Kevin POV:
I watched them throw a little girl that was kicking, scratching, yelling, and crying into the van. She looked about 3 years old. She reminded me of my little sister. They look about the same age and look alike. But I'll never get to see her again because they killed her along with my parents.
(Flashback a week ago)
My mother woke me up with a kiss on the forehead and told me to get ready because we were having a special visitor come to eat breakfast with us. I got my 5 year old self up and headed to the bathroom. My mother wanted to help me get ready but I told her I was a big boy and can get ready myself. After getting ready I walked down stairs and saw my mom and Stacy, my little sister sitting around the table. I sat down and that's when someone knocked on the door. Mom got up and answered it. Then she called me and my sister to come see who it was… it was my dad. I haven't seen him in months because he's in the army and now he's finally home. We ran to him and he gave up a big hug and pulled mom into the hug. I was so happy to see my dad. I asked him if he had to go back and he said no he's staying.
We ate breakfast and dad said he wanted to take us somewhere to celebrate. Then we heard a loud bang coming from upstairs. Dad went upstairs to check it out then we heard what sounded like a gun shot. Stacy started crying and mom grabbed our hands and pulled us towards the back patio slide door. But then we heard someone say don't move so we froze. Stacy started crying and the person said shut up but Stacy couldn't hear him because she has this hearing problem. The next thing you know another shot was fired. I gasped and mom Yelled. I just watched my sister get shot. My mother was so angry she grabbed the first thing she could get her hands on and throw it.
I tried running but then someone else came out of nowhere and grabbed me. I kicked, scratched, yelled and cried but it was no use. They walked outside and threw me in a black van. I heard another shot fired and I knew I was never going to see my family again.
(End of Flashback)
We've been driving for hours and I didn't know where we were. I know we were on our way to Brazil because I heard one of them talking. I know for a 5 year old I'm pretty smart. The little girl wouldn't stop crying so I decided I should do something.
Kevin: "Shh… don't cry. I'm sure your parents are going to find you." She wiped her tears and stared at me. I tried to reach to her but she backed up. "I'm not going to hurt you."
I tried again and this time she let me reach her. I pulled her towards me and hugged her. Just like I used to hug Stacy when she cried. I don't know what happened but I felt like I had to protect this little girl. Maybe because she reminds me of my sister. She laid on my lap and I pat her back until she fell asleep.
I heard the people talking to who I think is the little girl father. The man told her father that he had to go to Brazil with some money and if they didn't bring the money then they would sell her and bad stuff would happen. That's probably what they are going to do to me because my parents are dead.
The van stopped and the door opened. The man that was talking on the phone told someone named Leah to grab the little girl– who I heard them call Kylie– and me. When Kylie felt someone lift her up she started kicking and scratching Leah. So Leah put her down and she ran towards me and hid behind me. I guess she trust me.
Leah: "Kylie? It's me Leah." Leah tried to grab Kylie but she backed away. "Kylie stop being a brat or you will never see mommy and daddy again. Come here." She tried again but Kylie still backed away. So I stepped in.
Kevin: "She wants to stay with me." I held Kylie's hand like she was my little sister.
Leah: "Okay. Fine. Walk."
It was dark outside so I couldn't see exactly where we were. Then I saw a plane and a guy pushed us into the plane. In the plane they put us in this room and gave us a bag of chips with some Capri sun. I ate my chips and drunk my juice because I haven't eaten in two days. I watched Kylie to see if she was going to eat but she didn't. Probably saving it for later. Then the guy who I think is in charge of all this came busting through the door and handed the phone to Kylie.
Before she could finish what she was saying to her father the guy snatched the phone out of her hand and left. Tears started falling down her face. She leaned against the plane walled and silently whipped. This was going to be a long ride to Brazil.
