Sophie's POV…

"We can scan for the same trace we picked up from the scribble creature." My mate said as we approached the TARDIS. "Just need to widen the field a bit."

He got the key out of his pocket and opened the door to let me in first, something I smiled at. I went inside with Theta going in right behind me.

Going up to the console, he began fiddling with a strange machine that I haven't seen before he went to put it together. It was probably going to be awhile so I sat in the chair next to the console, tangling my bare legs and swinging them back and forth. Every once in a while, my mate would glance at my legs, then look away. I tried not to smirk at him. I kind of failed that as Theta muttered,

"Oh shut up."

"What?" I asked, full on smirking at him.

"You know what I'm talking about, love. You…smirking at me…"

"I'm not smirking…" I said innocently.

"Riiight." He mumbled sarcastically, focusing his attention back on the machine. I giggled at him as I rolled my eyes, amused. It was so funny how easily distracted he got with me around. It was a mystery how he did anything around here.

I sighed, leaning back against my seat as I stared at my mate, trying to figure out something. He glanced at me.

"What?"

"How…how did you know the Isolus was lonely?" My mate gestured to me to move out of the seat and I did so.

Theta sat down in my seat and looked back at the machine as he answered me, "I know what it's like to travel a long way on your own."

I stared at him sadly as I patted him on the shoulder and he glanced over, giving me a half-smile. I should have figured was the reason.

He cleared his throat. "Can you give me the stina magnetic erm…" He tried to think of this word for it.

I knew what he was talking about and I handed it to him with a smirk. "Are you talking about this?"

"Yeah!" Theta grinned at me, kissing my temple. "I knew you were good something!" He teased and I shoved him in the shoulder playfully.

"Oh shut up, Thete." I rolled my eyes as I snuffed my hands in my pockets, finding a piece of gum in the left pocket. I decided to have it. I hadn't really eaten today and gum was better than nothing. I chewed it absentmindedly. Then I sighed. "I feel bad for the Isolus…having all that family…all gone in a blink of an eye…" I couldn't help but think of my own family as my eyes glazed over.

Theta nodded, a sad smile on his lips, knowing what I was thinking about. I shook my head out of my sad thoughts while I slid the thing into the device as my mate held it in between his legs.

"But I do feel bad for all the people that the Isolus hurt too…" I said with another sigh. "Is it possible to feel bad for the two of them?"

"Of course." Theta nodded again. "As for the Isolus, it's just a child…" He blew on the device. "That's why it went for Chloe, two lonely mixed up kids. Binary dot."

I gave it to him. "It's just awful…" I mumbled. "And it's sad that Chloe's mum had no idea how lonely her daughter really was…"

"She probably did, but didn't want to accept it." Theta told me.

"Maybe…"

Just then, he held out his hand under my mouth. "Gum?"

I took the piece of my mouth and handed it to him. "What do you need it for?"

He didn't respond as he stuck the gum to the device.

"But if she did see it…she should have done something about it before it happened…" I shook my head. "If I ever had a baby, I would never want her or him to ever feel alone and I would want them to be able to talk to me about any and everything. No matter what it was…and I'll always be there for them…just like Sarah Jane was there for me."

Theta stared at me with something in his eyes. I noticed.

"What?"

He glanced away. "Nothing…just…" he hesitated.

"No…" I pressed, turning towards him and turned his head so he was looking at me. "What is it?" My hand stayed pressed to his face, causing him to lean into my touch. For just a moment, we forgot what we were doing.

He met my eyes. "Have you thought about having kids?"

I was definitely taken back by the question. "I…" He didn't press me to answer but I eventually answered. "I have thought about it…" I admitted. "But with all the traveling we do…I don't know if I want to bring a child into that…"

"Oh…" He kind of looked sad for a moment. "I get it…"

Now I felt bad. "Thete…"

He shook his head, cutting me off. "It's okay…"

That was such a stupid thing to say. I wanted to hit myself in the head. Of all the things I could have said, it had to be that!

