Once they made it to port Klaus led Caroline to her cabin instructing her to stay there until he returned. The siblings had managed to get passage on one of the best vessels in the dock and with some hefty compulsion made sure that any passenger that wasn't part of the crew unboarded. As well as compelled the Captain to set sail to Nova Scotia instead of whatever other destination he was meant to go to and compelled him to follow every command given to him by either of them.

"How did the Forbes' girl manage the compulsion?"

"She resisted… mostly."

"Mostly?"

"She needed incentive at first."

Elijah nodded. "And after?"

"Once exhaustion started setting in resisting failed. I'll work on it."

"See that you do. You should also train her in combat. You will not be able to save her in front of The Five."

Caroline sat on the bed in her room. It was really small- at least 6x5ft she counted as she paced from one side of the room to the other. The room had a bed- twin with simple off white bedding and a single pillow, a medium sized chest at the foot of the bed for clothes- which she didn't bring aside from what she was wearing, a wooden desk with a drawer (which would be able to keep some parchment and charcoal that is if she brought any she would have to talk to Klaus although she didn't really have anyone to write to she felt that keeping a journal of her journey would be nice), a chair, and a bucket- that Caroline really did not want to think about using. The room also had a porthole so that she could take a look outside but considering that the only view she would get would be the sea she figured she would get sick of it pretty quickly.

Knock.

"Enter."

Caroline said knowing it was Klaus and letting him in. He took a quick look around and sat on the chair.

"How are you settling in?"

"I need clothes."

Klaus nodded, "I might have something for you temporarily I didn't really have time to get you anything, so my stuff will have to do." Noticing her disapproving look he sighed before adding "I'll ask the crew. I think the chef might have something. …" It wasn't a lie, but the chef was a rather large woman who was married to the ship's second and he'd doubt that any clothes would fit Caroline's thin frame without some major adjustments. "...Once we arrive, I will tell Bekah to take you to the market and get you a few sets of clothes."

"Thank you."

Klaus nodded. "Besides clothing is everything alright. I can get you an extra blanket umm…" The original trailed off sheepishly unsure what exactly he could offer.

"No that's alright. Could I maybe…"

"Maybe?"

"Could I get a journal. Or if that's too much some paper will do. I would like to keep a record. It's silly, but it's something that I use to do keep a journal of what happened." Caroline rambled before closing her mouth tightly embarrassed.

"I'll see what I can do. Now I actually wanted to talk to you about starting a training schedule. I think it's best to meet on deck in the morning for combat and then we can meet here to continue with compulsion after lunch."

"I won't need to fight some century old vamps, will I?"

"Just me. We also need to go over your cover story."

"Cover story?"

"Why you are in Nova Scotia?"

Caroline nodded, "I'm guessing you mean a lie to tell the hunters."

"Yes."

"Okay. What about the compulsion. I mean you can't really compel the crew to jump ship, can you?"

"No, but I can still hurt them."

Next day

Caroline panted as she failed yet again to land a punch on the Original.

"How you managed to even kill any vampires is beyond me."

She glares pulling her arm back but before she even gets a chance to push it forward to hit him, he flashes in front of her and pushes her body to the ground hand on her chest above where her heart would be.

"Dead again."

"Shut up." She growls trying to get up. After a few seconds watching her struggle he rises from his kneeled position and offers her his hand. She shoves it out of her way and rises on her own.

"You already seen me fight you should have picked up on my moves."

"You focus on speed rather than strength. You prefer to run than fight. Is that it?" Caroline said trying to rile him up.

"I can fight sweetheart; the issue is you can't. Now one thing you did say that wasn't stupid was that I was focusing on using speed. I'll slow down not to your pace but enough, so you at least have a chance."

She nods, "Can we take a break."

Klaus laughs before rushing at her and knocking her off her feet again. "No now get ready all you need to do is land one hit."

Caroline pushes herself up arms crossed over her chest, "This is stupid! I doubt I'll face a vampire as old as you."

"You're right you won't face me or any of my siblings, however there's a reason the Five are in Nova Scotia and it's not to take down baby vamps. According to Kol there's a Ripper that has been drawing quite a bit of attention. He is only in the 300-year old range, but Kol and Rebekah suspect he might have turned off his humanity making him quite dangerous."

"So that's what your training me for then? You want me to take down some psycho three century old vampire so I can be accepted into The Five or whatever."

"The idea crossed my mind. Now back to business I'm using my speed what talents do you possess to be able to take me down."

