A/N: Hey guys! It's like you read my mind. :D

Something You've Read Before

Chapter Twenty One

The Redeeming Factor

A moment of silence engulfed the hospital's hallway. Mikan only stared at the door leading to Kaname's room, her hearing intensified since her vision blurred while Rui took a seat on the floor parallel to the door with hands rested on his knees, looking slumped and tired. The events turned out to be more complicated than she imagined. Mikan made a fist because of the frustration that ignited in her veins, unable to form the right choice of words to answer all the newly popped questions in her mind. She then sat beside Rui whose gaze followed her. He knew that Mikan had questions and he did not want to make it harder for her. Rui explained it to a bunch of people before but it never came easier, still as hard as hearing it for the first time.

"It's Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It's a type of cancer that usually spurts at adolescence, treatable if we follow the right treatment. Kaname was diagnosed early this year. You see he had been sickly since he was a kid so we thought that it's just immune system playing tricks on him but it is actually his immune system failing him. His treatment started after the diagnosis and costs a lot of money."

From the diagnostic tests Kaname had taken to being admitted because he just was not getting any better, the Sonos were always stable financially having a few businesses but they only had enough to last for a while. Kaname undergone radiation treatment first until the doctor said that it was time to be aggressive and also received chemotherapy resulting in his weakened state, losing weight, being prone to infection. It was just Kaname's hardheadedness that allowed him to go to school and that Shirahama trip but his doctor forbade him to be in a place full of people. There were days that Kaname felt fine, almost thinking like he did not have cancer, that he was a healthy human being but some other days proved that wrong. Nevertheless, Kaname was always optimistic.

"The competition in November. The money is for that?" Mikan asked for clarification.

Rui nodded. "It is one of the most celebrated competitions in high school level. Since his body cannot take any more stress, we settled for that specific competition because of the cash prize, the contract, and the opportunity that will come after that."

Even in real life, photographers struggled in finding a stable job. There were many types of photography that one could venture in and with the competition so tight they had to build a network while they were young and upcoming. But for Rui and Kaname, earning money was not their motivation to pursue this art. They wanted to tell stories using people's expressions. Their view about the world was not shallow and always looking on the whys of things. Why did a woman have a convoluted look while she watched her child weep? Why did lovers have tantalizing eyes when looking at each other? What made the eyes see? Why did adding aritificial lights to a photo gave it another meaning all over? Those were the many things they loved about taking photos.

Mikan felt like she did not deserve this honesty because who was she? They just met them! The involvement scared her but her nature of extending help told her to see this until the end. She did not expect such a life-changing reason on why Kaname and the others desperately pushed for their rights as club members and the truth they told gave her feelings of devastation and reconciliation. Cancer was as heavy as it sounded. The prognosis for the type Kaname had was good but how true it was in his case? Mikan's expression turned firm. This gave her more reason to rally for their cause.

"Thank you for sharing me this."

"Don't tell anyone. I don't want people to side with us just because Kaname's sick. He especially do not want special treatment. Actually, I think it's more of our reason, the money, I mean. Kaname just wants to do photography."

"I got it," Mikan promised, standing up to dust off her clothes, "See you tomorrow in school?" she asked with a smile and Rui nodded in reply.

Mikan went home without telling things to her father. Her thoughts were still jumbled and her promise not to tell anyone outweighed her obligation to tell everything to Narumi. She acted her best to look natural and unaffected but her fight with Natsume and discovery of Kaname's sickness occupied her mind. Mikan struggled to finished her chemistry homework, taking her two hours of jumping back and forth from her bed to her study table, her thoughts bothered her a lot. She evaluated her actions and what she had to actually help everyone? Mikan messed her hair. This was exactly why Natsume got angry at her, for being so nosy and yet she could not change that part of her.

Mikan wanted to ask him what was so irritating about it and what could she do to lessen the effect on him but talking to Natsume was not in her agenda today. She had no courage to face him. Instead of reeling over ways how to make Natsume realize, it was more important to talk to the Student Council as a whole. Yes, that was more efficient. Waking up the next day, Mikan felt like her soul had yet to return to her earthly self. Who was she kidding? Of course it bothered her to the core that Natsume was angry at her. She never felt comfortable knowing a person she cared about held animosity toward her. Mikan took a bath in deep thoughts and wore her uniform like a habit without much caring if she looked neat or clumsy.

Alice Academy gave the same vibe that day to Mikan, like there was not an internal struggle happening to its students although the issues was resonant on the Sports Club and other clubs related to media and arts. Sighing became a norm for her and with one sigh done, a realization hit her every time. Natsume must be upset because he was expecting her support but she did otherwise or he just did not like it when he was proven wrong. Natsume had to work on that attitude then and Mikan had to work on knowing her limits. Mikan was again lost in thought as she travelled to reach her classroom. Her pacing slowed with her eyes glued on the floor, almost hitting the 'Caution: Wet Floor' sign if someone had not called her name.

"Hi, Mikan!" Koko called out as he waved and jumped upon seeing her presence. Ruka was also beside him.

"Hello, Mikan." Ruka made a small wave with an aloof smile. Mikan acknowledged their presence with a short nod.

"Have you seen, Natsume?" Koko asked cheerfully.

Mikan's face turned annoyed. "No. Why would I see him?"

Both Ruka and Koko were taken aback by the expression Mikan just gave and being the witnesses of Natsume's fouls mood yesterday, they connected the dots. They had a fight, the two boys concluded.

"Ah… because you're always together and find each other without asking where the other person is?" Koko jibed.

"That's the crappiest thing I've heard in a while," Mikan retorted, rolling her eyes, "Never saw him and don't care about him. But, I want to talk to you about the Photography Club."

Ruka automatically eyed Koko. The news about their dismissal had been stirring students and if Mikan was directly asking them about it, it meant that she was involved or bothered by it somehow.

"Do you support them?" Ruka asked.

"As a matter of fact, I do. I mean, the whole school does if you haven't noticed. You should really reconsider." Mikan eyed them both, waiting for a response.

Reality slapped Ruka in the face. He looked around him and noticed the students' meaningful stares. The situation must be rectified as soon as possible and owning up to their mistakes was the most dignified route in this ordeal or else they would lose the trust of the students which was every student council's nightmare. "We are and that's why we're trying to find Natsume."

"Will he help?" Mikan doubted.

"Knowing Natsume, he probably realized things by now," Ruka stated.

Mikan huffed. Surely all this time it was not only her soaked in thoughts of their fight. Natsume knew how to apologize when he realized his mistake which was good but had Natsume realized it by now? Because there was no signs of him popping out of nowhere and muttering an apology.

