A/N: Been very busy with work and school, apologies for the gap in updates. This was an idea given to me a while back by ThornsandRoses12, who has started their own stories, which you should all go read because they're Lalu and they're amazing!
This piece is a bit Laxus-centric. Hope you enjoy :)
Lucy's Sick, Laxus Panics
The first time Laxus saw Lucy puking in their bathroom, he thought nothing of it, just assumed that she had acute food poisoning from dinner the night before. When she ran to the women's bathroom in the guild later that day, he thought she had a severe case of food poisoning. The next day when he woke to the sounds of her gagging and hacking in the bathroom, he really grew concerned.
"Lucy, are you alright?" He pushed open the door to the bathroom and knelt down behind her to pull back her hair and rub her back.
She grabbed a piece of toilet paper and wiped her mouth before responding to him, her voice strained. "Yeah, I feel better after throwing up."
"Are you sick? Is there something you've been eating that's been making you feel unwell?" Laxus frowned as Lucy stood up to flush the toilet and rinse her mouth at the sink.
"Not that I know of." Lucy's eyebrows furrowed together as she looked at Laxus in the reflection of the mirror. "I'll ask Mira if she's been using new ingredients at the guild."
Laxus walked up behind her and rubbed his hands down her arms. "Do you want to stay home today? Maybe some rest will help."
Lucy leaned back against his chest and hummed. "I think I will stay home. I bought a new book I've been meaning to read."
"I won't be able to stay with you since I promised Gramps that I'd help him with paperwork today. Will you be alright by yourself?"
"I'm never truly alone when I've got my spirits," Lucy smiled.
"That's true," Laxus said. "And I know you can take care of yourself, but I still worry about you."
Lucy turned around to face him and wrapped her arms around his waist. "One of the many reasons why I love you." She raised herself on her tiptoes to peck his lips. "You should hurry up and get to the guild before Master punishes you with piles of paperwork again."
"Are you sure you'll be alright on your own? What if you get sick again?" Laxus hated to see Lucy in any sort of pain and as a dragon slayer, he knew just how bad and how annoying nausea and vomiting could be.
"I promise I'll be fine. And Virgo can help me if I need anything." Lucy smiled sweetly before dragging him back into their bedroom. She pushed him towards the dresser before settling herself back into bed. "I'll call or send a text through my lacrima phone if I need you."
"You better." After dressing in his signature purple button-up, black pants, boots, and fur-lined coat, Laxus kissed Lucy on the forehead. "I'll stop by that restaurant you like and get you some soup on my way home."
"I'd love that, thank you baby." Lucy pulled him down for a quick bed before rolling onto her side and snuggling up to Laxus' side of the bed, his thunderstorm scent soothing her rolling stomach.
"I love you. Call me if you get sick again and I'll be over in a flash." Laxus winked and grinned as he exited their bedroom.
Lucy rolled her eyes at his silly pun but smiled nonetheless. It was sweet of him to worry over her so much, but she'd dealt with worse. A little nausea and vomiting couldn't knock her down for long. She nuzzled her nose into Laxus' pillow and fell into a deep slumber.
An hour later, Laxus was in his grandfather's office filling out council forms and drafting apology letters to several towns for Fairy Tail destruction across Fiore. Despite the tall stack of papers in front of him, he couldn't help his mind drifting back to Lucy and her sudden sickness. Could it just be food poisoning? He'd have to ask Mira if she'd been experimenting with her recipes when he went down to the bar for lunch.
"Laxus, you seem distracted."
Laxus raised his head to meet his grandfather's concerned gaze. He sighed and set down his pen. "It's Lucy."
"Is something wrong? Don't tell me she's leaving you. How did you manage to fu—"
"No she's not leaving me!" Laxus interrupted. "Is that really the first thing that came to your mind?"
"Well considering I still don't understand how the two of you ended up together in the first place, yes." His Gramps fingers played with his moustache. "Have you met yourself? It's a miracle she even puts up with your arrogant ass."
Laxus rolled his eyes. "We love each other and have been living together for over a year." He suddenly smirked. "And she happens to love my ass very much."
"Don't be disgusting, Laxus. I don't want to know what you two do together." A gleam reached his grandfather's eyes. "Though if you want to talk about her ass, I'd be more than happy to dis—"
"Absolutely not, perverted old man," Laxus gritted out.
"Hmph well." Gramps crossed his arms and sighed. "So why are you concerned about Lucy?"
Laxus leaned forward to rest his arms on the desk. "She's been vomiting the past two days. I'm not sure if she has food poisoning, that usually only lasts about 24 hours."
Gramps jumped up in his chair and leaned over Laxus. "Has she been vomiting in the morning?"
