I thought my life was going great. I had my mate, I was traveling around the universe, doing what I loved to do. I thought that nothing would ever change.

That was until the army of ghosts, Torchwood, and the start of a war that no one even wanted.

Things were going to change. I wasn't looking forward to any of it, but the story had to end somewhere, and it was going to end with me. No matter the cost of it all.

It had been a few weeks since the Isolus adventure, and I was still wasn't feeling all that great. I probably should be worried since it had been going on for as long as it did, but I just wasn't. It was just a stomach bug, at least that's what I was telling myself.

Though it didn't stop my mate from trying to convince me to let him check me out. However, I managed to convince him that I was just fine, and didn't need to be, but I knew that it wouldn't work on him forever.

Not only that, it didn't stop him from trying to keep me out of adventures. Most of the time it never worked, but today wasn't one of those days.

I sighed as I lay in bed, bored out of my mind. I knew I was the one who told Theta I wasn't up for an adventure today. Still, that didn't mean I couldn't complain about being bored. I slid further under my covers, closing my eyes to try and go to sleep. Before it could even work, my mobile started ringing, causing a groan to leave my lips. I still grabbed it to see who was calling…and who it was caused my body to freeze up and my hand to tighten around my mobile.

It was…

Rose freaking Tyler.

I haven't heard from her in months and now she was calling. Maybe it was just a horrible dream. I closed my eyes, tight, and shook my head before they opened, still seeing Rose's name flashing on the screen of my phone.

Nope…it wasn't a dream.

I know I probably shouldn't, not without Theta, but I answered the phone anyway after taking a deep breath and letting it out.

"Hello?"

"Sophie." Rose sighed over the phone in relief. "Thank God, you answered."

My voice was monotone as I spoke. "What do you want?"

"I know you and the Doctor are pissed off at me, but I need your help." She sounded desperate and I could hear a little fear in her tone as well. "It's my mother…something's wrong. I think it might be alien."

I said nothing, not sure if I should believe her or not. If something was wrong with her mum, then I would regret it if I didn't go. I loved Jackie like a mother, so I would want to help her, even if her actual daughter tried to kill her.

"Okay." I finally said. "We'll come."

"Thank you! And please, come quickly." With that, Rose hung up the phone.

I slowly brought the mobile away from my ear as the Doctor came in, looking excited to explain what had happened on the adventure he went on. He observed me for a moment and whatever he was gonna say left his train of thought when he saw the expression on my face.

"What? What's wrong?" he asked, concerned.

My mate sighed heavily. "I can't believe you convinced me to do this." He said as he put in the cordience for Rose and her mum's flat. I told him about what Rose had called me about, and I did manage to convince him to do it and he reluctantly did so. Before he sent us off, he regarded me with concern and worry in his eyes. "Are you sure you want to do this? I can do this by myself if you're not feeling up to seeing her."

I immediately turned that down. I definitely didn't want my mate to be alone with a woman who was in love with him. Not that I didn't trust him or anything, I didn't trust Rose with him.

"No, I'm going." I told him, and I cut him off when he was about to protest. "Really, I'll be fine, Thete. I knew I wouldn't be able to avoid her for long…maybe that's why I haven't been feeling well." It kind made sense in a way.

Theta sighed. "Okay, fine." He sighed again before he pressed the button, sending us into the time vortex.

We arrived there, rather quickly, landing in a nearby park. It was a beautiful day outside, but even that didn't help make this day any better.

Getting to her front door, I hesitated to even open the door, knowing I couldn't turn back if I did. My mate squeezed my hand in reassurance and we opened the door together, stepping inside.

The next thing that I knew, I was enveloped in a tight hug as soon as we got inside.

I froze in her grip, not expecting it.

"Thank God! You're here!" Rose exclaimed.

I awkwardly hugged her back. "Um…I told you we would…" I was shocked. Did she not remember what happened? Clearly she did, or she wouldn't have said what she said when she called. She really was insane.

Rose pulled back from the hug and smiled her tongue in the teeth smile, but it slipped away as she saw the glare on the Doctor's face. She glanced away and I spoke up.

"What's going on?" I asked, wanting to get to why we came here in the first place.

She looked up, a solemn expression on her face. "It would be better to show you." Rose turned, heading towards the sitting room.

My mate and I shared a look before we followed, our hands locking together. We got to the sitting room where we saw Jackie Tyler, staring out the window.

"Mum." Rose started. "Look who's here."

Jackie turned and grinned. "Sophie! Doctor!" She gave us each a big hug and left a sloopy kiss on the Doctor's mouth. It took me by surprise, but I couldn't help giggling at the look on my mate's face. She pulled back and the Doctor wiped his mouth, making a face. Jackie didn't take notice though.

"What are you guys doing here?" she asked excitedly.

Rose was the one who spoke up. "I called them, so they could meet Grandad Prentice."

"Oh really?" Jackie looked pleased. "You're right on time then!" She checked her watch. "He usually comes ten past! So he'll be here soon. Any minute now!"

Huh? I was confused. Didn't Rose's grandpa die a few years ago?

"Right, it's time for tea." Jackie skipped to the kitchen and Rose turned to us.

"See what I mean?"

I nodded, a concerned look slowly crossing my face. "Yeah…"

"What is it?" The Doctor asked us.

Rose answered quietly, "Grandad Prentice – that's her dad. But he died like ten years ago."

"How long has this been going on for?" I questioned.

"Ever since you guys took me back here…so a few months ago."

I said nothing for a moment. "Have you seen him?"

She hesitated. "Yeah…but I know this isn't right." There was silence for a moment. "It hasn't just been happening to my mum…everyone in the world is seeing ghosts."

The Doctor's frown deepened as we went to stand in the kitchen doorway.

"Jackie? Um didn't your father pass away?" I asked gently.

"Any second now." Jackie said eagerly, checking her watch again.

"I think you said he died of a heart attack…do you remember you telling me that?"

Jackie nodded. "Course I do!"

"Okay…then how can he come visit?"

"Why don't you ask him yourself?" Once again, she checked her watch. "Ten past. Here he comes."

I didn't expect anything to happen and neither did the Doctor. But right before our eyes, a figure stepped out of nowhere in the kitchen. It was featureless, like a shadow, but definitely humanoid. It stood beside Jackie as the Doctor and I stared, shocked.

"There you are then." Jackie beamed.

We said nothing, too dumbstruck to say anything.

And that was just the beginning…
