After the Firework incident surprisingly both Fred and Hermione remained on their best behaviour throughout the rest of September leading into October. Mrs Weasley had offered to remain on the school grounds to help take care of the pair, after all she was the only parent without a job. They'd tried one week of Fred and Hermione living in Gryffindor tower but teenagers it turned out weren't the best at caring for small children. Mrs Weasley on the other hand was more than equipped to care for two rambunctious five-year-olds.
The trio had settled into a routine where Molly would get them ready for the day before taking them to the Great Hall so that they could attend classes with their friends. Molly would floo back to the Burrow to get on with the things she'd usually do at home and would return to the school on an evening where she would bath both children before putting both Fred and Hermione to bed.
After weeks without incident the school should have known that a disruption to their normal routine would result in mayhem, they should have prepared themselves, but they hadn't. Instead in the middle of October all staff and students stood gathered, smartly dressed, and waiting by the Black Lake for two foreign schools to arrive. At the front of the school in neatly pressed miniature uniforms with charming smiles on both of their faces Fred and Hermione stood together next to Professor Dumbledore. You'd think that next to the headmaster it would be impossible to cause trouble, that is not in fact the case.
"Woah, that is awesome," Fred gasped staring at the lake where a large ship was emerging from the depths of the lake.
"It really is Hermione whispered staring not at the boat but up into the sky where a carriage the size of a house that was been pulled by a herd of ginormous winged horses.
"Igor, I hope your journey to us went well," Professor Dumbledore greeted a dark haired, hollow faced bearded man who descended from the ship, with a wall of teenaged men all dressed in matching regal red uniforms, each also war fur hats and capes.
"Come on Fred," Hermione whispered dragging her friend by the hand towards the carriage that had landed at the edge of the forest.
"But I want to see the boat Hermione," he whined at her as he reluctantly followed his friend.
"Freddie, they're Pegasus, I've always wanted to see one, almost as much as I want to see a unicorn," she whispered as they approached the winged horses, each horse was pure white with shining blond hair that reminded Hermione of her friend Draco who she still liked to call Mr Blondie. When they finally reached the horses, Hermione stared up at them in awe, she had never seen horses as large, they were easily larger than Hagrid and much larger than the Shire Horse she once saw at a farm her mum had taken her too.
"Come on Freddie we can climb onto them using their plaited hair as a ladder," she told her friend before demonstrating how to climb the Pegasus. A few minutes later both Fred and She were sat atop of the largest of the twelve-winged horses.
"Look Hagrid is talking to a lady larger than him," Fred told her, pointing to where Hagrid stood below with a large, elegant looking woman who stood at least a foot taller than him.
"Take care of my Abraxan's Hagrid," the woman spoke in a thick French accent, her voice carrying easily to the pair atop of the winged horse.
"Of course," Hagrid replied before approaching the horses, tapping each harness with his pink umbrella he freed each horse, leading them into the forest. The sudden movement of the horse below her caused Hermione to scream in fright, tugging harshly on its hair. Flapping its wings in distress the horse took to the skies with both Fred and Hermione still atop of it, both screaming in terror…
