Chapter 40

I've been staying at Dr. Robert's house for a few days now. I speak to Jacob regularly but I can tell he still has that attitude about me staying with Dr. Roberts. He should be happy in case things go left at Bella's house with Victoria. They won't have to visit my house and the angels and I won't have to straight destroy them. Speaking of Angels, I haven't heard anything from them since they came and left.

Taking that evil Lacie with her. It made me think that maybe it was Sarah's wolf going crazy. Her father has an attitude problem along with his friends. So, my powers gave her an extra boost. The winter break is around the corner. It's getting pretty cold in this town. I guess because we're by the mountains. The house has been warm but I know Dr. Roberts like to keep it extra hot for me.

Even though I started by wearing my gloves, I can't do much about my hands. They're forever stay cold. I know Dr. Roberts notices me wearing them all of the time. Mr. Howard comes here and there and we just talk and that's it. I know Dr. Roberts feel some way about our relationship. It's nothing more or less to it. Just teacher and student. The only thing is he helped me out in my time of needs.

I cross my arms while Dr. Roberts is cooking in the kitchen. I told him that I can cook for him but I guess he's a chef in his own world and house. "How you feeling, Lacie?" He asks me. "I'm feeling good. I haven't had no discomfort. I experienced itching down there." I joke out. "Glad to hear that." He say making me chuckle. I nod my head looking at him. "Something you wanna ask me?"

"Yeah, you like Nurse Miller?" I ask him. "I like her as a friend, Lacie." "It's just that you was kind of down when I accused her of being a serial killer and said she might have feelings for Mr. Howard." "I didn't hear the feelings for Mr. Howard." "Oh, I didn't say that." I say shaking my head. "No, you did not." He say looking in my face. That tone tells me that you do, Dr. Roberts.

I go back to watching TV. "I didn't mean to use that tone with you, Lacie." "It's okay, Dr. Roberts. I'm use to it hearing it from Jacob. I just struck a nerve. She's in jail, ain't she?" "No, she's not. She's not a killer, Mia." I just shrug my shoulders. "I know her, Mia. She would not mess her life up going around killing people for no reason." "High school girls was killed, Dr. Roberts." I say getting up from the couch and walking into the kitchen.

"And, I'm sorry they lost their lives but she's not a killer. You're just getting paranoid." He say cutting up a big sized onion. "What are you making?" I ask walking to the stove and looking at the soup boiling. "Beef soup. It's the winter time and it's very cold outside. I thought maybe you'll want something warm for you and Sarah." He say making me smile hard.

I turn back around to see him still cutting the onion. "That's very thoughtful, Dr. Roberts. You already gave me your home." I say giving him a back hug. I can feel him smiling hard. "You're welcome, Lacie." He say while I sniff in his body wash. Oh, that smells good. I rub on his stomach feeling to see if he has abs like Jacob. He doesn't. "Okay, Lacie." He say. I unwrap my arms from around him to see Mr. Howard standing by the front door with a grocery bag.

He's staring at hard at me. He closes the door. "What you got in the bag, Mr. Howard?" I ask walking out of the kitchen and towards him. "A cake, Ms. Thorne." He say walking past me and leaving me by the front door. Okay, what just happened? I turn back around to see him taking off his coat and Dr. Roberts looks from me to him. "Is there a problem, James?" He asks. "It's no problem, Dr. Roberts." Mr. Howard say grabbing the grocery bag off the couch and taking it into the kitchen.

"It's some problem. You straight ignored me, Mr. Howard." I say walking back into the kitchen. He take the cake out of the bag. "What kind is that?" I ask rubbing on my stomach. I know Sarah would love strawberry cake. "It's a strawberry cake." He answers making me smile hard. "Sarah loves it." I say to Dr. Roberts. "I bet she does, Lacie." He say still cutting the onions.

He opens the fridge and put the cake in. "So, beef soup and a strawberry cake. Are you staying for dinner, Mr. Howard?" I ask him. It will be the first time that he ate with me at Dr. Robert's house. "I'm staying for dinner, Ms. Thorne." He say to me. I grin hard while rubbing on my stomach. He turns back in the fridge. I turn around to Dr. Roberts and lean on the kitchen counter. "Yes, Lacie." He say.

"Do you need help?" I ask him. "No, I'm okay. Dinner will be almost be ready. Why don't you finish watching TV?" "I'm going to go call Jacob and see what he's doing." I say pointing to my bedroom. He nods and I leave out of the kitchen to go into my bedroom. I close the door and grab my cellphone out my pant's pocket to call Jacob. He answers on the second ring. "Hey, Lacie." He say.