Theta changed the subject as he broke away from my touch and he swirled the chair around. I sighed to myself, staring at his back.

"I think we're there!" my mate suddenly exclaimed as if our conversation never took place. He stood up and went over to the console. "Fear. Loneliness. They're the big ones, Soph! Some of the most terrible acts ever committed have been inspired by them. We're not dealing with something that wants to conquer or destroy." I sat there, thinking about his question and hoping he wasn't too mad at me, as he started pulling levers and pressing buttons on the console. "There's a lot of things you need to get across this universe…warp drive…wormhole refractors…but you know the thing you need most of all?" He stopped what he was doing and smiled warmly at me as he held out his hand. "A hand to hold."

This made me feel relieved that he wasn't mad at me and I smiled back, taking his hand. He pulled me up to my feet before he pulled me towards me as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"And I guess something else?" I giggled, looking up at him with love in my eyes.

He smirked. "Possibly."

I just laughed and his smirk widened as he leaned in to kiss me. His lips met mine and I smiled into the kiss, resting my hands on his chest. He pulled back to peck my forehead.

"I thought so." I teased and he grinned at me.

I kissed him again and I turned around in his arms. I leaned back against him, then I noticed the flashing light on a map of the neighborhood and I pointed at it. "Is that where the pod is?"

"Yes! That's it!" he responded, kissing my cheek in his excitement. He let go of me and I missed his touch. "It is in the street! Everything's coming up Doctor!" He grinned, kissing me again before he scooted off towards the door, tugging me along with him.

Leaving the TARDIS, Theta shut the door behind us. "Okay!" he announced. "It's about two inches across. Dull grey, like a gull's egg. Very light."

"So…the pods – they travel from sun to sun using heat, right?" I asked as I faced forward and walked a little further ahead of my mate. I wanted to make sure. "So, it can't just be about love and stuff. The pod could just need heat and that's it."

There was a loud crash coming from behind me and I whirled around. My eyes widened at the sight of the machine that my mate made in piece on the ground with Theta nowhere in sight and the TARDIS was gone too!

No! Not again!

I tried to control my breathing, trying not to freak out like I did last time. It didn't take me that long to figure out what happened.

I gasped. "Chloe!"

With that, I took off running to Chloe's house. Once I got there, I knocked on the front door frantically.

Finally, the door opened, revealing Trish. Before she could say anything to me, I barged into the house and raced upstairs.

"It's okay!" Trish yelled after me. "I've taken all the pencils from her!"

I ignored her as I ran to Chloe's room, bursting inside. "Chloe! Where is he?!" I shouted. She didn't respond, too busy drawing.

I stormed over to her desk, ripping the paper out from under her pencil. There, as expected, was the TARDIS and the Doctor sketched on the paper. Anger shot through me. I was so angry that I forgot that Chloe wasn't the one who was actually doing this.

I forcefully grabbed Chloe's shoulders and she glared heatedly at me.

"Leave me alone!" she exclaimed angrily in the Isolus' voice. "I want to be with Chloe Webber! I love Chloe Webber!"

"Bring him back!" I screamed at her, unable to help it. "Bring him back to me, Chloe! Bring him back!" I shook her by the shoulders, just as Chloe's mum showed, gasping. My feelings were getting the better of me. "Don't you get it?! You sent away the only person who can help you! So…Bring. Him. Back!"

"Leave me alone!" she yelled in my face since I was that close to her. "I love Chloe Webber!"

Out of nowhere, a calm came over me and my face softened as my grip loosened on her shoulders. "I know…I know…" I whispered. I turned around, my hand on my stomach as I closed my eyes. Why did this have to happen…again? Why?

I opened them to gaze at the paper I had in my hands. "Don't worry, love, I'll get you out of there, I promise." I told him as if he could hear me. "I'll find the pod." I turned to Trish. "I'm sorry about that." I apologized first of all, then added, "Don't leave her alone. No matter what."

I glanced at the paper one last time before setting it back down on the desk. Then I left the room and went out of the house. I looked around. Where could I look first? I knew that they travelled on heat. But where could it come from? From the corner of my eye, I spotted Kel.

