophie stared at them with a sadden expression.

"Poor Ood…" she whispered beside Rose quietly.

The blonde rolled her eyes internally. She had no idea how the Doctor couldn't see through this sweet and caring act. Then again, no one could.

Danny shrugged at the Doctor's question, not looking away from the computer. "Oh just emphasis," he said. "There's a low telepathic field connecting them. Not that it does THEM much good." He snorted, earning a narrowed eyed look from Sophie and it looked like she was about to say something, but it was cut off by the Doctor putting a hand on her shoulder and shaking his head lightly at her. The hand slid off her shoulder when she closed her mouth and slipped into her hand, tangling their fingers together. Rose pursed her lips together tightly, seeing this. "They're basically a herd race. Like cattle."

"Do you know if it can pick up message?" Sophie asked.

Rose ignored the hand holding for the time being to tell Danny, "Cos I was having dinner, and one of the Ood said something…well…odd."

"Oh. An Ood." He sounded like he didn't know what the big deal was and Rose added,

"And then I got something else on my er…" She glanced at the Doctor. "Communicator thing."

"And I got the same message," Sophie said.

"Oh, be fair. We've got whole star systems burning around us. There's all sorts of stray transmission. Probably nothing."

The Doctor, Sophie, and Rose stared at him, far from convinced that it was nothing. He noticed their stares as he turned around to look at them and he sighed. "Look…if there was something wrong, it would show. We monitor the telepathic field. It's the only way to look after them. They're so stupid, they don't even tell us if they're ill."

The Doctor nodded at the computer, "Monitor the field – that's this thing." On the screen, there was a reading that said, 'Basic 5.'

"Yeah. But like I said, it's low telepathy. They only register as Basic 5."

"Well, that's not Basic 5." And it sure wasn't. As Danny was talking, the reading had rose to Basic 6 and it kept on rising. "10…"

Something caught Rose's eye.

The Ood suddenly rose their heads in unison as the reading kept on rising and rising.

"20…" The Doctor turned to Danny. "They've gone up to Basic 30."

"But they can't…"

Because he didn't see what the Ood did, Rose opened her mouth to tell the Doctor, but Sophie got to it first. Of course she did. She thought bitterly.

"Doctor, the Ood…" Sophie stared at the Ood with wide eyes and her grip on the Doctor's hand tightened as the Ood turned their heads as one to look at the four of them. "What does Basic 30 mean?" She asked, turning her head towards Danny, who looked baffled by what was happening.

"Well, it means that they're shouting – screaming inside their heads," he answered, his tone of voice matching the look on his face.

"Or something's shouting at them," The Doctor said quietly.

"Yeah," Sophie agreed just as quietly. "But what?"

Quickly shaking out of his bafflement, Danny began tying on the keyboard. "But…where's it coming from? What is it saying? I mean…" He turned to Rose. "What did it say to you?"

"Something about the beast in the pit," Rose told him.

Danny blinked at her before asking, this time directed towards Rose and Sophie, "What about your communicator?" he asked. "What did that say?"

"He is awake," Sophie informed after a small somewhat dramatic pause.

"And you will worship him," The Ood said as one once those words left her mouth.

The Doctor addressed the Ood, letting go of Sophie's hand to go up to the railing and rest his hands upon it as he stared down at the Ood. "He is awake."

"And you will worship him," they said as one again.

"Worship who?" The man Rose loved demanded of the Ood. There was no response. "Who's talking to you? Who is it?"

If they were going to reply, they didn't have time to as the entire shook madly. The Doctor, Rose, Sophie, and Danny got thrown violently around. They struggled to regain their balance.

Sophie looked about ready to throw up as she swayed on her feet and Rose was tempted to knock her over. Of course she repressed that urge as she couldn't do that with the Doctor right there.

The Doctor steadied her by grabbing onto her shoulder with one of his hands while the other rested on the middle of her back, rubbing it gently. Her eyes met with his and they seemed to have a silent conversation. Sophie gave a nod to the Doctor and a pat on his shoulder as if to say she was fine and he nodded back at her.

'What was that about?' Rose asked herself, her eyes narrowing at the couple.