"Hey, Jacob." I say sitting on my bed. "How you and Sarah?" "We're doing fine. We're having soup because it's terribly cold outside. How's the pack?" I ask him. "We're doing fine." "I bet you all are. Anything with Victoria?" "Nothing yet. We don't see nothing till maybe next year or something." I nod breathing out. "So, Sarah is not yours?" I ask him. "I just said that because I was mad, Lacie." "You kind of stabbed me in my heart after everything that has happened between us and that just nailed in everything. Why would you say that?"

"Because I was mad you was staying at another man's house." "But, we're not dating. We're not boyfriend or girlfriend." "It's whatever, Lacie. I miss my daughter." "And, I miss you too but you're not welcomed here and I don't see how it's any different seeing how you acted when I was around you. It was Bella all of the time then you came when it was only an emergency. So, I think you're doing well and good." I say taking off my gloves and cracking my knuckles.

"I still miss you, Lacie." "How, Jacob? You never took me back on the tribe. You banned me." "I did not ban you." "You the only one with the car and soon as Sam said that I was no longer welcomed to his house, it was a wrap. I don't care for your words, Jacob. It means nothing. I just called to see how you was doing." "I'm doing fine, Lacie." "That's fine, Jacob. I hope you don't treat me like Thanksgiving and actually show up or do something for me on Christmas. I gotta go." I say and hang up the phone.

I sigh putting my gloves back on and getting off the bed. I do a body streaches before going back out of the room. I walk into the dining room too see the plates already set on the table. They're still in the kitchen cooking. "How the talk go with Jacob?" Dr. Robert asks me as I sit at the kitchen counter. He moves the cutting board away from me. Oh, that's nice.

"It was okay." "It didn't sound okay when you was in the back arguing." "I was that loud?" I ask seeing Mr. Howard watching the cutting board. "You was pretty loud." He say as Dr. Roberts stir the soup. "Basically, don't miss me when you didn't before. It's just the fact that he can't visit me here and there as he like it. I just told him to be ready for Christmas and that was it." I say resting my head on the counter.

"Are you okay?" Mr. Howard asks turning to me. "I'm good. I'm just hungry and sad." "It's understandable." "I seen it coming. He's a sixteen year old boy." I say and can tell that they're smiling and laughing about it. "So, when he was fifteen and you was eighteen." Dr. Roberts say to me. "We had sex one time and I rocked his world." "And, got him for eighteen years." "Yep. That one time without a condom gave us baby Sarah and I thought it was love. He got on me because I'm not the love type person." I say looking at Dr. Roberts tasting the soup.

I directly at his mouth and laugh hard. He turns facing me smiling hard. "What's funny?" He asks. "Nothing. It's just the way that you tasted it. You're a pro at tasting things." I say grinning hard. "Thank you for the compliment. It's almost ready." He say and turn around glancing at Mr. Howard. He grins washing dishes. "It smells good too." "Do you wanna taste it?"

"No, I'm okay. I might want it all before it's time for dinner. I'm good." I say resting on my other arm. "Okay." He say turning back around. I check out their butts. They both looks perky. I look at Mr. Howard. "So, Nurse Miller-" "Let's not talk about her." "Right." I say getting up and sitting on the couch to finish watching TV. I look at the strawberry that's in the fridge while rubbing on my stomach.

"You want a piece of cake now?" Mr. Howard asks me. "I would like a small piece but I don't want to spoil my dinner." I say. He opens up the fridge. "Mr. Howard, I'm okay." I say to him. "You can have a piece, Ms. Thorne." He say and I get up off the couch. He ain't got to tell me twice. I speed walk into the kitchen while Dr. Roberts grab a knife. I look at the side of Mr. Howard's face as he opens the cake container.

"It's something on my face?" He asks me. "No, it's not." I say taking the knife from Dr. Roberts and looking at his butt when he turns around to go back to stirring the soup. Mr. Howard looks in my face while taking the knife from me and I peck his lips. Dr. Roberts turn around to face us as Mr. Howard cut the cake. "That piece." I say feeling my heart beat fast as Dr. Robert looks hard between us.

He looks at Mr. Howard. "What is going on between you two?" He asks him. "Nothing is going on between us." "You're not stealing kisses? Lacie, do I have to kick you out?" "No, you do not. It was nothing. I didn't do nothing." I say shaking my head as Mr. Howard put me a piece of cake on the plate. "You did not just kiss him?" Dr. Robert asks me. "No, I did not." I say taking a small piece of cake and eating it. Yummy. "You ate it with your gloves on, Ms. Thorne." Mr. Howard say while me and him ignore Dr. Roberts.

