Sophie's POV...

Once I finished throwing up, I felt a whole lot better and I sighed, lifting my head up as I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. Honestly, I still had idea what was wrong. It was probably nothing, I must have ate something bad last night, or something like that.

I shook my head as I went to leave the bathroom. I opened the door but before I could step out, I heard the sound of a door opening and I held back a squeak as I closed the door but left a little crack, so I was out of sight but could see who it was. It was a young girl, who I figured was Chloe, and she headed downstairs.

Once I couldn't hear her footsteps anymore, I left the bathroom, letting out a breath of relief as I shut the door quietly. Unconsciously, my hand landed on my stomach for some reason. I didn't notice that I did it though.

My eyes went to Chloe's bedroom. I knew I shouldn't go in there without permission but maybe something in there would help my mate and I figure out what was going on with the disappearing kids.

I bit my lip, hesitating for a moment, before I went over to Chloe's bedroom and stepped inside.

Surveying the room, I took immediate notice to all of the drawing plastered up on the walls. I frowned as I looked each one of them over and landed on one of a little boy who was frowning. Strange…

I moved further into the room to look around some more. I didn't get to look that thoroughly because the wardrobe doors rattled loudly. It startled me so much that I gasped and jumped backwards, almost tripping on my own feet. I quickly grabbed a hold of something to keep myself from falling. In the process, a pencil holder fell onto the floor. Gaining my composure, I quickly picked all the pencils up and put it back where it fell from. Then I gasped sharply when my eyes fell on that drawing of the boy again. This time, instead of frowning, he was baring his teeth at me.

What…then hell…?

Once again, the wardrobe doors shook and I forced myself not to jump. Geez, I was so jumpy today.

I shook it out and straightened my back as I slowly approached the wardrobe. I had a bad feeling about this but I still walked over there, despite my gut telling me not to.

I opened the doors cautiously and peered inside. The clothes were ruffling in the…wind? How is that possible?

I pushed the clothes out of the way, almost getting blinded by the red light coming from the back of the wardrobe.

My eyes widened, seeing something else back there. It was another picture on the wall, but this one was different.

This picture was of a bearded man and his face was contorted with fury. The red light had been coming from his eyes. He looked demented to say the least and it left a bad feeling in my stomach. My eyes widened even more when the picture actually spoke.

"I'm coming!" it roared.

It was terrifying and one of my arms went around my stomach, almost in a protective way as I screamed. "THETA!"

Though I was scared, I stayed where I was as if I was unable to move.

"I'm coming to hurt you!"

Suddenly, I was pulled back and the wardrobe doors slammed shut. I whirled around only to find Theta as he grasped my shoulders. Before he could say anything, I blurted out.

"Theta, you have to look inside!" I exclaimed as my arm tightened around my stomach.

"No thanks." He said simply and I just looked at him confused as he walked away to examine the drawing on the wall, slipping on his sexy specs.

"What the hell was that?" Trish demanded, finally making me notice that she was there. As was Chloe.

"It was a drawing." I informed her, managing to get a hold of myself as I rubbed my stomach unconsciously. "A face of a man."

"What face?" Trish questioned, confused. She tried to open the doors of the wardrobe, but I cut in front of her, pressing myself against the door.

"You don't want to look in there." I warned. "Trust me."

Trish stared at me before she turned to look at Chloe. "What have you been drawing?"

"I drew him yesterday." Chloe said, point blank as she stared at her mother.

"Who?"

"Dad."

Trish's face darkened, her eyes flashing in surprise with a distasteful smile on her face. "Your dad? But he's long gone. Chloe." She sounded exasperated now, "Chloe, with all the lovely things in the world – why him?"

"I dream about him, staring at me."

Trish sighed. "I thought we were putting him behind us." She said to her daughter gently. "What's the matter with you?"

Chloe ignored the question. "We need to stay together." She responded adamantly.

Trish nodded, agreeing with Chloe. "Yes, we do."

"No." Chloe said sharply. "Not you. Us."

Theta turned at this, but I didn't know why. Maybe he knew something I didn't.

