Sophie's POV…

When it looked like I hit a dead-end street, I gave a groan to myself. Great. Dead end.

I sighed, deciding to make my way back to the Doctor, but I didn't get far, having a strange feeling come over me. I frowned, looking around. It was quiet out here. Too quiet. The only sound that was on this street was a dog barking.

I shivered as I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling cold. I didn't like being here, especially by myself. There was nothing here anyway. So, I continued my way to find my mate. Only to be stopped again.

I passed one of the garages where I heard loud banging coming from inside, making me jump and turn around to face it.

I frowned at it. What the hell was that?

After that crash, it was followed by smaller crashes.

Still frowning, I moved closer to the garage. "Hello?" I called towards it. "Who's there?"

There was another sound, but this one sounded a bit different. It sounded like something metal was rolling around in there. It was weird.

I stood in front of the garage and pressed my ear to it. As soon as I did this, there was another loud crash. I jumped, hopping back from the garage as my heart leaped out of my chest.

I calmed after a few minutes and I hesitated for a moment. I knew that I shouldn't open the garage. In scary movies, you never open something where a strange sound was coming from it.

But my curiosity got the better of me. I took a deep breath and let it out as I tentatively opened the garage door. I looked inside, then something jumped out at me.

I cried out, tumbling to the ground as I was ambushed by what resembled a very violent tangle of wires and it was making a strange buzzing sound. I tried to fight it off myself.

"Get off of me!" I exclaimed in what sounded like a screech. I tried to bat it away from me but I ended up getting scratched in the process. I yelped. "Ow!"

"Soph!" I heard my mate cry out my name. "Stay still!"

"How's that going to help?!" I retorted.

"Just do it!"

I listened to him. Then I heard the familiar sound of the sonic and I held out my hands, the thing falling into them. I breathed a sigh of relief as I sat up and looked down at the thing that was now in my hands. It looked like a ball now.

I looked up to see my mate rushing over to me. "Sophie, are you alright?" he asked, concerned. He pulled me to my feet, inspecting me from head to toe, like always.

"I'm fine." I reassured him as he grabbed my hand that got scratched. "Just got a scratch."

He inspected it for a moment, smoothing his thumb across it. It was just a tiny scratch, nothing to worry about. And my mate wasn't.

He lifted up my hand and kissed it, a sigh escaping my lips at the feeling. Then he pulled me into a quick hug. It ended too quickly for my taste, but he still stayed close to me, one arm still wrapped around my waist protectively as we turned our attention to the ball in my hand.

"I'll give you a fiver if you can tell me what the hell it is." My mate poked it with the sonic. "'Cos I haven't got the foggiest."

"Neither do I, and I was attacked by it." I said, twirling the ball in my hand before lifting it up so I could look at it closely. "What exactly did you to do it with the sonic? Did you kill it?"

He took it from me and shook his head. "It was never living." He explained. "It's animated by energy. Same energy that's snatching people." He threw it up and down, looking quite delighted now, instead of concerned. "That is so dinky! The Go-Anywhere creature. Fits in your pocket…makes friends, impresses the boss…breaks the ice at parties." He put it in his pocket and grinned at me.

I just laughed at him and kissed his cheek before resting my head on his shoulder as we moved on.

Back in the TARDIS, my mate was analyzing the object and I watched as my head stayed on his shoulder. For some reason, I wasn't exactly feeling all that great. It happened so suddenly too. But being near my mate made me feel a little better.

On the screen, there was Gallifreyan symbols on it and I actually understood it. Theta had actually been teaching me some Gallifreyan when we weren't traveling. He told me I was actually quite good at it.

The results didn't take that long to pop up and Theta grinned. "Oh – hi ho, here we go. Let's have a look." Then he looked surprised. "Get out of here…"

"What's it say?" I asked, lifting my head from his shoulder. What? I said I learned some Gallifreyan. I still had a lot to learn.

He didn't respond as he took a pencil from his pocket and held up the ball in front of him. I watched in curiosity as he used the eraser to rub out part of the object. It worked and it was my turn to look surprised.

"It is!" Theta exclaimed. He blew on the object, the part where he erased disappearing. "It's graphite! Basically the same material as an HB pencil."

"Wait, so I was attacked by a pencil scribble?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Scribble creature." He corrected as he sniffed it, then moved it towards me so I could smell it. I sniffed and recognized the smell. "Brought into being with ionic energy. Whatever we're dealing with, it can create things as well as take them." My mate frowned. "But…why make a scribble creature?!"

"I don't know…unless it was a mistake…I mean, a child always seem to scribble out their drawing if they made a mistake on it…" As soon as those words left my mouth, realization hit me. "The little girl!"

Theta's eyes widened. "OF COURSE!"

I looked at him, amused. "You have no idea who I'm talking about, do you?"

My mate didn't bother denying it. "No clue! So, what little girl?"