It was then that the computer sounded, "Emergency hull breach. Emergency hull breach."

"Which section?" Danny asked into his wrist communicator, his voice scared.

"Everyone…" Came Zach's voice and he was urgent. "Evacuate 11 to 13, we've got a breach! The base is open. I repeat: the base is OPEN."

Rose groaned to herself as she, the Doctor, Sophie, and Danny ran out of the Ood habitation. This couldn't get any worse. If only she knew.

Sophie's POV…

The Doctor, Rose, and I burst back into the canteen area, followed by Danny. I was breathing heavy, but not because of the running, but because I was feeling scared. What was going on?

What was up with the Ood?

What was this Beast in the Pit?

And what were we going to do?

All these questions were racing through my mind as we continued running. We met up with the rest of the crew, who was coming in the opposite direction that we were.

"And you too, Toby!" Jefferson pulled a flustered Toby through the door quickly, causing him to trip over his feet and fall straight on his face as Jefferson slammed the door shut.

"Breach sealed," The computer suddenly sounded and I let out of sigh of relief internally. "Breach sealed."

The Doctor dashed over to them. "Is everyone alright?! What happened? What was it?"

"Oxygen levels normal."

"Hull breach." Jefferson panted. "We were open to the elements. A couple minutes and we'd have been inspecting that black hole at close courters."

I noticed Toby on the ground and went over to help him. I kneeled before his sweating and panting form, looking at him concerned.

"Are you alright?"

He didn't say anything.

"Toby?" I said his name gently.

"That wasn't a quake." At the sound of my mate's voice, I looked up at him to see he was frowning. "What caused it?"

"We lost sections 11 to 13," Zach said then with concern in his voice, he asked, "Is everyone alright?"

Jefferson nodded as he spoke into his wrist comm. "We got everyone except for Scooti? Scooti, report. Instead of getting contact with her, static and a beep, so he tried again, "Scooti Manista? That's an order. Report." But he got the same results.

I chewed on my lower lip. Though I hadn't known her for long, I hoped that Scooti was alright.

"She's alright," Zach told us, causing Ida and Jefferson to sigh in relief while I let go of my lip and smiled happily. "I picked up her bio-chip, she's in habitation three. Better go and check if she's not responding, she might be unconscious."

From the corner of my eye, I saw that Toby was doing something. Once I looked at him fully, I saw he was turning his hands back and forth, looking down at them intently. I frowned. What was he doing that for?

"How about that, eh? We survived."

"Habitation three…" Jefferson turned to look at everyone, "Come on, I don't often say this but I think we all should do with a drink. Come on." Everyone, but Toby, Rose, the Doctor, and I followed him down the corridor.

The Doctor kneeled on the other side of Toby. "What happened?" he asked him.

His entire body was shaking and I couldn't help but rub his shoulder soothingly, hoping it would stop his body from shaking. It didn't work, though.

When he spoke, he talked really fast and sounded very flustered, "I don't – I dunno, I – I was working and then I can't remember. All – all that noise, the room was falling apart, there was no air—"

I cut him off. "Okay, calm down," I told him gently. "And take some deep breaths." He did as I said and once he was calm, I helped him up to his feet and one of his arms gripped my waist (something my mate growled at mentally), "Come on, let's catch up with the others." When we got to Habitation Three, Jefferson turned to us, looking hopeful.

"Have you seen Scooti?" he asked.

"No, no, no, I don't think so," Toby answered, moving towards the group.

Ida spoke into her wrist device, "Scooti, please respond, if you can hear this, please respond – Habitation Six."

"Nowhere here. Zach, we got a problem. Scoot's still missing."

"It says Habitation 3."

"Yeah, well, that's where I am, and I'm telling you she's NOT HERE."

There was silence until the Doctor spoke. "I've found her…" he said quietly.

I glanced at my mate to see he was looking upwards and I moved over to his side before following his gaze just like every else. What I saw made me let out a small cry as tears filled my eyes.

Scooti was floating eerily outside of the overhead window.

"Oh, my God…" Rose gasped, a hand flying to her mouth.

Not wanting to look anymore and not caring if Rose was in the room, I buried my face into the Doctor's chest, my tears falling on his suit. His arms instantly pulled me close and I snuggled into him as I continued to cry.