"Even if you don't gain his support, we are here to back your cause. You have to help the club. They need it. They need it more than you think. If you would just talk to them and ask them why do they have to exist, you'll understand." There was intensity in Mikan's tone which also made Koko quiver a little.

Ruka only gave in, feeling guilty that they dis not address the situation sooner. "Okay, okay. I get it, Mikan. Don't worry too much."

Mikan placed a hand on Ruka's shoulder. "I trust you, Ruka."

"Thanks," Ruka muttered calmly but deep inside he was pressured.

Mikan bid her goodbyes and they still had no idea where Natsume was. Ruka was certain that Mikan and Natsume had a misunderstanding, very noticeable on their actions and the way Mikan referred Natsume earlier. Koko suggested a few more places on where Natsume could be hiding, dialing his number while they were on the move but the operator said that it could not be reached. The raven haired boy might not be in school, they started theorizing but it was not in Natsume's nature to skip school on such delicate times. They asked a handful of students and teachers if they saw the vice president that morning, but no one saw a glimpse of him. They needed to talk to Natsume already hence the rush of the search. Why did people experiencing problems do not want to be seen? Ruka rested on the bench just across the library while Koko waited for his coins to return from the defective vending machine.

A place with no signal, where no one could notice you, where you could hide without thinking of the time, where usually people who feared facing another person went to: The Library. Ruka almost fell from the bench with that deduction. He stood up, grabbed Koko by the neck but in a gentle manner which still made Koko yelped, and entered the library without second thoughts. They tapped their IDs, went under light security in case they had food that needed to be confiscated, and searched for Natsume. The library was almost empty that time so looking for a person was easy but if that certain person did not want to be found, then the easy would not be anymore.

"If I am Natsume, where would I be?" Ruka asked himself.

Koko's confusion as to why Ruka dragged him suddenly was gone. "No one goes to the children's books section," he stated casually, hoping to help.

Ruka snapped his fingers and went to the said section while Koko only followed his quick steps. Indeed, no one occupied the two long wooden tables, the books looked untouched as per Ruka's observation as they passed by shelf to shelf. They reached the end but seen no one until Koko tapped Ruka in the shoulder, pointing at the far end of the last row. Ruka slowly walked to discover the owner of the legs, finally revealing their sly friend. Ruka kicked his friend on the leg lightly to earn his attention.

"What?" Natsume looked up, Little Red Riding Hood on his hands. The little nudges on the legs from Koko this time interrupted his reading.

Ruka found the scene unfamiliar and child-like. It looked like Natsume was regressing as a defense mechanism. "Hey, man, we want to talk to you. You phone's off, you were gone suddenly yesterday, and now you're here hiding in the library. I'm guessing this is not about the student council anymore, right?"

"I just needed time to think," Natsume replied, turning a page.

"Are you okay?" Koko was also not used to a sulking Natsume Hyuuga because Natsume usually expressed his anger in defeating everyone in any game which was too bad in Koko's case.

Natsume stood up, closing the book, and took a seat properly on the chair. "Not yet."

Admitting that he was not yet at his best state, that he had yet to finish the unfinished business, Koko flustered witnessing an imperfect Natsume Hyuuga. It was obvious that Natsume lacked sleep due to exhaustion shown in his face and isolating himself gave justice to his statement that he was not yet okay. Ruka still told the reason for seeking him out. The personal should be set aside in the meantime to prioritize the general problem but if the personal clashed with the general problem then Natsume just had to take extra caution this time.

"We need your help regarding the issue with the Photography Club. We know that you don't like changing the decision we already gave and that it heavily involves Aunt Kaoru but please see this as the vice president of the student council and not as Natsume."

Natsume expected this already and he did not have the energy to argue anymore. "What can I do?" he asked.

"We contacted the organizers for the photo competition in November only to be told that participants representing the school are the only ones officially allowed." Koko supplemented.

Natsume massaged his temple. "So, the only way to enter is to maintain the club status."

Ruka nodded, his face showed relief with Natsume's accepting tone. "We have yet to talk to them why they wanted to join that badly."

"Who is going to talk to them?" Natsume asked, already forming a plan in his head. Actually, he opted that Kaname and the others could join even without the club because if things went wrong with Kaoru, that could their saving grace but that option went to dust also.

"Why don't we all go?" Koko suggested.

"Let's not make them think that we're cornering them," Ruka quickly denied the suggestion.

"I'll go," Natsume declared.

Ruka saw the resolve in his best friend's face. "I'll come with you."

"We also need you to do something," Koko added.

The sound of that statement vibrated weird waves to Natsume. Having a task specific to his name spelled trouble for him. "What?" he asked with a growl.

Koko smiled nervously then unable to continue his sentence so Ruka overtook the role of explaining the scheme to Natsume.

"The most peaceful way to solve this is if we talk to Luna and asked her to return the sponsorship."

Natsume laughed incredulously mixed with his venomous appeal. "It's not that simple."

"We can at least try. I'm sure if you talk to her, she'll agree."

"That's if I want to talk to her. There's no way we will be indebted to her."

When they asked Luna a favor, something was needed to be done in return and that was the last thing Natsume wanted. But, surely, the rest of the council already thought of that but they still gave the idea a go signal. Time would be wasted if this case would be taken to the officials of the school and they only had less than two days to make overturn of decision a success.

"Luna might be oblivious with all this but we only have two days until they are officially dismissed, so basically speaking, we need to hurry up," Ruka reasoned out.

Koko added, "We have to do what we can, Natsume."

Ruka's eyes were full of courage and encouragement. "We'll come with you. We will talk as the Student Council like we always do."

"I agree!" Koko chimed.

There was a promise in Ruka's voice and he was not known to be a liar or the one who gave false hopes. The school relied on the council's decision regarding this matter, though the pressure was high and lots of backlash toward them were thrown, they faced everything together. The librarian sent a warning through the alarms spread on the entire library because of Koko's sudden increase in volume of voice. The boys laughed at each other and suddenly the mood was lighter. This was Natsume's chance to prove that money or being rich had no meaning inside the council. This was also another way of overthrowing Kaoru's power tripping tendencies. Mikan's accusations echoed in Natsume's mind. He thought if she really meant those words but before he forgot, he said terrible things too.

"Okay. I owe this one to Mikan," Natsume declared before he packed his things and bid, "See you later."

Natsume exited the library while formulating the scenarios that were possible to happen in his mind. Ruka watched him went with a smile.