He was smoothing his hand on the road with the palm of his hand. It caught my attention.

"Kel!" I said his name loudly, rushing over there. He looked up when he saw me heading his way and I opened my mouth to say something, but he cut me off, grinning at me widely.

"Look at this finish." He said excitedly. "Smooth as a baby's bottom. Not a bump or a lump."

Before he could continue gushing about his work, I quickly changed the subject, crouching down next to him. "Strange question, but did you see anything strange happen on this street a few days ago? Like anything flying around? Or giving off a lot of heat?"

But he wasn't really listening and I groaned to myself. "I mean, you can eat your dinner off of this. Beautiful. So you tell me why the other one's got a lump in it when I gave it the same love and craftsmanship I did this one!"

"Kel!" I said in frustration. "Just listen to me for a minute!" He was startled by my yelling and looked up. I took a deep breath and let it out. "Please…think back…six days."

He frowned in thought. "Six days…" he mumbled. It took him a moment, but he remembered. "When I was laying this the first time around!"

My eyebrows furrowed. "What?"

"Well, that's when I filled in this pothole for the first time." Kel explained.

I paused, thinking hard about what he just told me. "Six days…" I muttered. "Hot fresh tar…" Finally, I worked it out and my face brightened. "That's it!"

"Blended to a secret council recipe…"

I wasn't paying attention to him as I stood up and ran to the van.

"Ah – ah! I don't keep it in the van!" Kel called after me when he noticed that I wasn't near him anymore.

I pulled the doors open.

"Ay, that's a council van! Out!"

I ignored him and climbed inside of the van, picking up an axe. I grinned.

Sweet!

I jumped out of the van with the axe in hand.

"Whoa, wait, wait, wait, you just removed a council axe from a council van. Put it back. No don't, wait – put the axe back in the van, that's my van, gimme the axe."

"I will, but not right now! I'm busy!" I informed him as I lifted up the axe behind me, ready to bring it down hard on the road.

"No! Wait! No!"

It was already too late. I slammed the axe down on the road, smashing through the tarmac.

"No! You – stop!" Kel yelled bewithered. I just hit the road again, breaking more of the tar. The next time he yelled, his tone was enraged. "You just took an axe – from a council van – and now you're digging up a council road! I'm reporting you to the council!"

"Go right ahead then! Don't make me stop you!" I told him cheerfully. I was just happy I was going to find the pod and get my mate back! And this time, I was actually doing something about it, instead of being distressed about him being gone. But I had no reason to be distressed. We would always find our way back to one another. Someway, somehow, we find our way back.

Once I made a hole in the ground, I put the axe down and started digging around in it. My fingers found something and I pulled it out. It was in fact the pod!

I squealed. "I found it! I found it!" I jumped in glee and hugged Kel, unable to help it.

"Found what?" he asked, bewildered.

"This!" I showed it to him, grinning.

"What is it?"

"It's a spaceship! The spaceship that's gonna help me stop the kids from being taken and bring my Doctor back!" I squealed again and hugged him tight.

With one final hug, I hurried back to Chloe's house and burst through the front door, grinning widely. "I found it!" I went into the sitting room only to see Trish standing there and my grin fell. "What are you doing? I thought I told you to stay with Chloe!"

Before she could answer, the commentator on the Olympics, which was still on, spoke, his tone shocked.

"My God. Er – what's going on?"

We turned our attention to the telly. The crowds inside of the stadium had vanished, leaving it deserted. I shook my head in disbelief as Kel appeared at the living room door, glaring at me.

"I don't care if you got Snow White and the Seven Dwarves buried under there, you don't go digging—"

I cut him off. "Just shut up and look!"

"The crowd has vanished! Er – um…they're gone. Everyone has gone. Thousands of people have just gone. Er…um…right in front of my eyes. Um…it's impossible! Bob, can we join you, um in the box?" The footage cut to the empty box. "Bob? Not you too, Bob?"