Caroline sighed, "I don't know. Maybe you can get me a gun with some wooden bullets."

Klaus smiled, "That would only delay me killing you as I would first get rid of your weapon than kill you."

"I can't fight you without a weapon. I'm human not some undead freak with super speed and strength!" She growls as she barely manages to dodge him from throwing her back onto the floor. Although by the look on his face he doesn't seem fazed.

"Taunts won't work on me darling. Neither will it work on a vampire with its emotions turned off. They'd just wish to shut you up faster."

She glared and waited for him to get closer before trying to kick his feet to knock him off balance, but he grabbed her leg leaving her standing on one foot.

"Now what exactly did you expect to achieve?"

Caroline takes advantage of him holding her leg and uses one of her arms to slap his face. The slap was weak and certainly surprised him, but he supposed it would do.

Letting go of her leg she just managed to keep her balance and stop herself from falling.

"I normally wouldn't count that, but I suppose letting you have one win no matter how pathetic will be good for morale."

A laugh drew the pair's gaze to the upper deck of the ship where Elijah was watching them. "I think you are way past the point of improving morale, brother."

They watch as he speeds in front of them, "Perhaps you should fight at human speed and strength until she can manage to beat you. Although after watching that spectacle I doubt she can manage."

"I do not have to take this. Seriously is the whole reason you brought me here to degrade me."

Elijah raises a brow at her outburst then turns to his brother, "You said you could handle her?"

"I'm working on it."

She rolls her eyes annoyed, "Can you at least wait till I'm gone till you talk about me like I'm not even in the room. Seriously it's rude. For vampires a bazillion years old you never did learn some manners did you."

Elijah's eyes widen at that before he turns to Klaus, "Bazillion?"

"Rumors of our existence have been greatly exaggerated."

"Hmm I wonder why?" Elijah says a smirk on his face.

"I blame Kol."

"Somehow I doubt he managed it alone."

"Umm hello still here."

"Such insolence when should I expect for you to hand over the daggers. Your plan obviously isn't going to work."

"Ye of little fate, brother. My plan will work just watch."

"We'll see. I'll be heading to the dining room for lunch meet me there once you are done." Elijah tells his brother not waiting for a response as he flashes out of the room.

"Right then, you heard him. I will be fighting at human speed first one to have the other knocked on their backs wins."

Elijah inhaled deeply smelling the blood in his goblet the black veins in his eyes appearing as he finished the blood in the cup then signaled for the woman who fed him to refill his goblet along with the one, he placed across him for Klaus.

"Thank you, you should go bandage that now." He tells her watching as she scurries away from him.

He can hear his brother and the Forbes girls shouting at one another and lets out a chuckle. The girl was weak and even if by some reason she managed to improve in the next week there was no way she could take down the Ripper.

He had a solution of course, but he didn't quite want to tell Klaus knowing the daggers were at stake. Although, he supposed that he should at least support his brother perhaps his idea would work ridding them of this generation of hunters once and for all.

He heard the couple finish, his brother obviously having won if the girl's muttering was anything to go by, and called another of the servants to bring their meals over.

"Brother," Klaus greeted as he took a seat across from Elijah.

"Perhaps you should think of another plan to get her initiated into the group."

"She can do it."

Elijah raised an eyebrow and Klaus just smirked, "If it comes to it, I'll stop the vampire. We can make it look like Caroline did it all on her own."

Elijah thought it over, the plan was acceptable. He picked up his utensils and started cutting his food his brother copying him.

Caroline collapsed on her bed not sure how she was going to handle another training session with Klaus going at human speed. She managed to get in a few punches and kicks, but she still wasn't strong enough to knock him down and no matter how quick she was on her feet he always managed to catch her by speeding in front or behind her.

She mumbled an enter as she heard someone knock on her door and watched as one of the crew members placed a plate of fish and steamed vegetables along with a glass of water on her desk.

"Thank you."

The boy nods and heads back out hesitating by the doorway. "You're not like them?"

Caroline frowns as she moves to sit on the chair by her desk so she can eat, "I'm not a vampire, if that's what you mean."

He nods turning to look at her, his eyes analyzing her critically probably trying to figure out how she managed to be involved with two creatures of the night.

"Is there something you want?" Caroline asked bluntly to the boy who kept staring at her he looked maybe a year or so older than her maybe 18 or 20 she wasn't sure?

"Are you their slave?"

Caroline's eyes widened at his question. Is that what the rest of the crew thought?