"Sorry, I'm so sorry," The Doctor whispered as his arms tightened around me and his chin rested on the top of my head.

"Captain…" Jefferson's voice was quiet. "Report Officer Scootori Manista PKD…deceased. 43K2.1."

"She was twenty…" I heard Ida whisper and my eyes closed tightly, more tears dripping down my cheeks. "She was twenty-one years old."

Once I calmed down and my tears were gone, I lifted my face out of his chest with tear stains of my cheeks. I turned around his arms, wanting to stay right where I was. In the loving embrace of my mate. I stared up at Scooti as she drifted away, closer to the black hole as the shutters to the window started to close.

"How did this…happen…?" I managed to ask with my voice shaking.

"I wish I knew…" The Doctor whispered as he rubbed my hips soothingly.

I didn't say anything as I closed my eyes and let out a shaky breath, leaning back against Theta.

"For how should Man die better than facing fearful odds? For the ashes of his father…and the temples of his Gods…" Jefferson said, his voice turning into a whisper at the end.

I opened my eyes and wiped away my tears as the shutters shut all the way, leaving the atmosphere dark and gloomy. Everything was at a standstill and…it was strangely quiet. You couldn't hear the drilling anymore.

"It's stopped…" Ida said, breaking the silence, and there was a distant crash.

"What was that? What is it?" Rose asked as she went to stand next to the Doctor. I moved out of my mate's grip instantly to stand on the other side of him.

"The drill," he replied simply.

"We stopped drilling, we made it," Ida explained. "Point Zero."

With that, everyone got prepared to go down the mineshaft including my mate, who I knew would, so he could find out what was going on. I watched as he walked over to Zach, dressed in a bright orange spacesuit and holding his helmet on his side.

The Captain stared at him with a strange expression, but Theta didn't seem to notice as he spoke, grinning.

"Reporting as a volunteer for the expedition force," he informed.

"Doctor, this is breaking every single protocol. We don't even know who you are."

"Yeah, but you trust me, don't you? And you can't let Ida go down there alone. Go on…" Theta looked at Zach straight in the eye. "Look me in the eye…yes you do, I can see it. Trust."

This didn't seem to convince him. "I should be going down there."

"The Captain doesn't lead the mission. He stays here. In charge."

"Not much good, am I?" Zach said bitterly. My mate didn't say anything, just stared at him until he sighed and addressed everyone, "Positions! We're going down in two. Everyone, positions!"

It was then that Theta looked my way and at once, we walked towards each other, our eyes locking. As always it felt like we were the only two in the room. We stopped in front of one another as my mate checked a device on his spacesuit.

"Oxygen…nitro balance…gravity…" He looked back at me with a grin on his lips. "It's been ages since I wore one of these!"

I laughed softly at his excitement before looking up at him seriously. "I want you to be careful down there, I don't want to see one scratch on that spacesuit, okay?"

He nodded. "Okay," he told me softly and then he sat down his helmet to cup my face in his hands since Rose was nowhere in sight. I automatically leaned into his touch, "Everything's going to fine. Don't worry about me."

"Too late for that," I mumbled, earning a quiet laugh from him.

"Then try not to worry too much."

It was my turn to chuckle. "I think I can do that."

My mate gave me a soft and loving smile as he dropped his hands from my face. He went to pick up his helmet from off the ground to put it on, but I stopped him.

"Wait…" Before he could say anything, I pulled him down for a soft, passionate kiss.

He kissed me back and this time deepened the kiss, winding his arms around my waist and pulling me close to his body while his tongue parted my lips, gliding along mine gently. We kissed for what seemed like forever, but it acutally lasted a couple minutes. It ended and of course, I was breathless by the end of it.

"I'll see you later," my Theta said with complete confidence as he put on his helmet and locked it on.

"Not if I see you first," I told him breathlessly.

He gave me another smile as he stared into my eyes. "I love you, Sophie."

I smiled back at him. "I love you too." I pulled his head back down to kiss the top of his helmet. When I pulled back, I let him go and watched him head over to join everyone else.

I didn't see Rose, who had seen and heard everything.