"You mean he's in a bad mood since yesterday because he had a fight with Mikan? Are they dating?" Koko finally asked. It was the question he sought since earlier.

Ruka narrowed his eyes, sneering. "Well, no. As far as I know."

Koko was not convinced. Ruka dragged him to the exit door so they could finally lay out the plan but Koko let his mind talked. "Which reminds me how they look at each other in the cafeteria just the other day. They were in good terms then. Imagine how everything can change in just a day."

After a quick meeting with the council members, Hotaru and Natsume were tasked to inquire about Kaname Sono and Rui Amane's real reason on defending their club. The rest of the council welcomed Natsume back with open arms knowing it was not about the length of time that he had a different opinion from them but it was to show that their camaraderie could be liken to that of a family. Ruka explained the plan in detail. First, they had to determine if the Photography Club deserved help. Second, ask Luna the favor and third, confront Kaoru Hyuuga. Everything looked achievable except for the part where Kaoru Hyuuga must be convinced. Dealing with a superpower like that also needed a superpower opponent and luck was on their side that Natsume changed his mind about the dismissal. The council had gained back their ace. They were on the move after the meeting's adjournment and their first destination was Kaname Sono's home. Apparently, the two people they wanted to see, namely Rui Amane and Kaname Sono, did not go to class that day so to their homes they went.

Hotaru determined Kaname Sono's address by accessing the school database. How did she get the username and the password? Well, Hotaru would never tell. Ruka was just amazed and scared by how efficient she worked, fully aware that hiding anything from Hotaru was unescapable. Sumire brought her mini van so they only rode one car and be together all the time but this meant she was the driver. Koko readied his pills for nausea. Really, he loved the girl but detested her driving. Ruka offered to drive only to be deflected by Sumire's cheshire smile. Natsume had to focus on what he would say later than focus his mind on the road while Yura had no license. Hotaru warned Sumire to always read signs and be disciplined no matter what to which she nodded and then evil smirk was made by Sumire when Hotaru was not in view.

Everyone was in and their seatbelts already fastened. Koko feared for his life but he knew better than to squeal his demons. Sumire started the engine of the shift stick van with confidence high in the air. Yura reminded everyone especially the driver to keep safe. Then, their souls stayed at the academy while their bodies were on the car.

The sloppy brakes and turns of Sumire gave the passengers motion sickness. Even Natsume who had no motion sickness felt sick on Sumire's driving. They missed Kaname's place not just once but twice and on the third time, Hotaru finally snapped and turned the steering wheel to the right and then they reached the village. A small village where everyone knew anyone. Right after Sumire parked the car like it was just dumped on the side, Ruka asked the people around where was the Sonos residence but they found themselves inside the car again, onto the next destination and begged Sumire to be extremely careful.

"Why the hospital?" Natsume asked when Hotaru entered the address on the GPS.

"The family tasked the village chief that if ever someone looks for them, just tell them they are in the hospital," Hotaru explained.

Yura had a brown bag on her hands, refraining herself from spilling her guts. "We could have walked from the academy to get to that hospital," she managed to say bursting regrets. The others were just silent but they could not agree more.

"You sure about that, Imai?" Natsume asked for confirmation as they stood in front of a tall, white building.

"Why don't we confirm that inside?" Hotaru retorted.

The others went with Sumire to park and stood by the Starbucks on the ground floor of the hospital while Hotaru and Natsume went to the information center. It could be anyone who was admitted to the hospital so they had to be general in answering when asked questions. Ruka volunteered to go with the two but Hotaru felt three people were already a crowd and that male species with conflict gathering together was not the very best idea. Natsume signaled Hotaru to do the questioning and answering.

"Hello. Is there a patient here under Sono?"

The woman assigned in the information was in her 40s, looking bright in her smile but investigative in her eyes. "What's your relationship with the patient?" she asked.

Hotaru said with a straight face, "Cousins."

The woman quickly encoded the surname on the system, informing them of the results. "Well, we have four Sonos currently on the census. What's his first name please?"

This was trickier than they thought. Sometimes, just being honest made everything smoother. They did not know who the patient was and identifying themselves as cousins made it suspicious if they lack that information. It took a while before Hotaru answered.

"Ahmm… Kaname."

Natsume's eyes widened with the namedrop because that caught his attention. What if it was Kaname who was admitted? The woman clicked something on the computer maybe to warn the nurse station that a visitor was to be expected.

"Room 411," the woman answered.

Hotaru made a smile. "Thanks a lot."

The duo headed for the elevator. So, Kaname was sick which was the most valid reason why he was in the hospital. They hoped it was nothing serious but they had a feeling that it was serious enough for him to be admitted in a crucial moment.

"Why is he admitted in a hospital at a time like this?" Natsume said his thoughts aloud.

The elevator ride was short. Hotaru had the same question as well. "Well, we're about to find out."

A courtesy to the nurses station was made in case it was needed and to avoid unnecessary commotion. They confirmed that room 411 was indeed Kaname Sono's, Natsume's face in deep curiosity. Walking to the cream-painted hallways served as a mini adventure to both Hotaru and Natsume, realizing how hospital hallways looked creepier than the normal ones. Their tracks stopped when they saw just the person they wanted to talk to.

"Hyuuga. What are you doing here?" Rui asked, emerging from the door beside room 411. It appeared to be the visitor's quarters.

"We mean no harm, Amane. We went to Sono's home and got a note to go straight here," Natsume explained.

"Is Sono fine? Why is he here?" Hotaru questioned.

Rui snorted. "As if you care. Are you here to personally give us the letter of closure?" he mocked.

"It's actually the opposite. We're here to help." Hotaru clarified while avoiding to be annoyed.

Rui felt antagonism upon seeing the two especially Natsume whom they approached many times only to be rejected. What Hotaru said only put Rui in disbelief knowing well that the Student Council had no intention of changing their minds. Rui also wanted to know how they found out that they were in the hospital as if someone tipped them. It looked like they knew that Kaname was sick but the look on Natsume and Hotaru's faces told him that they did not know the whole story. Rui saw confusion and strength on their expressions and as for their purpose of coming here, the sincerity he doubted at first.

"What changed your mind?"

Natsume had many answers to that question but it all boiled down to doing what was right. He had a personal and a professional reason but Rui did not need to know that. Natsume stepped forward, reminding himself to be humble and accept his mistakes. Knowing your mistake was one thing but admitting it to the person involved took a lot of effort. He remembered Mikan's words and how she looked so disappointed.