"We need to stay together. And then, it'll be alright."

Concerned, Trish crossed over to Chloe as she placed her hands on the girl's cheeks. She actually flinched at her mum's touch and Trish looked hurt.

I didn't want to interrupt, but I had something to say. Even if it was something the woman didn't want to hear.

"Trish, Chloe's paintings…" I started off slowly. "Did you ever look at them and see what they can do?"

Instead of answering me, she got defensive with a heated glare towards me on her face. "Who gave you permission to go into her room?" she snapped coldly. I flinched. "Get out of my house!"

"Tell us about the drawings, Chloe." My mate said calmly.

Protective mum mode kicked in and Trish's arm went around her daughter. She looked infuriated beyond belief. "I don't wanna hear any more of this."

I should have kept my mouth shut, but Trish needed to hear it. "The drawing of her dad spoke to me. Spoke to me and it was real."

"He's dead!" Trish exclaimed and she angrily gestured to the pictures on the wall. "And these – they're kids pictures! Now get out!"

I kept going, stepping to my feet. "Chloe has a power. I'm not sure what it is, but she has one. One that's obviously powerful enough take kids right off the street! Dale Hicks…Danny Edwards…all those kids who are on those missing posters…"

"I said get out!"

This time, I tried the pleading approach. "Trish, please." I pleaded with her. "You must have saw those pictures move, at least once?"

"I haven't seen anything…" Her voice faltered a bit.

I opened my mouth to say something, but my mate's voice in my head stopped me.

'Let me take it from here.' He told me and I kept my mouth shut. Maybe he would have better luck than I have.

"Yes you have." Theta spoke up, still in that calm voice. "Out of the corner of your eye."

Trish turned to him and shook her head. "No."

"And you dismissed it." He went on as if she didn't say anything and stared right into her eyes. "Because what choice do you have when you see something that you can't explain?" He slowly moved over to her. "You dismiss it, right? And if anyone mentions it, you get angry, so it never gets spoken of, ever ag—"

"She's a child!" Trish cut him off.

"And you're terrified of her. But there's no one to turn to, because who's gonna believe the things you see out of the corner of your eye? No one. Except me."

She said nothing for a moment. "Who are you?"

"I'm help."

Going into the kitchen, I leaned back against the counter and my mate swiped a jar marmalade off of it.

I stared at him as he unscrewed the lid, dipped his fingers into it, and started sucking the jam off of his fingers. I flashed him a look as he looked up at me.

I shook my head at him. "No…" I mouthed to him. "Don't do that."

He looked like a kid caught in a candy store and I tried not to giggle at him because it was a cute look on him. He then glanced at Trish, who was staring at him oddly, and he meekly replaced the lid before he pushed the jar behind him.

'Theta, I love you, but you can be such a dork.' I thought to him with a giggle.

'I'll take that as a compliment, love.' He thought back, winking.

I shook my head, then I spoke to Trish. "Those pictures – they're alive." I said. "She's drawing people and they end up in her pictures."

"Ionic energy." Theta said, crossing his arms over his chest. "Chloe's harnessing it to steal those kids and place them in some kind of holding pen made up of ionic energy."

"So what about her dad?" I asked Theta.

"How many times do I have to tell you? He's dead."

I didn't say anything in response.

"If living things can become drawings, then maybe drawings can be living things…" Theta mumbled in thought. He shuddered violently and I couldn't help but jump a little. Then he went on. "Chloe's real dad is dead, but not the one who visits in her nightmares. That dad seems very real. That's the dad she's drawn and he's a heartbeat away from crashing into this world…"

That wasn't scary at all.

I shook my head.

Trish sighed sadly. "She always got the worse of it when he was alive."

This made me look over at her with a sad frown before I looked back over at my mate. "But Theta…how can a twelve year old girl do this?" I questioned concerned.

He paused for a moment. "Let's find out." He went over to me, grasped my hand, and we left the kitchen with Trish right behind us.

We came into Chloe's room, finding her sitting down cross-legged on the edge of her bed. My mate let go of my hand and went to stand in front of her, staring down at her. Chloe said nothing as she gave my mate the 'live long and prosper' sign.

