"Right through here," Klaus said as he led Caroline to one of the palace's sitting rooms. Two armchairs were facing each other with a small rectangular coffee table in front of them.
"Take a seat, love."
Caroline looked at him suspiciously and sat down. "What exactly are we doing?"
Klaus smirked and nodded at one of his hybrids to bring in one of the women from the village. She had long blonde hair brown eyes she looked a little older than 15 but no older than 18.
"Now Car-o-line, this lovely young lady is named Celeste. She has a mother and a father. She also has a little sister who is eight named Amber."
Caroline nodded not sure what to do with all this information.
"I'm going to compel you if you can stop the compulsion she'll go on home and she'll be fine. If you don't, I'll drain her dry and send her back in a box."
Caroline's eyes widened and she shook her head. "You can't!"
"Love, you value human life. You are one of them. If you want nothing to happen just remember all the little things your Papa taught you and stop the compulsion."
"Klaus, I can't."
Klaus laughed before sitting in the empty seat next to Caroline and grabbed her chin to force her to look into his eyes. "Drink," Klaus said then took a bite from his wrist and put it out for Caroline to take.
Caroline's pupil's dilated and she unhesitantly grabbed Klaus's wrist and brought it to her lips. Once Caroline drank Klaus pulled his wrist away and walked over to Celeste.
Caroline stood and moved towards Klaus only for him to flash in front of her.
"Now you knew the rules, love." Klaus turned to her again and compelled her to sit down and be quiet till he finished then walked back to Celeste moving her hair off her neck and drinking the blood from her.
"You can try and stop me, love. Just say the word." Klaus tsked when she didn't say anything and finished off the blonde. He then let her drop once he finished and called for his guardsman to make the arrangements to send her back to her family.
"You didn't have to do that!" Caroline yelled, after the compulsion ended, rising only to be pushed back to a sitting position.
"Don't touch me."
"Easy love, we're not done yet. Bring in the next one!"
The next person to walk in was a man he had dark hair and blue eyes. He was in his late 20's and had facial hair not enough for a beard though.
"This is William. He is 20-something doesn't really matter. He has a wife Eleonore and a daughter. Little Lilly and from what I'm told has another babe on the way."
Caroline glared. "Don't."
Klaus laughed, "What don't you want me to do?"
"He doesn't deserve to die. Punish me but don't kill him."
"Oh, sweetheart don't worry he's not going to die."
Klaus turned to the man, "Now Caroline if you manage to fight off the compulsion; I will then release, William, here from his. If not, however, William here will go back home and kill his family." He paused to look at Caroline whose eyes started to water, and her body started shaking.
"Klaus please."
"You can stop all this Caroline. You are your father's daughter." "I can't-" "Speaking of daughter perhaps he should start with her first and then the wife… It's just a thought how about-" Klaus turned back to the man who despite the circumstances remained with a blank look on his face. "Kill the one you love the most first."
Klaus made his way back towards his chair. "Come on love, I rather not force you into being compelled, but I will."
Caroline shook her head no and Klaus let out an exasperated breath grabbing her face and making her look at him. "Your hunter friend. Tell me their name."
Caroline clenched her teeth together and closed her eyes hesitating. The name was on the tip of her tongue, but she knew she shouldn't let him know. Not only would she betray Alaric, but a man and his family would die.
"A-" She said before stopping and clenching her fists.
Klaus smiled she was resisting but she so obviously wanted to tell him. "What was that?"
"Al-" Caroline gulped and closed her mouth again.
"Well you are resisting, but you still want to tell me. Come on love it's simple just let me know."
Caroline shook her head no and Klaus laughed and stood up making his way towards Will and stopped right in front of him. Before turning back to face her.
"Are you sure Caroline?"
Caroline nodded still tight-lipped and Klaus turned to Will.
"Now William, I believe…"
"Alaric," Caroline said before gasping.
"Well, that's disappointing. William you have your orders, go on."
"No. Please!" Caroline said placing herself in front of the door stopping William from leaving.
"Sorry love, you resisted and that is admirable, but you still could not override the compulsion."
"Please give me one more chance."
"William kill one of your loved ones and come back with whoever remains."
Klaus said moving Caroline out of the way.
"William will lose one loved one now if you cannot resist, he will kill the other as well and then I imagine he will take his own life from guilt."
Caroline glared and nodded acceptingly there was no more negotiating to be done.
"Now, tell me everything you can about this Alaric."
"No."
"Are you sure?"
