Army of Ghosts:

Part 3...

I couldn't just stand there! I tried to go out the TARDIS doors, but Rose grabbed my arm.

"What are you doing?! You can't go out there!"

I roughly pulled my arm away. "I can't just stay here and do nothing!"

"And we're not going to!" Rose told her. "We just have to stay here for the time, but when we get a chance to get out, we will! I promise." She squeezed my hands reassuringly.

I took a calming breath, freaking out a little more than I should have been. My mate knew what he was doing. There was nothing to worry about. I slowly nodded.

"Okay…"

Rose kept a hold of my hands. I took notice to it and pulled my hands away. I shifted away from her awkwardly. It was weird being around her now after what she told me. She seriously she couldn't be in love with me. It made no sense. I honestly didn't want to think about it, or talk about it. Unfortunately, Rose didn't have the same train of thoughts as I did.

"Look, about what I said, just forget I said anything. I don't know what I was saying…." She chuckled nervously.

I knew that was a lie and sighed. "Yeah, you did. Are you really in love with me, or were you just saying that?"

Rose said nothing for a moment. "I do..." she said softly. "But I know you don't feel the same way, but I just wanted you to know because I know after all this is over, you guys are gonna take me home and I won't see you for a long time. I would regret it if I didn't say anything to you now."

I stayed silent. Just when I was about to say something, the feeling of moving startled me and Rose. I looked at the monitor and the TARDIS was being moved onto the back of a truck.

"Great…" I muttered, a sinking feeling in my stomach. I rubbed my stomach, grimacing.

"Are you okay?" Rose asked concerned.

I nodded quickly, not wanting another person worried about me. "I…I'm fine. Just feeling a little under the weather." I glanced at Rose, who still looked concerned.

"How long has this been going on?" she questioned.

"Six weeks…I think." I couldn't remember, but that's how long it felt like.

Rose was quiet for a moment. "I know this might be a personal question…but do you think…you might be…pregnant?"

My mind immediately went to no. Of course I wasn't pregnant…then the more I thought about it, I realized… My eyes went wide.

"Oh my God…I'm pregnant!" I couldn't believe I didn't even think that's what was wrong with me. My hand landed on my stomach again, causing my eyes to well up. I had a little human inside of me…Theta's child…

The thought of my mate brought me back to reality. Though I was glad to figure out what was wrong with me, we had to find out where that Yvonne woman took him and Jackie.

Running towards the TARDIS doors to see where we were being taken, I jarred open the door slightly, peering outside. I spotted Jackie and my mate.

'Theta.' I called for him in my mind and he turned his head, meeting my gaze. He didn't even have to say anything back because I knew what he wanted me to do…figure out what was going while he kept everyone else busy. I quickly nodded and closed the door, quickly going over to my mate's jacket. I went through his pockets.

"What are you looking for?" Rose asked, inching over to me.

I pulled the psychic paper. "The psychic paper." Holding it up, I grinned at Rose, first one towards her in a long time. "Just like the old times, eh?"

The blonde grinned back. The TARDIS came to a stop. I peeked at the monitor, making sure none of the guards were there anymore. After doing that, I gestured to Rose and we tentatively left the TARDIS, finding ourselves in a tucked away corner of the factory floor. I grabbed Rose's arm when I saw two soldiers heading our way, managing to dodge them. Once they were gone, I whispered to Rose,

"Come on."

I held her hand as we moved out of our hiding spot. I found two lab coats and threw one to Rose, both of us slipping them on before strolling out into the open area without being noticed. Rose and I grinned at each other once again, the bad blood between them gone.

Seeing a man striding purposely through a door, we decided to follow him. He could have the information we needed.

We walked down the corridor, following the man from a distance, so we wouldn't be seen. Managing to catch up to him as he rounded the corner, I could hear the sound of a door opening. Once I was sure the man had disappeared, I went over to the door with Rose close behind me. I used the psychic paper against the lock. The door slid open.