"Yeah? What's that got to do with anything?" Laxus eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he backed away from his excitable grandfather.
"Have the two of you been using protection?"
"Gramps, what the hell!"
"Answer the question."
"Er, well…" Laxus scratched the back of his head with a sheepish expression. "We haven't the last few times."
"Lucy's pregnant!" Gramps clapped his hands together and danced around the top of his desk, not caring for the papers scattering across the office. "Great grandbabies, I'm finally getting great grandbabies!"
"Eh?!" Laxus stood from his chair so quickly, it clattered to the floor behind him. "No way!"
"Laxus, my boy, morning sickness is one of the first symptoms of pregnancy, it has to be that."
"I-I have to go." Laxus rushed out of the office just as Gramps began yelling about having 30 great grandbabies.
He clambered down the stairs and made his way over to the bar. "Mira!" He drummed his fingers on the bartop restlessly. Could Lucy really be pregnant? She would have told him, wouldn't she? Did she even know herself?
"Laxus! What can I do for you?" The white-haired barmaid smiled sweetly, oblivious to the rapid fire questions exploding through Laxus' mind.
"I need a shot of the strongest thing we have," he grumbled.
Mira's smile turned into a frown as she noticed Laxus' rigid posture. "Is everything okay?"
"Just fine. Shot please."
She nodded and made her way to the back counter. She returned with a shot glass and a bottle of hard liquor. Pouring the glass slowly, Mira analyzed Laxus.
"Stop looking at me and serve that drink faster," Laxus snapped.
"Where's Lucy?" Her eyes narrowed as she slid the glass across the bar.
"She's at home," Laxus replied after downing the shot. "I gotta get back to her." He slammed a few bills on the counter and stormed out of the guild before Mira could ask more.
Gods, is Lucy really pregnant? Is she? Laxus lost himself in another tirade of questions as he walked through Magnolia. He was pulled out of his thoughts as he heard giggling ahead of him. Walking ahead of him, a couple pushed a stroller with twins, both parents cooing at the babies' babbling. Laxus felt a pull on his heart as he passed the family and one of the babies turned to face him with a toothy smile, saliva falling from the baby's small lips. He felt his lips quirk in response and began walking faster as he realized what he was doing.
Are we ready for children? Is Lucy ready to be a mother? Am I ready to be a father? Lost in thought once again, Laxus was jolted from his inner musings when a tiny body ran into his legs. He bent quickly to catch the falling person and nearly shocked himself in surprise when a toddler looked up at him with wide brown eyes. For a moment, Laxus saw Lucy's eyes and a little boy with his blond hair.
"Tommy! Be careful!" A young mother rushed over and collected the young boy in her arms before looking up at Laxus. "I'm so sorry, he's at that age where he likes to run off and explore."
Laxus cleared his throat. "No problem." And he bolted out of there before he met those little brown orbs again.
He sped to the restaurant he promised Lucy he'd get her soup from and hoped he wouldn't run into any more children. But it wasn't more little tykes he had to worry about as he noticed a store front with baby clothes and baby items on display. His steps faltered as he neared it and saw a little dress in the same shade of blue Lucy liked to wear. He paused in front of the shop as a vision of a little girl who looked exactly like Lucy appeared before him. Shaking his head, Laxus backed away from the building and lightning transported to the front of the restaurant. He would not risk anymore baby visions or interactions.
When Laxus arrived home with Lucy's soup, he heard clanging from the kitchen. He leaned against the kitchen doorway as he watched her prepare tea. Clad in one of his band t-shirts that reached her thighs and fuzzy socks, with her hair thrown up in a loose ponytail, she was a vision. She hummed a tune as she danced around the kitchen.
"Feeling better?"
Laxus laughed as Lucy squeaked in surprise and nearly dropped a tea cup.
"You're home early!" Lucy ran up to him and threw herself in his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist.
"Whoa, careful, you're going to drop the soup I brought you," Laxus chuckled as he steadied her with one hand and set the bag of takeout on the countertop. He gripped her thighs as she grasped his face in her palms.
"I have to thank Master for letting you come home early. I've missed you." She teased the hair at his nape with her fingers. "It's lonely here without you."
Oops, should I tell her Gramps didn't let me come early? Laxus thought, but then he reasoned, He didn't protest so she doesn't have to know the truth.
"Why don't you eat your soup while I finish preparing the tea?" Laxus rubbed a hand over her back. "Are you still feeling sick?"
Lucy slid down his body as she replied, "Just a little nausea, but I haven't thrown up again, so I think I'll be in the clear soon."
"Good. I hate seeing my girl sick." Laxus pecked her lips then moved around her to finish preparing the tea.