I bit my thumb nail, shaking my head slowly. "This won't be enough for the Isolus…it has four billion brothers and sisters…"

"Over eighty-thousand spectators and thirteen thousand atheltes…" A pause. "Er…they're gone! All those people. Er…it's a terrible turn of events…"

I pulled my thumb away from my mouth. "She'll have to draw all of Earth to get to that many people…" I whispered, which wouldn't be a good thing.

But somehow I knew that's exactly what she was going to do.

With that thought in mind, I ran up the stairs to Chloe's room with Trish right behind me. I had the axe in her just in case I needed. First, I tried to push open the door, but something was blocking it. Probably a chair or something.

"Chloe?" Trish called out.

"Chloe, it's Sophie!" I cried, shaking the doorknob. "Open the door! Please! You don't have to do this anymore! We found your ship! You can go back home!"

"Chloe?!"

This wasn't working at all. I knew what I had to do now.

"Trish, move out of the way!" I ordered and she moved back as I lifted up the axe.

"I'm coming to hurt you!"

I could hear Chloe's dad's voice as I slammed the axe into the door. Over and over again until I could hear the wood breaking through.

"I'm coming to hurt you…"

Making a big enough hole to fit my arm through, I knocked down the chair out of the way and quickly opened the door. Trish and I rushed inside the room.

"Chloe!" I shouted.

"I'm coming to hurt you…I'm coming…"

"I got to stop her…" I went forward to do just that, but the wardrobe doors rattled violently and I jumped back.

"If you stop Chloe Webber, I will let him out!" Chloe warned. "We will let out together! I cannot be alone! It's not fair!"

I held out the pod. "But you don't have to be now, I got your pod! You can go back home!"

"No, I can't! The pod is dead."

I moved the pod down a bit. "I…I thought I just needed heat."

"It needs more than heat."

"What else does it need? Tell me!" I begged her.

"I'm not being funny or anything, but that picture just moved." Kel said, who finally joined up with us.

Trish and I looked at the picture that moved.

"And that one!" This time, he was pointing at the picture of my mate and the TARDIS. There was something different about it though…

I quickly picked it up and eyed it closer. There was now a simple sketch of the Olympic torch next to my mate. He was pointing at it. I knew that he was trying to tell me something since he was the one who drew this.

"What are you trying to tell me, Thete?" I whispered. "It's going to need more than just heat…"

I felt helpless, just like I did on the impossible planet. I sighed to myself as I glanced at the television and it was now showing the athlete running along with the Torch.

"It's much more than a torch now, it's a beacon." The commentator said. "It's a beacon of hope and fortitude and courage. And it's a beacon of love."

That's when everything clicked.

"Love…" I breathed as my stomach gave a tiny flip. "It's love…"

"So let's have a look from the helicopter – there we go, the torch running…"

I looked up at Trish and Kel. "I know how to charge the pod." I left it at that as I ran out of the house yet again, hearing the TV one last time.

"…past Dame Kelly Holmes Close…"

I made it to the close and there was a whole bunch of people. It was hard to see anything with that many people. But I knew what they were cheering for even if I couldn't see it. The torch bearer was running through this way. I managed to make myself through the crowd, taking a spot in the front.

Before I could get any further like I planned, a policeman stopped me. "Sorry, but you'll have to watch from here." He told me.

"But I have to get through, it's important." I pressed.

"Sorry ma'am, but you have to stay here."

"I can't just stay here! I have to get closer!"

"No way!"

I glared heatedly. "I can stop this from happening though! I can bring all those people back if you just let me…" I tried to push by him and he grasped my arm rather hard.

"I said no. Now back up."

I ripped my arm from his grip and wanted to spat in his face, but I kept myself from doing that. I knew it wouldn't help anything. So, I just glared at him and stepped back.

Then the glare fell from my face and I worried my bottom lip. What was I going to do? If I couldn't get any close, how was I going to get the pod in the torch flame?

Just then, the torch bearer passed by and I felt something chirp happily in my hand. I glanced down to find that it was pod chirping. This made me grin.