"Sorry." I say taking it off and eating another piece as Dr. Roberts looks at both of us. Mr. Howard put the container top back on the cake. "Don't do that again in my house." Dr. Roberts seriously say to both of us. "I didn't do nothing but I won't do it again." I say taking the plate and walking into the living room while I feel eyes on my back coming from Dr. Roberts. I hear them whispering in the kitchen. I sit on the couch eating my piece of cake. Oh, this is heaven.

After dinner, we're just sitting around watching TV. It's been quiet between us since dinner. We had a normal conversation dinner but that was it. We moved onto dessert then to watching TV. "I am so full." I say pulling up my shirt and squeezing my gut. Mr. Howard looks at my stomach hard. "Maybe, you shouldn't do that." I nod pulling my shirt down.

"The soup was delicious. I never had that before with onions and peppers." I say trailing off to Dr. Roberts. "It was just regular soup." "But, it was good." I say nodding my head watching the football game. Mr. Howard looks at Dr. Roberts. I hear my cellphone ringing in my pant's pocket but I don't bother answering it. It's nobody. "You're not going to answer your phone?" Dr. Roberts asks me.

"No." I say and it stop ringing. "I'm sure it's just Jacob to apologize or something." I say shrugging. "You don't think he's acting the way he is because he's about to be a a teenage father? You did get him at fifteen years old." Mr. Howard say. Ohh, Mr. Howard. I turn my attention to him. That's something new when he always been on my side. "What are you talking about, Mr. Howard?" "He has a right to feel the way that he did. I didn't know you had sex with him when he was fifteen years old, Mia." He say. Dr. Roberts looks at me.

"I didn't know that either. He looks to be about eighteen years old." "Eighteen and fifteen years old." "Where is this coming from?" I ask Mr. Howard. "Eighteen and fifteen years old." I calm down trying to stop my racing heart. "It was love between us and we didn't think that we could get pregnant without a condom." "It's always the first try, Lacie." "And, it is. It was a night that just happened." I say trying not to think about that night.

"Just want you to see his point of view, Ms. Thorne." He seriously say looking in my face. "And, what is that?" "That you got pregnant by him and he'll be a father at sixteen years old. He has a right feel the way that he feels of jealous and being angry. His life has changed." "And, what about mine?" I ask getting in my feelings. "Your life has changed too." "No, you made it seem I am hard on him. You don't see the ways of how he act towards me and I ask him to be here to support me. He has ways too, Mr. Howard."

"And, I'm sure he does. You're the eighteen year old." "And, things happened that's out of your control and we did not think that we'll have a child nor about protection." I say. "Okay, let's calm down." Dr. Roberts say looking at Mr. Howard. I breathe out looking back at the TV. I have a right to act my way too. I glance at Mr. Howard who's looking at the TV. Jacob nasty too when it comes to Bella and his attitude.

"I'll be back." Dr. Roberts say getting up and leaving out of the living room. I make sure he's gone before ramming into Mr. Howard. I turn back around to Mr. Howard staring in my face. "Seriously, Mr. Howard." I say sliding down next to him. "Yeah, Ms. Thorne." He say looking in my face. "You don't see how Jacob act." I say looking at his hands and seeing that he's still wearing his wedding. "I see how he is." Is all he say.

"Thanks for the strawberry cake. It's like you know what I am craving. I was going to buy a strawberry cake that day before my heart attack." I say. "I didn't know that." He say. I nod my head sitting back against the couch and wondering were Dr. Roberts at. I know he waiting and listening to set up a trap. Mr. Howard glances at me out of the corner of my eyes.

"You think I trapped Jacob?" I ask him. "I think as the older person who's about to graduate you had a choice and him as fifteen year old-I don't know who did who but I I think you could've picked the right choice." He say. "It was Jacob on me." "You was the adult, Ms. Thorne." "But, you don't know the situation that gave us Sarah." "I don't want to know. Eighteen year old on a fifteen year old boy." "He's legal by tribal laws, Mr. Howard." I say knowing he's trying to put me down.

"I just feel that he has a right to act the way that he does." "I feel he doesn't because he's treating me like crap." "You don't see his point of view?" "Everyday but he has an attitude problem. Don't let him fool you. Everybody is crazy in their own way." I say looking around wondering were Dr. Roberts is at. "He's in his bedroom." I'll have to visit his bedroom one day.

It get silent as Mr. Howard turn back to the TV. "You're a jealous man." I say playing with my gloves. "I am not jealous, Ms. Thorne. You and Jacob." He smartly say. "I just said jealous and I did not say Jacob." "You insinuated it. What am I jealous of you for when I have a wife?" He snarkly asks. "I do not know, Mr. Howard. It's just your words and actions tells different." "What actions?" He asks. "Just from what I seen. Nevermind." I say.