"No, I am not a slave. A couple of days ago I would have said their prisoner, but I'm not exactly that either."

"I'm sorry?"

She smiled hesitantly, "It's alright. I'm Caroline."

"Ulises. My father is the captain's second."

"Nice to meet you."

"I hope you don't mind it's just rather unbelievable. Just the day before last vampires were tales and then-", Ulises trails off.

"I understand. When I first found out I thought it was unbelievable, but well I didn't really have much time to process. My father said the best way for me to learn was to toss me in the deep end. I wasn't even prepared to handle the shallows." She shook her head pushing the memory away. "If there is anything you want to know feel free to ask and I'll try to answer."

Ulises nodded and moved back in the room closing the door gently.

"They enchanted us not to feel fear and do what they said. How did they do it? Are you enchanted too?"

Caroline's eyes furrowed, "It's not exactly an enchantment. It's called compulsion. I'm not entirely sure how they can do it just that it's one of their powers. And no, I am not enchanted."

The boy looked at her not sure if he believed her, "Then why do you do what they say?"

"It's complicated."

"Could we stop them?" Caroline shushed him and turned to the door expecting Klaus or Elijah to come barreling through.

"No. If they were normal vampires maybe, but they're different. I don't think there's anything that could stop them. I stabbed one of them with a stake and he just pulled it out like it was a splinter."

"There has to be something?"

Caroline shook her head. She could hear the tone in his voice and sighed, "Don't. Whatever it is you are thinking? Stop. Don't even try it. Don't be a hero, you'd just end up dead if not you, someone else on this ship."

The dark-haired boy opened his mouth to argue but Caroline heard footsteps heading for her door and motioned for him to leave.

"Thank you, for the food."

"You are welcome, Miss." He tells her as he opens the door gulping as he sees the blond Original in front of him.

Klaus chuckles, looking into the man's eyes and compelling him to leave. He was tempted to rip the boy's heart out, but it be better to wait. He seemed like one of those idiot hero-types once he stepped out of line, he will snap his neck and feed his remains to the sharks.

"Making a friend, love?"

"He was just bringing me lunch." Caroline said spearing a steamed carrot and eating it.

"You were right to warn him off."

"He was just curious, he's no trouble."

"You do know what they say about curiosity, don't you?"

"Klaus."

"One who is too wise an observer of the business of others, like one who is too curious in observing the labor of bees, will often be stung for his curiosity."

"What are you doing here, Klaus? I haven't finished eating."

"Go ahead and finish I'll wait." He said moving to sit on the bed to wait.

Caroline took a deep breath as she removed her locket and vervain bracelet.

"Okay, I'm ready," She said moving to sit next to Klaus on the bed.

"What do you think of your situation?"

Caroline hesitates that turns to look at him, "Sorry what?"

"What do you think of your situation? I know its not ideal and you are here against your will, but all things considered we haven't treated you at all like a prisoner or slave."

Caroline narrowed her eyes at him, "Why does it matter what I think? Will it change things? No, it probably won't."

"I didn't know there were things that needed changing. Did I not provide you with the clothes you wanted? I know they aren't at all flattering, but I'm sure you can manage till we get to port."

Caroline looked down to her large shirt and trousers, blushing slightly she only managed to make them fit her by tucking in her shirt and finding a belt to keep her pants up.

"I'll talk to the captain he has a daughter around your age. I should have talked to her in the first place she's more your size… perhaps with a slimmer waist?" smirking as he sees her getting riled up.

"Excuse you."

"Its alright beauty is as they say not what's on the outside, but the inside? Rather rubbish but either way it is not like you are to find any decent suitors."

"Yes, because a bazillion year old undead murderous vampire is such a catch."

Klaus laughs, "I am a catch sweetheart, you should know. What was it... nice eyes?"

"Even the devil was an angel."

"Ouch. So first you make me a 'bazillion' years old and then you compare me to Satan."

"The truth hurts."

Klaus shakes his head, "Far from it. I know I am far from a saint and being considered a devil is great for my reputation, but I'm not evil. Murderer, yes. Vampire, the first, but there are far worst evils in the world than I. As for the age I am much, much younger."

"Sure."

"I'm in my five hundred's not that age matters to me."

"Still old."

"So, what do you think of your situation?"

"I'm being held against my will and forced to infiltrate an organization of fellow human hunters like myself so I can lead them to slaughter, so I can gain my freedom or till I mess up and you and your family kill me. I'm fantastic, thanks for asking."