Slipping inside, Rose and I walked slowly into the room. In the middle of it, there was this weird looking sphere. Immediately, I didn't like feeling it gave off and my stomach flipped at the feeling. I put my hand on my stomach, rubbing it comfortingly. Now knowing there was a little being inside of me, I felt extremely protective

"It's okay…" I whispered to my stomach, still rubbing it. I glanced at Rose, seeing that she was enamored by the sphere.

"Can I help you?"

I jumped at the sound and turned around to find the man we had been following behind. I brought a smile to my face.

"Yes, hi! We were just…" the man cut me off, nodding towards Rose.

"Try not to look." At this, Rose's gaze snapped away from the sphere. "It does that to everyone."

I smiled brightly again. "Ah! Okay, thanks. We'll remember that."

The man eyed me strangely, as well as Rose. "What do you want?"

"Right, yeah. They sent us from personnel." I explained. "They said some man had been taken prisoner. I think he was some kind of Doctor, or something. We're just checking the lines of communication, did they tell you anything?"

"Can I see your authorization?"

I nodded. "Of course." I handed him the psychic paper and he examined it for a moment before looking back up.

"That's lucky." He said. I smiled. "You see, everyone at Torchwood has at least a basic level of psychic training."

My smile faded. "Oh…" I cursed silently to myself. Of course they did. "Erm, I can explain." I tried weakly, knowing it was no use.

"This paper is blank. And you're both fake." Rose and I gave each other worried looks as the man spoke into his communication device. "Seal the room. Call security." The doors closed and the man turned to a young man, wearing a lab coat. "Samuel? Can you check the door locks? They just walked right in."

Samuel turned around. However, we were shocked to find that it was the one and only Mickey Smith! I wanted to grin and run over to hug him since it had been forever since we last saw, but I figured he was here for a reason, maybe uncover, so I wasn't going to blow his cover. I grabbed Rose's hand to stop her from doing what I was thinking about.

"Doing it now, Mr. Rajesh." Mickey said, managing to flash us both a grin and a thumbs up when the man, or now known as Rajesh, wasn't looking.

"Well. If you'd like to take a seat." Rajesh offered, being oddly polite. I nodded slowly with Rose nodding along too, seemingly lost for words.

"Yvonne?" Rajesh said into the webcam of his computer, Rose and I gathering around him. "I think you should see this. We've got visitors. We don't know who they are, but funnily enough, they arrived at the same time as the Doctor."

In a moment, I could see the Doctor and he was glad to see I was okay but he didn't let it show on his face. My stomach flipped and I giggled to myself. Well, looks like the baby was glad to see his or her father. I wish I could tell Theta the good news, but he didn't need something else to worry about. After all this was over, however, I wasn't going to hesitate to tell him.

"Are they yours?" Yvonne asked him.

My mate shook his head. "Never seen them before in my life."

"Good! Then we'll have them shot."

He sat up in his chair. "Oh all right then." He relented. "It'll be worth a try. That's…that's Sophie McQueen, my mate, and that's Rose Tyler."

"Sorry." I waved sheepishly. "Hi."

My mate waved back.

"Well, if that's your mate, then who's this?" Yvonne gestured to Jackie.

"I'm hers and Rose's mum." She responded. Hearing that, my heart warmed. I knew she considered me like a daughter but it was nice to hear.

Yvonne looked amused. "Oh, you travel with her mother?"

"He kidnapped me." Jackie said matter-of-factly.

My mate looked at Yvonne wearily. "Please, when Torchwood comes to write my complete history, don't tell people I travelled through time and space with her mother…"

Jackie pursed her lips at him. "Charming." She told him dryly.

"I've got a reputation to uphold!"

"That reputation is all in your head, love." I teased him, unable to help it. He pouted at me in response.

Suddenly, the sound of the ghost shift engines starting up could be heard. My heart sunk to the ground. That didn't sound good.