"Nice one." Theta told her as he kneeled down in front of her. He reached forward and placed his hands on either side of her head, fingers on her temples. Chloe's eyes rolled back before they closed. My mate's eyes closed as well as she fell backwards on the bed. "There we go…"

"I can't let him do this…" Trish went to stop, but I gently grabbed a hold of arm.

"It's okay." I told her reassuringly and she looked up at me, concern in her eyes. "He's not hurting her. You just have to trust him

Trish said nothing, but she did nod and stepped back. Theta straightened up his back.

"Now we can talk." He said, addressing Chloe.

When she spoke, her voice was completely different from before. It was a strange whisper.

"I want Chloe. Wake her up. I want Chloe."

He ignored that. "Who are you?"

"I want Chloe Webber!"

"What've you done to my little girl?!" Trish exclaimed, upset, and I rubbed her shoulders in comfort.

Theta walked slowly around the bed, all the while looking down at Chloe. "I'm speaking to you. The entity that is using this human child. I request parlez in compliance with the Shadow Proclamation."

"I don't care about shadows or parlez."

"So what do you care about?"

"I want my friends."

Theta kneeled down by her, a soft look on his face. "You're lonely, I know. Identity yourself."

"I am one of many. I travel with my brothers and sisters. We take an endless journey. A thousand of your lifetimes. But now I am alone. I hate it. It's not fair. I hate it!" Her eyes flew open.

This made me feel sad for whatever was inside Chloe. No one should have to be alone.

"Name yourself!" Theta demanded.

"Isolus."

A look of realization crossed my mate's face. "You're Isolus. Of course."

"Our journey began in the Deep Realms when we were a family." She started to explain, still in a whisper as she began drawing on a paper beside her, speaking as she did so.

Trish eyed the picture. "What's that?"

The drawing began to take shape on the paper.

"The Isolus Mother, drifting in Deep Space." Theta responded as he stood up to his feet. "See, she jettisons millions of fledging spores. Her children. The Isolus are empathic beings of intense emotions, but when they're cast off from their mother, their need for each other, is what sustains them." His eyes met mine as he explained this. It sounded like the mating connection my mate and I had…

"Our journey is long."

My mate looked back at Chloe. "The Isolus children travel, each inside a pod. They ride the heat and energy of solar tides. It takes thousands and thousands of years for them to grow up."

I shook my head, my eyes sad. "Poor things…" I said softly, a hand being placed on my stomach. My eyes fell on Chloe. "Don't you ever get bored?"

"No…we play."

"Play?" I glanced up at Theta.

He nodded as he sat down on the bed. "Mm…while they travel, they play games." He said. "They use their ionic power to literally create make believe worlds in which to play."

"Wow…" I mumbled.

"Helps keep them happy. While they're happy, they can feed off each other's love. Without it, they're lost." I smiled sadly as my mate went back to paying attention to Chloe. "Why did you come to Earth?"

"We were too close." She ripped the piece of paper she was drawing on and started drawing on a new one.

Theta looked down at the drawing. "There's a solar flare from your sun. Would've made a tidal wave of solar energy that scattered the Isolus pods."

"Only I fell to Earth…" Chloe said sadly. "My brothers and sisters are left up there. And I cannot reach them. So alone."

My heart broke even more for the creature.

"Your pod crashed…where is it?" Theta asked.

"My pod was drawn to heat…and I was drawn to Chloe Webber. She was like me. Alone. She needed me. And I her."

Theta gave a sad smile as he stroked Chloe's head in comfort. The gesture was sweet and fatherly. It made my stomach flutter.

"You empathized with her." Theta said softly. "You wanted to be with her because she was alone like you."

"I want my family. It's not fair." Chloe's voice turned into a sad whimper.

My eyes teared up and Trish was obviously affected by this too. She must have not realized how alone her daughter truly felt.

"I understand." His voice was still soft and gentle while he continued to stroke her head. "You wanna make this a family. But you can't stay in this child. It's wrong. You can't steal any more friends for yourself."

