Arriving at the Weasley household, Dumbledore smiled at the familiar sight before him. A towering house with hazardous overlapping rooms that could only be held up by magic. Multiple chimneys emitted smoke and garden gnomes ran across the ground as hens clucked within their coup.
As he approached the door, he was met with a pile of old brooms as well as a line of wellies belonging to various Weasley's. Raising his hand, Dumbledore repeated the knock that he had done at the Grangers mere hours ago and waited for the familiar bustling sound of Molly Weasley approaching the door.
When the door opened, Molly took one look at his slightly amused face before her face reddened into anger and her hands went to her hips.
"Albus what have they done now, I only dropped them off yesterday, surely they haven't managed to destroy the school in such a short time." She asked in an expressed tone.
"Molly might I come in and explain everything to you and Arthur. I can assure you that the twins haven't destroyed the school, but Fred is in a bit of a predicament." Dumbledore said with a slight chuckle.
"I O-of course, come in, would you like your usual peppermint tea?" She asked, stepping aside, and allowing him into the kitchen as she rushed over to put the kettle on the stove.
"Please Molly," he answered while taking a seat at the table where Arthur, Bill, Charlie, and Percy sat finishing their evening meal.
"Albus, what's going on?" Asked Mr Weasley who was sat at the head of the table as Molly handed Dumbledore his tea and retook her seat.
"I'm sorry to interrupt your meal, but this morning something happened between Fred and Ron's friend Hermione. Unfortunately, this problem doesn't have a quick fix and will last for some months." Dumbledore began only to be interrupted by Molly's horrified gasp.
"He's got her pregnant; I'm going to skin him alive and chop off his testicles. The poor girl is just a child, and she had her entire life ahead of her. What will happen to her now? Ron will be heartbroken."
"Molly she's not pregnant," Dumbledore said as soon as he could get a word in edgeways.
"Oh, what's the matter then?" She asked somewhat embarrassed by her quick judgements.
"Fred and George stayed up throughout the night brewing an ageing potion to get past the age line for the Triwizard Tournament. When they finished it, Fred exited the room they were using before his twin and crashed into Hermione who had slept in and was running late for class. Hermione had her potions kit on her, and the ingredients mixed with the twin's potion creating a potion that has changed both Fred and Hermione into their five-year-old selves including their memories up to that point in time."
"My poor babies!" Molly moaned.
"Sir if you don't mind me saying the ingredients for Hermione's year wouldn't have that effect on a normal ageing potion." Bill began.
"Your right William had Hermione had just the normal ingredients this would not have happened, but Hermione had quite a few unusual ingredients that she shouldn't have had. The purpose of which we do not know, nor do I think we will discover until she is re-aged." Dumbledore said.
"What ingredients did she have Professor and what effect did each have with the others?" Percy asked ever keen for knowledge.
"I'll tell you what Madam Pomfrey told me, but it's speculation until Professor Snape can confirm it with his tests." The others nodded.
"Madam Pomfrey analysed a sample of the created potion as well as a sample of each of their blood. She determined that the ageing Potion that the Twins made has mixed with the ingredients in Miss Granger's potions kit. The standard ingredients for her year group when mixed create a Memory Draft that is designed to restore the memories of those who have been obliviated." He told them.
"What did the non-standard ingredients do?" Charlie asked.
"The problem is that Miss Granger had the following ingredients that weren't on her school list in her potions kit; Dragons Blood, Unicorn Horn, Acromantula Venom and a Bezoar. Madam Pomfrey thinks that the ageing Potion and Memory Draft alone would have worked as intended or they may have gained the memories of themselves at the age they became but by adding into the mix the Unicorn Horn, you are purifying them." Dumbledore said.
"That makes sense, Unicorn Horne is one of the purest ingredients on the planet." Bill said.
"She thinks that the Unicorn Horn could react with the Ageing and Memory potions and reverse their effects to the point when they were purest in both mind and body." Dumbledore told them.
"Their 5-year-old selves." Molly questioned.
"Exactly," Dumbledore replied.
"What did the other ingredients do?" Asked Arthur.
"One of the 12 uses of Dragons Blood is that it strengthens any potions it has contact with so, in this case, it would increase the effects of the Unicorn Horn, overthrowing the original effects of the Memory and Ageing Potions." Dumbledore said.
"What about the Acromantula venom, that's dangerous, Hermione shouldn't have been able to get her hands on it?" Percy said.
"Madam Pomfrey doesn't think that the Acromantula Venom or the Bezoar affected the potion, but they were effective on their own anyway. The poison that is in the venom would have killed them, but Miss Granger's bezoar saved them by counteracting the effects of the poison." He told them gravely.
"They could have died." Molly whimpered.
"She ran a diagnostic on the two of them, and as far as she can see there is nothing wrong with them, they are perfectly healthy five-year-olds. They hold the memories of their five-year-old selves and anything beyond that is either gone or suppressed. She would have done more tests or even attempted to use antidotes, but she said that it is too risky with the current ingredients running through their bodies. A slight chemical imbalance could prove fatal especially at their current size, so before we do anything, we will have to wait for the potion to leave their system." Dumbledore told the Weasley's.
"Oh, my poor babies they could have died; I'm coming back to Hogwarts with you Albus. Fred needs me, and so does George. Have you told the Grangers? They should be there for Hermione; I'm sure she's so scared been exposed to our world so young." Molly spoke to Dumbledore.
"I'd be glad for you to stay for however long you wish. We are planning on keeping them at Hogwarts and say they are experiencing the school early to see what it's like as we are thinking to open it to younger students. Severus is working on the antidote now. I've come from the Grangers, and they've known about magic since Hermione was a few weeks old."
"How's that possible, magic doesn't present in children until they are about 5?"Charlie asked, speaking for the first time.
"I don't know, only time will tell, but by the sounds of it, Hermione is stronger and more powerful than any witch has been in many years. Her late grandad said she could transform into a cat and her parents believe this to be true. She managed to attack Pomfrey, George, Ron, and Harry in the hospital wing with the assistance of Fred. She might have a magical ancestry but for the time being it is our job to protect her. She's young, and she's vulnerable, I shudder to think what could happen if the wrong people got hold of this information." Dumbledore said in a grave voice.
"An Animagus, surely not," Charlie questioned.
"Only time will tell, but for now I must go collect the Grangers, you can floo over when you're ready." Dumbledore said rising from his seat and heading to the door, leaving the Weasley's in shocked silence.
