They arrive at the scene it's a complete mess, Boden starts barking orders to his men and woman.
"Squad primary search, 81 take the upstairs, engine get a line ready, 61 get ready for victims." Boden says.
Sylvie looks over to Matt and they both nod to each other, letting the other one know they are going to come back to the other. They started doing it before they were a couple, it just started and now it's their thing.
Foster breaks sylvies thoughts by saying "so you're with the captain and a mom, also moving out. When were you going? To inform me of any of this?" Foster asks, a little offended.
"Honestly Emily, the last week has Been a whirlwind, and I was planning on talking to you today. I should have told you sooner, I know that and I'm truly sorry for leaving you hanging with the place so my friend from spin class Sara is willing to take over my room if you're okay with it. You can meet her at the cafe around the corner of the apartment on Saturday which is your last day off before your final shift.." Sylvie explains.
"Ok, I get you've been under a lot of stress so I'll cut you some slack. Also I am moving into the dorms anyway so I was going to give my notice as the lease runs up next week anyway." Foster tells Sylvie.
"Okay that's great, so neither of us are left hanging then." Sylvies says happily.
Just then over the radio Sylvie hears what's going on in the house.
"Chief we found a little girl who was protecting her baby brother from the flames, she's pretty Burnt and unconscious. " says casey.
"Okay Foster and Brett, be ready." Boden says, the two women nod at him and get ready.
Just as Matt and Gallo bring the kids out, Severide is behind them with the mom.
"She doesn't have a pulse." Severide says as he places her on the other ambos gurney.
The other paramedics work on the mom, while Sylvie and foster work on the kids .
"We got to go now, his pulse is thready." Foster says amd Sylvie nods as she says "the little girl is burnt bad and I can't intubate, we got to get them to med now." Sylvie says as they load the kids in the ambo on one gurney. Sylvie works on the kids as foster drives.
The other paramedics announce the mother is gone. Matt knows this is gonna hit Sylvie hard, with everything that she's been through the last week, but he has to stay and do overhaul.
Sylvie and foster rush the kids in, Will and crockett are there to take the kids. Sylvie looks to foster and says "I want to wait and hear about the kids, while we wait do you wanna come meet my daughter?" Sylvie asks happily, even though she feels immense guilt for it.
"Absolutely!" Foster says happily.
They duo go to the nursery where Sylvie finds Tina who is Amelia's nurse.
"Hi Tina, we just dropped off a patient, can we see her?" Sylvie asks.
"Absolutely, I just wouldn't hold her because you did just come from a fire." Tina says and Brett nods as they enter the room.
Once Sylvie looks towards Amelia, Amelia's eyes open and the two lock eyes, and in that moment Sylvie knows the feeling of unconditional love. That's what she feels towards this little girl. Yes everything is messy and confusing, but if Sylvie knows one thing, it's that Amelia, Matt and herself will be okay because she can do anything with Matt by her side and her beautiful little girl in her arms.
"She's precious." Foster says breaking sylvies thoughts. "Thank you, I think so too." Brett says with a smile.
"Your happy around her, a happiness I haven't seen since, well you know." Foster says not trying to bring up Julie so Sylvie doesn't get sad again.
"She brings out the best of me and I feel so guilty for that. I know I've been down lately and I know I have a right to be, it's just so confusing to try to figure out what emotion is acceptable at what time." Sylvie confesses to her partner.
"I get that, you get the right to feel however the hell you want, girl. You have been through hell and back this year and if you want to be happy then you damn right deserve to be. Don't let anyone tell you how to feel, you feel the way you want to." Foster says pulling Sylvie into a hug.
"Thanks em. That means a lot. I do feel bad for Matt though, I feel like I am making him rush things in a way and apart of me knows differently, but there's that sliver of my brain that thinks he's only doing this because I'm forcing him to, in a way.." Sylvie says sighing into their hug as they break apart.
"Sylvie Brett, Matt Casey is head over heels for you and I finally thought you saw that. He's with you because he's madly in love with you.