Later that night, Laxus smoothed his palm over Lucy's stomach as she slept. As he spent the rest of the day with her, he quickly realized that he'd be ecstatic if Lucy were pregnant. They loved each other, he had a large amount of savings from his S-Class jobs, they had spare rooms in their house. All he had to do was marry the love of his life and everything would be perfect. He'd have to talk to Mira and Evergreen about helping him plan the perfect proposal. Laxus rubbed his thumb over Lucy's belly and smiled. Yes, he would be very happy if they had a baby.
Over the next week, Lucy's symptoms did not ease at all and Laxus firmly believed that she was indeed pregnant. Fortunately, his grandfather hadn't blabbed to the whole guild, so only the two of them were aware of Lucy's condition. Everyone else only knew she was sick, a possible case of extreme food poisoning or the stomach flu. They would have had Lucy checked by a doctor, but the only two they trusted had yet to return from a journey for medicinal herbs outside of Fiore. As they waited for Porlyusica and Wendy to diagnose Lucy, Laxus and his grandfather made grand plans for the arrival of a new Dreyar.
The two secretly and slowly filled a room in Gramps' cottage with all the baby necessities: a crib, a changing table, a rocking chair, a bouncer, packs of different bottle and pacifier types, boxes of diapers, and drawers filled with gender-neutral pajamas, outfits, and blankets. If anyone had seen what the two were doing, they would have called them crazy. But Laxus was excited, and so was Gramps, and what was the harm in being extra prepared for a new family member?
If Lucy noticed anything, she didn't say. Not wanting to be cooped up at home while she rode out her sickness, Laxus took her to the guild for a few hours every day. Mira obsessively sanitized everything Lucy touched to avoid anyone else catching her ailment, but when no one else got sick, Laxus and his grandfather concluded Lucy could only be pregnant.
Laxus stood or sat protectively by her each time they visited the guild. If a brawl broke out, he electrocuted everyone involved and carried Lucy home where runes would keep their troublesome guildmates out. When Natsu or Gray got too close, he pulled them by the collar of their shirts and tossed them across the guild. He tasted everything Lucy ordered at the bar before she ate it. It was when Lucy ordered a strawberry daiquiri at a guild party that she finally responded to Laxus' reaction after he downed the entire drink himself before she could even reach for her glass.
"Laxus, what the hell?! Order your own drink!" Lucy huffed, waving Mira over again. "Hey Mira, another strawberry daiquiri please. This brute drank the first one I ordered."
"Of course, Lucy. Coming right up!" The barmaid bounced into the kitchen and the sounds of the blender echoed in the dead air between Laxus and Lucy.
Lucy turned to him with her arms folded under her chest. "What's up with you? You've been acting weird all week."
Laxus balked. "You're sick! I'm just trying to take care of you." He cleared his throat and crossed his own arms over his chest. "Besides, you shouldn't be drinking in your condition."
"My condition? Laxus I've been puking half of what I eat or drink anyway, I just want to feel a little buzz to get me through Gajeel's singing later tonight."
Laxus couldn't help but cringe at that. Mira allowed an open-mic at tonight's party, so Gajeel was definitely going to sing.
"Let's just go home," he said. "We don't have to suffer through Gajeel's singing."
"But I haven't been at the guild much, I don't want to leave yet," Lucy pouted. "Besides, Wendy and Porly return tomorrow so we'll know what's wrong with me soon enough."
Laxus was about to protest when Mira slid a newly made daiquiri in Lucy's direction. Lucy's eyes brightened as she grasped the cool glass in her hand and thanked Mira. When Mira bounced down the bar to attend to other guildmates, Laxus pulled the drink from Lucy's hand just as the rim of the glass met her lips.
"Laxus!" A tick formed on Lucy's forehead as she watched Laxus down her new drink. "What the hell is wr—"
She cut herself off as Laxus' rough palm slid up the inside of her thigh and under her skirt. Her hand quickly grasped his wrist in an attempt to push him away, but he pulled himself closer to her and whispered in her ear.
"Let's go home." His thumb brushed the bundle of nerves between her thighs and Lucy grabbed onto his shoulder as she shivered. "Please."
Heart racing, Lucy nodded as her breath began to shallow.
The next morning, Lucy woke to Laxus nuzzling her bare stomach. She smiled and pulled on his hair to get his attention. His sleepy-eyes brightened as he noticed her awake. He climbed over her body and pulled her in for a long, tender kiss.
"Lucy?"
"Hm?"
Their lips and limbs moved lazily in the morning light. Laxus' hand trailed down Lucy's body to settle on her belly.
"Do you want children?"
"Huh?! Why are you asking me that?" Lucy sat up quickly and Laxus followed.