"You feel that don't you, darling?" I cooed. "Let's get you back home." I cupped the pod in my hands and brought it up to my lips. "Feel the love, sweetheart." I knew that the pod would be able to find its way to the torch. I just knew it.

I tossed it up in the air and as expected, the pod was drawn to the torch. It managed to fall straight into the flames. The torch bearer staggered slightly when the pod fell into it, but he quickly dismissed it and continued running.

It worked! I squealed, jumping up and down as Kel showed up from behind me.

"Yes!" I turned around to face Kel, beaming. "I did it!" I hugged him in my excitement.

Kel was bewildered by my action. Seems that's how he mostly reacted.

"You did it?" he asked, confused. "What was it you did?'

"I saved the day, that's what!" I exclaimed excitedly, then I squealed again, spinning Kel around for a moment, before remembering Chloe. "Chloe!" I let go of Kel and ran in the direction of Chloe's house.

I stopped in my tracks before I even made it there, seeing all the missing children appearing on the street. I smiled at the sight. This was a happy moment…something of course was missing…

Theta…

My hand landed on my stomach, something I finally noticed I was doing a lot of. I didn't think about it much as my mind was on Theta.

"Where is he?" I whispered. "He should be here…" My stomach made a strange flip. It was weird. I jumped when I felt Maeve, the old lady from before, touched my arm. She was beaming at me.

"I don't know who you are, or what you did, but thank you, darling!" Maeve kissed my cheek happily. I smiled at her as her hands cupped my cheeks and her eyes glanced at my stomach. A small grin appeared and her own hand joined mine on my tummy. It startled me, causing me to meet her eyes. "Oh, and congratulations, dear!"

What was she talking about? Before I could ask, she changed the subject, "And thank that man for me!"

With that, she left and I forgot about what Maeve said. My mind was back on my mate.

I was worried. He should be here…I helped the pod go back home…so what was going on?

"He should be here…" I mumbled. "All the drawings have come to life…" I glanced up at Chloe's bedroom window. "And that means all of them…" This sentence made me realize something… I gasped. Chloe's dad! I saw the young girl's room fill up with a red light and could hear Chloe's dad growling.

"Fuck!" I cursed out loud, running towards Chloe's house once again.

I rushed to the front door and banged on it hard. "Trish, get out of there!" I yelled.

"I can't! The door's stuck!"

"Trish, you have to try to get out! Is the Doctor in there?!"

"I don't think so!"

I cursed again. Where the hell was he?!

"Mummy…" Chloe whimpered.

"Chloe…I'm coming to hurt you!"

I continued to try and get the door open.

"Please, dad! No more!"

"Chloe…"

"Chloe!" I shouted her name. "Chloe…you have to listen to me! This isn't real like the others! Your dad can't hurt you anymore! You can get rid of him, Chloe!" I heard someone banging on the door and Trish's voice.

"Help us!"

"I can't! Chloe's going to have to do this herself! She can do it! You just have to believe in her, just like you always have!" I said to Trish before saying to Chloe, "You're so scared that he's real, that he's becoming real! You have to get rid of him!"

"Mummy!" she cried.

"You can do it, Chloe!" I yelled. "I believe in you! And so does your mum!"

"I can't!" Chloe exclaimed, frightened.

"Chloe…I'm coming…"

"I can't…" I didn't have to be there to know that Chloe was shaking her head. "I can't…" And I felt so bad for her.

"Mummy…"

"Chloe…'

"I'm with you, Chloe!" I heard Trish reassure her daughter. "You're not alone! You'll never be alone again!"

"Sing, Chloe!" I banged on the door once more. "Sing!"

The singing worked and I could hear Trish and Chloe laughing in relief. I gave a sigh as I slid down the door. Thank the Lord…

Everything was okay now but my mate was still gone.