You need to realize that. Also the way he lights up when you enter the room, or when he talks about that little girl. You need to know he's with you because he wants to be." Foster says, looking her partner right in the eyes.
"Oh em, what am I gonna do without you to get my head on straight?" Sylvie asks with a tear in her eye.
She's definitely gonna miss her best friend and partner.
"I don't know, but I'm just a phone call away at any time, I love you girl, but We should probably go check on the victims and head back." Foster says, Sylvie nods and they leave
"True, let's go." Sylvie says as Foster wraps her arm around Sylvies shoulder as they walk down the hall towards the ED.
Once in the ED, they find Will, he tells them the little boy didn't make it, neither did the mom. They find out that the father was never in the picture. Sylvie has tears tuning down her face.
"What's going to happen to the little girl?" Sylvie asks
"Her grandmother is on her way for her." Will says and Sylvie nods. Sylvie thanks will for the information, then
Emily and Sylvie grab their supplies and head out.
Once back at 51, truck is back already, the squad got called out again and so did engine.
Matt is waiting for Sylvie by the bay doors.
"Hey, beautiful." Matt says when he sees Sylvie get out of the ambo.
"Hi." Sylvie says with a smile, despite everything going on in sylvies life, Matt Casey can still make her smile.
God, she loves this man more than words can express.
Matt wraps his arms around her and she melts into him.
It's been a long week.
Also it is 4am.
"You need sleep, we have a big day ahead of us." Matt tells her, as he kisses her hair.
"I know, come with me?" Sylvie asks.
"Absolutely." Matt says,
taking Sylvies hand, leading them to the bunk room.
Once in Matt's office, Sylvie finally crumbles.
"This week has been tough and I feel like people expect me to be crying all the time or not happy about things with you and Amelia. When i can't cry all the time or i'd just break. I feel bad for being happy about our little family, when it was supposed to be Julies and Scott's, and now it's ours… How do I just move on from all the guilt I have?" Sylvie confesses her feelings to Matt.
"Oh, Sylvie baby, first of all don't worry what people think, you do what's best for you. Also the guilt I get, but you and I both know Julie wouldn't want you to feel like this. Julie would want you to embrace your family and hang onto every second, because tomorrow is not guaranteed.." Matt says and Sylvie realizes he's right tomorrow isn't guaranteed, she needs to hang out to her family a little tighter now.
"Thank you, you're right, nothings guaranteed and of all people I should know that by now. Yes i wish Julie and i had more time together, but everything happens for a reason, right?" Sylvie says
"Yes you are right, you know i love you right?" Matt confesses out of the blue.
"I do, thank you for putting up with me, with everythings that's going on and then rushing things. Thank you, I love you too." Sylvie tells Matt.
"It's my pleasure. But you need sleep now." Matt says, Sylvie nods as she yawns. Matt turns out the light and grabs two cigars, then heads to find severide.
Matt finds Severide up in his office doing paperwork.
"Hey wanna join me on the roof?" Matt says peeking his head in the doorway.
"Sure." Severide says. They head up to the roof to the lawn chairs they keep on the roof, for this very reason. Once they are seated and their cigars are lit, Severide breaks the silence first.
"So a lot has changed for you this week, why didn't you tell me any of it man?" Severide asks, looking at Casey.
"Honestly man, I've just been trying to be there for Sylvie and the baby the best that I know how and can be. They are my world. I know it's hard to understand how I could just connect with Amelia so fast but the first time I held her, she wrapped me around that little pinky of hers. I'm her dad, man. Casey explains.
Severide puffs out a breath as he's nodding his head, understanding what Casey is saying, then he says "well i guess im an uncle now." with a chuckle.
Matt joins in on the chuckle then says "Of course man, I can't wait for you to meet her, she looks just like sylvie. God man I'm mesmerised by the strength that that woman has. She just keeps blowing my mind, everyday a new hurdle comes her way but she gets back up after the aftermath no matter what." Matt says, pausing for a second as he inhales the cigar smoke, then adds "in this whole thing she's worried about how other people are, or what they think, rather than just breaking down and not giving a sweet shit what anyone else thinks. She's the most selfless and caring person i have ever met, and now she's mine." Matt smiles at that thought.