"I am alone."

There was a loud thump coming from the wardrobe and Trish gasped as I jumped.

"I am coming to hurt you!" Chloe's dad roared.

In response, Chloe's body started to shake and tremble with fear. The pounding continued on the door.

"I'm coming!"

"Trish, how do you calm her?!" Theta shouted over the noise as Chloe's body began to jerk around, as if she was having a seizure. I tried to make sure that she didn't hurt herself, which was easier said than done.

"What?!"

"When she has nightmares, what do you do?" my mate demanded.

"I…I…" Trish sputtered.

Theta's voice turned urgent. "What do you do?!"

"I sing to her!"

"Then start singing!" my mate motioned Trish to come over and she took Theta's spot while Theta took hers, grabbing a hold of my hand.

"Chloe! I'm coming!" Chloe's dad's voice roared again.

Over the sound of his voice, Trish started to sing quickly. "Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, merry merry king of the bush is he..."

"Chloe…Chloe…" the voice chanted.

The banging continued against the door. I squeezed my mate's hand while we both looked over at the door as Trish went on with her singing, stroking her daughter's hair to try and sooth her.

"Chloe…Chloe…"

"Laugh, Kookaburra laugh, Kookaburra, gay your life must be." The banging and the voice eventually faded away as Trish sang. "Laugh, Kookaburra laugh, Kookaburra, gay your life must be…"

Chloe calmed down as her breathing evened out and she fell asleep, snoring lightly.

Trish was in tears by now. "He came to her because she was lonely…Chloe, I'm sorry." She buried her face into her little girl's shoulder with her arms around her, sobbing.

We both watched on. I had tears in my own eyes, feeling so sad for the both of them.

I sat on the couch in the sitting room, still thinking about Chloe and the Isolus living inside her. I could feel theta staring at me. I avoided his stare for a little before I looked back up at him.

"What?"

Theta eyed me, concerned. "Are you alright? You've been acting strangely, love."

I flashed him a reassuring smile. "Yeah, I'm fine, love. Just…" I trailed off as Trish strided into the room and started gathering up all the pencils that were lying around. I was definitely relived that our conversation got interrupted, but Theta did continue to stare at me.

"Chloe usually got the brunt of his temper." She began explaining as she picked up. "When he'd had a drink. The day he crashed the car, I thought, we were free. I thought it was over." She paused as she let out a sigh.

I thought about not say anything, but I decided to anyway. "Trish, have you ever talked to her about it?"

"I didn't want to."

I nodded in understanding. "I get it…well I mean…I don't…not really…" I admitted. "But I think maybe…maybe because you never talked to her about it…that's why she feels so alone…and why she keeps having nightmares about him." I glanced up at my mate and he wasn't looking at me anymore, but he appeared to be deep in thought.

"Her and the Isolus…two lonely kids who need each other." Theta mumbled, mostly to himself.

"Will it ever stop, Theta?" I questioned my mate and he glanced at me. There was concern in my tone. "Or will it just keep pulling kids in?"

He sighed. "I don't know…it's desperate to be loved. It's used to a pretty big family."

"How big?"

"Say around…four billion."

I felt stunned hearing that number and so did Trish if the look on her face was any hint. Then the telly caught my eye. It was showing footage of the Olympics.

"For this evening's opening ceremony. I have to say there's been..."

A little bit later, after saying goodbye to Trish and making sure all the crayons were gone, my mate shrugged on his coat as we left their house.

"We need to find that pod." Theta informed, even though I already knew that we needed to.

I nodded my head in agreement. "Of course, yeah, but where could it be at?" Then I frowned. "But if it crashed, wouldn't it be destroyed?"

My mate hummed in thought. "Weeell, it's been sucking in all the heat that it can…hopefully that should keep it in a fit state to launch."

"Do you think it's close?"

"I think so, yes. It should have a weak energy that the TARDIS can trace." Good ole Sexy. "Once we find it, then we can stop the Isolus."

I smiled. "Sounds like a plan to me." Then after that's out of the way, I can find out what exactly was wrong with me…