"When we were on the street with the neighbors, I noticed a little girl watching us from one of the houses. She gave me the creeps…even her mother looked scared of her." And that was saying something.

Theta smirked, leaning in towards me. Geez, he was too sexy for his own good.

"Are you deducting?" he purred.

I smirked back. "Sure am, why? Do you find it sexy?" I teased, sliding my hands down his chest.

"Very sexy." He growled, sending shivers down my spine as his hand slid across my hips, bringing me close to him.

"Mm…then I think we need to follow up on it…" It was my turn to purr, flushing my body against his own, earning a groan. His hands moved to my bum, gripping me there. This earned him a moan and he smirked widely at me.

"Oh most definitely…but first…" His mouth met mine before I could say anything. His kiss was demanding and greedy. It had been awhile since we had sex, if you could believe it, so it wasn't a surprise that his kiss was that way.

Soon, he had me pressed against the console, his tongue in my mouth.

Nothing happened with our kiss, except for messed up hair and love marks on our skin as I ended it before anything else could happen. I had to put a scarf around my neck to hide the marks while my mate only propped up his collar.

We went to the little girl's house after learning the mother's name was Trish and I knocked on the door before smoothing my hands down my outfit to get out the wrinkles.

I looked over at Theta. "Think she'll answer?"

He didn't have time to answer as the door flung open, revealing Trish on the other side. She looked suspicious, and I don't think the cheesy smiles we gave her helped her suspicion.

"Hello!" My mate greeted cheerfully. "I'm the Doctor and this is my girlfriend, Sophie McQueen. Can we see your daughter?"

"No! You can't." Trish denied quickly.

Theta didn't even blink. "Okay! Bye." He gave her a grin and turned around to leave.

"Nice talking to you." I said to her brightly before I followed my mate, holding his hand as we walked away. One…two…three…

"Why?" she called after us. We turned back around and she stared at us. "Why do you want to talk to Chloe?"

Theta snuffed his hands in the pockets of his pants. "Well, there's something interesting stuff going on in this street, and I just thought – well, we thought – that she might like to give us a hand."

"Yeah, but if you don't want her to, that's fine. We understand." I smiled warmly at her. "Sorry to bother you."

"Yeah, sorry." Theta agreed. "We'll let you get on with things. On your own." He flashed her a smile. "Bye again!"

"See ya!" I added and we turned around to walk away again. But after a few moments, there was Trish's voice again.

"Wait!"

We turned again and the look on her face broke my heart. She looked helpless, her brown eyes showing how tired she was, how valuable she was. Whatever was going on with her daughter, she wanted answers, just like Theta and I thought she would.

"Can you help her?" she asked.

He smiled at her. "Yes, I can."

"She stays in her room, most of the time." Trish said softly as we went into the sitting room. I sat down on the couch while my mate tossed his coat onto the couch. But I pulled the coat into my lap to keep myself warm and still wanting him close to me without him sitting next to me. "I try talking to her, but it's like speaking to a brick wall. She gives me nothing, just asks to be alone." She sighed sadly and I felt bad for her.

"What about her dad?" I asked, but it was hesitant question. Since Trish never mentioned him, I knew the answer could be either that he was dead, or they got a divorce.

Trish tensed at the question. "Chloe's dad died a year ago."

So it wasn't the latter.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

Trish crossed her arms, snorting a bit. "You wouldn't be if you knew him."

"Well still, I know what it's like to lose someone especially so young." I said softly, getting a bit emotional as I thought of my own father. Okay, I was a lot emotional. My eyes teared up but I rubbed them to get rid of the tears. Geez, why was I getting so emotional?

Trish shifted awkwardly on her feet at the sight of my tears while my mate looked at me concerned. He didn't comment out loud or mentally as he changed the subject, his voice bright.

"Well! Let's go and say hi!" he said.

The older woman looked hesitant. "I should check on her first…she might be asleep."

My mate stared at her seriously. "Why are you afraid of her, Trish?"

She took a deep breath. "I want you to know before you see her that's she's really great kid."

"I'm sure she is."

I got a hold of myself and told her in a reassuring tone, "We never said that she wasn't."

Trish just nodded as she went on. "She's never been in trouble at school…you should her report from last year. As and Bs." She smiled proudly and I smiled back. This Chloe sounded like a nice kid.

Suddenly, a queasy feeling hit me and I forced myself not cover my mouth. "Um…can I use your bathroom…I mean…the loo?" My voice sounded a bit strangled, trying to keep myself from throwing up right on the spot. She nodded and I practically jumped to my feet. "Thanks!"

I felt my mate watching me closely with a frown but I ignored it.

"She's in the choir." I heard Trish say to my mate as I ran up the stairs, her voice carrying. "She's singing in the old folk's home. Any mum would be proud."

She did say something else but I was in the bathroom and the door was closed, cutting her off.

Now, the only sound ringing in my ear was me throwing up quietly in the toilet.

What was the matter with me?