"Look, I know we're wrong. We tried standing up to our decisions but it gets us every time until we realized that we're doing this wrong that is why we can't remain calm. So, we're here to negotiate things with you but in order for us to be successful, you have to help us, too."

If there was someone or something that could help the state of their club right now, it was definitely the student council and that was the nagging truth Rui tried to ignore. The council itself offered their help, Natsume Hyuuga was not an easy man to talk to, and Hotaru Imai had all the credibility in the world. Rui thought of what would Kaname say at this time. They always had conflicting ideas but compromise was their best attitude. It took a minute before Rui agreed with the proposition.

"Fine. For the club."

Hotaru lightened up with that mini victory and laid out the plans they came up. "First, we need to make your club more productive. We're planning to give you the task of taking the photos for the yearbook and we mean not just the students but every corner of Alice Academy. Since you want to be identified as a group who can do something different from photojournalists of the school paper, you can publish monthly articles about photography lessons in your own world and you can start by being someone the students can relate to."

"Phone photography is what we have in mind. Not everyone is interested in complicated cameras." Natsume learned this from just a simple search on the internet. It was a trend but it never happened in the academy.

"What about the competition in November?" Rui did not forget to ask.

"Why do you want to join so badly?" Natsume's question was everyone's question from the council.

Rui smirked. "Not only join but win. We want that prize money."

"For what?" asked Hotaru.

Rui sighed, allowing himself to tell them so they could help full throttle but he refrained from saying the specific details. "As you can see, Kaname is not in his most healthy state these days. We're doing this for him. Not all students in the academy are rich like you guys. Some of us get by because we are on scholarships."

Hotaru knew it very well. "I understand your sentiment."

"So, where's Sono?" Natsume inquired.

"Visitors are limited for now. There is a high risk of infection. We don't know how long but the prognosis for Hodgkin's is good so we're betting our chances."

Hotaru furrowed her eyebrows, having a little knowledge about the mentioned disease. She read it in one of Subaru's books when she was a child since oncology interested her unlike any other topics in medicine while Natsume displayed his usual emotion of nonchalance. They both did not want to ask further as not to stereotype or sympathize, no one even talked after the revelation either. Rui told the truth because he promised to cooperate and in disclosing everything he would get the council's full support. This was one of those times when he hated using the sickness card to gain sympathy but based on the reactions of Hotaru and Natsume, they were surprised but no hints of judgment.

"No wonder you guys are so passionate about this. I understand now. That you wanted to help a friend," Hotaru stated.

Rui felt a little emotional because all their hard work together as a club revisited his mind. "But, you didn't and it's fine. We don't want everyone to know anyways. His sickness should not be the reason to regain that club status but I guess it has its wonders, no matter how pathetic that sounded."

"What else can we do to help? You have the Student Council's support." Natsume had his tenacity in full.

"What are you going to do?"

"We will return what you lost."

"Then that's enough," Rui claimed in a nod. "You know, Hyuuga, Mikan left here in such low spirits. Make sure she's okay."

Hotaru's attention perked up with the name drop of her friend. She smiled inwardly, not even taken aback by the fact that Mikan already involved herself with this. Hotaru would even be surprised if Mikan was not involved. She examined Natsume's reaction from Rui's statement and if Hotaru got it right, it seemed like Rui knew that Natsume and Mikan were very close.

"I will."

The gravity of that promise resonated to Hotaru which led her to wonder if something big happened between her friends. She never saw Natsume taking responsibility of a person who had no official business with him. She thought that Mikan was the one affected by Natsume but she also saw that Natsume caught the same effect from Mikan. Somehow, Hotaru's fear for the possible future problems that Mikan would have to faced once she pursued her feelings eased because if Hotaru's theory was correct, Natsume's feelings for Mikan went beyond friendship. This was a good thing but if it failed, a very bad thing for Mikan.

"Mikan goes overboard sometimes." Hotaru joined in the conversation but only to fish some reaction from Natsume.

"You mean all the time?" Natsume argued.

Rui almost giggled but stopped himself. "She means well. I don't know why you still failed to see that."

Natsume shrugged his shoulders. "Because I'm full of pride and a big asshole."

Rui laughed, tapping Natsume on the shoulder. "Good thing you know."

The settlement finished and it had been a success. Hotaru and Natsume took a little peek of a resting Kaname in a hospital gown, mask, and fluids infusing in his veins. Rui took the responsibility of telling the plan to the rest of the club especially to Kaname. The duo then went ahead to the elevator without an exchange of words until Hotaru asked.

"Do you like Mikan?"

Natsume doubted at first if he heard it correctly but Hotaru's face demanded for his answer. "What made you ask?"

Kaname's floor was just in the fourth making the elevator ride short. Hotaru exited the compartment first. "Just so you know that I'm watching. Always. And when you hurt my best friend, you'll have to answer to me, too."

Natsume watched Hotaru advanced in her steps and took a moment before he followed. He wanted to laugh at himself upon hearing Hotaru's statement because just yesterday, he hurt Mikan and it hurt him also like it was a combo package. He had Ruka asking him the same question before and now it was Hotaru's time which made Natsume wondered if the couple talked about him and Mikan which was not impossible but that also meant that the people around them had noticed something that Natsume and Mikan themselves had yet to realized. Natsume matched Hotaru's pace and saw the rest of the council waiting at the tables outside the café, all waiting for their news.

"Natsume! Over here." Koko yelled, waving his hands, and pointing at the two empty seats. "How did it go with Rui and Kaname?"

"It's all settled," Hotaru replied, "We will do what we planned."

Sumire clutched a hand on her chest. "That's so relieving."

"We must talk to Luna now." Ruka interrupted, his tone hinting that they had to close the deal today.

"Is she capable of helping without gaining anything?" Yura asked, skeptical if talking would be that easy.

Everybody looked at Natsume who had yet to say a word. Natsume raised an eyebrow. "No, but we must use our chances. I'll set up a meeting with Luna and Kaoru."

The meeting would finally end this issue and the council had no plans of backing down or losing this mini battle. Ruka smiled at Natsume, knowing that if there was one person who could be having internal conflicts now it would be the son of Kaoru Hyuuga himself but the good thing that he was on their side, the right side. Ruka assumed that this willingness of Natsume to deal with his mother and ex-girlfriend was probably from his desire to make amends with Mikan. In just a short amount of time, Mikan managed to affect Natsume in a high level and Ruka only waited for his best friend to admit it to him.

"Are we meeting Kaoru Hyuuga herself? Woah. I only see her on magazines and the business section of the newspaper." Yura fanned herself using her hands although it was not that hot, catching her breath because she really did feel nervous.