"You know you got it bad right?" Severide says with a laugh then adds.
"But yea I know what you mean, I feel the same about Stella. Man she's doing so well with girls on fire and now she's taking the lieutenants test next month, that woman keeps amazing me everyday and I was going to actually tell you before everything happened, that i plan on asking Stella to marry me."
Severide says smiling, Matt lets out a chuckle then says "Wow, I'm so happy for you. When do you plan on asking her?"
"After next shift." Severide replies.
"Good for you." Matt says clapping his best friend on the back.
They sit there for a few minutes watching the sunrise over the skyline,
After a beat Casey and Severide head back into 51, Severide goes to the locker room and Casey goes to his office to wake up Sylvie.
Sylvies just gets up when Matt arrives at his office. "Good morning beautiful." Matt says to Sylvie, as he leans against the door frame. Sylvie yawns, then Replies with "mmhm good morning, did you sleep?" She asks with a raised eyebrow.
Matt chuckles then answers "no, I had a cigar with severide." Sylvie nods at this, "everything okay?" She asks worriedly. She's been at 51 long enough to know that Casey and severide usually only have cigar talks when somethings up with one of them or work.
"Absolutely, just wanted to fill him in on everything going on." Matt explains.
"Oh ok." Sylvie says, getting up and going over to hug Matt. "I love you, thank you for being here with me." Sylvie adds.
"No problem, my pleasure. We should get going though everyone was planning on waiting for us on the apparatus floor, so we can go move." Matt says.
"Okay, we have amazing friends. I feel bad though they are giving up one of their days off just so they can move us." Sylvie says with a sigh.
"We do have amazing friends, and they want to help us." Matt says with a smile as he takes Sylvies hand, they head to the locker room to quickly get changed and head out to the apparatus floor.
Sylvie couldn't believe her eyes, all of 51 and their spouses were there ready to help.
"Wow guys, thank you all for helping." Sylvie says, still shocked.
"You guys are family, and family shows up for each other." Severide says hugging Sylvie.
"Thank you, this means a lot to the both of us." Matt says, clapping severide on the back.
———
After some hugs and kind words, they separate into two teams, one at Kelly's loft to get Matt's things, which honestly won't take long. Then the second, and larger team at Sylvies to get her stuff, while some of the wife's Wait at the new house for deliveries. Sylvie joins the wife's at the house shorty after she tells the men to be careful with everything, and where everything is.
Cruz shows her to the new house to wait for the men, and deliveries.
Once at the house, Sylvie walks into the porch off of the kitchen. The house is older but it's absolutely beautiful and perfect for them.
The porch is wide and has enough room to put shoe racks, a bench and little sections for Amelia and future kids. It also has a small bathroom with a stand up shower, because the porch is at the back of the house where the big above ground pool that a deck wraps around, is.
Which Sylvie thinks is perfect for when Amelia's older and plays in the dirt and mud, she can just quickly get cleaned off the porch, which Sylvie really likes.
Sylvie enters the big kitchen that has a double door stainless steel fridge, with ice maker, a stainless steel flat top stove, which worry's Sylvie a bit, she can just imagine little hands on the top of the stove and she shudders.
The kitchen also has a stainless steel dishwasher and microwave. It also has a big breakfast bar in the middle of the room, big picture windows looking out onto the side of the house where the garage is, is behind the breakfast bar.
Then to one side of the kitchen is a door that leads to the basement that has, three finished bedrooms, a finished sitting area, finished bathroom, a storage room, a finished playroom, and a mud room, and an office, also the laundry room is all down in the basement.
To the other side of the bright mint green with brown cupboards and marble countertops, kitchen is the big dining room, then you get to through big double glass French doors with brown wood framing, and glass door knobs.
She opens the doors to show a big grey brick fireplace with a mantle and mirror over the fireplace, then complements the mocha colored walls.