"Yvonne, I thought you said the next Ghost Shift was cancelled." Mickey, who was checking the locks on the doors, glanced over his shoulder as Rajesh spoke into his comm. "What's going on?" There must have been no reply because he rose his voice. "Yvonne?!"

The whole chambers suddenly shuddered. I almost lost my balance, but I managed to keep myself from by grabbing onto the table with my arm around my stomach protectively. The disturbance was coming from the sphere.

"It can't be!" Rajesh breathed as we hurried over to it and there was another crash from within. "It's active!" He tried the comm again. "We've got a problem down here. Yvonne, can you hear me?" His voice turned frantic. "Yvonne, for God's sake – the sphere is active! The readings are going wild! It's got weight, it's got mass, an electromagnetic field – it exists!" He jumped and turned around to a crash behind him, the door closing. "The door's sealed. Automatic quarantine – we can't get out!" He rushed off.

Rose, Mickey, and I stood there, staring up at the sphere.

"I don't like this at all…" I mumbled, my arm still wrapped around my stomach.

Rose rubbed my shoulder. "It's going to be okay, Soph. You and the baby will be fine." She tried to reassure me. It didn't work that well.

"The baby…" Mickey muttered, then he looked at me wide-eyed. "You're pregnant?"

I shook my head. "Nevermind that, what are you doing here Mickey?"

"The fight."

Rose looked at him confused. "The fight against what?"

"What do you think?"

Before we could say anything, we stumbled as two violent crashed emitted from the sphere, shaking the chamber. After those crashes, there was another one as Mickey spoke up.

"We had them beaten, but then they escaped. The Cybermen just vanished." Another crash. "They found a way through to this world, but – so did we."

"The Doctor said that was impossible." Rose said. I remembered that as well.

"Yeah, well, it's not the first time he's been wrong."

This made me chuckle. "Yeah, sounds like him." I frowned. "Do you know what's in the sphere?"

"No one knows." Mickey answered. "Cyber Leader, Cyber King, or Emperor of the Cybermen…whatever it is…" He grinned. "He's dead meat."

Rose smiled, nudging him in the side. "It's good to see you."

Mickey smiled back. "Yeah, it's good to see you too." He glanced at me next, smiling too. "And good to see you, Soph."

I couldn't help but grin back and finally do what I wanted to do when I first saw him. I gave him a hug.

"You too, Mickey Smith."

"Can anyone hear me?" Rajesh tried the comm again. "Come on, I need help down here!" The entire chamber was shaking now, accompanied by booms from the sphere. "I need…"

The sphere stopped shaking and Rajesh rejoined us as Mickey took off his lab coat, then pulled off his earpiece.

"Here we go." Mickey said with a grin. Rajesh slipped his glasses on. As we watched, smooth cracks appeared in the sphere while it opened. Light spilled from the gaps.

"I know what's in there." The light continued to spill from the sphere. "And I'm ready for them. I've got just the thing." Mickey retrieved a weapon he had been hiding under a counter, and then positioned himself in front of the sphere.

I stared at him in awe. He definitely wasn't the Mickey Smith we had left behind. I was proud of him.

"This is gonna blast them to Hell."

"Samuel, what are you doing?!"

"The names Mickey." Mickey informed him. "Mickey Smith. Defending the Earth." He cocked his gun as the sphere parted further.

The top part of a familiar looking alien emerged from the sphere…

"No…no…" I muttered and Rose shook her head in disbelief as Mickey looked over at the two of us. "No…it can't be them…"

Mickey looked back at the sphere, taken aback. "That's not Cybermen…"

"No, it's worse." I said, fear in my tone. Not just for myself, or my baby, or my mate, but for everyone involved.

Four Daleks glided smoothly from the sphere.

"Oh my God." Rose gasped.

"Location: Earth." One of the Daleks announced in that screeching voice of theirs. "Life forms detected. EXTERMINATE!"

Mickey aimed his guns at them as Rose and I looked on with fear in our eyes.

"Exterminate! Exterminate! EXTERMINATE!"