Natsume could only smirked. "Well, congratulations. You're meeting my mother for the first time."

Yuu found it hard to track his friends these days and that included Mikan whom he saw during classes or when she bought food from the cafeteria and then gone again. He knew that council officers were busy mending the mess they made but Yuu failed to see why Mikan was barely in the hallways or putting her nose on the said mess of the Student Council. Mikan had not said anything but one look and Yuu knew that something bothered her. As soon as the bell rang, Mikan quietly walked towards the cafeteria without even inviting Yuu which was, quite frankly, upset him a little bit but still he followed her. Yuu saw her getting a salad and with only at least six people away from the line, Yuu got the same because he did not want to overthink what to eat for lunch. Mikan seated on the farthest corner of the room after getting the service water and utensils from the other side.

Mikan looked down, isolated, bummed. Her low spirits was fairly obvious to people close to her like Yuu but Mikan managed to smile to acquaintances she met on the way. Yuu shook his head as he held tightly his heavy tray with salad, dessert, and two bottled water. He approached Mikan who did not seem to notice his presence because she was too busy killing the greens with her fork. Yuu faked a cough which made Mikan looked up, her face blank, far from her common animated expressions.

"Can I join you for lunch?"

Mikan gestured her hand on the empty seat parallel to hers. "Do you even have to ask?"

"Thanks."

Yuu planned to half-finished his food before he opened the topic because his ulterior motive would be too obvious once he asked questions. Being too conscious on how many times he chewed his greenvegetbales or how many bites he had already taken took a toll on him and after consuming all his water, he sat aside his food and rested his arms on the table. Mikan was oblivious on all of these.

"Actually, I'm here to ask you something."

Mikan nodded, playing with her food more which worried Yuu a little. "Sure, what is it?"

"I'm afraid I am kept in the dark here," Yuu began, "But I think something is not right with you. I asked Anna a little about what's happening on school and she told me about the Photography Club which could be related to this new girl who I think I've seen somewhere already."

"Yeah, she's Luna Koizumi, you know, Natsume's ex?" Mikan snarled.

Yuu refreshed his memory and finally recognized the girl. Yeah, he knew her from stories and rumors. Natsume was popular enough for everyone associated with him would be on the news the next day and his relationship with her was always an open secret. "Why is she here?"

"For her research but I also think to get back to that jerk."

The venom in Mikan's voice was easily noticeable. Yuu started to have an idea on what Mikan must be feeling right now and it actually pointed to what Sumire implied just the other day.

"Is she really related with the events with the club?" Yuu asked for confirmation.

This time Mikan's face turned sour, her posture straightened as her fists closed. "They're closing the club to fund her project which I think is unfair. They're retaliating and the council, in my opinion, doesn't want to help them. Kaoru Hyuuga, Natsume's mother, is the one responsible for transferring the funds, by the way."

"Is that why you're such in a sad mood?"

Mikan's eyes squinted, lips thinned, and crossed her arms. "What do you mean?" she asked in a defensive manner.

"Did you fight with Natsume again?" Yuu asked in an accusing tone, also crossing his arms with determined eyes.

Mikan conceded on the abrupt eye to eye contact challenge she shared with Yuu, raised her arms in midair, and frowned. "How can you tell?"

Yuu only raised his eyebrows on Mikan's incredulous look. "Because you talk about him in such a crude manner."

Mikan scoffed. Only in this way she could burst her upset and disappointed emotions aimed to Natsume. Their fight made her head ache and her soul decapitated while he might be chilling somewhere. Mikan wanted to react in a fit but took a deep breath and settled for calmness before giving a quick summary with her fight with Natsume. "He deserves it. For giving me an angry fit on why I asked Dad to help the Photography Club. I mean what is wrong with him? I just wanted to help because Captain Himura asked me to at first but now it's personal. He attacked me personally."

"Natsume is not that fond of his mother anymore but she is still his mother so you cannot take it away from him to defend her," Yuu tried to reason out.

"Even if what she did is terrible?" Mikan countered.

"Yes. I think it's also everyone's decision to carry on with the dismissal. It couldn't be just Natsume."

Mikan knew that very well and she knew that it was wrong to take it all on him. "I know but he has the power to stop it."

There were a few occasions when Yuu reprimanded Mikan for her reaction on certain things especially when he thought that she was wrong. Real friends told the truth no matter how much it hurt or offended the other party but of course, real friends side with you despite the odds. Yuu examined the situation, hoping to hear more of the council's side but politics in Alice Academy could be dirty.

"I don't think the Student Council works that way, Mikan. They always do things together and the decisions they made, they made it as one. I think Natsume was just the more affected individual here. The people involved are close to him and if initially they thought of their decision was right, then he would probably think it's right."

Mikan felt like the truth smacked her bountiful times. "But, they're wrong."

Yuu did not take away that credit, his tone of voice became more convincing and confident. "And you showed it to them, together with the club itself. It is actually getting more support as the days shorten. I think the council is very much aware of that. Come on, Mikan, I don't mean to be rude but we're not student council. We are just students concerned about the welfare of our schoolmates. What I'm trying to say is that we can only do so much and what you did is more than enough."

It was what Natsume tried to tell Mikan but his delivery was harsher that it made Mikan fume. She scooped in her seat. "I know I'm wrong, too."

Yuu watched his friend sulk on her seat so he thought of mentioning one of Mikan's good qualities. "You're always great at that, Mikan. You are aware of yourself. You accept it when someone scolds you and you defend what you think is right."

Mikan only nodded in repetition, wanting to smack herself, and with her emotions mixing in the conversation, she admitted, "I just thought that he could be more supportive."

This time Yuu smiled upon seeing the childish expression Mikan had. She began eating her salad with big pout and somber eyes and this somehow made Yuu realized how much Mikan cared for Natsume which was unimaginable a few months ago. They bantered, hated each other, gave silent treatments, avoided the other party and Yuu saw all that so it was so unfamiliar for him to hear that Mikan only wanted Natsume's support because she would not asked for it before. Yuu offered tissues to his friend and hushed her in a low tone.

"I really like Natsume for you," Yuu blurted.

Mikan choked from her food. "W-what?"

Yuu smiled. "I think Sumire's right. That you like him."

Mikan's face turned aggressive. "Yuu, are we having this girl talk again? Let me remind you that being with Anna doesn't make you an expert."

Yuu blushed with the mention of Anna. They were having such a lowkey relationship that was why whenever it was told on public, it made Yuu feel exposed. "No, but I know you. You're happier these days, I'm glad."