"Well, do you?" Laxus was afraid she'd say no. Did she not want their baby?
"Laxus...I—"
She didn't get to respond as their doorbell rang. Laxus sniffed the air.
"It's the old hag and little blue."
"Finally!" Lucy jumped out of bed and quickly got dressed, running down the stairs before Laxus could even pull his pants up.
His mind was abuzz. Would they find out they were going to have a baby? Was it too soon to know the gender? Would Lucy be happy?
When he got downstairs fully dressed, Lucy lay across the couch as Wendy ran her magic over her. The young dragon slayer's eyebrows were tight with concentration.
"Well child, what did you find?" The impatient old woman said.
"There's something near her stomach, just a bit longer and I'll know for sure," Wendy replied.
Laxus' heart soared. Was he going to be a father in 9 months?
Lucy looked over at him with a hesitant smile and Laxus suddenly wished his magic was to read minds because he had no idea what was going through Lucy's head.
"Huh," Wendy said as she stopped the flow of magic.
"What is it?" Lucy asked worriedly.
Laxus waited excitedly to hear that they would be having a baby. Him and Lucy. A baby with the love of his life.
"Well at first I thought you might be pregnant…"
Wait.
Laxus' heart clenched painfully. It must have shown on his face because Lucy looked at him worriedly.
"But it's just a virus. A magical one. What was your last mission?" Wendy asked as she stepped away from Lucy to let her sit up.
Laxus stood back, disappointed.
"Soon after you left with Porlyusica, Team Natsu went on a mission to defeat a dark guild that fronted as an apothecary shop. One of their mages hit me with a spell, but I thought nothing of it because nothing happened. I didn't get sick until almost a week later. I didn't make the connection. Can you heal it?" Lucy's lips formed into a frown.
Wendy smiled and nodded. "I was able to heal most of it already. It will fade completely in a few days."
"Good, we're done here. Come on child, I want to teach you how to use the herbs we got." Porlyusica didn't wait for Wendy as she stormed out of the house.
"I'm glad it was nothing serious, Lucy. See you later!" Wendy bounded after the old hag, closing the front door behind her.
"Well that's a relief." Lucy melted back onto the couch.
When Laxus said nothing, Lucy looked over her shoulder to find him staring at their front door with a sullen expression.
"Laxus?" Lucy called. No response.
Lucy's eyebrows drew together as she made her way over to her boyfriend. She rested her hands gently against his chest. "Laxus."
He looked down at her and Lucy's eyes widened and his pain-filled storm eyes. "Laxus, what's wrong?"
He blinked and suddenly the pain disappeared as he smiled at her. "Nothing. I'm glad you're okay."
"Laxus…"
"What do you want for breakfast? I'll cook today." He attempted to pull away but Lucy hooked her arms around him.
"Laxus, talk to me."
He couldn't resist her pleading eyes so he sighed and told her the truth, "I wanted you to be pregnant. I hoped that's why you were feeling sick. Gramps told me it could be morning sickness and at first I was scared, but then I kept seeing babies and baby stuff and I warmed up to the idea of you carrying our child."
Lucy's eyes filled with tears and Laxus thought he should have just lied, but then she smiled her beautiful smile reserved just for him and he felt his heart bloom.
"Laxus, I would love nothing more than to have your baby." She giggled as she wiped away fallen tears. "I wasn't sure how you felt about it though. I thought we'd wait a few more years until after we were married." She beamed up at him and Laxus couldn't help the huge grin that stretched his lips. "But if you're ready to have a baby with me, let's do it!"
Laxus didn't need to be told twice as he lifted her into his arms and crashed his lips into hers. He climbed the stairs, massaging her ass as their mouths moved over each other in a heated dance of tongues and teeth. He tore off her clothes as he reached their bedroom and watched her nude form bounce on the bed as he unbuckled his belt. Her breasts swayed enticingly and her flushed cheeks and fanned hair had him groaning at the sight of her. Once all his clothes were off, Lucy reached up to pull him into her, her legs wrapping tightly around his hips and hands gripping his broad shoulders.
"Put a baby in me, Laxus."
Lucy gasped as he entered her without warning, her body trembling under his touch. They made love over and over until their bodies begged for nourishment.
"Do you think we'll have a boy or girl?"
"I don't know. I'll be happy with either," Lucy smiled. "Why do you ask?"
"A lot of the stuff me and Gramps bought is yellow, so I was picturing if I'd rather see a baby boy or a baby girl in a giraffe pajama."
"You two did what?!"
"Don't move, you'll make my mini-me's swim against gravity."
"Gods, what am I going to do with you?"
"We're going to make 30 babies."
"Absolutely not."