Klaus looked at Caroline his eyes dilating reinforcing the compulsion.
"Please."
"Tell me."
"He-"
"Yes."
Caroline frowned and closed her mouth trying to make sure not to reveal anything else about Alaric. God only knew the efforts Klaus would go to hurt Alaric if he thought it would help him.
"Come on Caroline. If you are just hesitating, then give in. If you have however managed to overcome the compulsion feel free to change the topic."
Caroline nodded but was afraid of verbally responding.
"You need words to start a new conversation, love."
"He ha-" Caroline closed her mouth. New conversation. Come on Care! She looked at Klaus and swallowed before closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. In. Out.
Breath Caroline. Control your breath. In. Hold. Out. You can do this Carebear. In. Hold. Out.
Caroline opened her eyes, her father's words in her mind. After another deep breath, she looked around the room trying to find something to talk about. Her eyes landed on Klaus noticing his dark royal blue jacket with pearl buttons and black trousers. He had three buttons undone and she could see a white undershirt, the neck was low, or at least that is what it seemed She also noticed a black belt wrapped around his midriff.
Klaus cleared his throat looking at her curiously as she blushed once she saw that she had been caught.
Caroline looked at Klaus annoyed at the smirk on his face and the amusement in his eyes. His blue eyes. They were actually quite nice and stood out with the jacket.
"You have nice eyes."
Klaus raised a brow in surprise and watched as Caroline gasped before smiling widely.
"You have nice eyes!" Caroline said a bit louder before letting out a laugh and standing.
Klaus chuckled in amusement and nodded.
"Thank you, love."
Caroline turned to him and quickly remembering, "You need to stop him, please. William can't. He can't kill his family please."
Klaus' smile went away and walked to the door she couldn't hear him, but she saw him muttering something to the guard by the door.
"Someone is on their way."
"On their way?"
"Yes. they just have to beat him to the house. That is if William isn't there already."
Caroline nodded still unhappy.
"Well sweetheart, you managed to overcome the compulsion. Now to make sure it's not a fluke. Let's go again."
Klaus looked at Caroline watching as she had fallen asleep in the carriage ride to the port. Elijah rode in a carriage behind them. From the port, it would take around 6 to 8 days to arrive in Nova Scotia.
Caroline managed to overcome the compulsion a few more times, but with each time she grew more and more exhausted. Klaus was quite impressed however she did slip up every now and again.
The hybrid pulled a small bag from the inside of his coat and emptied out a simple leather bracelet along with a bronze locket. The bracelet had been dipped in vervain and the locket had some inside it. Slowly he reached for her right arm and picked up her sleeve, up to her shoulder to wrap the bracelet on her forearm.
Caroline stirred and pulled her arm back. She let out a soft yawn and stretched slightly before rubbing at her eyes.
"What were you doing?" She asked softly fixing her sleeve and noticing the bracelet.
"It has vervain. You should also wear this-" He says holding up the locket, "May I?"
Caroline looked at the necklace and nodded softly brushing her hair to the side. Once the hybrid placed it around her neck, she took a better look. It wasn't silver but bronze and had a nice oval shape. She brought it up to her ear hearing some movement inside.
"Thank you."
Klaus nodded before turning to look out the window. It was still dark, but it would be a couple of hours till dawn and a few after that to reach the ship.
"You should rest. We are a good distance from the port I estimated at least four maybe five hours."
A/N
Hey everyone so here it is a new chapter. I will start posting regularly once a month so since this went up on the 26 expect the next Chapter on November 26/27, and so forth till the new year. Once the new year I will hopefully have more of the story written out so I can post at least twice a month.
The next chapter will be more Klaus/ Caroline training with some Elijah butting in. As well as Klaus and Elijah insulting Caroline quite a bit so yeah... And of course some Elijah/Klaus plotting.
Anyways please let me know what you think of this chapter was Caroline overcoming the compulsion too easy? If it was well I can't have her be great at combat and compulsion. One she's human and no way would she be able to take down Klaus and two Caroline has had previous training with her father and as we know Bill is not so great. If he was willing to torture sorry rehabilitate Caroline because she turned into a vampire imagine how much he could have put her through if he actually let her know about vampires and trained her.
Moving on thank you to all of you who have followed and favorited this story I hope you enjoyed this chapter and stick around. I really like this story and once I finish with my other TVD story this one will take up primary focus well not primary focus will be tied with my Dear Emrys fic but basically I will have more time to focus on this story and post more.
Thank you all so much. Please leave a review down below.
Till next time!