A beautiful crystal chandelier hanging directly in the middle of the room. There's a big picture window facing the paved area that has a basketball net that's fenced in. It's a little side area that Matt and Sylvie both fell in love with, for when Amelia and future kids are older.
She exits the dining room, then goes through the kitchen to get to the hallway where the side staircase is to go upstairs, there's also a sun porch at the end of the hall that wraps around the front of the house, and then to sylvies right is the sitting room, that you have to walk down three hardwood steps to get to the sitting room. It also has a big grey brick fireplace, with a mantle and mirror over the mantle.
The walls in the sitting room is a chocolate brown that Sylvie just adores, she's gotten red accents for the living room, and traded her blue side in for a red sectional.
The walls also complement the grey wood flooring.
Sylvie then starts hearing voices coming from the sunroom, she turns back to the hall that has pale yellow walls, to make it look bigger than it is.
There's a little storage closet under the steps, that she can just imagine Amelia hiding in for hide n go seek, when she's a little older.
The darker brown wood floors in the hall, going up the stairs is a nice contrast with the yellow walls, brown woodworking and brown bannister, and railing going up along the staircase.
Sylvie opens up the doubled brown and glass french doors to the sunroom.
"Hi Ladies." She says hAppily as she sees Donna, Cindy, Trudy, Stella, Emily, chole and a baby Brian.
"Hey." All the women say in unison to Sylvie, then coming to give her a hug.
"Girl, this place is to die for." Emily says hugging her best friend.
Sylvie chuckles, saying "thank you, we think so, lucky for us there wasn't really anything we seen that needed to be done to it, we would of liked to have redone some things if we didn't have to bring Amelia right home, but it's still gorgeous, and those will just be projects for the years to come." Sylvie explains.
"I don't see how you would want to change anything." Stella says.
"It's Matt, he can find the tiniest flaw when it comes to houses and construction." Sylvie says laughing, making the rest of the women chuckle as well.
"True enough." Stella and Emily say in unison.
"Have you guys seen the whole house yet or just the main level?" Sylvie asks
"We came in through the back porch, so we saw the porch, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, sitting room and now the sun room." Donna tells Sylvie.
"Okay well there's still the finished basement, and upstairs, would you guys like a tour?" Sylvie asks.
"Absolutely." All six women say in unison.
"Okay well follow me, we will head down stairs first, we have to go through the kitchen to get there though." Sylvie explains.
"The place is breathtaking, Sylvie." Donna tells the younger woman.
"Thanks Donna, we like it, we got really lucky honestly, and where Matt knew the owners, and told them our situation, they knocked 20K off and moved the process along super quickly." Sylvie tells the women.
"Wow, that is lucky." Trudy says as the women reach the basement door.
"It is." Sylvie says with a smile as she opens the dark brown wooden door, to reveal a dark brown wooden stair case."
"Also where Matt knew the owners he did most of the updating and renovations already on the place so that helped with convincing him it was good enough for now." Sylvie says, chuckling.
"Matt did the work on this place?" Cindy asks.
"Yea, just about six months ago, he updated the kitchen, and bathrooms, made sure the fireplaces were up to code, finished down here, in the basement, added the deck around the pool, he freshly painted the walls to and replaced the floors, did the both stair cases and the sunroom, as well." Sylvie explains.
"Wow, so he really shouldn't have complained much." Stella says.
"No he didn't really, he just wanted to make sure I liked everything and trust me I do, it's like my dream home." Sylvie says as they reach the bottom of the steps, that has a landing then three steps to go down to get to the main area of the basement that they are going to use and a den.
"Wow it's big down here." Trudy says looking around.
The main area of the basement is a chestnut brown, with tan hardwood floors.
To the left of the women is the mud room, and to over on the same wall as the stairs a little to the right is the storage room.
Then on the wall across from the mud room is a gorgeous brown French arch way that leads to the big play room the is a granny Smith apple green, with dark wooden floors.