"Don't assume when you don't know what you're talking about or back it up." He say. I nod my head getting up from the catch. Back my fist into your face. "What you say?" He asks me. "I said nothing." I say turning around to face him. I haven't seen that look on his face before. "Back my fist into your face." He say making laugh on the inside. "It's what I said." "Why would you say that?" I hear Dr. Roberts asks walking up behind me. Mr. Howard just glare at me.

"Because I can. You don't talk to me in no tone." "You don't attack my friend and threaten him after he decided not to throw you in jail, Lacie." He say while I notice Mr. Howard. My cellphone rings to break the tension. "You're right. I'm so sorry." I say to him. "I'm not the one who you attacked, Lacie." I turn around to Mr. Howard. My phone rings again.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Howard. You could've thrown me in jail for so called attacking you." "I know you attacked me, Ms. Thorne." "No, I never attacked you." I say shaking my head. "Okay, Ms. Thorne." "Maybe you should leave." Dr. Roberts say. "Yeah, I should." I say walking past him to go to my bedroom and closes the door behind me. I take out my cellphone to call Jacob.

"Told you, Lacie." Jacob say tossing my suitcase on the bedroom floor. "Whatever, Jacob. You said that so many times while I was getting in the car and on the way here. He was jealous of me." "Whatever." He growls cutting the conversation short. "He has a wife." He say starting it back up. I sigh sitting at the kitchen table. I hear him walking down the stairs.

"You opened your mouth and had to bring it up." He say walking into the kitchen. "He was not going to disrespect me and use no tone with me." "But, you attacked him." I hear Embry say walking into the kitchen. Quil follow behind him. "No, I did not. I never put my hands on him." Quil shake his head. "Either way you're out of the house. Dr. Roberts was his best friend." Jacob say looking in my face.

"Well, your daughter's back in your face." "She was always in my face, Lacie. I love my daughter very much." "And, I know you do." I say back. Quil just shake his head. "Quil, you have something to say?" I ask him. "How you can be how you are?" "Meaning what?" "He offered you house knowing you did what you did to his best friend and you threw in his face." He say.

Embry and Jacob looks at me. Both giving me this look. "It just happened. We was talking. He used this tone with me and I used it back." "But, did you attack him?" Quil asks. "No, I did not." "I don't believe that." Embry say. I shrug grabbing an apple out of the fruit bowl. "Is that why he was always following you?" Jacob asks. "Maybe it was or it was not. I don't know." I say biting into the apple and spitting out the Styrofoam.

"What you say to him?" Embry asks. Jacob stare hard into my face. He's loving it. "I said he was a jealous man." "Of you?" "Yeah." I say turning to Embry. "But, he has a wife. What reason he has to be jealous of you?" "It's the point and actions that are taken for him to be jealous of me." "I know what I'm talking about. What reason he has to be jealous of you?" "I'm the best." I say.

It get silent in the living room. "Best at what?" Jacob asks me. "Best at everything that I do." "What do you do?" "I do things on the sneak. I look into people." "Still waiting on that killer to be caught." "You just wait and see what happens. He or she will be caught." I seriously say. "What you do?" Quil asks me. "She ain't do nothing." Jacob say to me. "I didn't do nothing because it's not my business but something is coming for her."

"Don't involve my daughter in it." "I ain't do nothing, Jacob." "I don't understand how you can look into Nurse Miller but can't the killer." Quil asks me. I lift my shirt up showing my bare stomach. "So, she might not be the killer?" He ask me. It get quiet in the house. "Nurse Miller is the killer." "What makes you think she's the killer?" He asks me. I pull my shirt down.

"You know how I looked into her background." "And, you said she lost a child." Jacob say. "After Mr. Howard's wife lost hers. His wife was in an accident at home." "Did you cause it?" "For what reason? I had better thing to do like Victoria and protecting Bella." "Does not mean anything, Lacie?" "Whatever, Jacob. You keep going back and forth with me." "Because you're trying to plead your case when you're in the wrong in so many levels."

"I'm never wrong." "You was wrong." Embry say. "How Embry?" I ask him. Quil shake his head in disbelief. "Dr. Roberts went out of the invite you into his after you attacked his best friend and Mr. Howard didn't throw you in jail for the attack." "Obviously, it was a set up because I never attacked him. He's the main reason I was stressing out and he was straight using me on so many levels." "You home now." He say shrugging his shoulders.

"His house smelled anyway." I say throwing the apple into the trash. "Because you're not in it." Quil say making them laugh. "I didn't like that because I never been used like that in my life." "So, what you going do?" Jacob asks me. "I'm going to go apologize to Mr. Howard and Dr. Roberts because they helped me in a way that nobody ever in my life has. So, I will apologize. I'm going to school tomorrow." I say.