"If you want to be treated like a prisoner, I can make the arrangements they have a cot down in the ship's storage where you can stay." He tells her, he won't actually send her anywhere, but he could.

"I don't. I didn't. Can we just start training?"

"As you wish." Klaus gets up and reaches into his coat's pocket to pull out a sheathed ornate dagger. "First things first, considering your suicidal tendencies I need some insurance." Unsheathing the blade, he cuts his wrist and holds it out to her, "Drink."

"No way," Caroline says eyes looking at his bleeding wrist.

"Don't worry love you won't transition. What a waste that would be since I need a human; this is just to make sure whatever injuries you sustain will heal themselves."

"Injuries? I can handle the pain I don't need your blood. And I am not suicidal."

Klaus gave her a doubting look, "You jumped out of a window."

"I wouldn't have died from it."

"You've did it a couple of days ago. It will only be in your system for a day or two, " Klaus says mentioning the last time he compelled her to drink his blood.

"No, I- "

"Drink," Caroline reaches for his wrist again bringing it to her lips, humming slightly at the coppery taste.

"Stop," Caroline pulls back glaring at the vampire and wiping the blood from her lips with her shirts sleeve. She takes a deep breath and tries to focus like she did last time to fight against compulsion.

"Now love take the knife and cut your wrist like mine was."

"No."

He nods, "You are resisting quite well now that you are focused; we will try that again once you get tired."

"That's it?"

"For now, we are going to go over your cover story I will try and compel you throughout."

Caroline nods going to her desk taking out a quill, ink pot, and the journal Klaus had given her that morning with her clothes.

"Introduce yourself to me as if we've never met."

Giving him a weird look, she puts her quill down and angles her body on the chair to face him.

She introduces herself and Klaus asks her to tell him how she knows about vampires, similar to the conversation when he interrogated her back at his palace.

"What are you doing in Nova Scotia?"

"I heard about the vamp- "

"No. You need to take charge of this conversation. The five will want to know who you are you need to tell them just enough to believe you but not be suspicious of your intentions."

"So, what do I say then?"

"Nothing. They asked you who you are you ask them who they are. They ask why you are there you be vague. Say after your parent's death you went on a vampire hunting spree. Not entirely the truth, but not a lie either as you did kill several back home. Just stick to the truth as much as possible without mentioning me or my family or that you know anything about them. If they ask how you know about the Ripper tell them you heard rumors and wanted to check them out- no better tell them you didn't know till you got into town and heard about the suspicious amount of deaths, pretend it's not a big deal. You just knew there was a vampire on the loose and needed to kill it. "
Caroline nods taking notes as Klaus tells her how to act in certain scenarios with the Five and gets her to practice her lying to him.

"Don't play with your hair."

"Why?"

"It's a tell that your lying also don't hesitate before you answer. Every once in a while, is fine but if you always do it, they will catch on."

"Okay."

"Cut your wrist," Caroline's hand went straight for the dagger only to stop herself when she felt the cool blade press on her skin.

"Hey!"

"I did tell you beforehand, love. Besides you stopped yourself, so no harm done. Now tell me how did you get to Nova Scotia in the first place and why travel there at all."

It went like that for the remainder of the session with Caroline practicing her story and growing more alert each time he compelled her.
"Well done. Major improvement from yesterday. Tomorrow I will try and compel you in the middle of our sparring lets see if you can focus your mind in less than ideal scenarios."

The next day they tried, and Caroline ended up about to throw herself overboard only stopping when Klaus grabbed her and ended the compulsion before knocking Caroline down winning the match. The days after that were similar Caroline soon mastering being able to stop being compelled but still wore her vervain jewelry just in case. Her fighting skills improved, and she did manage to knock Klaus down once or twice when he let her (going at human speed and without the use of any of his vampiric skills or reflexes) however she was still in no shape to take down a three hundred year old ripper... Good thing Originals always have a backup plan.

A/N

I want to thank all of you who favorited and followed this story Thank you so much. I am working on finishing the next chapter and with Finals ending next week I will be able to get a head start on writing a few more chapters before the new year. Next Chapter is going to go up on the 26 or 27 if not earlier as I might want to post before Christmas but it depends on how I feel about it.

Please let me know what your thinking regarding this chapter I am seeing an increase in views, favorites, and story alerts, but not so much in reviews and its making me feel a bit anxious.

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it. Happy Holidays and I will see you in a month's time.