Mikan pouted. "Well, maybe so."

"And you didn't even bother to deny it now," Yuu chided.

Honestly, Yuu did not really see Mikan being with Ruka. They could be a nice pair, both were kind-hearted and understanding but in a way, Mikan needed someone different, someone who outright told her that she was wrong, whom she had silly fights and meaningful fights with, a guy that brought the best in her worst and also the most caring one in the world. Mikan did not admit it fully but Yuu knew she agreed on his assumption. Years ago, a low-spirited Mikan was a red flag, a source of worry of everyone, so the way she handled situations involving her was considered a big change. Little things did not put Mikan into a depressed state anymore and she chose her fights with care, all signs of betterment from her condition.

"But. . . "

Yuu pursed his lips on Mikan's doubtful look. "But what?"

"I cannot lose the friendship."

The look on Mikan's face did indeed signify that she was scared of the possibility. Yuu understood it for someone who lost so much growing up and also when he was still deciding to pursue Anna, the dilemma arose because once you told someone you liked them and they happened not to feel the same way, then the friendship was doomed. There was no salvation for it but that only occurred on immature friendships. If both parties went back to the reason why they became friends in the first place, many people were saved from the heartaches.

"Is that what you're so afraid of?"

Mikan pressed her lips as her thoughts drifted on the probability. She closed her eyes for a while, trying to erase the scene that entered her mind. "It mortifies me, Yuu. I can live with this, with us staying like this as long as we have the friendship."

Yuu was kind of disappointed at Mikan's treatment of the situation. At first, he did not know what to reply until he settled for what he thought was the right thing to do. "That's so. . . admirable of you, Mikan, but can you really do that? Can you really not express what you feel? What about his feelings? What if he feels the same?"

"And if he doesn't?" Mikan retorted, hating the way she felt so negative about it.

Clicking his tongue, Yuu snapped his fingers in front of Mikan's eyes then made a wave as if he asked for Mikan to wake up and be more logical. "I'm sure your friendship with Natsume is more special than you thought, Mikan. You should feel that by now."

Luna checked the neatness of her outfit and hairstyle as she passed by the mirror doors of club offices on her way to the Student Council Office. Imagine her shock when Natsume contacted her, asking if they, together with the council, could talk to her about the research project and its relation with the Photography Club. Luna heard the name of the club popped out these past few days and she had a slight idea on what the issue was but she had no idea on her involvement with it. If Natsume asked for her presence personally, it must have been important and this was what ran through her mind as she walked to meet them. Luna hoped that this would ignite Natsume's open-mindedness on talking to her, for her to say her piece and for him to listen. There were many unsaid things between them and Luna was asking for a moment to be with Natsume privately but with all the people surrounding him and then there was Mikan Sakura, the opportunity barely came by. This time it was different. Natsume made the first move on their communication so it was a big leap and this was the opportunity she waited for just to talk to him.

There was something oddly nerve-wracking when entering the council's office. Sure it was painted in white, big space, wooden chairs and tables, minimalistic paintings hanged, and many photos displayed on the wall, wide windows. It was modern and homey at the same time but Luna figured that no matter how familiar a place looked, if the people inside it did not like you, it would still give you the hibbie jibbies. Luna knocked thrice before turning the knob. She entered here multiple times before with an expression as if she was all too comfortable and familiar with it but seeing the council officers on their designated chairs, complete, with serious faces, Luna did not take away the fact that they were too serious for a bunch of high schoolers. She gave a meek smile and allowed herself on the empty chair beside Yura which she assumed was hers. Her eyes spotted Natsume immediately.

"Oh, am I late?" That was the common question when everybody was present and you just came in.

Sumire rested her elbows on the table, her hands clasped together under her chin. "You're just in time, Koizumi-san."

"Hi, Natsume." Luna only said it to calm her nerves and to confirm if she really was welcomed here. When she received no reply, her eyes hardened, not allowing herself to feel inferior on the aura they exuded.

Ruka was the first one who delivered the message. "Let's get straight to the point. We don't have much time here– "

"Why am I called here?" Luna asked, adjusting herself to the seat, making it comfortable.

Koko pretended to be in class and raised a hand. "We need you help to persuaded Kaoru Hyuuga to return the funds for your research back to its real owners, the Photography Club."

"What do you mean?"

Natsume stood up and sat on the chair near Luna. If he wanted her cooperation, he had to set aside his feelings temporarily. It did not matter if he disliked her presence or if he did not trust her, the matters on hand were more important than his personal problems of the past. "Kaoru is sponsoring your study using others' fund and in result the board wants to dismiss them. They need their club back."

Luna wanted to shake her head to deny the accusation but she knew Natsume would not lie on things like that. "I. . . didn't know that," Luna managed to reply.

The point that Luna did not know favored the situation. "Now, you know. Can you help us? Are you willing to help us?" Natsume added.

The details processed on Luna's mind. Her research was well-sponsored but she only knew the major ones and did not ask them where they got the money because they were reputable institutions in the first place. She studied the facial expressions of everyone in the room especially Natsume's who had his unreadable emotion plastered on. His eyes waited for her reply or reaction while his fingers relayed nervousness. That was silly, Luna's lips turned up in the corner but only a little, afraid that she would be misinterpreted as not taking the request seriously. Natsume was acting so responsible and it amazed her because this was such a development. When they were little, Natsume preferred to be alone, just doing what he felt like doing, only talked with sensible people and hated unnecessary noise and as Luna looked at him now, she almost could not recognized him. Natsume was still him, physically, he was gorgeous, tall, had the most stylish and cleanest raven hair, he was superior to look at like you were afraid to talk or approach him but something changed, definitely from the inside.

Knowing that he was the vice president of the council made Luna's eyes widened because Natsume was not popular for interacting with many individuals but she guessed it was mostly Ruka's influence and Natsume's own way of protecting that things which became dear to him over the years. Luna crossed her arms, this time her face was challenging, showing that things would not be that easy. "How would I know you are telling the truth? Let's face it, you guys are not the most welcoming committee." Luna's complaint did not shock anyone of them which caused her to relaxed her stance.

Sumire rolled her eyes on the right before turning her head to the left to speak to Luna. She intended to be sincere but she could not trust Luna completely because she saw the new girl a threat. "We're well aware. We apologize for that. But, let's focus on the common good for now. You have connections that can fund your study without using the academy's money."

Luna smirked. "But, they're my sponsor."

"We already let you use our facility for free," Yura stated the fact.