Tears filled my eyes and I leaned my head back against the door. "Theta…"

"Maybe he's gone somewhere…"

I lifted my head and my tear filled eyes found Kel's. "Yeah…maybe…" I said tearfully. "But if he has…who's gonna his hand now if I'm not there?" My voice broke as tears dripped down my cheeks. I buried my face in my hands.

Kel said nothing. Probably not knowing what to say.

I managed to calm myself down before Kel and I joined Trish and Chloe, who looked up at us, in the sitting room.

"They've returned!" The commentator announced happily. "They've reappeared. It's quite incredible. Bob, this will certainly…"

Everyone was back, but my mate wasn't.

"Theta…please…come back to me…I need you…" I whispered, my hand pressing against my heart. "You can't disappear again…you promised…"

"The torch bearer seems to be in a bit of trouble." The commentator said concerned. "We did see a flash of lightening earlier, which seemed to strike him…erm, maybe he's injured…he's definitely in trouble." The torch bearer collapsed on the ground. "Does this mean Olympic Dream is dead?"

Just then, a familiar brown-clad arm picked up the torch.

A wide grin slowly spread across my face. 'Theta…' I breathed in my mind, hoping he heard me.

He did.

'Hope you didn't miss me too badly.' He thought with a laugh.

'I hate you!' But I was laughing too.

'No, you don't!' On the screen, my mate ran with the torch alongside the crowd.

"There's a mystery man – he's picked up the flame…we've no idea who he is…erm…he's carrying the flame, yes! He's carrying the flame and no one wants to stop him!"

Kel, Trish, and Chloe smiled while I clapped my hands in joy.

"It's more than a flame now, Bob. It's more than light and heat. It's hope. And it's courage. And it's love."

I stared at my mate with love in my eyes. Everything was now right with the world.

When I left Trish's house, I got another congratulations from her. What was it with that?

I decided not to think about it, wanting to find my mate first.

I managed to find him at one of the food stands. People were out celebrating the start of the Olympics. He was happily chatting with the person running the stand. He didn't notice me standing there.

I smirked, sneaking up behind him. My hands slid over his eyes and I could feel him smile in my mind.

"Now…who is this?"

"Who do you think?"

"Is it…" Theta hummed in thought. "Is it my beautiful mate, Sophie?" He removed my hands from his eyes and he held onto them as he turned around to face me, a grin appearing. "And look! I was right!" He laughed gleefully.

I couldn't stop the tears from appearing in my eyes at hearing his laughter. I thought just for a second that I wouldn't see him again. That thought in mind, I tossed myself at my mate, kissing him deeply. My mate must have been taken back by the kiss since he didn't kiss me back straight away.

After a moment, he kissed me back and brought me closer to him. I sighed in response.

Theta was the first one to pull back. "C'mon, let's go for a walk." He smiled as he held out his arm. I grabbed a hold of it and leaned against his side, my other arm wrapped around his waist.

"I'm so happy your back, Thete." I told him softly while we walked down the street.

He kissed the side of my head. "Me too, Soph." he changed the subject, his voice bright and happy. "But now that it's over with, we can finally go to the games! Like we planned! It's still your birthday, you know?"

I had forgotten about that. "Of course! So, which events do we do well in?" I asked, out of curiosity.

"Well, I will tell you this: Papua New Guinea surprise everyone in the shot put." Theta nodded his head, grinning at me.

"Are you serious?" My mate just continued to grin at me. "You're joking, aren't you?"

"That's for me to know and for you to find out." Theta winked at me and laughed.

I shook my head as fireworks exploded over ahead. We looked up at them while we continued to walk down the street.

"It's strange…" I suddenly mumbled.

"What it is?"

"It seems like someone is always trying to break us up…first Rose…and now this…" I bit my bottom lip. "We've been able to find our way back to each other…but what if the next time…it doesn't work and we are separated for good?"

"It won't happen…" Theta said firmly, turning towards me and resting his hands on my shoulders. "We're mates, Sophie. That can't be broken. We won't be separated. Ever."

His words would normally reassure, but I had this strong feeling in my gun that something was coming and I didn't know if I was prepared for whatever it was that was headed our way.
