Chapter 11: Sharing the Dream
4 months later:
"I need everyone into the Round Room in five please," Penelope tells the team in the bullpen.
"What's up Garcie? I didn't see any case files come across this morning. What's going on?" Emily questioned.
Penelope just ignored everyone and walked into the Round Room waiting for them all to follow. Within just a few minutes they had everyone in the room staring at Garcia waiting for them. "Guys I wanted to call you all in here to share some sensitive information. We ask that it does not leave this room," she begins. She walks over to Derek and places a hand on his shoulder. "We wanted you all to be the first to know that Derek and I are expecting a baby. We are 18 weeks along today," she tells the group.
The entire team erupts in Congratulations and excitement. "Man Garcie, you sure did wait a while to tell us," Emily says.
"We really wanted to tell you all earlier, but we wanted to keep things as quiet as we can. Unfortunately I am beginning to show so we felt it was important for you guys to become aware. We don't however want to openly discuss it in fear that this might give Kevin more reason to retaliate against Derek and I," Penelope continues. The team sat together, ate lunch, and talked about how excited they were to meet the new baby on the team.
Little did they know that Kevin was lurking outside of the Round Room. He overheard the news and was more determined than ever to take the excitement they had from them. He would wait until the moment was just right and kill not only Penelope but their baby as well.
Two Weeks Later:
"Penelope you need to hurry or we're going to be late for our appointment," Derek yells from her office door.
"I'm coming Hot Stuff. I can't wait to see our little munchkin again. Can you believe that we get to find out today what we are having?" she asks excitedly.
"No way! It seems like this pregnancy is just flying right by. They team has a bet going on for gender though, so they will be happy to finally know," he responds ushering her out of the door and towards the elevator.
The drive is relatively short and the wait to get into the doctor is much shorter. It's amazing what flashing an FBI badge can get you. Doctor K enters the room. He is a short, kind, and well manicured man. He reaches his hand out to shake with Morgan's, "Penelope how are you feeling? Any issues?" he asks.
"Nope, nothing knew. Still dealing with morning sickness and tiredness, but other than that everything is great. We're so excited to find out the gender today!" Garcia replies.
"Well let's get started then. Let's get you up on the table and pull up your shirt," he tells them. Derek helps Penelope climb up onto the table and lay back comfortably. She then pulls her shirt up just to the bottom of her bra revealing a medium sized baby bump. "This might be a little cold," he tells her. He squirts some gel onto her stomach and places the ultrasound want on top of it. "Lets see here. Heart and lungs look good so far. Spine structure seems to be fine. Baby's size looks great as well. Do you just want me to tell you the gender or write it in an envelope for you?" he asks them.
"You can just tell us Doctor. We aren't doing any elaborate gender reveal or anything. We are just going to share it with our team tonight," Derek says before Penelope can answer.
"Congratulations guys, you are having a baby girl!" Doctor K. exclaims! Morgan and Garcia are so excited to hear the great news. "Everything looks good so I will see you in four more weeks Penelope unless something pops up and you think you need to come in sooner. See you guys next time!" the Doctor says leaving the room.
Penelope stops at the reception desk to put her next appointment on the schedule. Once she has finished Derek meets her downstairs with the car out front. "Can you believe we are having a baby girl? She's gonna be so beautiful just like you are baby," he tells Penelope offering her a kiss to her hand. She just smiles and stares into the sun so happy for the relationship that she has.
They make it back to work about noon and the entire team is in the Round Table Room. Morgan tipped them off and let them know they would be back soon. The team gathered balloons, streamers, cake, and presents in the Round Room to celebrate their new baby GIRL! Penelope and Derek entered to the team yelling,"surprise!" Penelope was so surprised that she began to cry.
The team spent the next hour eating cake, opening presents, and talking about how excited they were for the new addition. Penelope was showing JJ and Emily the ultrasound photos when Hotch's phone rang. "Hotchner," he answered. "Yes. Yes we are available. We'll fly out tonight. Thank You!" Hotch said to whomever had called him. "Sorry guys looks like we have a case. We don't have time to discuss it here I will have Penelope present it to us once we're aboard. Penelope I'm sorry to cut the party short, but we need to go. I sent the case file to you. Please break it down and upload it for presentation a.s.a.p. Wheels up in twenty guys," he addresses the team.
"Hotch, wait," Morgan yells chasing Hotch into his office. "I can't leave her now. It's obvious she is pregnant and I have no clue if Kevin knows or not. I want to stay here with her please," Morgan pleads.
"Morgan it's been six month since the incident. Nothing has happened and you've been on cases before. Unfortunatey I have to decline your request. We need all hands on deck with this case. I'm sorry Morgan," Hotch responds gesturing towards his door to dismiss Morgan. Morgan contemplates arguing, but decides that there is nothing that he can do to change Hotch's mind. He heads to Garcia's office instead.
"Baby Girl will you be okay while I'm gone?" Morgan asks Penelope.
"Honey I'll be just fine. We have lots of people here if I need anything and you're only one call away. Just go, we will be fine. I love you. Travel safe. I'll miss you," Penelope encouraged him. With another long hug and kiss, Morgan got up from his knees, grabbed his go bag and headed for the elevator.