"I know you have enough, Luna. Enough support from the government and private individuals. Letting go one isn't going to affect your project," Natsume supplied in.

Luna's face showed no signs of cooperation and instead featured snobbishness. "Now that you need me, you're talking to me? That's rich."

Natsume understood her point. They were really planning to ask for her help and make her agree out of guilt but this was Luna, no underestimating a smart girl like her. "Look, we came to you hoping for a peaceful resolution. You can persuade my mother without a doubt. If you don't want to do it, we're gonna talk to her either way."

After a few seconds of staring blankly, Luna answered. "Fine."

Ruka was stunned which made him ask, "Are you really agreeing?"

Luna nodded and faced Natsume again. "I'll cooperate but only if you would let me talk to you."

No one said a word but Sumire wanted to protest the offer because she thought of Mikan. Things could change drastically with just one simple talk. Natsume studied his options, possible consequences, advantages and disadvantages before answering. He knew better than to be swayed by her words because Luna was still under the spell of his mother and her own ambition.

"Only if you promise to be sincere about it." Natsume agreed while Sumire grasped Koko's collar in the background as a way of showing silent objection.

Luna smiled, satisfied of herself and felt like she won points for that. "I always am."

Hotaru shook her head and looked down while rubbing her forehead. "This is beginning to be a bad idea," she mumbled.

"Natsume can handle her for sure," Ruka replied in a low voice.

Hotaru wanted to trust his word and Natsume's firmness. "Let's go?" Hotaru asked everyone and what she meant by that it was time to meet Kaoru Hyuuga already.

When it was stated that they were meeting Kaoru Hyuuga, they already thought of a tall building with her on the highest floor with carpeted floors until the office, hallway surrounded with plants and random paintings which Kaoru chose herself. They were escorted on the waiting area filled with couches, magazines, and a table supplied with brewed coffee and tea and cookies. Ruka and Natsume talked in the corner to strategize their plan while Yura clutched on her skirt, distracted every time the automatic doors opened and closed. Luna had her arms and legs crossed, also waited like everybody else. She already informed Kaoru that they were waiting outside but the visitor prior them had to be attended in a careful manner. Hotaru was suddenly curious of Mikan's whereabouts and sent a text to her and received a reply that she was going to the hospital.

"Nervous?" Sumire asked aloud to Yura.

Yura was not used to meeting such high profile people and the way the walls were painted in the office made her feel trapped, like she had no right to act not classy. "I'm meeting Kaoru Hyuuga. Of course, I'm nervous!"

"Don't be intimidated by her," Natsume reminded.

Yura took a breath. "Well, remind me that again later."

A tall man clad in suit opened the second door toward the real office of Kaoru Hyuuga. He had the typical look of a secretary, all formal with eyeglasses on. Everyone stood up upon his entrance while he bowed at their presence. "Welcome, Mr. Hyuuga." He addressed Natsume with such respect, not even daring to look him in the eyes until Natsume signaled him to be at ease.

"Is she in?" Natsume asked.

The secretary smiled and gestured at the door. "Waiting for you at the board room."

"Who's gonna talk first?" Ruka asked as he realized how large of a group they were.

Natsume smirked. "Leave that to me."

Their walks made no sound even upon reaching the said board room because of how thick the carpets were. Natsume was familiar of the place and need not directions but they were still led by the secretary. Another large wooden door was opened and revealed Kaoru Hyuuga on the middle of the long table used for meetings, discussions, deals, scolding. Kaoru was finishing up a paper when she noticed the presence of another group. Natsume thought that she was different when she was at home compared in the office, here she was more cunning, strict, always on her guard.

"Kaoru, we're here."

Kaoru grinned. "Just in time, Natsume. When Luna told me you are coming here, I thought it's only you two. I was surprised that the whole of Alice Academy's Student Council will be here."

Kaoru Hyuuga was in a pencil cut skirt and plain white blouse clad with a coat, the typical outfit of an office woman. Her aura was what the rumours said, classy, ethereal, demeaning which could bother simple people but definitely not her son or teenagers who was acquainted with her. Her face was a common feature on the business section of various newspapers, always posing on a professional stance without even a small smile, like she was always out to buy your company or the land your house rooted into to make it the next big hotel or store. She had the same hair color of Natsume but her eyes were not red like his while her face did not really show her age because if anything, she looked younger than most of the parents of the council officers.

Ruka stepped forward, hoping his voice reached his aunt because of how large the room was. "We're here to talk about Luna's project and the Photography Club, Aunt Kaoru."

"Please take your seats," Kaoru offered and everyone did so. She gave the papers to the secretary and asked him not to disturb their meeting. "What about it?" Kaoru asked with a friendly smile.

Natsume was about to say their purpose of coming but Luna beat him into it. "Kaoru, it has come to my attention that a club had to be dismissed just to fund my study. I agree with the Student Council that it should not be like that."

"What do you want me to do?"

Natsume hated the hint of no regret, like she had no idea who were affected by what she had done. "Return it. We'll get the club back. Find another way to fund her study."

Kaoru laughed. "You make it sound easy."

"Oh, I know it is. Especially for you." Natsume sneered at every word.

Kaoru hated the proud expression on his son's face. Sometimes, she hated it how Natsume was a genius at his age. "You agreed to this Luna?"

"Yes."

Kaoru swiveled her chair, staring at the metropolis view courtesy if the glass windows. "Is the club that important for all of you to come here? Face the truth, it's a dying club. I rather put the money to better use."

"Kaname Sono," Ruka blurted.

Another unfamiliar name which annoyed Kaoru. "Who is he?"

Ruka's voice became louder. "Their club leader. He has cancer. They need money for his treatment and they think that winning a competition happening this year can help a lot."

"There are other ways to obtain money."

Koko stood from his seat. He had met Kaoru Hyuuga multiple times since childhood because they were part of that circle but their conversation topic only included school, his parents, and his plans for the future. "But, they rather do it using their own strength. Isn't that what Alice Academy is training students for?" Koko wailed.

"I'm very well-aware, Koko."

Each one of their comebacks were blocked by Kaoru and the fight started to be one-sided until Natsume talked. "Kaoru. We can tell the truth to the students. Imagine how that would affect the board, yours, and Luna's reputations."

Kaoru turned again to face his son, her eyebrows raised and expression exhibited fascination. "As if they care. You also have your reputation to worry about rather than mine."

Natsume only glared because he knew that her mother enjoyed this little competition between them and unless they extracted something from each other, their banters would not stop. "They do. Half of the school signed in their petition to maintain their club status. And the Student Council can handle problems like this, we always do and we always get back up."