Straight across from the women is a long hallway that leads to a big 4 piece bathroom, the office, the two big bedrooms, and the laundry room.
"So this room we are using as a den, Matt's putting a 70" tv down here and a pool table, we also have a big black suede sectional coming down here. This room to our left is just a mud room, where the wood for the fireplaces is, it's small but big enough for what it's used for. " Sylvie says "then through this arch way is the Playroom,"
"Wow this is really nice, Sylvie." Chole tells the other woman.
"Thanks." Sylvie says with a smile. "Then this door here is just a storage room, which will definitely come in handy. The hall here leads to this bathroom." Sylvie says opening the door to reveal a big stand up, glass shower, a big jacuzzi tub, a toilet and the double sink vanity. The room itself is a bright sunshine yellow.
"This is my dream bathroom." Donna says chuckling.
"I can second that." Trudy and Cindy say in unison making the rest of the women chuckle.
"If you think this is nice, wait till you see the master bath." Sylvie tells the women.
Making the women gasp.
"Really?" Donna asks shocked.
Sylvie just nods her head with a bright smile. Making the mown chuckle.
They continue on the tour. The next stop is the laundry room, which you think wouldn't be anything fantastic, but are you ever wrong.
The women gasp at it when Sylvie opens the door.
On the far wall are two stackable stainless steel washers and dryer sets. The walls are a bright red which goes really nice with everything.
To the left is a counter with cupboards above and under the marble countertop.
The cupboards are mahogany wood.
There's a doubled sink in the middle of the counter.
To the right is a wall half made of cube shelves and the other half made with tall cupboards that have shelves on the top half then hampers for lights/whites, darks, delicates, bedding and towels.
There are four bins two in front and two in back of the cupboard, they are not attached so they can come out easily.
"This is magical." Cindy says, making the women chuckle.
"When you have 5 children then Christopher, you can only dream of having a nice laundry room." Cindy tells the group.
"She's right, it's just Walce and Terrance and me and man what I'd give for a laundry room like this." Donna says.
"Well I'm glad this will come in handy, honestly I think it's a little overkill, but it might come in handy down the road." Sylvie tells the group.
"Oh it will." Cindy assures Sylvie making her and the rest of the women chuckle.
The next room is the office which again has brown Wooden framed glass French doors.
"This is Matt's office." Sylvie tells the ladies.
The room has a built-in filing cabinet and cupboards and a desktop on the left, then a big built-in bookshelf to the right. Matt's main desk with his laptop and everything will go in the middle of the floor.
"This is really nice." Donna says, appreciating the room.
"It is. Matt says this is his dream office." Sylvie explains.
"I would hope so." Donna says.
They continue their tour to the three bedrooms.
"This one here on the left will be the guest room as well as the one beside it, and then this one on the right will be the nannies room." Sylvie explains.
The first guest room is aqua blue with a walk-in closet.
The second guest room is a mint green with a walk-in closet.
The Nannies room is a navy blue, with a walk-in closet.
"They are really nice, how many rooms does this place have?" Chole asks
"Five on the third floor and three down here." Sylvie explains.
"Holy hell that's a lot of bed rooms." Trudy says
Sylvie chuckles "yea it is, but we want a big family, and we are gonna need a nanny for a long time so they will always need a room, and my family are in fowlerton so will always want to have a guest room for them.
One for my parents and one for my brother and his girlfriend." Sylvie explains.
"That's understandable." Cindy says.
"Let's go upstairs to the third level, now." Sylvie says with a smile.
They head up to the third level where the main bedrooms are.
Sylvie opens the door to the master bedroom.
"This is mine and Matt's room." Sylvie says happily, opening the mahogany wooden door.
The bedroom is breathtaking.
The walls are a teal blue, with a grey brick fireplace, with a mantle and a mirror over the mantle, same as the ones down stairs.
The floor is a grey wood that complements the teal walls nicely.
There's two huge walk-in closets, a his and hers type of deal.
There's a built-in make-up vanity that's grey wood, and a big beautiful mirror over it.