A staring contest ensued between the Hyuugas and with this Kaoru knew that with every reason she would put out, Natsume would keep on pressing what he wanted to happen. He never listened at home and he never listened outside of it which was a constant source of headache for her but in the game of manipulation, Kaoru always came full-handed. She scanned the room and recognized that the officers were sons and daughters of good allies of their family and they also had Luna agreeing which was the reason Kaoru was convinced. A bargain happened, Kaoru was sure of it, or else Luna would not push this.

"Alright. You win this time."

Everyone gave a sigh of relief especially Ruka who held his breath the entire time. "Thank you, Aunt Kaoru."

Kaoru acknowledged the appreciation but her son was still unconvinced. "Don't think I won't ask for something in return with this, Natsume."

"Call them now," Natsume commanded. The tension that dissipated went back in a whim through Natsume's challenging tone of voice.

"I can do it later."

Natsume walked toward his mother, grabbed her phone and put it in her hand. "No. Do it now. In front of all of us."

Kaoru hated it when she felt cornered because no one dared to do so except for her own son and her ex-husband. It fumed her on the inside that Natsume got that side of Ioran. "Don't you trust your own mother, Natsume?"

Natsume did not move a bit. "Just do it."

Kaoru closed her fist and made the call, her eyes scolding the acts of her son. The whole conversation was witnessed by everyone so no backing out on words. Hotaru looked forward on making everything official. After the meeting, they all left the board room with victory on their hearts. Luna was silent, though. She wondered what motivated Natsume to dare his own mother like that. Well, they always had a broken relationship since the divorce but Natsume was mostly words, not actions.

"That went surprisingly well. Wooh! The tension in there!" Yura quipped the moment they left the office.

"We just have to make a formal letter addressed to the principal and the board." Hotaru told Ruka who gave a cheerful affirmation.

The others went ahead while Natsume intentionally walked slower and the opportunity was taken by Luna, blocking his way. "You care so much for this council. I wonder what was so amazing about it."

Natsume shrugged his shoulders, not interested in her small talk. "I have to make it up to them especially to her."

"Her?" Luna had a vile guess on who he referred to.

Koko called out when the elevator doors opened. "Natsume, let's go back to school."

"On my way." Natsume excused himself and walked ahead while Luna stayed at the office, seeing no purpose of joining them in that lift.

Mikan stood in front of the white door of Kaname's room. She was afraid to go and say the worst possible words that could have been said to a sick person. Mikan was surprised by her thoughts. Kaname was not less of a person because of his sickness. He still had everything he owned before the diagnosis, if not much he gained so much more. A total of three visitors per day was the maximum and Mikan was lucky enough gaining a spot. Rui contacted her just this afternoon, asking if she wanted to see Kaname and talked to him. After all, Mikan was the one who brought him in the hospital. After Mikan replied to Hotaru's text, she did not receive another text which caused her to think if her whereabouts was really a concern of Hotaru at the moment. Mikan fudged, her trail of thoughts wandered to random places again.

She slowly opened the door and seek for the presence of Kaname who was sitting on his bed. Mikan entered the room with a surgical mask on her face, not carrying anything. She was told that raw food and fresh flowers were not allowed so she did not bother getting anything. Kaname waved at her, looking healthier than the last time they saw each other but he was pale, thinner, his hair in a brittle state. Mikan managed to smile under her mask knowing that at least her eyes showed her gladness. She sat a few meters away from Kaname. He still had an infusion on and he looked like he just finished eating.

"Nice to finally see you."

Kaname made an apologetic smile. "Ah, Mikan. Sorry about that day. You must have been petrified."

Without a doubt, seeing Kaname on that state scared her. That emergency taught her that staying calm helped more in making sound decisions rather than wailing your way in of the hospital. "I was. Good thing you're able to accept visitors now."

"Still limited. My white blood cells are normal for now. Rui told me that you came so many times. I feel bad not seeing you and not explaining anything."

Mikan looked down, a bit on the left to avoid Kaname's gaze. "Rui. . . he told me about your sickness."

"It's okay. Everybody will know one way or another. About the club, thank you for your help. I'm still hoping to pull one last shot but my body is not enabling me to."

Humans were silly to think that as long as their mind could, their body could survive also. They sometimes took their health for granted and only regretted not taking care of it in the last minute. Mikan had no heart to scold Kaname though because if you had a sickness that might end tragically for you then would you really care about treating yourself or making every moment worth living for? Mikan would have chosen the latter. But, Rui said Kaname's type of carcinoma had good prognosis. Their hope relied on statistics, studies, facts which were comforting to hear but there was always a chance of it coming back in a different form and that was what scared them.

"We can help in your treatment, Kaname. I'm sure there are other ways."

Kaname nodded in acknowledgement. He heard this many times before: from his parents, friends, from his own self. "There are many ways. But, don't you find it silly? I want photography to be the way," Kaname narrated, his voice choking, "I love sharing it, teaching all that I know, I love taking pictures. It's so fulfilling, Mikan. I guess that's something that I've been fighting for all along."

"You're a warrior," Mikan blurted.

Kaname's eyes widened. He was speechless for a while but when Mikan did not take back what she said, he smiled. "Am I?" He was asking more of himself than Mikan.

Mikan made it a mission to make him believe that he really was a warrior in her eyes. She loved that he showed strength in times of weakness, that his passion for things prevailed than his own personal motive. Mikan thought that human who lived such life was rare. If she had a sickness, she might be trapped in bed busy being depressed but none of that happened to Kaname because he chose to fight. "So strong and yet so vulnerable," Mikan added.

Kaname laughed. "I am taking that as a compliment."

They both giggled at the words they said. If the situation was a bit different, Mikan could have been very good friends with Kaname. She liked people with eccentric passion, unfathomable kindness, maturity. These qualities reminded her of Narumi and her own mother. Mikan took one last look at Kaname, confident that he could survived this and considered him lucky for having such good support system. Mikan expressed her desire to see him at school again which made Kaname shed a tear. He also looked forward finishing his last year in high school, where three years of his life he cherished the most.

Mikan stood up and returned back the chair to where she got it. "Ten minutes are up. Thank you for talking to me."

"Thank you, Mikan. It's very nice to meet you. Rui told me that Hyuuga and the others came here today."

Mikan's expression shifted. "What for?" she asked with a stern pitch.

Actually, Rui did not tell in detail but Kaname said what Rui told him. "The tables have turned. At least that's what Rui told me."