There's also double French doors that lead out onto a balcony overlooking the backyard.
"This is amazing." Stella says.
"It's absolutely breathtaking." Emily adds.
"It's beautiful Sylvie." Chole tells the other women.
"Hell you could fit mine and randells whole house into this one room." Trudy says, making the others chuckle.
"It's amazing, you deserve it Sylvie." Cindy says patting Sylvie on the shoulder.
"Thanks everyone, now for the master bathroom." Sylvie says smiling.
She opens the double brown mahogany doors to reveal, a beautiful rock walled shower that has a glass sliding door, a beautiful 2 person jacuzzi bathtub, that has a tiled ledge around the whole thing, it also sits perfectly into the window so you can overlook the backyard.
There's a big beautiful brown countertop, with his and her sinks, with a big mirror over the counter, around the mirror has brown tiles.
There's also a smaller, brown brick fireplace across from the jacuzzi tub.
There's the toilet, and two tall cupboards for storage.
The floor is a light brown rock, and the walls are a tan brown color.
"Oh. My. God." Donna, Emily and Stella all say in unison, making the others chuckle.
"This is amazing Sylvie." Stella tells her best friend.
"Can I just, like, live here?" Donna asks, chuckling, which makes everyone else chuckle.
"But on a serious note it is gorgeous, Sylvie." Donna says.
"Thanks you guys." Sylvie says
"Here let's go over to Amelia's room, it's the only thing that isn't finished yet." Sylvie says then opens the brown mahogany door, to get the surpise of her life..
The room is painted half a pastel pink and half a pastel purple, with all the grey furniture that they wanted already set up.
Sylvie has tears in her eyes, she goes over to where there's a letter on the dresser.
She opens it and reads.
To my dearest Sylvie,
I wanted to get the basics done for you while you were at the hospital today with Amelia. I know you want to put the final touches on it, but I thought as her dad I should paint the room and put together the furniture.
I know you're gonna see this when you give the women a tour of the house while we start moving stuff into our home.
God I can't get enough of saying 'our' anything, you and Amelia make me the happiest man alive, I hope you never forget that.
Your my dream, Sylvie. You've made my dreams come true and I will spend everyday of my life making yours come true as well.
I love you Sylvie, forever and always.
Love,
Forever and always,
Matt. :) ️
Sylvie puts the letter in her pocket after she's read it at least ten times. She's got tears in her eyes.
"He did this, Matt got everything ready for our baby girl." Sylvie says still shocked.
"He's a good man Sylvie and he loves you and Amelia." Cindy says hugging the younger woman.
"See I told you he was head over heels for the two of you" Emily says, making Sylvie chuckle.
"That you did Em." Sylvie says. "He's perfect."
Just then they hear voices from down stairs.
"Sylvie where are you?" Matt yells through the house.
Sylvie races towards Matt's voice.
When she fiends him on the landing of the stairs, on the main level, she throws herself at the love of her life.
"You finished Amelias room." Is all Sylvie says, making Matt smile.
"Of course beautiful, you didn't think I was gonna let our princess come home without her room finished, now did you?" Matt's asks
"Honestly I wasn't sure." Sylvie admits.
"Well nothing could've stoped me from finishing it." Matt tells Sylvie happily.
"I love you so much, Matt Casey." Sylvie tells him, then kisses him tenderly, but she pours all her love into that kiss.
"I love you too, very much, beautiful." Matt tells Sylvie as they pull apart.
——-
They get everything into the house and all the delivery's show up.
Cindy and Herman offered Matt and Sylvie a bunch of Annbells stuff, from clothes, to play pens, strollers, bouncy chairs, all that good stuff, as well as baby toys and stuffie's which Matt and Sylvie accept appreciatively.
Cindy sends Herman to go gather the stuff as it's all in their basement ready to go, as she thought they might want it.
Cindy, Herman, Stella, Kelly and Emily stay later then the rest to put things together and help put the final touches on Amelia's room.
All in all It was a great day, with a great family. Better then either of them could ever ask for.
